news at 5. i'm noelle bellow and i'm dan thorn. the initial attack happened wednesday afternoon. >> at the vta children's discovery museum station, santa clara county deputies say they arrested andrew perez on attempted murder charge. perez was seen on video wearing an armored vest during this attack. deputies now tell us that perez had chased around another person before he went after this man with a bike that was captured on this video. they did not provide us any other details about the second victim. but they are asking anyone with any information about this case to give them a call. kron four's jack moment is following up on the story tonight and he will have more on kron. 4 news at 10 and 11. this just in from the east bay pleasant hill. police say they've arrested 3 people in connection to the killing of a custodian. investigators revealing a love triangle is the motive. the stabbing happened back in february in the parking lot of pleasant hill park. police say 37 year-old santiago to cobo was found on the ground after his wife said he did not come home after his shift at the

park. investigators say they learned to cobo had been in a relationship with one of the suspects while another suspect was pursuing a new relationship with her. police duke oboe and all 3 suspects knew each other and that the suspects planned and coordinated this deadly attack. >> the alameda county sheriff's office is thanking a federal officers for taking a dangerous criminal off the street. something they say alameda county's district attorney refused to do by not filing charges and an assault case. the latest criticism coming while alameda county district attorney pamela price is already facing a recall election because her opponents say she's not holding criminals responsible for their actions. kron four's dan kerman reports. in a facebook post. the alameda county sheriff's office is thanking federal law enforcement officers for taking a violent criminal off the street. >> because the office of alameda county district attorney pamela price refused to file charges. the sheriff's

office says robert bureau coe was arrested in mid-may for a january stabbing in haywards micah state park. the sheriff's office despite being identified by the victim and having a criminal history dating back at least 30 years. but federal drug and weapons convictions, da prices office chose not to prosecute. i'm not even surprise. carl chan is head of the committee trying to recall da pamela price. you know, it's quite upsetting. >> again, it's also proven that, you know, the d a his son, a bulk at the farm, you a job directed in a statement. prices office says this matter was reviewed by a veteran charging deputy district attorney in our office. >> who made a determination to do it for this individual to our federal law enforcement partners. but the sheriff's office says that is completely inaccurate. they say they reached out to federal probation officers and work with them to get broke us probation, violated and get him off the street. the sheriff's office goes on to

say this is not the first time we have pointed out that the da did not charge something. it's been more consistent. this is not a war on the da's office. this is us being honest with the public with our community about what's happening. the rochas due in federal court on monday. dan kerman kron. 4 news. this just in to our newsroom. firefighters responding to a brush fire burning right now in vacaville. you can see the smoke rising there >> the fires burning in the area, peabody road and foxboro parkway. we've been reaching out to emergency crews to get some more information on this fire. and we're going to update you as soon as we hear back in because it is essentially fire season. kathy, what's happened in the weather center? >> it's fire season and we have fire weather to match. so it's no surprise that if you brush fires have started to pop up a little bit. this is the time of year. we really have to be careful about it. temperatures outside right now as warm as 90 degrees in concord. and of course, cooler

at the coast at 57 degrees. as you might expect, temperature change compared to yesterday, considerably cooler. the cooldown has begun this weekend will be quite a bit cooler as much as 10 degrees cooler today in santa rosa and 2 degrees cooler in oakland. in terms of wind, that's another ingredient for the fires, the heat plus the wind. well, it's quite breezy point rays at 20 miles per hour at this point and 16 out coming down a little bit in san francisco. but in the east bay, concord, 14 miles per hour winds, oakland, 16. so the trend, it is much cooler conditions will take little more as an example because the inland areas will see the coolest temperatures this weekend. the biggest cooldown that is today hitting 89 degrees in some of the warmer areas down to seasonable 70's for the next 3 days into monday. and then when you look at the temperatures pop up as we head into tuesday and wednesday, so looking a okay for the weekend into monday.

>> all right. cathy, thanks a lot happening right now, protesters rallying and from the san francisco federal building in solidarity with the people of rafah. this comes following israeli air strike that killed at least 45 people into tent camp late sunday night. the group organizing the event is demanding the u.s. imposed an arms embargo with israel and all of this happening as hundreds of faith leaders from across california were in san francisco today praying for peace in gaza. the event was held outside senator alex padilla is office. also part of a demonstration calling on the senator to vote against what organizers say is u.s. complicity in the killing that is happening in gaza. those participating say they're calling on senator padilla because he voted in favor of additional military weapons to be sent to israel. they hope this gathering will lead to a meeting with the senator to discuss the release of all hostages on both sides of the conflict as well as an immediate cease-fire.

>> law anforcement in riot gear began clearing encampments from the uc santa cruz campus very early this morning. protesters upset about the conflict in gaza between hamas and israel have been camped out there for weeks around. 100 protesters remained on scene after being pushed back by police. the school says multiple arrests have been made, but they did not say how many demonstrators say the school has gone too far. >> so what's the mood amongst everybody right the mood is really, really we're we're quite frankly, were people are out there. they're yelling and the screaming because this enormous violation of her constitutional rights and a overboard reaction in terms the level of brutality that we're witnessing. >> the university says they have been asking the protesters to leave and stop blocking access to the school to no avail. in a statement, they defended their decision to move to move in saying it is imperative we restore full

access to our campus and and other unlawful unsafe actions as demonstrators continue to disrupt campus operations and threaten safety, even delaying access of emergency vehicles. it was impossible to do so without law enforcement intervention. meantime, the bay-area mural program or bam is holding a fundraiser tonight to raise awareness and money for the war in gaza. the event will feature live music and art work to raise money for the cause of freedom for flotilla. >> the goal is to send bay area residents along with supplies on a fleet of boats to help the relief efforts in gaza. the fundraiser for bay to gaza will be from 6 to 10 o'clock tonight at their oakland location on san pablo avenue. the owner of savemart lucky food, maxx and value food grocery stores is being fined. 1.6 million dollars for violating state health and safety laws. the district attorneys of myr and solano and sonoma counties are part of this lawsuit. prosecutors

say they found a recurring failure by the company to remove expired over-the-counter medications, baby food and infant formula beyond their use by dates since at least 2018, the da office's say consumers should be or should pay close attention to expiration dates. a fisherman's wharf businesses being shut down after they tried to bribe an undercover fbi agent. >> man and high paik o knicks lighthouse on taylor street charges filed last year alleged they tried to bribe an undercover fbi agent and a port employee to try to secure leases on to other vacant restaurant properties in the lucrative tourist area. the city employee notify their supervisor which led to the city alerting the authorities. and according to court documents, the couple is due in court on tuesday. >> beer lovers rejoice, san francisco's iconic anchor brewing company is coming back. yeah, we actually learned today that the founder

and ceo of chobani yogurt company bought anchor brewing and says that he plans to preserve the brand kron four's gayle ong. joining us in studio with the details and reaction. gal. >> daniel? well, the new ceo buying all of anchor brewing, including its per hill factory. former anchor employees say they did not expect to hear about a new buyer today, but it is welcome news. >> good news to wake up to anchor sf cooperative board chair patrick costello waking up to excited calls and text messages friday morning after turkish billionaire haim de la caja announced he is buying anchor brewing up the mystic. this guy scenes like a good guy. >> especially with some of the statements he's made in public about wanting to hire most, if not all the staff. look, is a founder and ceo of chobani yogurt. >> look, i was not available for an interview friday but called anchor brewing, quote, a grand jewel in a social media post. the 127 year old

brewery ceased production last year, citing financial struggles, a group of brewery employees tried to buy the company, but that effort failed. while the terms of the agreement were not released. kron 4 has learned the purchase includes all of anchors assets, which include the beers trademark steam beer recipe. the potrero hill campus and all the brewing equipment and anchors de haro street warehouse facility anchor has been a staple in our community for decades and the loss of jobs, loss of business. >> what it did to our economy was something that was devastated revise or shamann walton met with the company's new owner. one of my first questions was how is he going to reach out to employees that have been represented in? this is something that he is willing to do it. so we're going to, of course, when that happens. so we can move forward in a positive light. >> costello echoing that sentiment now hopeful to return to a job he's held for 7 years. we're hoping that we could start off on a good foot and anchor steam again.

>> take a look at all >> well, it's the eve of pride month in oakland and they are celebrating. officials held a flag raising ceremony earlier today. the city holds pride celebrations until september. but mayor sheng thao welcomes residents to support the rights of the lgbtq+ community, of course, in the month of june. >> san francisco also ringing and the beginning of pride month. city officials hanging a huge rainbow flag over saks 5th avenue and union square this morning. this year's team for the city is a beacon of love filled with events almost daily leading to the big parade on june. 30th. all of that details are on sf pride dot org. >> walnut creek also raised a pride flag outside of city hall today. and tomorrow the city is going to be holding 2 pride events, including a drag queen story time similar events held in other bay area. cities have in the past drawn

protesters. the kron four's philippe djegal reports city officials expect a positive crowd. >> for the second time in 2 years, the city of walnut creek will host drag queen story time plus crafts. last year's inaugural event was held at the leisure center for the arts and kevin safina says it was a big hit. kids are very engaged. >> parents are happy. we had people coming to the problem again, not just one creek, but from throughout the areas of fema is the city's director of arts and recreation and says having preschoolers and early elementary school students listen to a drag. queen read books is born from the city. council's directive is offering programming that promotes diversity equity. >> and inclusion. the message is tolerance >> and speaking to the community who really values this and making sure everyone feels welcome and belonging here. the reading will be held saturday at civic park assembly hall on civic drive from 11 in the morning until noon. it's the city's second

pride event of the day. >> both happening across the street from the police department and city hall. that's where several times this year city council meetings have been disrupted by people spewing hate speech. >> and so theme is well aware that right-wing extremist groups have bombarded bay area drag queen story time events in the past. most notably in 2022, when the proud boys frightened children and their families at the san lorenzo library in castro valley. to the extent that we have people who have different opinions, we welcome that >> and we're prepared to address there's any concerns that come during the time we have this but we're looking forward to walnut creek, embracing the community here, which is we are very inclusive community. and so we're looking part of successful event. theme says the police department will be in position to respond to any public safety issues. >> the event is free but advance registration is required for children and they must be accompanied by an

hall. another planet entertainmdnt. the promoter behind the event says although fans found out about it last week. >> in a tweet from skrillex, it's been in the works for months. it's been hard to keep a secret. we started working on this in february. >> and he's gone through some different iterations different designs when it's all said and done, we're probably going to have about 1200 people working on this that. >> another planet is teaming at was san francisco's wrecks in part to put on the show says this event will have a positive impact for the downtown area. great part about this is that it benefits people who live in downtown people who work in it also benefits all the hotels nearby restaurants, retail so it's really a win-win for the city. >> this is a great way to activate downtown and several road closures and changes to me. >> are taking place due to the concert. >> muni and were at their adding so wait, re-injured is going to have more capacity. we're working with bart civic

makes its move on us as it starts to head in toward tuesday, wednesday, thursday, high pressure is in command. that is a very hot forecast for us. but not tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow 50's 60's along the coast. beautiful conditions down like cool compared to today. looking for 60 degrees in burlingame tomorrow and 70 degrees as we head to mountain view south bay looking at 70's, nothing in the 80's there, although we do get into the 80's in parts of the east bay. so as you can see, not quite 90 83 degrees in pleasant and 80 for concord as you head up toward the north bay yacht feel 88 degrees. 85 santa rosa. 64 point race. it's a beautiful forecast. look at that. cool seasonal temperatures. saturday sunday, monday. and what we go on to say hunting on there's an exact excessive heat advisory in effect for in just a extreme parts of so it's a

charge someone with domestic violence. capitol correspondent eytan wallace stop with the lawmaker behind the bill and has her message for victims. we do want to warn you, though, that some viewers may find parts of the story to be disturbing. >> well, the state senator who authored this bill says it's all about protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable to victims out there. i wanted to understand that we are fighting every day to make sure that you are state. that's the message states. senator susan rubio baldwin park says she sending with her bill sb 690, if signed into law. the legislation would extend the statute of limitations in domestic violence cases, giving prosecutors more time to charge domestic violence suspects as it stands today. state law allows prosecutors to charge someone up to 5 years after an alleged domestic violence incident took place but should sb 690, be signed. prosecutors will be allowed to chart some up to 15 years after that incident. this will be victims of time too, to breeze. 2 x help seek

help. >> and really put all their affairs in order in order to meet a situation safely. a survivor herself. rubio says this issue is especially important to her. she was the state senator behind the 2019 law that increased the domestic violence statute of limitations to its current 5 years. >> but she says after meeting with countless survivors, she believes 5 years is not enough. she also says this recently released video showing music mogul sean diddy combs punching and kicking ex-girlfriend in 2016. makes it clear why survivors are afraid to speak out. combs apologized after the video was released. i make no excuses. >> hate you on that video inexcusable. but as california last dance day because combs incident took place more than 5 years ago. >> the statute of limitations has now expired meaning too much time already passed to file charges. it takes an average of 8 to 10 years for victims to get over that trauma. so michael is to give victims a little bit more time

get help. >> make sure that their state but one pray that their families are safe. the bill already received bipartisan support from the state senate. but the proposal does face opposition from the california public defenders association. >> who wrote this in part, quote, the extension of the statute of limitations will result in the conviction of innocent people is bad public policy andwe scarce resources that could be better spent on evidence-based and effective strategies to end domestic violence. rubio disagrees to those that continue to my bill. i would speak to victims. >> talk to the impression and see what they have to do. i think is fun. shots and not to allow victims to seek justice when they're ready. not some of those that oppose the bill say that they should come forward. >> and to be clear, the bill is not retroactive, meaning it will apply only to domestic violence incidents that take place after it signed into law. it next heads to the assembly appropriations committee reporting at the state capitol. a tonn wallace
