decades. it and to finally have this one that centers black culture. is pretty special. >> now at 11, the month of june is filled with celebrations across the bay area this weekend, juneteenth and pride festivities on hand from the east bay to san francisco. thanks for joining us here in cannes for news 11. i'm noelle bellow and i'm dan thorn tomorrow. san francisco is going to be hosting its juneteenth parade and festival. >> the parade begins at 11:00am on market and spear and it will travel down market to 8 street. and if you're in the city, uni is warning that they're going to be several road closures. here's a look at those road closures. these will begin saturday morning and the last well into the afternoon. muni also alerting riders. there's going to be several routes that are impacted as well. that parade commemorates the emancipation of enslaved black americans. the san francisco human rights commission chairs the importance >> of this weekend's celebration.

>> thousands of people registered for the festival and we hope that they come early and watch the community members, the the pageant winners little miss and mister juneteenth that they get to see the cars that they go and join the block parties. but we've seen tremendous growth from last year to this year. and you consider the how many other parades the city has that have been happening for decades. and to finally have this one that centers black culture. is pretty special. the real struggle, i think to some degree is people who may say, well, everybody, all the black people left san francisco. why would you do this parade here? and i think that's even more reason to do it is to say that we are committed to whether it's 1 1000 or 100,000 that we are committed to addressing the disparities and some of the harm that's continued to be done, where people have felt unwelcome here. and so doing this parade for me says we want folks to realize that they're welcome here.

>> after the parade festival is planned for noon at civic center plaza until 06:00pm more than 10,000 people are expected to be there. >> and contra costa county, a joint juneteenth and pride event will take place sunday. the city of pinole is hosting its second annual pride and juneteenth celebration from noon to 03:00pm at fernandez park. it was started last year by then mayor devin murphy, the current council member was the first black openly and youngest mayor in panels 120 year history. he says this weekend's celebration is about community empowerment and recognizing the historic significance of both juneteenth and pride. live music performances, kids, activities and are going to be afternoon. and then in san mateo. >> tomorrow they'll be hosting their 12th annual pride celebration. the pre aid that parade begins at 10:30am, in the morning at second and b streets. it will and its central park and 5th avenue in the sand detail around 11 and

we have a list of juneteenth celebrations in the bay area on our website to scan that qr code right there. it will take you directly to the june teen section of kron 4 dot com. >> we want to know what the weather is going to be like for all of these events this weekend. kathy trafton is here with details like happy. change in the weather. of course, after the hot temperatures this week, forget about it. no longer a concern, not for us. not this weekend. instead we have beautiful conditions. we have clouds. we have fog, some haze. it's just welcome change. and lot of that is courtesy of the seabreeze kicking in. we've got the ocean breezes coming in to cool whole bay area and they're not terribly gusty at this point and diminish a little bit only to strengthen again tomorrow night. so late tomorrow night. 24 miles per hour. winds through the golden gate. 36 mile per hour winds in sandra fell and 11 miles per hour. winds at atlas peak.

that's the area of high pressure that is left it's moved off to the east. leaving us low pressure for a little bit until the next high. he was up to pay us a visit. so come early next week. we'll start to see those warmer temperatures. but for now, it's all about low pressure that's in the gulf of alaska that is helping bring in the sea breezes and the cooling fog. and i've got the 7 day forecast coming up in just a bit. thank you, kathy and the east bay. it is the final weekend for horse racing at the historic golden gate fields. the track is the last of its kind in the bay area >> it's faced scrutiny for repeated deaths up horses over the last several years. kron four's lezla gooden reports. >> golden gate fields will open their gates for its final time on sunday. the track is holding races throughout the weekend. on friday, some fans came to experience the track. >> for the nostalgia, i heard it i got buddy. need store

over here. >> historical track holds memories and family ties for some like samantha fay, a local horse advocate. her grandfather was a mayor of albany when the track first opened in 1941. yeah. when my great grandfather opened golden gate fields in the 1940's, he would also preside over the winner's circle ceremonies in these types of things. and i even have family members that may come out and watch the final race and honor of my great grandfather. but she says the closure is long overdue. calling the treatment of the horses here a tragedy. i my heart and my mind are both with the horses that we weren't able to save. so golden gate fields kills many courses every year since they announced the closure in july of 2023. >> 19 horses have been killed here according to the california horse racing board. >> that was, of course, death recorded on friday here. samantha says this is why

she's been calling for their closure over new horse racing board claims that horse racing deaths in california are decreasing. the rate of deaths is decreasing, but the california public has shown that we see horses as individuals and every single death is a travesty and every single that is not worth entertainment of whatever people believe is happening here. the 140 acre tract is going to be missed by other residents who say the financial impact will be felt if it's not developed into something else. and it's terrible for the city of albany because get almost a million dollars taxes every year from the owners of the racetrack. so we're going to lose that in our lezla gooden kron. 4 news. >> the owners of golden gate fields put out a statement saying the closure and final day of racing at golden gate fields reflects the ongoing y% and complex economic challenges of the thoroughbred racing industry in california. we've been proud to be part of the 83 year legacy of golden

gate fields. and we look forward to working with stakeholders to create a sustainable future for racing in california. and animal rights group plans to hold a memorial protest outside golden gate fields on sunday. berkeley based direct action everywhere says the vigils meant to recognize the more than 2000 horses have died since the track opened in 1941. >> after undergoing 3 major surgeries and spending the last 5 weeks in the hospital. san jose police officer jaime arradondo is finally back home tonight. san jose police posted this video. the officer being discharged to being cheered on by his fellow officers as well as mayor matt mahan. the post says that the officer still has a long journey to recovery ahead of him. arradondo was one of 2 officers injured during a shootout last month at a hotel in the santa teresa neighborhood. the other officer was released from the hospital shortly afterward.

investigators say a domestic violence survivor and her 3 children were sheltering the hotel and the suspect showed up with a gun and then engaged in a gun battle with police for almost 20 rounds were exchanged the suspect identified as kevin briones was also critically injured in the shooting. but we do not have an update on his condition tonight. >> take a good look at your screen here. police in san francisco are looking for this person they believe may be connected to threats left outside of a home near alamo square. the victim told police he found racially offensive items and messages left next to his building on growth and film our streets. this video of the suspect is from april. police have not confirmed the connection, but this all happened in the same area where a longtime black resident told kron 4 he received packages containing a black doll with a noose just days before his home burned down last month. p>> here is on the person of interest, anyone with information on who they are is asked to contact police

neighbors in san jose are being asked to be on alert after 5 recent sightings of mountain lions. >> kron four's jack moment kelly park where the most recent one was spawned. >> and while the prospect of several mountain lion sightings in the silicon valley just within the last 2 weeks may be scary to some many of the people hiking through kellie park that i talked to say they are concerned about their actually well aware they are entering the habitat. many of these animals. >> yeah, we're just here just off having some exercise, you know, getting some sign despite the warning of a recent mountain lion sighting, kelly park was full of people getting an early start to the weekend on to the probably more scared of us and them the other way around playing around the disc golf with his friends. levi liu qian says he's not worried about seeing a mountain lion now. it definitely makes you think couple times, you know, you're like you hear something in the back on. you're like, oh, what is that? just 24 hours before this disc golf game, mountain lion was spotted at the park. it comes just a day after a

mountain lion was spotted several miles south off ella drive and war. admiral way. >> and before all of these sightings may sot 3 mountain lion sightings. one on the 18th and to invoke i feel it's safety concern not only for the public but for everybody that works here, california fish and wildlife say if you do see a mountain lion, stand your ground, do not run. >> tried to appear large maintain eye contact and slowly back away without turning your back and definitely keep a close eye on your pets. >> are you guys gonzalez says she walks at kelly park nearly every day, but the mountain lions don't stop her. i would never be here at especially with them instead, still enjoying her time with her dogs while having a healthy respect for nature. you know, there's more housing being built up, though. i think that. >> creating you know, that sort of situation to happen in san jose. jackie moment kron 4 news.

>> the major caltrain closure happening this weekend. all services being suspended as the transit agency tests its new electric fleet. there will be no trains between san francisco and san jose on saturday or sunday, limited capacity bus service will be offered but only to san jose's geared on. palo alto and millbrae stations. this weekend marks the first test where 8 electric trains will run simultaneously caltrain says the new fleet will be quicker and quieter than the current diesel trains. >> but this week and goes well, this will be the last weekend shutdown necessary for before this is going to be the first test of a trains moving simultaneously, which is what the what service is going to look like me launch on september 21st. so this is a big moment. this that we know of just one more milestone. we've been hitting really quickly. and really looking forward to getting this one as well. >> once they launch caltrain says express trains will make

the trip from san francisco to san jose in under an hour and local riders will shave about 25 minutes from their commute. time. the new trains will have power outlets it each seat wi-fi, more storage and new restrooms. >> the annual escape from alcatraz triathlon is back this weekend. some brave athletes are going to be jumping into the frigid bay waters swimming a little under half a mile to shore and then running a 5 k sunday's main event features a full triathlon with the full one and a half mile swim from a boat near alcatraz defeat, which was once thought to be impossible. that's followed by an 18 mile bike ride and an 8 mile run. sounds fun, right? if you're more of a competitive eater, you just kind of want to hang out be part of the event. watch these athletes that work. there are going to be food trucks on the marina green tomorrow, along with other to see and do good

the fireworks to the professionals. don't be a dummy. that's right. another fear is those fires that start because of fireworks and years prior construction site fires and others around the bay area have started. >> because people don't leave it to the professionals to not buy fireworks. don't use them in the bay area. there are legal pretty much everywhere around here. and it makes for situations potentially like that. >> ali. it works. hopefully. new at 11, a 15 year-old was stabbed while trying to rob a man today in downtown santa rosa. police say the teen was with a 17 year-old and a 19 year-old man at the santa rosa transit mall around 3 o'clock today. >> they're planning to rob a 24 year-old man. one attacked. police say that 24 year-old defended himself with a 4 inch kitchen style knife. the 15 year-old stabbed in the arm and at least twice in the torso. police accuse the 3

teens of attempted robbery and being gang members. in fairfield in elderly woman and her dog died after their home caught fire. tonight. firefighters say they responded to the home on stephen street learned the woman was trapped in a back bedroom. crews managed to pull her out, but she died on scene to other people. and a cat managed to get out. okay. investigators say the fire appears to be accidental, but they're still looking into the cause. >> the largest insurance carrier in california says it will let some homeowners keep their insurance. but there's a catch. state farm announced back in march. they will be not renewing thousands of home insurance policies because of the risk of wildfires. now state farm says it will renew those policies, but clients will have to specifically secure fire coverage from the california fair plan, which is a state insurance program for homeowners in high-risk areas. insurance consumer advocate aimee bock says the movies is

about it. how about the advisories? excessive heat warnings forget about that is so. last monday, tuesday wednesday, right? we've seen a big change. yes, it's starting to see the city lights glowing in the distance from town. replies. but temperatures now are mainly in the 50's livermore. 56 half may. 54 san francisco. 53 degrees. high pressure has finally moved away is headed off toward texas. that is what was a troublemaker. and now we're left with another area of high pressure about to take aim on high pressure will be heading our direction early next week. monday, tuesday, wednesday. but in the meantime, our main weather feature is an area of low pressure centered in the gulf of alaska counter clockwise flow brings the breezes write to sea breezes and clouds, fog stratus, all the great stuff that makes things cool for us. that's a okay temperatures overnight. mainly in the 50's. 54 degrees for nevado. 55 degrees in fremont temperatures tomorrow

about where they ought to be this time of year. a lot of areas in the 50's and 60's right along the coastline. some 70's some 80's not that many lots of clouds, especially in the morning and linger long at the coastline. and a look ahead for the next 7 days shows the coolest temperatures for saturday sunday and then come monday tuesday. those are the warmest temperatures still wednesday, but you'll notice right along the bay shoreline, primarily in the 70's. maybe a pop-up 80's on tuesday. and while along the coastline 50's and 60's again, tuesday is the hottest day. whether you're inland on the or at the coast as far as winds go, we're okay on those hot days. i think so. i think we'll be all right. we'll keep our fingers crossed. we'll keep monitoring that for you and give you any updates. thanks, kathy. >> after a truck fire caused a traffic nightmare for commuters earlier this week, crews say they will be partially closing the eastbound caldecott tunnel for

several nights next week. caltrans says the left for connecting orinda to oakland on highway. 24 is going to be closed from 10 monday night until 4.30, tuesday morning. so they can clean up all the soot that was left from that fire and that closure is going to be repeated each night until the cleanup is complete. >> and happening tomorrow for women are taking on the world's toughest row tomorrow. this group will embark on a 2800 mile race rolling across the pacific ocean from monterrey to hawaii. the group has been preparing since august. they're expecting to finish it somewhere between 34 and 50 days from now. so a month to 2 months, they're going to be taking turns eating sleeping and a rowing on this small boat the entire time. our producer says will sleep maybe like 30 minutes at a time. yeah, me. neither of a leaf from monterey bay. tomorrow morning at 10, 30, we
