>>i look at current winds. the direction is good. they're least on all onshore. 28 coming from san francisco and inland. you can see pretty much single digits to some early double digits as well. meanwhile, the success of heat notice the santa clara valley. you're now in this heat advisory as well. nudging up to some inland spots of the peninsula. north bay, you're in this to, of course, and for solano county. the excessive heat warning. this will be until thursday night midnight before friday. look at current temperatures. they have improved 93 going on for brightwood. lot of 80's. you can see inland still fairfield 96. 95 vacaville with a lot 80's. meanwhile, up north, 75 fairfax and san francisco's coming in at 72. but the quick comparison for you, even though those are improved numbers, it's still well above where we were. 24 hours ago bite not away double digits, but the on 20, as you can see, wrapping around from off to tri valley for tonight. yes, relief will see a lot of 50's here. but looks like down in

san jose only about 64 warm and clear with all of that ultimate lows will see about 72 going on for antioch and the mixed bag of some 50's and 60's. still going to be hot for tomorrow as we talked about and even into thursday. have a look at that longer range forecast for you a bit. a bit of a warning for those on planning to head to the beach to cool off this week. a large waves expected along the coast starting wednesday morning. the national weather service warns we could see waves as high as 20 feet. the beach hazard warning is in effect until thursday night. officials say to never turn your back to the ocean and always keep an eye on your kids and your pets. the crown fire is 92% contained since saturday. it's burned more than 14,000 acres in san joaquin county. 2 firefighters were injured while fighting those flames. they have been taken to the hospital, but they were expected to be okay. cal fire's hoping for full containment at some point this week and close by alameda

temperatures near triple digits in napa tuesday. kron 4 theresa caught up with some soaked up the sun while others opted for the shade.

>>aaron apple, i'm standing in the shade and it's 90 degrees here across the street in the sun even hotter. i talked with residents about how they're trying to stay cool. and we also got some tips from an emergency room. doctor beating the heat. that was name of the game tuesday in napa is the son board down residents buckle down on taking measures to stay safe. >>take a walk to stay in shade. yeah. we like to take a little break. yeah. back into the air conditioning. yes, for sure. these 2 napa county workers took advantage of the shaded section of the sidewalk to steer clear of the sun's harmful rays. we like to stay hydrated and also. >>you know, we are seeing a bigger heat extremes. and so keeping an eye on the weather and the weather forecast so that you're prepared. that is kaiser permanente. emergency room physician sunday. >>that he adds that these tips, our good as well, such wear sunscreen really about reading the labels, certain

experience, some of the hottest temperatures tuesday kron four's rob nesbitt has more on how people are beating the heat. >>it's been about 90 degrees all throughout the day here in moraga. and that's why i came to the ace hardware store behind me to see if customers making purchases to keep them cool. the son did not let up tuesday. combine that with the high temperatures expected this week and the moraga ace hardware stayed busy customers like matt warning checking in to see what air conditioners and fans are in stock. he says the biggest struggle is adjusting to the temperature changes. you're not acclimated to it. it's i mean, it was 75 yesterday and it's over 90 today. and so it's that 15, 20 degree overnight. that makes it tough by think. >>generally, you kind of get acclimated to it. but when you have these wild swings day today, that makes it tough. still plenty of fans and air conditioners in stock at the hardware store, according general manager susan marconi. she make sure to not just sell products, but also gives out free advice when temperatures go up, making sure they're staying hydrated and keeping the air moving in circulating.

>>not opening your blinds in your windows in the morning if you can cool off at night because we're lucky that in the evening it does cool off here. >>she always checks up on elderly customers to make sure they are staying cool. a big concern for markley this summer as people avoiding running air conditioners because of high electricity bills hoping they are taking the risk of overheating because of a budget. this air conditioner can be set at. >>75 instead of 70. so it's not going to run as often. if you are sitting in a room that you can in close even better to keep that room nice. intemperate marconi recommends using a portable air conditioner as far as the easiest to use and move around. she also gave a diy option. she says if you run a fan over the top of a bowl of ice, it will help circulate cold air in a room without an air conditioner. >>raga. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >>fire crews remain on scene of monday's devastating a 2 alarm fire that destroyed a complex that was under construction in unincorporated redwood city. the fire burned

within 25 feet of homes, but none were destroyed. tuesday morning. the last of the 100 evacuees return to their homes as the cleanup on the site continues. kron four's dan kerman reports. >>there were some of the last ones out doing a lot better today. grateful that the fire department was able to contain it over there. >>keep it away from the homes. james smith is talking about monday's massive fire that destroyed an affordable housing complex under construction in unincorporated redwood city and forced the evacuation of he and his neighbors because the backs of their homes along pacific avenue or just 25 feet away from the fire scene tuesday. he and other evacuees were allowed to return home and while still standing, there is some damage back window blew back fence area. it's all the backyard. all that's just muddy and dancing star. >>i lost shingles on the roof. got some amber damage on the roof as well. he got all this debris that we sweep doubt this and then furnishings

insider just smoke >>construction crews spent much of the day tuesday tearing down more of the scaffolding that burned up when this 109 unit affordable housing complex went up in flames. firefighters are still looking for a cause. we have to interview and find out about all the different processes and how that takes place. see what other works are going on. >>and from there that allows us to look into all the different potential causes and make determinations firefighters were able to save an adjacent building, which is also slated for affordable housing. but county officials say it remains a big loss. this is the affordable housing development here in what's called north fairoaks, which has about a population of 20,000. it's on incorporated. and so it's a huge blow, especially this project up to 3 bedroom units, which means families could move and

controversy hits a california high school over a year, but that's usually treasured by students. gene kang has the story. >>there's just so much with in this. that is incorrect. kayla's shows us the palos verdes high school year book which contains the article whose land is it anyway, which was written by a student and approved by a critics say it is problematic and contains misinformation waving against israel for the atrocities of october 7 reading. >>things such as the jewish problem or original sin. that just term analogy it's heartbreaking to see people who are in my school genuinely think and believe these things. they and that it has raised safety issues. other jewish students at the school. >>and the jewish community in the south bay area, students, parents and local congregation members have been meeting with school district officials. but so far their demands haven't been when i saw this article,

♪♪ the caldecott tunnel caused a major traffic backup tuesday kron. 4 charles clifford has more. >>well, here in the east bay, a car fire in the second board. the caldecott tunnel caused a backup that extended for miles and lasted for hours. this is video of the scene sent in to kron 4, according to the california highway patrol just before 10 tuesday morning, there were rports of a truck on fire about halfway through the eastbound second bore of the caldecott tunnel. 40 cars were trapped behind the fire with black smoke coming out of the

tunnel. the oakland fire department, the california highway patrol responded to the scene within minutes around 10 11. the second door was closed and eastbound traffic was diverted into the first 4 caltrans activated blower fans inside the tunnel to push out the smoke. 75 to 100 people who have been stuck behind the burning truck, walked out of the tunnel on foot. firefighters were able to reach the fire by crossing over from bor want to bore 2. they've been extinguished the fire quickly. it took several hours to remove the cars left behind and clean up the burned truck. the highway patrol says the exact cause of the fire still under investigation. all the witnesses have said they saw sparks coming from underneath the truck before it caught fire. the tunnel was reopened around 12 45 tuesday afternoon

president biden announced new executive actions on immigration to help secure our southern border by tightening the asylum access. the president says republicans left him no choice. kimberly chang has details and reaction from our sister station in los angeles. >>i just will reportedly take effect at midnight. president biden signed a proclamation earlier this morning and said this action will help, quote, gain control at the border. under this executive order, there will be significant restrictions for migrants seeking asylum when the southern border is overwhelmed. >>today i'm announcing actions to bar migrants who cross our southern border unlawfully from receiving a silent. meyers will be restricted from receiving asylum out. are

southern border unless they seek in after entering through and establish lawful process. president joe biden's executive order will go into effect when the number of border encounters between ports of entry hits 2500 per day. >>according to senior administration officials, the restrictions would be in effect until the daily encounter numbers are at 1500 per day or lower between ports of entry under a seven-day average, biden accused former president donald trump and top republicans of undermining bipartisan legislation that would have better address the issue. he said the republicans left him no choice but to take his own action to address the border. trump said on social media that biden has totally surrendered our southern border. congressional republicans called the order nothing more than a political stunt meant to show toughened immigration enforcement ahead of the election. it's window dressing. everybody knows if he will. if he was concerned about the border, he would have done this a long time ago. >>and we don't know what's in this. the devil will definitely be in the details here. i can assure you democratic u.s. senator alex padilla said the order would

correspondent jessi tenure reports. >>khalidi human eyes. yes, republicans wanted to flip the script of a senate hearing tuesday, accusing democrats of playing politics with reproductive rights. at what point my democratic colleagues believe child deserves to live. we can do better as a country. senators markwayne mullin and bill cassidy support state restrictions on abortion as do some doctors. there's been a lot of false information being spread. that laws limiting abortion will prevent these lifesaving treatments. but honestly, this is absurd. but other doctors at the hearing pushed back arguing restrictions don't just forced patients to travel out of state but forced providers to question whether to i have had thoughts about leaving even though i love my home and my community doctor niche says she faces threats of criminal prosecution. if she violates georgia's six-week abortion ban. >>and medical students are

the caldecott tunnel caused a major traffic backup tuesday kron. 4 charles clifford has more. >>well, here in the east bay, a car fire in the second bore of the caldecott tunnel caused a backup that extended for miles and lasted for hours. this is video of the scene center in the kron 4, according to the california highway patrol just before 10 tesday morning, there were reports of a truck on fire about halfway through the eastbound second bore of the caldecott tunnel. 40 cars were trapped behind the fire with black smoke coming out of the tunnel. the oakland fire department, the california highway patrol responded to the scene within minutes around 10 11. the second door was closed and eastbound traffic was diverted into the first 4 caltrans activated blower fans inside the tunnel to push out the smoke. 75 to 100 people who have been stuck behind the burning truck, walked out of the tunnel on foot. firefighters were able
