here, we're told this is 60 acres and they have it 50% contained. we also know that. >> they have a 5 firefighters that have >> been getting some treatment. we don't know what exactly it they're injured of heat exhaustion. 2 of them at the hospital, 3 being treated here at the fire. we crews continuing to show up because they have a lot of different agencies out here. 16 engines, 2 dozers. they have hand crews on the ground. they have not only 2 helicopters that are dropping water, but they also had the planes using the era tax here's what trump's the retardant down below. and some of the ground you can see has the red from the retardant. and then you can see that scorched land. a lot of smoldering land. i'm sure they will be spending the next 24 hours. plus. >> putting out hot spots. but the challenge out here is not the wind. the wind is actually been in their favor, but the
6:31 pm
heat, it is extremely hot out here. it's in the 90's and also they're up against flame. so you can only imagine how hot it is on the ground for the e fire crews. take a listen to firefighters. explain the challenges. >> so it's tough conditions work. and we've also for a lot of firefighters here. this is your second fire. today. we had a commercial structure fire in the city of but these crews have been so but that goes into a lot of our preparations. it's a physical nature of this job and they train really hard for that. you work in these conditions when you have the heat advisories like we worked through yesterday today can continue until tomorrow you get the fuels that are very receptive to mission and to fire spread. >> and this fire is about 7 miles north of saint and we're told that this fire started on private property that actually. and in the glass fire. so while there was an
6:32 pm
evacuation warning, people were not forced to evacuate. it was there choice. we did speak with one person who said that they evacuated because the 've already gone through the glass fire and they're not risking anything. so it's been people's choice. but, you know, sometimes better safe than sorry. we saw. >> and the glass fire quickly things can change on a dime but thankfully, with this fire, it seems like they really got a hold of it quickly. 50 1% contained at last check. we are about to go speak with cal fire to get update from them. continue to follow the latest with this fire right here on kron. 4 will have a report at 8 o'clock. 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock. and as always on kron, 4 dot com. back to you guys in studio. all right, we will check back with you and good. >> good news. this one. they made progress pretty quickly. despite the heat challenge as we take a live look outside here. >> at 6.30, to the camera on top of mount tamalpais us he would never know. but it's
6:33 pm
such a scorcher by looking at that picture, although no fog. so that's an indicator this time of year. it is hot, though, out kathy trafton here to talk about whether we've gotten like spread about 30 degrees, right? it's really remarkable. some areas in the 50's at the coastline. >> pushing over toward 100 and then some and some of the warmest inland spots. it's this time of year. but at least the winds are cooperating. it could be a lot worse. they're not coming out of the east or not. the hot dry winds that sometimes happen that could fuel these fires. i think this graphic is very interesting. i think you if find interesting because you think about the moderating influence of the ocean, this image shows you current temperatures along our coastline. look at that 50's and 60's. whether you're new re cut. 59 monterey, 64 santa's san diego's 64 degrees. moderate. then you go inland inland as warm right now at this hour, las vegas, 107 100 degrees, fresno, 99, bakersfield 103 in sacramento.
6:34 pm
so the ocean really can cool things off, but you'll notice with those magenta colors were for the very hot temperatures inland that pretty much mirrors. the heat warnings across the state where you see that magenta moving all the way from the inland areas up to our central valley. and then for our area, mainly heat advisories in the north bay where they're fighting the battle of the crystal fire. heat advisories continue through thursday and also into the east bay, the south bay. but you'll notice along our coastline and along peninsula, there's no heat advisory. it also is really quite an lpinteresting discrepancy in temperatures. look at this. san francisco. 64, concord, 99, half moon bay. 59. so there you have it along our coastline. we have a beach hazard statement for dangerous surf and for sneaker waves. so if you try to escape the heat by going to the ocean, watch out because we have some big waves. definitely don't want to turn your back on the ocean. thank you, kathy in
