>> now across 4 news at 6, 100's of donald trump supporters said showed up to rally in san francisco as they wait for the former president to arrive for live there with the latest. >> and oakland mayor sheng thao respond after the group behind a recall effort against submits recall petition. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> good evening, everybody. i'm vicki liviakis and i'm grant lotus. hundreds of people gathered late today in san francisco to support former president trump. he said to be in the city this evening. >> for a fundraiser, our kron four's rob nesbitt live for us at marina green, where trump supporters were waiting for his we hear the crowds have thinned out a little bit. rob.

>> they think that a lot, vicki, they're all gone actually on the only one, pretty much the most part, other than a few stragglers here in the park. when the event started around 11, 15, there were only 8 people that i counted in the parking lot with with trump flags. it grew to about a few 100 people here. some video of what it looked like at its peak when they were here showing their support. they were standing along the road next to the marina green, where cars were honking as they drove notice one counter protester with a sign that read trump is a pathological liar across the street from the trump supporters. those supporters standing in a bike path and i heard some bikers, anti trump expletive says they buy buy. >> ask the people that were here. what's important to them? this election? they meant to be upset with trump's conviction on 34 felony counts as well as things like border security and inflation. they're also trump supporters who happened to be in the marina green today. but we're not thrilled to see the rally happening. jason zang helped organize the event and says it's trump's success story

that appeals to him most. >> probably around 500 people were going and then out and most were coming from different cities across the various we show there's republicans support not just san francisco, but all the san francisco bay. when i see this, it's not well organized. i but it's not park a van with the speaker top and everybody's trying you know, have some. >> most of the trump supporters who were here said that they did not plan on attending of the fundraising event because it allegedly cost 6 digits just to get in. some of them did say that they plan on going to the neighborhood impact heights where it's happening just to try to get a glimpse of trump as he's on his way to his fundraiser. and according to reuters, that fundraising event is going to pat be happening at the home of tech billionaire david reporting live at the marina green. i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news robb. no kidding. what an

hour. you know, difference makes because >> they have abandoned that location. even emerge behind. >> it's then down olmert here. no, no flags or anything left. it looks like the clean up after even happened problems but live for us along marina green. thank you, rob. thanks, rob. >> oakland, mayor sheng thao defending her record after the group looking to recall her says that it has enough signatures to force a recall election standing up for herself. this group, it's known as oakland united to recall sheng thao. they say they blame the mayor for firing a popular police chief losing the oakland a's and having a surge in crime. they say town needs to be removed from her position as soon as possible. but the mayor says the city is headed in the right direction. no matter what. you know, naysayers say or, you folks who are trying to recall >> you know, i think at the

end of the day we were able to reduce crime by 33% overall crime across the board, right? we're doing what we know. make sense. we're do. we're making progress. oakland is turning a corner in lists. reminded many of these issues that started way before my tenure. and so within that short one and a half year that we've been in office, we've done so much already in west oakland, in east oakland. and so i know that we're stronger together and i floor everybody that we should work together to ensure that we have a better and say for oakland for all. >> the signatures that have been gathered still need to be verified and backers of the recall are hoping to have the elections scheduled for november. if town is recalled, a special election would need to be scheduled to pick her replacement. the california supreme court ruling will allow the university of california to build new s-udent housing. >> at the uc berkeley's historic people's park, the high court says that a new law enacted in 2021 invalidates claims by 2 local

organizations that sued the school saying that more students living in downtown berkeley would add noise pollution to an already dense area. kron four's gayle ong joins us now live from the newsroom with reaction, yes, becky, this decision capping a years long legal fight over the landmark. >> opponents of this ruling say they plan to add more pressure on the university and continue to have their voices heard. >> it's disappointing. >> i'm a neighbor and a mother. my kid has grown whitney sparks not surprise at the state supreme court's decision to allow uc berkeley to start construction on a student housing project at people's park. the project set off years of protest over the landmark people's park is now surrounded by stacks of shipping containers blocking the view of the park and security guards at every corner. something else, opponents of this project do not want to. we'll be continuing to get that removed for guard list of this uling. and even if they want to build

construction, they still don't need to have this shipping container all around. in a statement uc berkeley road, it is pleased with thursday's decision adding, quote. >> the campus is turning its attention to the timeline for resuming construction. we are grateful for the strong and ongoing support this project has received. the campus is committed to addressing the high cost and low supply of housing close to campus. that undermines students ability to thrive. succeed and fully partake in all that the university has to offer the high court on thursday has ruled that a new law enacted last year invalidates the claims by 2 local organizations that sued the school saying more students living in downtown berkeley would add noise pollution to an already dense area. the court noted that berkeley provides housing to the lowest percentage of students compared to other schools in the uc system. uc berkeley plans to build a 312 million dollar housing complex for about 1100 of its students. the park was founded in 1969. as part of the air is free speech and civil rights

right for the golden gate. okay. can really come use temperatures, you know, really be affected by clouds and the fog. you betcha right now we are 19 degrees cooler at this hour in napa compared to yesterday at this hour, 17 degrees cooler fairfield, 16 degrees. cooler nevado 12 degrees cooler in santa fe. it is cool or everywhere, including san francisco down 11 degrees. so where do we stand right now? well, places such as brentwood, where they don't really feel the moderating influence of the pacific ocean, 101 degrees fairfield, 82 vacaville 96. but napa, only 66 96 kelsey bill and 57 degrees in point rays. we've got the heat. that's right. in the central valley and cool along the coastline. i've got the full weather forecast coming up. all right. sounds good. thank you, kathy. now to the latest on a few wildfires. we've been covering the crystal fire in

napa. county of 75% contained. >> after burning 60 acres, the fire started yesterday afternoon north of saint helene, a near the intersection of crystal springs road and silverado trail 4 firefighters were hospitalized for injuries crews say are related to the hot and rocky conditions. building was also destroyed in that fire. and the corral fire in san joaquin county east of livermore near tracy is 98% contained after burning through more than 14,000 acres. this one started saturday near the lawrence livermore. national laboratory. it did not threaten the labs facilities because flames spread away from it, which is good. no word tonight on what caused the fires. the fires have crews really on their heels and concerned about the potential for a bad fire season. kron four's terisa stasio has that story. take a look. this is new drone video from the chris to fire broke out wednesday along crystal springs road in saint alina.

>> you can see yourself the charred hillside and how close it came to a home in the area. it's the summer is here. >> there grasses are the most receptive to you know, we have a slogan. one less spark, one less wildfire. that's cal fire division chief in incident commander mike wink. >> he spoke to me while at the crystal fire on wednesday. that fire broke out on crystal springs road near silverado trail in saint alina with the swift aaron ground attack. the fire's progress was blunted. now crews are doing mop up duty to prevent hot spots from taking off wanting a uninhabited small out building was destroyed by the fire. >> the other homes that were threatened by the fire had good defensible space. there are hard there are fire resistant in construction materials. >> the folks had done what they can do to help just a few days ago, the corral fire erupted near tracy. it is mostly under control now,

chief weeks as both were grass fires, which can turn dangerous quickly, really, too soon to say, you know, we have a lot of technology that we use to monitor fuel moistures in the larger fields, the grass being the most receptive to drying out. hearing the brush models that we monitor regularly and and look for that feel moisture in the ground and in the fuels themselves. the brush feel models are still showing that they're still leveling out there, you know, peaking and going back down towards critical yet. >> the chief says as crews actively monitor brush moisture content throughout the state, he says it is vital residents be wildfire ready to go now that summer and the heat are here. >> you know, we encourage folks to go to ready for wildfire dot org and look at all those things that you just talked about. your defensible space also have a plan, have a plan. what you're going to do

>> well, missteps and confusion have played the oakland a's since announcing their move to vegas and a vivid. before that, really now there's another controversy over just how many home games the a's will play in that new yet to be built yet to be financed. ballpark kron four's dan kerman joins us live in the newsroom with the latest on this debacle. good evening, that's right. you know, some are hoping this debacle, as you call it is a's trying to get out of this vegas deal. not so says baseball insiders. they say instead it's just the a's continuing to do things and say things that make even simple things more complicated. this is actually extremely normal. what is shocking me is again, how clumsy all this scenes in public, former miami marlins

president david samson is talking about the latest controversy. >> surrounding the a's new stadium in las vegas. its lease agreement, the a's to propose playing a number of home games outside of vegas. it's totally normal to have that in a lease agreement or in a non relocation agreement. but sampson says these created a mountain out of a molehill by requesting as many as 7 home games outside of vegas. one for is more appropriate. he also called out the a's president. dave carroll for telling a nevada newspaper playing home games elsewhere helps build the team's brand and attract players. it is beyond comprehension how he responded to this. i i really can't figure out what the business strategy is. what the pr strategy when this provision came up. >> all you have to do is be honest and say, of course, oakland, vegas, as one of 30 teams has to be available to play games internationally. so we have to work that into the

least period. and that's literally would be the end of the discussion here taken games away. >> from your public and you haven't even played there yet. i don't know what the logic is. former a's executive andy dolan says whatever the intent the a's have made a bad pr move, especially when it comes to attracting new fans in las vegas. what people are reading those that might not be big. baseball fans are taking money away from us. >> importantly, you're taking games away from us. don't you want us to support your team? do you want us to become engaged in all of your activities? but you're going someplace else. >> the a's have already announced once the lease expires in oakland this year, they'll play at this minor league ballpark in sacramento until their new vegas stadium is built. some of suggested the home games controversy is a way to take the biggest deal. but the a's denied that. and baseball insiders say that's unlikely. here's how you take the deal. you don't do the deal. it's not as

>> other news tonight, the man who police say plowed an suv into vendors, setting up for a farmers market. walnut creek has been charged. authorities say that to jose manuel chavez is facing 2 felony counts of dui, causing injury. the crash happened early sunday morning on locust street in walnut creek. 2 women were critically injured. the charges chavez is facing included hammond enhancements because of the victims injuries. chavez was arraigned in court today. he's now behind bars in richmond. a big no for solano county's so-called city of the future. a prominent nonprofit is formally opposing the east solano county plan. >> and it's a billionaire back to ballot measure, which if approved would allow urban development on land currently designed for agriculture kron four's philippe djegal explains. >> the non-profit solano land trust says voters should vote no on november ballot measure

that would approve the billionaire back development called the east solano plan sponsored by the group, california forever. the project is a proposed new town near the travis air force base that could accommodate up to 400,000 new people. at the end of the day, it's the development of this magnitude is just not good for >> our agricultural economy. it's our second largest, largest economy in solano county or the habitat or the slide county and the salon. a land trust says the proposed development has been pushed ahead with misleading messaging. >> adding that the area in question is not a wasteland or landscape of no value. we can have houses and economic development and we don't have to do it at the detriment of our farm economy, of of helping natural environment and that we can still have open spaces for our community to get outside and enjoy it. in a statement to kron 4, california forever says in part, quote. >> we are proposing a compact sustainable community where

mountain lion spotted this one in san jose and this time near kelly park. the city sending out an just about an hour ago. this comes after a big cat was spotted roaming around la drive and war. admiral way about 9 o'clock last night. the animal was also spotted relaxing on the sidewalk before making its way through people's yards. officials say that if you happen to come across a big cat, do remember to stay calm, don't run. stand your ground, maintain eye contact and then try to appear as big as possible. they also advise that you call police immediately >> still ahead on kron, 4 news at 6, the first humans to contract to bird flu has died. we've details surrounding that case. also, this is fascinating. alameda city council members have put a stop to an effort by scientists to try to write up clouds in order to stop global warming. that decision is now making national headlines. we'll dig into that. and kron
