measure here the zoo is set to started. 8 o'clock this morning san jose mayor matt mahan, second state of the city address will start at 8 o'clock so very soon is being held here at happy hollow park and zoo. and we're being told he will speak today up on the progress made by the city and the road ahead. the mayor will be announcing his quote, strategic investment in unsheltered homelessness in the area. but this is also a day of service and mayor's office expecting hundreds of san jose residents to come down for service projects as well. today. so this is what will happen this morning. the mayor's going to speak at 8.20. there will be some formal programs and then the service projects will start at 10, 15 or actually being told that the mayor should be arriving soon at 7.30. but as you guys can tell, there are some people are already arriving here. you have a lot of police officers here on standby as well. we do know that the law enforcement's going to be here. community

members are going to be here, but community leaders are going to hear. >> as well, we'll bring more about this to you all morning long. that to studio. all right, stephanie, thank you for your coverage. >> and also this morning, the santa clara county sheriff's office is looking for a second victim in an assault case. that attack happened at a vta pop warm deputies arrested a suspect on friday was jeff moment has the latest details and reaction from riders. >> the video you're about to see here might be hard to watch a full on assault captured on security camera, santa clara county sheriff's office says the suspect is this man. 26 year-old andrew paris. he was arrested after a standoff with deputies on wednesday and is now charged with attempted murder assault with a deadly weapon and a new charge of stalking and disturbing the peace. the man perez allegedly attacked was taken to the hospital and expected to survive. >> so this is the approximate spot right here where santa clara county's office says that the suspect carried out

have been asking protesters to leave and to stop blocking access to the school. >> but they say that those demonstrators did not listen in a statement. the school defended their decision to involve police saying that they needed to put an end to the so-called unlawful and unsafe actions of demonstrators. they say protesters had disrupted campus operations and even delayed access of emergency vehicles as they cannot restore full access to campus without the help of police as well. the county sheriff's office thanked federal officers for taking what they described as a dangerous criminal off the streets. it's something they say the da's office refused to do by not filing charges in an assault case. rob was dan kerman reports. >> alameda county district attorney pamela price is under fire this time from another law enforcement agency for letting violent criminals walk the street in a facebook post, the alameda county sheriff's office is thanking federal law enforcement officers for doing the job prices office should have done in the first place.

the sheriff's office says robert bureau coe was arrested in mid-may for a january stabbing. in the words, micah state park. the sheriff's office despite being identified by the victim and having a criminal history dating back at least 30 years. but federal drug and weapons convictions, da prices office chose not to prosecute. i'm not even surprise. carl chan is head of the committee trying to recall da pamela price. you know, it's quite upsetting. >> again, it is also proving that, you know, the d a his son, a bulk at the farm, you a job directed in a statement. prices office says this matter was reviewed. >> by a veteran charging deputy district attorney in our office who made a determination to do it for this individual to our federal law enforcement partners. but the sheriff's office says that is completely inaccurate. they say they reached out to federal probation officers and work with them to get broke us probation, violated and get him off the street. the

only been delayed. that's going to take us into sunday night overnight. look how thick that marine layer is and a little weak system up towards our north, possibility maybe on monday morning. some coastal drizzle that's going to be again, focus more up towards the north and we'll have a little bit more of a tougher time to mix that out for afternoon. we should see a lot of sun still making its way, but it could be folks inland monday afternoon. but will this be more that nuisance fog and lower level moisture hanging around today? look at the winds pop, particularly at the coast here. we'll see some good breezy conditions inland as well. and you add with that, the fact the temperatures, but on the mild side for today. so it's almost like a spring breeze you're going to get and it looks like that will be replicated tomorrow. those winds hold together pretty late at night. if you noticed. and this is sunday evening as reproach, about 9 o'clock still quite breezy and many locations there. so the breakdown for you today, no, no delays out sfo either with some of that fog in place, mostly sunny and nice 70's for the bay and inland tomorrow, a touch warmer going to pop some

against richard alan davis yesterday. kron four's terisa stuff. co reports. >> both sides sat quietly inside a santa clara county courtroom friday, awaiting the judge's decision at issue should richard alan davis get off death row davis was convicted in 1996 of killing 12 year-old polly klass after kidnapping her from her mom's petaluma home during the sleepover. >> a jury initially handed down the death penalty in the case. but 2 years ago with senate bill wiped out mandatory sentencing enhancements used by the jury. davis's attorneys use that to file for re-sentencing bid in an effort to have it reduced davis, like other death row inmates were moved from san quentin when governor newsom put a moratorium on the death penalty and 2019 our classes, polly's dad. >> based on a new law. retroactively throws out special circumstances and that makes rooms like richard alan

davis to eligible for re-sentencing hearings. justices that who done something like this, only the bad guy. >> the judge eventually sided with prosecutors saying the davis's case did not qualify for recent greatly. >> because the judge was very clear and very decisive in ruling that there is absolutely no place to go with. class also added this during sentencing and 96 davis infamously made an obscene gesture. >> to him and the courtroom class says that when it comes to having any closure in this case, he has strong opinions, especially based on davis's actions. then and now. >> no longer this guys alive. there's no real closure. proven by his words and deeds and his actions in his testimony that there's not going to be ending any anything. justice will follow.

details can be found on sf pride dot org. walnut creek joined oakland and san francisco and raising a pride flag outside city hall yesterday. today the city holds 2 pride events including a drag queen story time similar events held in other bay area cities in the past have drawn protesters. but as kron four's philippe djegal reports, city officials expect a positive turnout. >> for the second time in 2 years, the city of walnut creek will host drag queen story time plus crafts. last year's inaugural event was held at the lesser center for the arts and kevin safina says it was a big hit. kids are very engaged. parents are happy. we had people coming to the problem again, not just one creek, but from throughout the area. safina is the city's director of arts and recreation and says having preschoolers and early elementary school students listen to a drag. queen read books is born from the city. council's directive is offering programming that

promotes diversity equity and inclusion. the message is tolerance >> and speaking to the community who really values this and making sure everyone feels welcome and belonging here. the reading will be held saturday at civic park assembly hall on civic drive from 11 in the morning until noon. it's the city's second pride event of the day. >> both happening across the street from the police department and city hall. that's where several times this year city council meetings have been disrupted by people spewing hate speech. >> and so theme is well aware that right-wing extremist groups have bombarded bay area drag queen story time events in the past. most notably in 2022, when the proud boys frightened children and their families at the san lorenzo library. to the extent that we have people who have different opinions, we welcome that >> and we're prepared to address there's any concerns that come during the time we have this but we're looking

october 7th hamas attack on israel. san francisco police released body-cam footage this weekend showing a police shooting in the bayview neighborhood. >> watch drops. the crossbow to profit. >> report last week of someone with a rifle near jennings street in carroll avenue. police arrived, they found the suspect with a loaded crossbow. as you as you just heard there, one officer fired their gun. the suspect was not shot but was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. woman hit by a garbage truck earlier this year in san jose died last night. the crash happened in february on south white road near tully road. police say the truck hit the victim while she was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk. she died from her injuries yesterday. this is san jose's 20th deadly crash and 8th pedestrian death this year. police arrested 2 women

and recovered nearly $4,000 stolen makeup from the san francisco pharmacy. it happened thursday night at a store on 24th castro streets in the mission district. police say 19 year-old andrea glasser and 24 year-old engineer chi or went in the store, started filling up shopping bags with makeup before trying to leave. that's when police say they arrested the 2 women officers described the suspects as prolific retail thieves with outstanding warrants in other counties. >> for local election headquarters, the san francisco democratic party hosts a mayoral debate on june 17th. >> the debate is free and open to the public candidates. london breed mark farrell, daniel lurie, aaron peskin and stuff. i are set to participate. it happens at uc law in san francisco and prop for us to recess to moderates. we will also stream the event live. where president donald trump wasted no time trying to control the fallout after

spots just a lot of counties only kind of the talk about. now. let me add to that little later on. that's incredible. sunday is the first 90's we can expect of the you know, we already had nice little run a row. despite the biggest heat spike we've had so far, though. okay. and then a little relief coming in next weekend come with some clouds to. but, you all right. well, very good information there. thanks so much. >> all right. a new bill introduced in the state legislature gives 6 to give rather prosecutors more time charge someone with domestic violence. >> our capitol correspondent eytan wallace explains. >> well, the state senator who authored this bill says it's all about protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable to victims out there. i wanted to understand that we are fighting every day to make sure that you are state. that's the message states. senator susan rubio baldwin park says she sending with her bill sb 690, if signed into law. the legislation would extend the statute of limitations in domestic violence cases, giving prosecutors more time

to charge domestic violence suspects as it stands today. state law allows prosecutors to charge someone up to 5 years after an alleged domestic violence incident took place but should sb 690, be signed. prosecutors will be allowed to chart some up to 15 years after that incident. this will be victims of time too, to breathe. 2 x help seek help. >> and really put all their affairs in order in order to meet a situation safely. a survivor herself. rubio says this issue is especially important to her. she was the state senator behind the 2019 law that increased the domestic violence statute of limitations to its current 5 years. >> but she says after meeting with countless survivors, she believes 5 years is not enough. she also says this recently released video showing music mogul sean diddy combs punching and kicking ex-girlfriend in 2016. makes it clear why survivors are afraid to speak out. combs apologized after the video was released. i make no excuses.

>> a view on that video inexcusable. but as california last dance day because combs incident took place more than 5 years ago. >> the statute of limitations has now expired meaning too much time already passed to file charges. it takes an average of 8 to 10 years for victims to get over that trauma. >> so michael is to give victims a little bit more time heal. get help. make sure that their state but one party that their families are safe. the bill already received bipartisan support from the state senate. but the proposal does face opposition from the california public defenders association who wrote this in part, quote, the extension of the statute of limitations will result in the conviction of innocent people is bad public policy and way scarce resources that could be better spent on evidence-based and effective strategies to end domestic violence. >> rubio disagrees to those that continue to oppose my bill. i would speak to victims. >> talk to the impression and see what they have to do. i think is fun shot just and not

captured on security camera, santa clara county sheriff's office says the suspect is this man. 26 year-old andrew paris. he was arrested after a standoff with deputies on wednesday and is now charged with attempted murder assault with a deadly weapon. and a new charge of stalking and disturbing the peace. the man perez allegedly attacked was taken to the hospital and expected to survive. >> so this is the approximate spot right here where santa clara county's office says that the suspect carried out the attack. but now they're saying moments before that attack was carried out, the suspect was chasing around a second victim almost every day. >> david roadless has been riding the vta daily for 20 years. he says crime happens but not like you that was just some should that should be having that just he was done was was done by says similar not not binding this, that children's museum vta stop where the attack happened was

with said that they think the school has gone too far. >> so what's the mood amongst everybody right the mood is really, really we're we're quite frankly, were furious. people are out there. they're yelling and the screaming because this is enormous violation of her constitutional rights and a overboard reaction in terms the level of brutality that we're witnessing. university, however, says they have been asking protesters to leave and stop blocking access to the school. >> but take a look at this statement here now. the school is defending their decision to involve police saying they needed to put an end to the so-called unlawful and unsafe actions of the scene on campus. they say demonstrators had disrupted campus operations, even delaying access of emergency vehicles. the alameda county sheriff's office state federal officers for taking what they described for taking rather what they described as a dangerous criminal off the street. it's

sweater and jack a little bit in the morning hours before we get that cleared out of that and it's still going to be breezy even in the afternoon. 64 antioch, a lot of 50's for the east bay for right now. 52 half moon bay there. 53 for santa rosa. 54. meanwhile, for san francisco, let's go to future cast and whatever fall we have should mix out this afternoon with everybody enjoying the sunshine. but again, a little breezy to windy at the surface, particularly at the coast. now tomorrow's fog looks to be spilling much more to monterey and to the south, not so much in the north bay, kirk across the carquinez strait little bit further south. maybe even some coastal drizzle thrown in there to santa cruz mountains potentially as well. initially, though, some concern maybe would have this cloud cover. stick around tomorrow afternoon. no doesn't look like it because the system driving some of this. this is now sunday evening. that's got to be up to the north. and so that's sunday night into monday, potentially some sprinkles way up north there. but that just intensifies the marine layer translation, it keeps us in

sleepover. >> a jury initially handed down the death penalty in the case. but 2 years ago with senate bill wiped out mandatory sentencing enhancements used by the jury. davis's attorneys use that to file for re-sentencing bid in an effort to have it reduced davis, like other death row inmates were moved from san quentin when governor newsom put a moratorium on the death penalty and 2019 our classes, polly's dad. >> based on a new law. retroactively throws out special circumstances and that makes rooms like richard alan davis to eligible for re-sentencing hearings. justices map who done something like this. only the bad guy. >> the judge eventually sided with prosecutors saying the davis's case did not qualify for recent greatly. >> because the judge was very clear and very decisive in

rolling that there is absolutely no place to go with. class also added this during sentencing and 96 davis infamously made an obscene gesture. >> to him and the courtroom class says that when it comes to having any closure in this case, he has strong opinions, especially based on davis's actions. then and now. >> no longer this guys alive. there's no real closure. proven by his words and deeds and his actions in his testimony that there's not going to be ending any anything. justice will follow. you want remain our after paul is murder. mark last open up an organization in his daughter's name to help hundreds of families. >> try and locate missing children. he's expected to close that organization at the end of the year. in the newsroom. theresa kron, 4 news. pleasant hill. police arrested 3 people in connection to a killing of a

custodian. >> revealing a love triangle as the motive. the stabbing happened in february in the parking lot of pleasant hill park. police say 37 year-old cobo was found on the ground after his wife said he did not come home after his work shift at the park. investigators are cobo had been in a relationship with one of the suspects. well, another suspect was pursuing a new relationship with her. police say cobo in all 3 suspects knew each other and the suspects planned and coordinated the attack. a reminder for bart riders this weekend services between the 24th street mission and daly city stations are suspended all weekend. that includes the glen park and balboa park stations. this pause allows crews to make track improvements and clear vegetation. free bus rides will be available between affected stations. travelers are advised to expect delays of 30 minutes or more. in the east bay. boys burgers hosted an autism family dinner and market authors, creators and

the popular sundance film festival will not be coming to san francisco anytime soon. the city's film commission announced last month it submitted a bid to become the new host city for sundance. but the film commission's executive director shared in an e-mail the city did not advance in the selection process. sundance is typically held up the february in park city, utah. that's about an hour outside salt lake. it is looking for a new home after twenty-twenty 6. unfortunately it's not going to be san francisco. the irs meantime expands direct file its free tax filing program nationwide starting in 2025. more than 140,000 users successfully filed returns using direct filed during the 2024 season. the pilot saved an estimated 5.6 million dollars in tax prep. these focusing on simple filings. the irs is expected

positive turnout. >> for the second time in 2 years, the city of walnut creek will host drag queen story time plus crafts. last year's inaugural event was held at the lesser center for the arts and kevin safina says it was a big hit. kids are very engaged. parents are happy. we had people coming to the problem again, not just one creek, but from throughout the area. safina is the city's director of arts and recreation and says having preschoolers and early elementary school students listen to a drag. queen read books is born from the city. council's directive is offering programming that promotes diversity equity and inclusion. the message is tolerance >> and speaking to the community who really values this and making sure everyone feels welcome and belonging here. the reading will be held saturday at civic park assembly hall on civic drive from 11 in the morning until noon. it's the city's second yppride event of the day.

you got it. you ask for you. got love to see all that sunshine out there. thanks so much. get better. >> all right. great. well, a new bill introduced in the legislature seeks to give prosecutors more time charge someone with domestic violence. >> our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> well, the state senator who authored this bill says it's all about protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable to victims out there. i wanted to understand that we are fighting every day to make sure that you are state. that's the message states. senator susan rubio baldwin park says she sending with her bill sb 690, if signed into law. the legislation would extend the statute of limitations in domestic violence cases, giving prosecutors more time to charge domestic violence suspects as it stands today. state law allows prosecutors to charge someone up to 5 years after an alleged domestic violence incident took place but should sb 60, be signed. prosecutors will be allowed to chart some up to 15 years after that incident. this will be victims of time too. 2 breeze, 2 x help seek

help. >> and do put all their affairs in order in order to meet a situation safely. a survivor herself. rubio says this issue is especially important to her. she was the state senator behind the 2019 law that increased the domestic violence statute of limitations to its current 5 years. >> but she says after meeting with countless survivors, she believes 5 years is not enough. she also says this recently released video showing music mogul sean diddy combs punching and kicking ex-girlfriend in 2016. makes it clear why survivors are afraid to speak out. combs apologized after the video was released. i make no excuses. >> a view on that video inexcusable. but as california last dance day because combs incident took place more than 5 years ago. >> the statute of limitations has now expired meaning too much time already passed to file charges. it takes an average of 8 to 10 years for victims to get over that trauma. so michael is to give

victims a little bit more time get help. >> make sure that their state but one pray that their families are safe. the bill already received bipartisan support from the state senate. but the proposal does face opposition from the california public defenders association. >> who wrote this in part, quote, the extension of the statute of limitations will result in the conviction of innocent people is bad public policy and way scarce resources that could be better spent on evidence-based and effective strategies to end domestic violence. rubio disagrees to those that continue to my bill. i would speak to victims. >> talk to the impression and see what they have to do. i think is fun just and not to allow victims to seek justice when they're ready. not some of those that oppose the bill say that they should come forward. >> and to be clear, the bill is not retroactive, meaning it will apply only to domestic violence incidents that take place after it signed into it next heads to the assembly appropriations committee reporting at the state

santa cruz friday morning. protesters upset about the conflict in gaza have camped out on campus for several weeks, tents and barricades blocking the main entrance to the campus were taken down by officers. protesters we spoke with said they think the school has gone too far. >> so what's the mood amongst everybody right the mood is really, really we're we're quite frankly, were furious. people are out there. they're yelling and the screaming because this is enormous violation of her constitutional rights and a overboard reaction in terms the level of brutality that we're witnessing. >> the university, however, says they have been asking the demonstrators to leave and to stop blocking access to the school. a statement, the school defended its decision to involve pice saying they needed to put an end to the so-called unlawful and unsafe actions of demonstrators. they say protesters disrupted campus operations and even delayed access of emergency vehicles. the alameda county

sheriff's office thanked federal officers for taking what they describe as a dangerous criminal off of the street. it's something they say. the district attorney's office refused to do by not filing charges in an assault case. hope for is dan kerman reports. >> alameda county district attorney pamela price is under fire this time from another law enforcement agency for letting violent criminals walk the street in a facebook post, the alameda county sheriff's office is thanking federal law enforcement officers for doing the job prices office should have done in the first place. the sheriff's office says robert bureau coe was arrested in mid-may for a january stabbing. in the words, micah state park. the sheriff's office despite being identified by the victim and having a criminal history dating back at least 30 years. but federal drug and weapons convictions, da prices office chose not to prosecute. i'm not even surprise. carl chan is head of the committee trying to recall da pamela price. you know, it's quite

a judge denied a petition to recall the death sentence against richard alan davis yesterday. kron four's terisa stasio reports. >> both sides sat quietly inside a santa clara county courtroom friday, awaiting the judge's decision at issue should richard alan davis get off death row davis was convicted in 1996 of killing 12 year-old polly klass after kidnapping her from her mom's petaluma home during the sleepover. >> a jury initially handed down the death penalty in the case. but 2 years ago with senate bill wiped out mandatory sentencing enhancements used by the jury. davis's attorneys use that to file for re-sentencing bid in an effort to have it reduced davis, like other death row inmates were moved from san quentin when governor newsom put a moratorium on the death penalty and 2019 our classes, polly's dad. >> they start a new law. retroactively throws out

special circumstances and that makes like richard alan davis to eligible for re-sentencing hearings. we want justices that who gets served in something like this, only the bad guy. >> the judge eventually sided with prosecutors saying the davis's case did not qualify for recent greatly. >> because the judge was very clear and very decisive in ruling that there is absolutely no place to go with. class also added this during sentencing and 96 davis infamously made an obscene gesture. >> to him and the courtroom class says that when it comes to having any closure in this case, he has strong opinions, especially based on davis's actions. then and now. >> know, as long as this guys alive, there's no real closure proven by his words and deeds and his actions in his testimony that there's not going to be ending any anything. justice will follow.

20,000 fans. >> really fell in love with the idea of playing the show in front city hall. and i'm proud of that because i'd i love or city hall, another planet entertainment. the promoter behind the event says although fans found out about it last week in a tweet from skrillex, it's been in the works for months. it's been hard to keep a secret. we started working on this in february. >> and he's gone through some different iterations different designs when it's all said and done, we're probably going to have about 1200 people working on this that. >> another planet is teaming at was san francisco's rec. some part to put on the show says this event will have a positive impact for the downtown area. great part about this is that it benefits people who live in downtown people who work in it also benefits all the hotels nearby restaurants, retail so it's really a win-win for the city. >> this is a great way to activate downtown and several road closures and changes to me. >> are taking place due to the

actually help maybe raise a couple sprinkles at the coast again with that onshore wind at work. there you have a pop look at the coast here. how active it is right across the carquinez strait. it will be all day today. even tonight takes a bit of a breather. is we get to sunday morning. but then by sunday afternoon, there is an sunday evening, even quite active one with that system piecing off from the jet that will bring us also some winds a little bit into monday to so breezy you can expect of the spring breeze because when it's over, you'll feel it now for today, mostly sunny and nice. this is us here for you. 70's for the bay and inland. a couple ladies put a poking out here and there variable clouds tomorrow for the bay will call it sunny inland with a touch warmer and the next week variable clouds again, mild. but then not so much tuesday, wednesday, even thursday, although we do backtrack into wednesday. but a big heat spike coming our way for the middle of the week. 65 san francisco, 77 san jose oakland, about 70 looking mostly sunny. but again, that breeze highs today. you got those 80's off east around the

heartfelt way in this production, which is so fantastical. mozart wrote this piece is this fantastic hero's journey and this production is full of the incredible projections. some of the characters, a huge spy does, for example, out the magic of theater really comes alive with this production. and tell us a bit about the story line as well, a story of a prince who falls for wonderful prince princess story not and he goes on this quest through various trials to both find hair and also finding life meant as well. but it's updated into the world of silent film. and so these incredible visuals from the 1920's is a propel us to the story. yeah, and we're seeing some of those visuals up on the screen here. we want to make sure of get a chance to experience get a preview of that. this looks just this is just incredibly >> fascinating. and so this is what people will experience when they >> go watch magic flute themselves. that's right. you can see here how the performers interact live with

the with the video. >> the video happens around them that pushed up onto the ledges and then the creates this magical. well, the piece goes on, allow that's just incredible. and >> to clarify what language is this saying this is sung in german, but we have english super title so you can and yes, everyone, okay. yeah. it's perfect. the first time i went to the opera was like my wonderful, be able to follow. but yes, you guys do a great job of projecting those subtitles up there and people can for enjoy the performance so easily in that way. tell us up to about innocence, which is tonight. that's a big one. innocence opens tonight. as you say, it is one of the most important nights i think in this theater because this is the american premiere of what i would say is one of >> the really most incredible new operas to have been this operation by a finnish composer kious saariaho has had huge success in it's being called a masterpiece various reviews. and it's all about how families deal with a really deep tragedy in this

case is the tragedy that through school shooting. so it's issue which is very much in the news, too often. but this piece explores it through incredible array of different emotional world's we see parts of the story that we don't usually get to see in the news media. and so it takes us through how this family, this community, it's finding its way forward the 10 years that follows tragic incident. music is just absolutely sublime. son in 9 different languages to give it a real sense of universality and this production, which is always on the move this this cube, which rotates 2 stories high and as it rotates around, the crew is a different locations. so just continually morphs as it morphs. it takes our emotions on that journey as i really hope people come see this. it's a very proud moment for san francisco that we have the

american premiere of this work. absolutely. how long is that running for that will run until june 21st. so few a few weeks to come and see this. okay. fantastic. and you that this story does highlight something that is very top of mind for lots of folks in the united states, which is the topic of >> gun violence. a huge tragedy that continues to touch so many lives here. was that intentional? on the offers part introduce material of this nature of because there is a sense of connectivity to this to the community here. i i really feel the upper house should be a place where the community comes to sharing stories that have meaning to them. think that was always the intent of opera was that it was a place for storytelling. so when i heard about this piece, which is actually back in 2015, i just knew it had to come to san francisco. it had to come to america. this is a story that we have to address in this country. all right. and tell us also about part to do them. i say that right up 10 up tent up the case use not at all. and i think we'll go all right for 10 up. and that's coming into week. that's

film festival will not be coming to san francisco anytime soon. the city

commission announced last month that submitted a bid to become the new host city for sundance. >> but the film commission's executive director shared in an e-mail the city did not advance in the selection process. sundance is typically held every february in park city, utah, about an hour outside salt lake. it is looking for a new home after twenty-twenty 6, but it just won't be san francisco. unfortunately, irs expands direct file its free tax filing program nationwide starting in 2025. more than 140,000 users successfully filed returns using direct filed during the 2024 season. the pilots saved an estimated 5.6 million dollars in tax prep. these focusing on simple filings. the irs is expected to share more details later this year. and tesla is recalling more than 125,000 electric vehicles due to a malfunction in the seatbelt warning system, the national highway traffic safety administration says the seatbelt warning light and audible chime might not activate when the driver does

turkish billionaire haim de la caja announced he is buying anchor brewing up a mistake. this guy scenes. >> like a good guy. >> especially with some of the statements he's made in public about wanting to hire >> most, if not all the staff. look, is a founder and ceo of chobani yogurt. >> look, i was not available for an interview friday but called anchor brewing, quote, a grand jewel in a social media post. the 127 year old brewery cease production last year citing financial struggles, a group of brewery employees tried to buy the company, but that effort failed. while the terms of the agreement were not released. kron 4 has learned the purchase includes all of anchors assets, which include the beers trademark steam beer recipe. the potrero hill campus and all the brewing equipment in anchor's the haro street warehouse facility anchor has been a staple our community for decades and the loss of jobs, loss of business. >> what it did to our economy was something that was

devastated. supervisor shamann walton met with the company's new owner. one of my first questions was how is he going to reach out to they put is that have been represented in. this is something that he is willing to do it. so we're going to, of course, when that happened so we can move forward in a positive light. >> costello echoing that sentiment now hopeful to return to a job he's held for 7 years. we're hoping that we could start off on a good foot and anchor steam again. >> on kron, 4 news. >> take a look at me. >> the city of oakland is celebrating pride month. as you can see there officials held a flag raising ceremony on friday and while june is officially recognized as pride month, the city host pride celebrations until september. san francisco also ringing in the start of pride. city officials hanging this huge flag over saks 5th avenue in

union square friday morning. this year's theme is a beacon of love in san francisco is very much that the month is expected to be packed with events leading up to the big parade on june. 30th. more details can be found on sf pride dot org. and while the creek joined oakland and san francisco and raising a pride flag outside city hall yesterday today the city holds 2 pride events including a drag queen story time similar events held in other bay area. cities in the past have drawn protesters. but as kron philippe djegal reports, city officials expect a positive turn. >> for the second time in 2 years, the city of walnut creek will host drag queen story time plus crafts. last year's inaugural event was held at the leisure center for the arts and kevin safina says it was a big hit. kids are very engaged. parents are happy. we had people coming to the from again, not just one creek, but from throughout the areas of fema is the city's director of arts and recreation and says having

preschoolers and early elementary school students listen to a drag. queen read books is born from the city. council's directive is offering programming that promotes diversity equity and inclusion. the message is tolerance >> and speaking to the community who really values this and making sure everyone feels welcome and belonging here. the reading will be held saturday at civic park assembly hall on civic drive from 11 in the morning until noon. it's the city's second pride event of the day. >> both happening across the street from the police department and city hall. that's where several times this year city council meetings have been disrupted by people spewing hate speech. >> and so theme is well aware that right-wing extremist groups have bombarded bay area drag queen story time events in the past. most notably in 2022, when the proud boys frightened children and their families at the san lorenzo library. to the extent that we

have people who have different opinions, we welcome that >> and we're prepared to address there's any concerns that come during the time we have this but we're looking forward to walnut creek, embracing the community here, which is we are very inclusive community. and so we're looking part of successful event. says the police department will be in position to respond to any public safety issues. >> the event is free but advance registration is required for children and they must be accompanied by an adult in walnut creek. philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news. well, this year's pride celebrations also come with warnings from federal authorities. >> the fbi says foreign terrorists or their u.s. based allies may target lgbtq+ venues and events throughout the month leading the possible hate crime or violence. we spoke with san francisco officials on this issue. >> a very good grasp what's normal behavior for their surroundings. encourage them

that they see something that's very suspicious, very out of the that they report that. >> the fbi says the volume and intensity of propaganda increased after the october 7th hamas attack in israel. francisco police released body-cam footage this weekend showing a police shooting in the bayview neighborhood. >> a draft of the crossbow to profit. >> the report last week of someone with a rifle near jennings street in carroll avenue. when police got to the scene, they found the suspect with a loaded crossbow. officer fired their gun. the suspect was not shot but was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. a woman hit by a garbage truck earlier this year in san jose died last night. the crash happened in february on south white road near tully road. police say the truck hit the victim while she was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk. she died from her injuries yesterday. this is san jose's 20th deadly crash

and 8th pedestrian deaths this year. police arrested 2 women and recovered nearly $4,000 in stolen makeup from the san francisco pharmacy. it happened thursday night at a store on 24th and castro streets in the mission district. police say 19 year-old andrea class or and 24 year-old engine higher. what in the store started filling up shopping bags with makeup before trying to leave. that's when police say they arrested the 2 women officers described the suspects as prolific retail thieves with outstanding warrants in other counties. new bill introduced in the legislature seeks to give prosecutors more time to charge someone with domestic violence. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> well, the state senator who authored this bill says it's all about protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable to victims out there. i wanted to understand that we are fighting every day to make sure thank you our state. that's the message

states. senator susan rubio baldwin park says she sending with her bill sb 690, if signed into law. the legislation would extend the statute of limitations in domestic violence cases, giving prosecutors more time to charge domestic violence suspects as it stands today. state law allows prosecutors to charge someone up to 5 years after an alleged domestic violence incident took place but should sb 690, be signed. prosecutors will be allowed to chart some up to 15 years after that incident. this will be victims of time too. 2 breeze, 2 x help seek help and do put all their affairs in order in order to meet a situation safely. a survivor herself. rubio says this issue is especially important to her. she was the state senator behind the 2019 law that increased the domestic violence statute of limitations to its current 5 years. but she says after meeting with countless survivors, she believes 5 years is not enough. she also says this recently released video showing music mogul sean diddy combs punching and kicking ex-girlfriend in 2016.

makes it clear why survivors are afraid to speak out. combs apologized after the video was released. i make no excuses. >> a view on that video inexcusable. but as california last dance day because combs incident took place more than 5 years ago. >> the statute of limitations has now expired meaning too much time already passed to file charges. it takes an average of 8 to 10 years for victims to get over that trauma. so michael is to give victims a little bit more time get help. >> make sure that their state but one party that their families are safe. the bill already received bipartisan support from the state senate. but the proposal does face opposition from the california public defenders association who wrote this in part, quote, the extension of the statute of limitations will result in the conviction of innocent people is bad public policy and way scarce resources that could be better spent on evidence-based and effective strategies to end domestic

violence. rubio disagrees to those that continue to my bill. i would speak to victims, talked to the impression and see what they have to do. i think is unjust and cruel not to allow victims to seek justice when they're ready. not some of those that oppose the bill say that they should come forward and to be clear, the bill is not retroactive, meaning it will apply only to domestic violence incidents that take place after it signed into it next heads to the assembly appropriations committee. >> reporting at the state capitol, a tonn wallace kron. 4 news. >> the kron 4 is your local election headquarters. the san francisco democratic party host a mayoral debate on june 17th. that debate is free and open to the public candidates. london breed mark farrell, daniel lurie, aaron peskin justify are set to participate. it happens that you see law in san francisco four's terisa stasio moderates. we will also stream that event live on our streaming service kron-on. >> all right. how about a

parents and teens are parents who lost their kids in our so it wasn't something those far is right here, right in our school district school community. and so about rrally caught our, you know, community on their feet when it came addressing this epidemic. was really initial stages of this project. and so but growing up in taipei, taiwan and moving here and adjusting to the high school culture. there are a lot of things that i didn't necessarily know. and so, for example, you know, on campus, you know, a lot of teenagers to use substances on there's party culture in america. and those were all things that are new to me. and so when i got here to the united states, i was born in san francisco and i moved to taiwan. but when i got to back to the bay area, i really had to adjust to all these things. and i just it was a question that i kept asking myself is why are teens self-medicating do something that i was asking all the way from the beginning and then

dot really developed into something that i wanted pursue with this project. and our school community. they were desperate for, you know, looking for resources to build, educate the teenagers and their parents on this specific epidemic. and so, yeah. >> it truly is heartbreaking to hear that. yes, these incidents are happening right now are very own backyard here at local school districts in the bay area. tell us about the different stories that you're telling and this documentary and how you were able to find peers who are brave to enough to speak up and share their stories. yeah. so i think the most important thing that this project really talks about is not only that the general fund fentanyl epidemic, but also the wind behind teenage self medication. >> there's just so many things contribute to why teenagers self-medicate in the first place. so i was grateful enough interview parents who unfortunately lost their kids teams. we experimented with

paramedics who were, you know, on site when the have to tell parents if your teenager has passed. but, you know, i think having it being teen led is the most important thing that this contributes to society there's not many teenage resources out there that are approaching it from a teenage lead and i feel like having all these perspectives come together really contributes to that narrative. narration of hope and that this is a teenage led movement and needs evolve on that home. >> and kyle, you've gotten such incredible interest from public health officials here in the bay area. you just did a screening in partnership with the san francisco public health department. i believe that we were showing some images from that san francisco jazz as well. and we're also showing some images of some of the cast members, real people, you know, who who have been affected by this crisis. you mentioned that you wanted to uncover and really highlight why your your peers are self-medicating. as you put it. what were some of the

reasons? >> so, you know, there so many reasons, but i would say on a general level, you know, high school culture is a thing of its own. you know, there's clicks. there's peer pressure theirs academic stress. there's domestic stress and i would say huge factor was the lack of communication home, but also on campus, you know, having a lack of communication home or if a the teen is not satisfied with the level of validation affection, the tension that they're receiving a home, they're going to go outside the household to look for that and other places. and unfortunately and in this day and age, lot of teams formed on healthy coping mechanisms such as drugs, alcohol partying. and it's it's quite form of escapism for a lot of kids. so and divorce within households, a young age that also has stopped that that's a big thing among a lot of the cast members to that were involved in this project. one of my cast members actually just had her to your sobriety.

so it's been a very 30 p to process for a lot of the teams have been involved in this project. >> well, thank you so much for surfacing these important stories and how do you have a if are parents for policymakers about what we can collectively do to address this issue that is taking so many lives. >> so most importantly or at minimum, i would say. any poll that is offered to a teenager in your hand. if it is not prescribed to you by doctor or pharmacist. you have you should assume that it can kill you. it is. that is not a risk. do you want to take in des moines that takes only about 2 milligrams to kill you epidemic. it's not only about pills and experimentation self-medication, but it's also the why and all the things behind why teens contribute self-medicating. the first place. so really keeping an open line of communication within household. we'll help to maintain that relationship

and really have a healthy relationship with your family. we trust funds to really convey that. that we as a society need to come together and change this because it is not just teenagers, but that's not just one group of people who are suffering from this epidemic. but as a society, we need to come together to embrace this teenage voice for change. and i think in general too collaborating with activist and artist together can be really effective way of making change in society. in our last 10 seconds here call, how can people watch the film screening? >> right now we have been doing, you know, screenings across the bay area in prison screenings. we did our last one of us of and i want to thank some sunscreen. if i do see why san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins, the city and county of san francisco's public, health department >> but if you visit our website for high dot com and has screening calendar we're also utilizing the streaming platform on our website streaming portal to be able to reach teenagers and school specifically throughout
