to 6 buildings catching fire in san jose. again, we have team coverage for you tonight. we've got it all covered. the latest on the corral fire got gayle ong live in the weather center. but first we have breaking news in san jose where we're learning 2 houses have been destroyed. kron four's jack moment is live. jack. >> yes, there. that's right. the fire captain for the san jose fire department tells me that the fire originally started and one of the garages in the homes you can see behind me now he said the high temperatures here in san jose along with the high speed winds made this fire extremely difficult to battle. >> dozens of fire crews out on quimby street east side, san jose sunday evening. i never seen this happen in my neighborhood. that johnson would have many neighbors who first saw the massive fire take over the homes of sand point road. i come out of the house and i saw. >> like a bunch of smoke in the air and then i started i started to hear like fireworks going off. it sounded like

fireworks like explosions. firefighters showed up around 4.30. they say it started in the garage quickly spread to 3 other houses. 2 of those will be livable. again. there was a lot of when when the fire broke out fire captain for san jose thomas los. as for such a large fire, his team responded fast. thankfully no one was injured. when you get a lot of equipment coming to a complex and dynamic and rapidly changing scene like this one. >> i think the challenge is the travel distance for some of the crews that are farther away. but, you know, it could be more tragic than >> and what it was. but neighbors like bismarck, tourists say this could have been real bad real quick. he lives next door and says he ran into one of the burning home to save a woman. but she was looking for for things. and i think that's his money to get you get. >> i thought there's a lot of smoke. so need to go out and it's about outside. down the chairs outside. he says the home was full of smoke.

>> but instinct just took over ice on the ship. people okay, get people out. and i just was in sight. >> if i'm able to do something, then i'm going do it. but, you know, the most important thing is that they got out safe. >> and again, no reported injuries at this massive fire here in east side. san jose. now the road i'm standing on most of the homes burned sand point road. the fire captain told me he can't even guarantee that this will be reopened by tomorrow as fire crews will work here to investigate the cause of the fire. overnight. sarah. >> thank you, jack. we'll look forward to report at 11 and now it's time to look at our weather with gayle ong. she is in the weather center. gayle, i know this weather has been very problematic for firefighters all weekend across the bay area. what's it looking like now? >> yeah, it has been all about the winds that we had a strong, a pressure gradient that cause a strong winds yesterday in the 30 to 40 miles per hour range today, not as strong. we saw winds in

the 30 miles per hour range san jose where jack is right now. winds have calmed down to the single digits reporting at 7 miles per hour. now livermore, however, you can see east of livermore where the crown fire is. notice this area of a pink and red that is reporting 30 miles per hour where the crossfire is so still pretty gusty. it has been gusty all day. altamont pass is reporting 32 miles per hour at this 10:00pm hour. so still pretty gusty. that's north of where the crown fire is. here's the future wind gusts. we are pretty breezy will remain breezy tonight, especially along the coast where readings are expected to be in the 20's and 30's in the east bay will be in the teens, but over by that east of livermore, you know where that hot spot is here. you can see still some strong gusts here in the 20 to 30 miles per hour range. so that will you know, pretty challenging for firefighters. but overall, the weather has been in their favor. we do have high relative humidity. but tomorrow, monday, notice we are breezy as well in 20's and our highest peaks along the

bay and the coast. and then in the teens throughout the day monday and then in the afternoon, that's usually when the sea breeze kicks up once again. so when i come back, the next weather headline will be the heat now because we do have a heat advisory starting tuesday through thursday. we could see temperatures back into triple digits close to the triple digits and even elevated fire risk. back to you. thank you, gayle. >> now to the latest on the crown fire in san joaquin county. fire crews haven't 50% contained. they've made some progress overnight. more than 14,000 acres burned near tracy since the fire started yesterday. we know that 2 firefighters got injured there at the hospital and we're told they're expected to make a full recovery and evacuation orders have been downgraded to evacuation warnings. so you should have your go bag ready. but residents are able to return to their homes. however, that fire did forced people from their homes overnight. and yesterday was very scary. one home was

destroyed and it injured 2 firefighters. kimberly cruz has the latest on the ground in joaquin county. >> intense flames. powerful winds. just some of the dangerous threats firefighters battled with the coral fire instead of slowing down there getting worse. so we knew that it was as a big fire and then that that it was close by as well fire exploding to over 14,000 acres by sunday afternoon this morning and throughout most of the day at the wind had calmed down. >> the relative humidity was higher. the temperature had dropped a little bit. so that created a much better situation for firefighters. hundreds of firefighters. hand in this fire fight. the r - fire did jump yesterday. so. >> and we did have some pretty serious fire conditions yesterday, but hopefully we're turning a corner. tracy

residents doing their part to help the owners of this property opening up their home for fire crews to rest and recharge. it's somewhat like a dream, right like be helping community and helping other people in tracy. and it is help fire not spread to any communities houses around. tracy crews aren't done yet. >> a spokesperson with cal fire tells fox 40 they will continue to be on scene overnight and into the next couple of days until this fire is 100% contained. you never really let your guard down and tell the fire perimeter is secure. >> and there's no smoke and the fires completely mopped up. the incident commander deems that that fire is considered out the larges boys in the area so far this year marking official start a wildfire season in northern california, at least the last few years we've seen more fire activity around july august, september, octeber, even

november, obviously. right now this is this is early. >> a boil water notice is in effect for some residents in the par country is states water system in san joaquin. that's an area near where the fire was burning. residents there are asked to use bottled water or boil their water before drinking or cooking. officials say the power outages near the fire have made the water unsafe. the problem should be solved in the next 5 to 7 days. and we also want to bring you an update on some road closures that were put in place due to the corral fire all lanes on i-580, are back open tonight. south hollow road in chrisman. road south of i-580, are still closed to non-residents. you are allowed back into your home if you live there. and happening burn permits will be suspended in alameda contra costa, santa clara and western san joaquin and stanislaus counties. cal fire posting the due to rising fire dangers. they're suspending burning of landscapes branches and

>> we continue to follow the latest from the corral fire near tracy and the fire in san jose that destroyed 2 homesh kron four's gayle ong joins us now with a look at tonight's winds and how they're affecting the fires and when the firefight, gayle. >> yeah, we were breezy once again today, not as strong as yesterday where we saw wind speeds in that 30 to 40 miles per hour range. so here is a san jose and you can see that fire burning southwest of tracy. the crown fire. now wind speeds have calmed down, but it is still gusting at 30 miles per hour near the altamonte just north of the crossfire. so take a look at current wind speeds in the single digits. now in livermore and san jose. but a lot higher. if you see shades of purple and red east of

livermore. so that does we are seeing the 30 miles per hour range. you can also see it here. a couple speeds here. so altamonte already seeing 32 at this 10:00pm hour. 22 at are that is south of brushy pick reserve in livermore livermore in the valley floors in the single digits. so we will be breezy through the night. you can see readings in the 20's and 30's in the higher elevation. now the east bay will back off in the teens for a little bit. but overall, we will be breezy. we have this system coming from the gulf of alaska and that is going to cool us down. bring us this onshore flow. so this isn't the offshore diablo winds that we do worry about come fire season, which it's, you know, we are already seeing these fires pop up. so this is a 10:00pm monday. it looks like we will see those winds diminish in the east bay. so fire weather model not showing a lot of risk compared to yesterday. we did see some elevated fire risk east of pleasanton near where the crossfire is. and that is due to the relative humidity being high. so the fuels are not critically dry, but we will be

warming up com later this week. so starting tuesday that we are going to see a heat spike. so stormtracker 4, you know, it's going to show some clouds overnight and into the morning. this is a system that will be cooling us down from the pacific northwest. you can see the future cast model clouds overnight into the morning. overcast morning for monday. even partly cloudy skies monday afternoon. but we do have this heat advisory starting tuesday through turn thursday. so enjoy the cooler temperatures now because it's, you know, today and tomorrow we have that nice. nacho ac. but this is going to change drastically. we could see temperatures in the 90's inland and up close to triple digit heat come wednesday said tuesday, wednesday, look like the warmest days inland. thank you, gayle. no problem. and fire crews are making good progress in containing the crawl fired is now 50% contained so far more than 14,000 acres have burned near tracy since the fire started yesterday. people are allowed back into their homes tonight. >> rowena shaddox reports after speaking with people forced to evacuate yesterday.

>> it was pretty scary. >> the corral fire fueled by 30 mile an hour. high winds and lots of dry brush ravaged thousands of acres after igniting around 2 yesterday afternoon in the coral hollow area. it burned 2500 acres overnight and by midday today, it destroyed more than 12,500 acres. >> well, for now, the structure to my left is the only home that was destroyed in this fire. a deputy tells me he was searching through the rubble this morning, but fortunately they got word that an elderly couple in their 80's owns the home and they are with family safe in manatee. kent. >> more than 400 firefighters

worked tirelessly to stop the forward movement of flames, saving dozens of homes, including this one on a hill now surrounded by scorched and blackened brush. >> live right over there. the it backs up to right here. 6 greater delainey with play and her family evacuated from their home in the same neighborhood off south chrisman road. and we're hopeful to get back by this afternoon. we had to get all those forced out because it was not safe for them. longtime residents, fred in caroline gallon evacuated from their home as well. and we're just waiting to go back home. >> a little scary because it was last night. and i mean, we left home without anything i never thought for a minute that that fire at bar would get that close our homes for >> san jose police are investigating a possible homicide at 17th and east santa clara street today. police say they got the call a little after 11 when they arrived, the victim was dead. it's being investigated as the city's 16th homicide this

year. and suv plowed into the sunday farmers market in walnut creek, injuring 2 people. police say the driver then took off. officers responded to the hit and run after 5 this morning on locust street nicole avenue. 2 people were taken to the hospital with major injuries. police say the driver of the suv was found shortly after video shows police doing field sobriety tests on a man wearing a security guard uniform. police say they arrested a man but would not confirm any more details about the driver, the farmers market meanwhile, got canceled as officers spent the day investigating. >> and take a look at this. noisy very of noxious. they're a sideshow. shutting down the intersection of van ness and pine street in san francisco. overnight when police arrived, they got immediately swarmed by people. some seeing even jumping on the hood of the police car. video shows people

backing away after the police officer stepped out of the car. police drove through the crowd and into the intersection trying to break up the sideshow. we reached out to san francisco to police to see if there were any arrests or any cars towed. but we have not heard back yet. and developing news in southern california, officials in del mar close to beach this morning after a shark attacked a swimmer. >> a 46 year-old man was bit shortly before 9 about 100 yards offshore. he was taken to hospital with injuries to his torso, left arm and hand. he's expected to be ok, the shark attack left people on the beach, though, very worried. >> we just saw, but just so much like likes normally swimming. and then we saw that they were in clump together and then they were like helping him like trying like, like get him back to shore. i we saw like boats and everything like. >> it was just like a lot chaos. >> shortly after the attack, lifeguards were seen posting warning signs on the beach which is protocol. this attack

comes one week after a surfer was bumped off his board by a shark 40 miles north of del mar in san clemente. one of the most scenic properties in big sur will soon be available for all of us to enjoy the california coastal commission has reached an agreement to open to the public rocky point to 2 and a half acre seaside lot owned by monaco. billionaire is located along highway one about 10 miles south of carmel in exchange violations related to an approved construction and property changes made by the previous owners will be dropped. the agreement is expected to be formally approved during a final vote by the coastal commission on june 14th in the south bay, san jose made festival returns this weekend. organizers say over 25,000 people attended the event at history park. the festival highlights over 250 local artists makers and small businesses over 50 food trucks in desert vendors were also part of the festival. >> with more than 12 k-pop dance groups performing.

>> welcome back. we continue to cover the fire in east san jose where several buildings have been damaged from a fire as well as to destroy. that's where we find kron four's jack molmud. jack, are you there with us? >> yes, sara, i don't know if you can hear me right now, but i'm standing here on the road where the fire was the saturn. san jose fire captain did tell me about. they first responded around 4.30, to a fire happening in the garage of one of the homes you can see here behind me. the captain then told me the highest rate of wind speeds here along with the rising temperatures here in san jose made this fire extremely difficult to deal with. well, what i can tell

you about this fire is that it started around for 30, like i said a little bit earlier, crews responded about dozens of they said that the fire spread to a 4 homes in total, 2 of which are an absolute total loss. another one of them is still being assessed. another home only slightly damaged that we got here a little bit later in the afternoon. kind of missed some of the big flames that neighbors described. they said that some of the flames are 20 to 30 feet tall. it was quite the sight to see. what does the neighbors standing outside trying just to see what's going on. of course, the cause of this fire. it's still very much under investigation. i did have a chance to speak to a neighbor, though. he told me that he actually ran into one of the burning homes to save a woman he says was living there inside. he said about that home was there was an elderly couple living there. the woman

couldn't make it out. she wanted to grab belongings. he said we've got to go. the smoke was just too much to take. he said it was all very hectic, but he's just glad that he was able to get her out of the way and into safety. now, the captain told me that there were no injuries here, but that people will be here trying to investigate cause of the fire throughout the rest of the evening. sarah. >> jack, thank you so much. definitely a scary situation. and we look forward to your next report. now, the other big story we're following is the crown fire burning near tracy. this is video into our newsroom from a pilot as he flew over the fire heading from sfo last night. firefighters saying strong winds and dry grass made it hard to contain the fire. last night. it was truly a battle, but it seems the wind died down a bit today as firefighters have contained to 50% kron four's gayle ong is here with us in the weather center with the details. gayle, what are they up against now? i mean, seems to be improving. >> yes, more favorable weather conditions for firefighters

today. we didn't see the winds as strong yesterday was in the 30 to 40 miles per hour range. you can see quite calm around the bay area, especially in the east bay. i'll point out livermore down to the single digits at 9 miles per hour. but east of livermore, you know, the higher elevation by the altamonte. it was gusting at 30 miles per hour. so still some wind gusts near the carmel fire. san jose, 7 miles per hour right now are jack is he's reporting on that fire. and san jose was dealing with wind speeds and that 20 miles per hour range. so it was a breezy day we can expect another breezy day tomorrow. now, yesterday we were particularly in between a strong a pressure gradient between sfo in sacramento. and what that does is cause some really strong ferocious wind. so that's what yesterday in particular, we saw some strongest, but we will remain breezy tomorrow as you can see readings as they take you through monday. this is 07:30am. you can see readings are in the 20's, even higher in the peaks like calistoga atlas. speaking to 25 miles

per hour range monday morning. in the late morning, it looks like we'll still be in the 20's and teens around the region 20 miles per hour over in livermore on monday around 4.30. so that's that afternoon kick and the winds, it's usually that onshore flow that comes from that cool ocean air. we'll be cooling things down, though. won't be hot. and this is why, as i zoom out, you could see this system in the pacific northwest. that's going to drop. and we're going go into clip northern california. so you could even see some drizzle over in the north coastal parts of, you know. but i can show you what this future cast model sees spots of green. there may be monday morning during your morning drive. there. but overall, an overcast day for monday morning. and then we could see some clearing in the afternoon, but partly cloudy skies. here are the temperatures right now. statewide were low around the coast, warm inland in the 80's. but things are about to change come tuesday into thursday. we could see we are going to see a heat advisory for tear your valleys and hills. daytime highs tomorrow

i-580 62 connector in pleasanton. and now to national news. police in akron, ohio, are searching for information about a mass shooting that left one man dead and 24 others injured. it happened after midnight outside a house where about 100 people were gathered outside for a birthday party officers recovered 2 firearms and several dozen shell casings from the scene. but they still don't have any suspects. don't know the motive. so a lot more to learn there. >> based on the layout of the spent shell casing, it appears consistent with someone driving by shooting out of a car. we believe that some individuals a party may have returned fire based on physical evidence at the scene. we have concerns about the possibility of her talent, retaliation. taking steps prevent that. we need the community's help. >> 2 people remain in critical
