4 morning news, a fatal crash on highway 1, 1, shuts down lanes on the peninsula earlier this morning. and pride events starting today across the bay area. the fbi now issuing safety warnings for those looking to celebrate. we'll explain and scary moments for centered on high school after
10:01 am
threats of explosions on campus forcing a lockdown. one parent says it's nothing but a new norm. >> from the bay local news station, you're watching >> on morning team. >> and the gang's all here friday. thanks for joining and i'm darya and i'm james. yeah, we've got lots to talk about whether, of course, as we're heading into the weekend, very important news as well. traffic has been a mess today off along one, a palo alto now yet another one along back to back. is it to strawberries again? no straw. better smelling accident. there is kind of smog out there. makes morning can't blame it on the smog, but you can blame it if you like maybe can and not feeling so. yeah. today. >> the good news is we are going to look at less in the last of that haze as we make our way into the weekend. part of the reason for that is that high pressure that's created the inversion, the cap across the bay is basically going to
10:02 am
edged out and that is going to allow some clean, fresh air to push in. you can see the east bay hills right here looking nice. we don't have any clouds overhead. just a little bit of that hazy. look to it. winds are going to pick up the coastline early after 02:00pm today. and as that happens, we're going to see some coastal cooled air pushing in across the bay for the rest of the weekend. that makes today the warmest day of your forecast tomorrow. sunday. going to be on the cooler side of things for the rest of the weekend. brentwood in vacaville, you're in the 80's now, berkeley, oakland and alameda in the 60's, timber on sf. also 60's for you currently noon hours today, back up into the 70's 80's and even a couple low 90's. all of more details in your forecast as we continue over the right all right, john, thank you for that. will track accident along 101 northbound 17 in los gatos. >> and as you can see, drive times going all the way up about 62 minutes as you're traveling from highway one up to 85. we actually do have footage of that scene. you can see this is an evolving, a
10:03 am
blast and actually multiple vehicles involved as well. so it looks like from chp reports, the vehicle hit multiple cars. and as you can see, the ems trucks right there on scene, they're transporting people to the hospital. so this has been a big problem for at least the past hour. and if you are trying to figure out, hey, this is happening right now. what am i gonna do and how to get around it? i would say right now you could take away 9 might be a good bet for you right now. if you are going to be traveling. well, 7 teens, a mess, but our other highways and bridges looking good. 14 minutes traveling into the city right now just under 13 82 want honor san mateo bridge, richard somerville bridge just short of 8 and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls 20 minutes. all right. james, back to you. thanks for him. >> well, the breaking news this morning, san francisco's iconic anchor brewing company has a new owner just moments ago it was announced that the founder and ceo of chobani has purchased the company duke a layup. okay, i should say is a
10:04 am
turkish billionaire is a pioneer in the natural food movement. now the terms of the agreement not known just yet, but we do know that they at least purchased all of anchors assets, and that includes the beers trademark steam beer recipe that for trevor hill campus, all the brewing equipment at bankers to herro street warehouse facility anchor brewing as we know a pioneer in the craft movement. they opened up operations in san francisco 127 years ago to the question will be will they keep that? will they beer taste the same hold formula. have to wait and see. >> 10, 0, 3, right now. and new this morning, traffic is moving again now along northbound. want to want to palo alto, but it was a fatal crash. earlier this morning, kron four's will tran walks us through what led up to that crash. >> always of northbound 101 through paulo. also at san antonio avenue reopen to the public. but for 4 and a half hours, it was shut down because of a fatal accident involving 3 vehicles. you can
10:05 am
see traffic, no problems, but i'm sure the backup is going to take quite some time to clear out this all actually started at around 3 o'clock in the morning when according to the chp, they believe the driver of a red suv was simply drowsy behind the wheel, slams into a light pole right next to the freeway bounces off the light pole goes to the center lanes when he was rear ended at that point by the driver of a silver tsai on then the driver of the red suv gets out of his suv. well, months later. a tractor slams into his red suv plows into him with his suv where he's underneath pushes the suv all the way to the right wall on the freeway. >> injuries so severe that he died at the scene. drugs, alcohol, not factors, just simply being tired at 3 o'clock in the morning. as far
10:06 am
as the traffic, the chp obviously had to do measurements clean up all of the debris and the chp allowed caltrans to stay on the scene because they metering lights were damaged. they allowed caltrans to stay here to make repairs. >> thanks well, 10, 0, 5, right now. another big story. communities around the bay are going to be raising their pride flags today to honor the lgbtq+ community. and but with so many special events happening in the month of june, the fbi is issuing a warning for all those looking to celebrate. >> michael thomas live in the newsroom. michael. hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. lots of talk about safety leading up to pride month. and there's going to be multiple events today to kick off pride when it comes to being safe. well, officials are really warning all major cities to be on alert, saying that any pride event. >> could essentially be a target later this morning at 11. so about an hour or so, the castro community will hold its first pride event with the changing of the pride flag and honor of pride month. and then over in oakland at
10:07 am
eleven-thirty, they're going to have a pride flag ceremony with city officials. this year's theme for san francisco pride is a beacon of love filled with events almost daily leading up to the big parade at the end of june and federal law enforcement are warning both lgbt community members and its supporters that foreign terrorists and their u.s. based allies may be targeting lgbtq venues and events throughout this month, which could lead to hate crimes or even violence. and we did speak with the fbi officials based out of the san francisco bureau. take a listen to what they had to say. >> i a very good grasp what's normal behavior for their surroundings encourage them. but they see something that's very suspicious, very out of the that they report that. >> now the fbi says the volume and intensity of propaganda recently the october 7th hamas attack in israel has gone up. and as of right now, there's no specific threat of the specific city or even san
10:08 am
francisco, but rather, this is a warning for everyone nationwide. any pride event anywhere. so as we get more details from officials will continue to keep you updated. but that's a very latest or the newsroom. i'm michael thomas story. and james, we'll send it back to you. all right. thanks a lot, michael. >> unfortunately, this is their norm. i think this this kind of behavior has happened. decades before this experience today. >> there's a parent can talk about how this is just a sign of the times. you know, kids going into lockdown at school and that's what happened at cal high in san ramon yesterday for several hours. the kids s to stay in their classrooms because there was a call that there were explosives and a gunman was on campus. you can see the heavy police response starting at around 10 o'clock yesterday morning. the specialty units were out there. they used bomb-sniffing dogs. they had drones. they were looking for any sign of this threat that was called in. meantime, the students realize this is not a
10:09 am
drill. >> we have to like block out the door all the lights are turned off can learn all are not always the bathrooms the norm. now, right? >> all the school shootings that have happened over the last couple years. yeah, that's what we always have. these lockdown drills as well. that's also also was a long happened. and then that's when find those really serious. >> yeah, was serious. least they thought it was. so i mean, those kids were calm. others might have been upset about this. the good thing is nobody was hurt. police didn't end up finding any explosives and now they're trying to figure out where those threats came from. >> 10, 0, 8 is the time in the south bay. the man arrested after an assault at a vta station is now facing an attempted murder charge. investigators have released surveillance video of the assault. we want to warn might be a little disturbing to watch, but here's what happened at the vta children's discovery museum station. top of the screen. take a look. investigators say andrew perez was wearing an armored vest. you can see there he just attacked this man who was on
10:10 am
the platform. perez apparently went up to the sky who was standing with a bike, just started punching him, kicking him, took him to the ground. here's a close-up look, the assault continued for a while. and then perez eventually ran off and barricaded himself inside his own home before ultimately being arrested. the victim was only identified as a 45 year-old man. we know he was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries, including some cuts that were deep enough. they needed staples to close. >> time now is 10. 0, 9, and another big story that we're following. donald trump has now become the first former u.s. president convicted of a felony he was found guilty on all 34 charges of paying hush money to influence the 2016 election. basil, john is in new york city now with more on this historic moment. history was made as donald trump was convicted by the new york jury for falsifying business records before the 2016 election. >> this can't be allowed to happen to other presidents. it should never be allowed to happen. former president donald trump says the fight isn't over after he was found
10:11 am
guilty in the hush money trial that we're going to be appealing this. scam. trump is now the first former u.s. president to be convicted of a crime and now faces a possible punishment o 4 years in prison. new york district attorney alvin bragg calls this a huge win. we should all be thankful for the careful attention. that this jury paid to evidence and the law jury deliberations took place over 2 days as the verdict came down near the end of the second day. the only voice that matters is the voice of the jury. some of the president's most loyal supporters like colorado, republican congresswoman lauren boebert call this a political prosecution. this is malpractice of our judicial system. >> but victoria nurse with georgetown law school says the jury did its job. how it was supposed to they actually do their homework they ask for the replay the testimony. i think they did their job.

this this weekend. what you think at the yeah. well, they're camped out right there. a little tent. but >> yeah, if you're in tahoe, you don't worry about the jellyfish is cold up there that you're right. and this weekend we got a little bit of a cool down both from the coast all the way up to the sierra and for the rest of us in the bay. a little relief from the heat actually. now, if you do want to be kept out there right along the coastline today, try to capitalize on these early hours. winds are going to pick up in the latter half of the day and also a little fog toward sunset tonight. so not a crystal clear one like we had yesterday. we are also seeing a cold front just skirting north of the region for tahoe itself, as well as the southern cascades could result in a sprinkle or 2. not really likely anything here in the bay. but what will get is some lyft helping to clear out some of that haze and also the opportunity for some ocean cool there to sweep back in. and that is going to cool us down for saturday sunday and monday. you can winds do pick up today. right now we're nice
10:19 am
and calm out there. but 2030 miles per hour gusts later on directly out of the west of the golden gate and from the south and west through the car, tina's. that's going get that cool air right on into the delta and cool us off for inland areas. and with that comes the doses of a little bit of fog. you see that right here streaming into the bay come tomorrow morning. so not a crystal clear start tomorrow, either temperatures in the 50's to 60's for sf and at the coastline you reach high temperatures out there early in the day. well, elsewhere in the bay, we still got that heat for one more day 70's and 80's along the bay shore and 80's to just a couple low 90's for inland areas. this makes today really comparable with how yesterday felt. so if you love the heat now that sunshine one more day for it, pittsburg, antioch in vacaville are 3.90, degree. plus spots tomorrow. no more 90's. in fact, most of us inland will barely even reach the 80's monday. the cool stay

you. >> thanks a lot, john. 10, 19 and a petaluma egg farm caught fire yesterday. the smoke and flames could be seen for miles. luckily nobody was hurt. no chickens were hurt either. but yeah, that smoke could be seen for quite a ways off. kron 4 sarah stinson tells us what happened. >> smoke from the fire here at the pedal loom egg farm could be seeing all the way down town, which had some worried about the chickens and the farm workers. well, i just turned the corner and there was this shot. it looks like a monster. thankfully, no chickens were inside. everyone is okay. >> that's good. that's really a large plume of smoke could be seen coming from a farm in the unincorporated part of petaluma. i just saw dark clouds like that. >> okay. and there's no rain in the forecast. not sure about that. and then the next something came over my phone and then i knew a barn caught fire at petaluma egg farm on kavanaugh, a lane just after 2. the sonoma county sheriff's
10:21 am
office used a helicopter to assist multiple fire agencies on the ground, putting out the flames and making sure the fire didn't spread. but the wind made their job harder was pushing the smoke right now on top of the other barnes. so >> creating an immediate exposure to catch those on fire as well as the grass and the homes across the across the way. and so when not in our favor and had we been about a month later than this, it would better tremendously different story. fire crews were able to contain the fire to the barn. a spokesperson for petaluma egg farm says. >> the barn was recently remodeled and wasn't being used. yes, that's a really so everybody's okay. and it was just the bar and the structure itself and the chickens. a veteran coal bit the last couple >> so yeah, they need a break. >> fire crews remain here at the farm to investigate the cause of the fire. the family that runs pedal in egg farm is working with investigators trying to figure out if this was arson or an accident. i'm

10:31 am
for spots like brett would fairfield dublin, vacaville and a spew of us like berkeley's. still on the cool side at 62. all of us are going to be in for a sunny and warm afternoon, upper 60's and some spots along the coast to upper 80's to even low 90's at our warmest inland right now. all right, john, thank you for that. still tracking in accident along northbound 17. >> summit road here in los gatos. so its cause quite a bit of the delay in backup. a 61 minute drive time as a traveling from highway one up to 85. we do, however, have video of the scene when all this first took place. you can see it's involving a bus that bus there. it sounds like from reports it ran into multiple vehicles on the side of the highway. there you can see the and the ems and all the crews there and chp getting information. you can see the vehicles all caved in that were involved in that crash. you see the hood of that vehicle completely bent in the air. this has been an issue for the past hour or so. so if you are going to be traveling along 17, is a little extra

that's what we're promoting as short-term step and continue to promote the larger package in partnership with the insurance commissioner. this is an important element. >> of what needs to be a multi pronged fix so we can get back business in california. >> rex frazier's with the personal insurance federation of california, which represents large auto and home insurance companies in california. oftentimes it takes months and months before an insurance company even knows where it stands with the state. under this proposal, the state at 60 days and every 30 days thereafter they would have to declare where they stand on a rate filing that accountability. that's good for everyone. as the governor has proposed a plan that is not going to get homeowners access to more coverage and affordable price. but carmen bill burr with the group consumer watchdog thinks the proposal gives away too much. what the governor has proposed will tie the hands of the insurance commissioner and reviewing rate hikes and cut public participants out of the

process. and that is guaranteed to lead to higher unjustified rates for california homeowners. now it'll be up to state legislators to decide whether to include the governor's insurance proposal as it stands or change it when approving this year's budget. dan kerman kron. 4 news at 7.35. and governor newsom is urging state lawmakers to be careful. >> he's concerned about the over regulations that could happen on artificial intelligence. the governor gave remarks, as you can see here at a generative ai some in san francisco with leaders from the tech community and higher education as well. and this is all while lawmakers. some of them are working on placing safeguards on the emerging technology because they're concerned about the potential hazards that could come with ai. governor newsom says. that understands, but at the same time he doesn't want to eyes grows in california. and he wants to ensure that the state remains a tech leader. >> i mean, this is this is a
