more about what to expect. it's a warming trend. >> how high? how long will that last? all that and more coming up in weather. >> all right. looking forward to that. thank you so much, kathy and developing news. a deadly shooting happened saturday evening at lake berryessa. we know first responders also rushed to stabbing victims to the hospital and that the county sheriff spokesperson says a violent and chaotic scene broke out late yesterday afternoon near oak sure day camp. they tell us the shooting victim is a male bay area resident, his identity not yet released. the sheriff's department says they believe there are other victims at local hospitals also injured during saturday's fight. the area, including the camp site remains shut down as the investigation continues. it is unclear as to what started this as we follow the story. we will continue to update you on the latest. also out of napa, police are looking for a person involved in a deadly car crash. it happened on silverado trail and youngsville crossroad. this is near silverado

vineyards. officials say a minivan in toyota sienna crashed head-on just after 4.30, yesterday. the toyota caught on fire with a person trapped inside. according to chp, one person died and 5 others were injured. officials say a man and one of the cars walked away from that crash. police say they are still searching for that person. family and friends gathered in san francisco's dolores part. remember a son friend and brother, the victim. a san jose state student was fatally shot wednesday night. the gunman still on the loose. hope was jack moment spoke with the victim's family about how they want him to be remembered. >> talia leila is looking at the impossible. a vigil for her only brother luis r just 19 years old, he was shot and killed while out this penchant, the morris park us. the best.

developments come as president joe biden pushes for a tougher ftc review of firms getting privileged access that could undermine fair competition. napa county is launching a i translation platform worth lee at the next board of supervisors. budget meeting that spanish speaking residents can understand the platform provides real-time translation in closed captioning in spanish, on phones, computers and other electronic devices. residents must bring their own devices and earphones to listen or read the translation in person. the meeting happens in person and over zoom monday at 06:00pm. in the east bay. firefighters contain a grass fire in alameda county that grew to 44 acres. the greenville fire at alum on passes. now, 100% contained. firefighters use ground crews to gain the upper hand. 15 celebrations continued around the bay area this weekend on saturday floats bands and dozens of organizations made their way through san

francisco for the second annual juneteenth parade and festival. san francisco firefighters joining in on the fun posting on social media. they are excited to be with an amazing community. it looks like everyone had a great time. celebrations continued following the parade. hundreds gathering to listen to live music and celebrate black culture, local singers and rappers took to the stage, enjoy the opportunity to represent the bay area. you >> also today, a joint juneteenth and pride event unfolds in contra costa county. the city of bunnell host second annual celebration from noon to 03:00pm effort his part. it was started last year by then mayor devin murphy, the current council member was the first black

several state charges against paul pelosi's attacker who was convicted in federal court last month after the federal convictions. state prosecutors brought their own case against david de pap, but his public defender says the state trial represents double jeopardy for dcip app response. the judge on thursday dismissed the state charges of attempted murder, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. but the pap still faces charges including false imprisonment, residential burglary and aggravated kidnapping. those charges were not part of the federal trial. path has pleaded not guilty to all charges. the largest insurance carrier in the state says it plans to continue coverage for some homeowners with a catch. state farm announced back in march. it would not renew thousands of home insurance policies because elevated wildfire. us. but now state farm says it will renew those policies if clients specifically secure acquire coverage from the california fair plan. but the state insurance program for homeowners in high-risk areas.

terms of the winds, the winds picked up just a little bit going right through the golden gate streaming in from the ocean, right into the inland communities at 14 miles per hour. if you want the windier conditions point raises the place to be 22 miles per hour at this point in the winds coming out of the north, the winds will pick up a little bit later. here is the big picture. this big old area of high pressure. that is what's brought us. the heat wave last week. now it's off. it's out of california. it's moved away and you'll notice this trough is sort of light orange thing right there. that area of low pressure is going to bring us cool temperatures continuing again. they started that cooler friday into saturday will continue that trend. and then things will change all step back. you can see what's in store for us next. here comes another area of high pressure. it will start to warm us up on monday into tuesday and wednesday. so we've got a warmer coming our

way, but not quite as hot. i think as it was last week. so it will be lovely enjoyable. it'll feel a bit more like summer time. temperatures today. we're looking at numbers 50's along the coastline. 66 per san francisco 88 degrees in santa rosa. napa. 79 and 84 degrees in antioch, south bay, san jose, 79 degrees. so we're in for a beautiful day. and for the next 7, take a look at my forecast. i'm forecasting a warming trend starting tomorrow. monday, warmer tuesday, warmest of the week. and then wednesday, 92 degrees in the very warmest inland spots, sunshine, but little bit cooler as we head toward the end of the workweek and into next weekend. so we're in for fantastic weather. yeah, love the 7 that actually. it's nice to be the bearer of good news for a that happens high senior thanks so much. sheds. >> the san francisco man tried to escape from police on an

electric scooter during a traffic stop in coma. officer sharing this photo from the chase on may 28th. police say the man complied with officers at first then tried to get away on that scooter. he eventually fell off and started running. officers detained him on the street in daly city. the suspect was booked into the san mateo county jail for resisting arrest. police say he had a $75,000. felony warrant. president joe biden was in france where he met with the president of ukraine to talk about new u.s. military aid. biden also delivered a message about the future of democracy and america's role in protecting it. our washington correspondent hannah brandt has the details on the heels of d-day anniversary. president biden is trying to make the case that the world is facing similar threats to democracy. >> and t argues america has a responsibility to do something about that. >> in a sit-down meeting with ukrainian president zelenskyy, president biden delivered both the promise and an apology not >> walk away you. allen gis

arrested a man accused of selling drugs on social media to santa rosa teens. police say the suspect. 32 year-old hurtado diaz was selling marijuana, thc, vape pens, mushrooms, and cocaine. they say he would use instagram, snapchat and telegram to reach the children and use cash app and venmo for payment. police say last month they spotted hurtado diaz picking up a student near sonoma county high school to give them drugs. officers later detained the suspect during a traffic stop during a search warrant at the suspect's house. police say they also found several guns, including ar 15 style assault weapons. the suspect was booked into jail on several felonies. this pride month san francisco, the pink triangle installation is back on twin peaks for the 29th year. the triangle was used by

captors in gaza saturday. >> israeli officials say the hostages were saved during a complex military operation. but hospital officials in gaza say as many as 200 palestinians were killed during that mission news nation's emily finn reports on how israeli forces brought the hostages back home. >> 4 hostages captured by hamas are now reunited with their families tonight following a military operation, israeli officials are praising as a we tell of the job lifeguards are happy and excited to announce that 4 hostages were released alive and safe from hamas captivity in gaza. the for rescue today were kidnapped during the october 7 hamas led sparked the war. militants took at least 250 hostages. well, about half are released during a week-long ceasefire last november. israel has now been able to save a total of 4 more after today's operation. those rescued are transferred to a

california forever. the project is a proposed new town near the travis air force base that could accommodate up to 400,000 new people. at the end of the day, it's the development of this magnitude is just not good for >> our agricultural economy is our second largest, largest economy in solano county or the habitat or the slide county and the solano land trust says the proposed development has been pushed ahead with misleading messaging. >> adding that the area in question is not a wasteland or landscape of no value. we can have houses and economic development and we don't have to do it at the detriment of our farm economy of a healthy natural environment and that we can still have open spaces for our community to get outside and enjoy in a statement to kron 4, california forever says in part, quote. >> we are proposing a compact sustainable community where there is no ecological habitat on poor soils with low fire risk. according to official

state and county maps. it goes on to say the east solano plan will bring thousands of jobs, homes and economic opportunity that can benefit all of the diverse communities of solano county. we urge the community about now in november, more than 20,000 solano county voters signed the petition to put the east solano plan on the ballot. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> fairfield police are warning residents of a car sale scam. this after a person unknowingly bought a stolen vehicle off of facebook marketplace. officers responded to a call about a fake license plate for a stolen car. they say they found the car park near north texas street and air base parkway last sunday. the owner told police they bought the car off facebook officers are reminding people shopping online to check stellar reviews, make transactions in a safe place and to never go alone. also never carry large amounts of cash instead, use a secure payment method like

paypal. it tell for. new supreme court ruling allows the university of california to build a new student housing at berkeley's historic people's park. kron four's gayle ong has the reaction. >> it's disappointing. >> i'm a neighbor and a mother. my kid has grown whitney sparks not surprise at the state supreme court's decision to allow uc berkeley to start construction on a student housing project at people's park. the project set off years of protest over the landmark people's park is now surrounded by stacks of shipping containers blocking the view of the park and security guards at every corner. something else, opponents of this project do not want to. we'll be continuing to get that removed for guard list of this ruling. and even if they want to build construction, they still don't need to have this shipping container all around. in a statement uc berkeley road, it is pleased with thursday's decision adding, quote. >> the campus is turning its attention to the timeline for resuming construction. we are

grateful for the strong and ongoing support this project has received. the campus is committed to addressing the high cost and low supply of housing close to campus that undermine students ability to thrive succeed and fully partake in all that the university has to offer the high court on thursday has ruled that a new law enacted last year invalidates the claims by 2 local organizations that sued the school saying more students living in downtown berkeley would add noise pollution to an already dense area. the court noted that berkeley provides housing to the lowest percentage of students compared to other schools in the uc system. uc berkeley plans to build a 312 million dollar housing complex for about 1100 of its students. the park was founded in 1969. as part of the air is free speech and civil rights movement and for decades served as a gathering space for free meals, community gardening and our projects and was used by the unhoused. it's not just about housing is also about the environment and

green space. it's about history. >> and a community gathering space. >> and we reached out to the groups who initially filed the lawsuit against uc berkeley. we have not yet heard back in the studio. gayle ong kron. 4 news. alameda county district attorney pamela price facing more criticism this weekend. this time from the family of a murder victim kron four's. dan kerman has more on this case involving a d a already facing a recall election in november. >> on september 6th of 2021, the body of bin hamman was dumped along the side of the road in the oakland hills. he was bound, gagged and strangled to death following his kidnapping during a home invasion robbery. 4 people were arrested in several charged with murder, kidnapping and home invasion. but a plea deal announced monday by alameda county district attorney pamela price looks nothing like those initial charges. >> pamela price is more concerned about her win or

loss record, then bringing justice 2 california bay area. lori henson is the murder victim's sister. >> she says she found out about this plea deal through a news release and was horrified to find out only one person now faces a murder charge, second-degree murder. in fact, and all kidnapping charges have been dropped. that's a slap in the face to the citizens that. >> it pay our tax dollars and expect to be kept safe. now, one of the alleged kidnappers pleads guilty to a home invasion robbery and faces a 6 year 8 month prison sentence. >> and the other alleged kidnapper pleads guilty to first-degree residential burglary and faces a 6 year state prison sentence on action. discouraged. >> i feel that they have. they've let us down in a press release district attorney price as each defendant has entered guilty pleas and accepted responsibility for their actions. >> the pleas by the defendant ensures they will face the

appropriate consequences and accountability for their conduct in these cases. but the dead man's sister doesn't see it that way. it is. >> pains me every single day. every single day. and health to accept the fact that my brother is not coming back. unfortunately, i have to accept that. she has made this plea deal and it may not be changed at all. but i will not accept the fact that. as long as she is in her position of power. she has the authority to make other families feel the way that unsealing dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> in a statement to kron 4, a spokesperson for the da's office defended the office's decision to enter into a plea deal saying in part, quote, it was a complex circumstantial evidence case based on his evaluation of the evidence in our ability to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, the

well. that's one iconic san francisco shot. here's another. the golden gate bridge. >> and as usual, we see clouds and fog. but at least the top of the towers or not it scared. so we're starting out with some gray skies not only in the bay area, but through much of the coastal region of california. you'll see temperatures mainly in the 50's at this hour from eureka down through san francisco, santa barbara la 60 degrees at this hour in sandia and that san diego and numbers in the 60's right now, the central valley. so temperatures not a big range of them so far in the bay area. that'll change a bit as the day wears on. but right now primarily in the 50's, our temperature in oakland is 57, not the 56 pittsburgh up to 63 degrees, though. and in calistoga 60 kelsey, those 63 and the debate is now in the low 50's. 51 degrees for them. so it's a lovely start to the day with the day's heating. it's warming up, but not terribly quickly and is not a big change compared to yesterday.

really with that within a year, a degree or 2 compared to 24 hours ago in terms of winds are still that breezy us point raised at 22 miles per hour. but san francisco, the winds are streaming through the golden gate at 14, bringing in more of that marine temperatures today will not be terribly hot. we'll start to see some much of a lot more clearing along the california coast come tomorrow. but for today, we're going to stay with some things. pretty gray in many areas. and then again, we get the inland clearing. so it will be a typical kind of scenario for us today with temperatures coast side 50's 60's. 66 san francisco into the 70's and 80's in some of the warmest inland spots. it's not that hot for this time of year, but not far from normal. not the 79 vallejo. 74 fremont. 73 degrees. a look ahead shows the temperatures start to really warm up come tomorrow tuesday. that's the warmest day and wednesday with some areas in the in the zones in the 90's. things cool off a little bit thursday and friday

and saturday, but you'll notice along the bay shoreline, primarily in the 70's for the next 4 days, dipping a little bit on bouncing back again on friday and saturday. so we're in for a nice run of temperatures. stephanie, back to all right, kathy, thank you. the manhunt continues this morning for a robbery suspect in san francisco. chinatown. >> kron four's philippe djegal reports. >> off-guard is terrible that somebody would do that to another human being at around 6 o'clock wednesday morning. surveillance video from a business near grant avenue and jackson street shows a woman walking along the sidewalk in san francisco's chinatown. she was alone at the time and the suspect took advantage of that. >> she was approached from behind from male suspect who took her belongings and fortune to forced her to the ground prior to fleeing the scene. the suspect left on foot. the victim gave chase

what she got back on her feet. >> but she never caught up with a thief. the victim we did about 6 hours before going to central station to report the robbery. medic was called to the station to medically evaluate the victim. >> and the victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries is absolutely important to report the case because if you did not report it, according to the police department. >> it did not happen. leanna louie says it breaks your heart to watch video of the violent ataack. she is founder and president of the united peace collaborative, nonprofit group of volunteers that conducts walking safety patrols in chinatown. i don't know she's armed with anything shoes even aware. >> that per se was around her. you know, if she was aware she could be easily pepper sprayed him when he was approaching her too closely. police are not releasing any information about the victim. victim advocates also suggest carrying a whistle. >> to alert others nearby. if you feel threatened. i always

think that people should walk in pairs like i hardly ever go out alone. so far, no arrests have been made. >> philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> stanford university announced this week it is bringing back its standardized testing requirement for admission. those changes do impact undergraduate admissions starting fall of 2025? the school paused as testing requirement in twenty-twenty during the covid pandemic. stafford joins harvard, yale brown and cornell in the move to reinstate standardized testing. kron 4 is your local election headquarters. and with less than 5 months from election day left, governor gavin newsom officially launched it ballot measure campaign to enshrine the right to same marriage into our state constitution. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a closer look at the freedom to marry initiative. >> well, to be clear, same marriage is legal in california just as it is in all 50 states. but our state constitution still contains language that says otherwise.

and now governor gavin newsom hopes to change that. >> we have a special role and responsibility to lead. and that's with this initiative. it's all about with that. governor gavin newsom officially launch the campaign in support of what's been dubbed the freedom to marry initiative set to appear on the ballot. >> this november. it would enshrine the right to same marriage into the california state constitution. i want to be here believe in a little history, as you may know on this issue. but it's the state's recent history. why newsom says this measure is needed in 2008 california voters approved prop 8 to ban same marriage across the state and formally defined marriage in the state constitution as a union between a man and a woman. well, a federal court overturned the law in 2013. and while the united states supreme court legalized same marriage nationwide in 2015, the prop 8 language defining marriage between a man and a woman has remained in the state constitution all these years later, newsom wants to

change that. we're making a decision to stand up. newsome, an lgbtq+ advocates say the bella measure is needed now amid concerns the united states supreme court could one day overturn its decision to legalize same marriage nationwide just like it overturned roe v wade 2 years ago leaving abortion rights to the states. the overturning of roe versus wade showed us that our most basic rights can be taken away. they're coming for us. >> and what is important then is that we live our authentic lives and that we're fighting here. we are. >> in 2024, and what we're not experiencing. we're not experiencing a rights expansion. we're experiencing a rights progression and that's why it's imperative. but states like california step up and assert themselves at this critical time. the measure already qualifi the ballot with bipartisan approval from the legislature. but the california family council is a post citing concerns the ballot language. >> is too vague. look at what initiative actually says under

evening left one person dead and multiple people injured after a fight broke out at season. a fight broke out at a campground in the north bay. crawfords tiffany justice is live for us in napa to get the latest updates. what happened there? good morning, tiffany. >> good morning. stephanie have already seen the sheriff's departments of police officers along with park rangers arriving this morning to continue their investigation were actually quite close to the scene. this is where the altercation happened in. you can see that gray truck in the background. that is one of the vehicles left behind by a victim. you can see those cones completely surrounding it because investigators do want to spend more time with that truck. according to the napa county sheriff's department. it was a chaotic scene here yesterday. one bay area man was fatally shot and 2 others had to be airlifted to a local hospital due to stab wounds. so here's what we know so far around 05:30pm, yesterday, sheriff's office responded to a, quote,

caltrans says the left for connecting orinda to oakland on highway. 24 shuts down from 10:00pm monday night until 4.30, tuesday morning. so crews can clean up the scent left behind the closure repeats each night until cleanup is complete. judge dismisses several state charges against paul pelosi's attacker who was convicted in federal court last month after the federal convictions. state prosecutors brought their own case against david de pap, but his public defender says that state trial represents double jeopardy for in response. the judge on thursday dismissed the state charges of attempted murder, elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon but the pats still faces charges including false imprisonment, residential burglary and aggravated kidnapping. those charges were not part of the federal trial. the path has pleaded not guilty to all charges the largest insurance carrier in the state says it plans to continue coverage for some homeowners with a catch. state farm announced back in march.

looks like we're at 59 in livermore. 56 in berkeley. you can pick out your location if you're in timber on its 52 in stepback. so if point rays, it's 52 degrees. kelsey bill 67, so it's going to be a beautiful day. winds right now are streaming through the golden gate at 13 miles per hour. but its com from santa rosa to novato and hayward. we've got the westerly breeze coming in at 7 miles per hour. calm also in mountain view. it's a beautiful day. grey skies along much of our coastline. but you'll see some clearing that's going through monday. hardly any clouds there on monday and the same thing for tuesday into wednesday. and that's the clue. high pressure will be our big event starting tomorrow. not as big as last week's high pressure, but still we have a warming trend in store for us. but for today, one more day of temperatures pretty close to normal. san francisco, 66

degrees novato 80 palais 74 antioch. 84 and in livermore, 81. so will be a nice day, warm inland, not scorching hot, but along the coastline will keep things on the mild side in the 50's and the 60's in terms of air quality, it's good to moderate. you can pick out your area. oakland, we're at moderate air quality for san jose and for fairfield. on the other hand, communities are seeing good air quality. now, francisco, redwood city hayward, fremont are all good air quality. so we love that. a look ahead. oh, yes, we definitely have some warming conditions starting on monday and tuesday in wednesday, it's drops a little bit. and then things taper off and moderate again for thursday and friday. so it's a really nice 7 day outlook. right now, a trough is keeping us on the cool side that goes away. high pressure builds in and we're back in business with warmer

temperatures. that will thank goodness no triple digits, though. yeah, exactly. i think will to stay in the double digits that works for us. all right. we'll take it. thanks so much, kathy. >> a san francisco man tried to escape from police on an electric scooter during a traffic stop in coma. officer sharing this photo from the chase on may. 28 police say the man complied with officers at first then tried to get away on that scooter. he eventually fell off and then just started running. officers detained him on the street in daly city, the suspect was booked into the san mateo county jail for resisting arrest. police say he is $75,000. felony warrant. president joe biden was in france where he met with the president of ukraine to talk about new aid. biden also delivering a message about the future of democracy and america's role in protecting it. our washington correspondent hannah brandt has the details. well, sunday days anniversary, president biden is trying to make the case that the world is facing similar threats to democracy.

>> police arrested a man accused of selling drugs on social media to santa rosa teens. police say the suspect. 32 year-old oliver hurtado diaz was selling marijuana, thc, vape pens, mushrooms, and cocaine. they say he would use instagram, snap chat and telegram to reach the children and use cash app and venmo for payment. police say last month they spotted hurtado diaz picking up a student near sonoma county high school to give them drugs. officers later detained the suspect during a traffic stop during a search warrant at the suspect's home. police say they also found several guns, including ar 15 style assault

temperatures inland stretching into the 70's and 80's along the bay shoreline, upper 60's to 70's. and what along the coast, of course, lots of gray. here's the view from mount temple. pius, did i say great? yes, indeed. we've got some moderate clouds heading across the from the ocean into the inland areas. and here's a view at the ocean. this is half moon bay grays skies above. and if you go out there right now, you pretty much have the beach to yourself for a few bicyclists right there. but overall temperatures right now still in the 50's. no big change in temperatures except in the east bay. antioch is now at 67 degrees. mountain view inched up into 61. and so is san jose. and air quality is really quite good in many areas across our our community, but not everywhere. it's moderate in some spots. overall, we're in for a gorgeous day our temperatures looking ahead, start to warm up quite a bit as high pressure once again getting

jose 60. once you see, we have very slight warming but not dramatic. san francisco at this hour's 55 degrees. if you're in timber on its 54 sonoma, 59 degrees. pittsburgh, 64. so, of course, a little bit warmer in the east bay and temperatures are great. and so are the winds not terribly breezy some 13 13 miles per hour, right through the golden gate in terms of temperatures and this afternoon, warming into the 80's and 70's. this is not hot. there's a very weak trough that's keeping temperatures a little bit suppressed. and that's fine. 80 degrees. wind of auto. 71 for sandra fell. 58, half moon bay, 81 degrees to be heading to morgan hill today in terms air quality. it is very good in many areas to moderate and others. so san francisco, good air quality and santa is a moderate fairfield moderate. so no big concerns. and we do have some pollens in the air. but their medium nother, not a big deal. if you have

allergies to grasses all it's that that could be a concern for you. but look at what happens. high pressure. it takes control, starting tomorrow. and look what happens when high pressure is in control. the temperatures start to rise, especially into tuesday and then they relax just a little bit for wednesday by thursday, friday, saturday, our warmest temperatures inland will be in the 80's numbers, mainly in the 70's in the bay shoreline, 50's and 60's wide along the coast for the next 7 days. i kept it so much. the manhunt continues this morning for a robbery suspect in san francisco's chinatown. >> kron four's philippe djegal reports. >> blindsided and caught off guard is terrible that somebody would do that to another human being at around 6 o'clock wednesday morning. surveillance video from a business near grant avenue and jackson street shows a woman walking along the sidewalk in san francisco's chinatown. she was alone at the time and the suspect took advantage of that.

>> she was approached from behind from male suspect who took her belongings and force to the ground, forced her to the ground prior to fleeing the scene. the suspect left on foot. the victim gave chase when she got back on her feet. >> but she never caught up with the victim we did about 6 hours before going to central station to report the robbery. medic was called to the station to medically evaluate the victim. >> and the victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries is absolutely important to report the case because if you did not report it, according to the police department. >> it did not happen. leanna louie says it breaks your heart to watch video of the violent attack. she is founder and president of the united peace collaborative, nonprofit group of volunteers that conducts walking safety patrols in chinatown. i don't know she's armed with anything shoes even aware. >> that per se was around her.

you know, if she was aware she could be easily pepper sprayed him when he was approaching her too closely. police are not releasing any information about the victim. victim advocates also suggest carrying a whistle. >> to alert others nearby. if you feel threatened. i always think that people should walk in pairs like i hardly ever go out alone. so far, no arrests have been made. philippe djegal kron. 4 news. >> stanford university announced this week it is bringing back its standardized testing requirement for admission the changes impact undergraduate admissions starting fall of 2025. the school paused its testing requirement in twenty-twenty during the covid pandemic. stafford joins harvard, yale brown and cornell and the move to reinstate standardized testing. >> the cooperation local election headquarters with less than 5 months away from election day. >> governor gavin newsom officially launched a ballot measure campaign to enshrine the right the same marriage into the state constitution.

our capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a closer look at the freedom to marry initiative. >> well, to be clear, same marriage is legal in california just as it is in all 50 states. but our state constitution still contains language that says otherwise. and now governor gavin newsom hopes to change that. >> we have a special role and responsibility to lead. and that's with this initiative. it's all about with that. governor gavin newsom officially launch the campaign in support of what's been dubbed the freedom to marry initiatpve set to appear on the ballot. >> this november. it would enshrine the right to same marriage and to the california state constitution. i want to be here and believe in a little history, as you may know on this issue. but it's the state's recent history. why newsom says this measure is needed in 2008 california voters approved prop 8 to ban same marriage across the state and formally defined marriage in the state constitution as a union between a man and a woman. well, a federal court

overturned the law in 2013. and while the united states supreme court legalized same marriage nationwide in 2015, the prop 8 language defining marriage between a man and a woman has remained in the state constitution all these years later, newsom wants to change that. we're making the decision to stand up. newsome, an lgbtq+ advocates say the bella measure is needed now amid concerns the united states supreme court could one day overturn its decision to legalize same marriage nationwide just like it overturned roe v wade 2 years ago leaving abortion rights to the states. overturning of roe versus wade showed us that our most basic rights can be taken away. they're coming for us. >> and what is important then is that we live our authentic lives and that we're fighting here. we are. >> in 2024, and what we're not experiencing. we're not experiencing a rights expansion. we're experiencing a rights regression and that's why it's imperative. but states like california step up and assert themselves at this

sheriff's department this morning. we gathered a lot more detail as to what happened yesterday. we know that multiple agencies are involved. multiple agencies are investigating and we're being told that the first deputy to arrive here yesterday at 5.30, when they first got the call. first try to give aid cpr to the man who was shot according to the napa county sheriff's department. it was a chaotic scene. one bay area man was fatally shot and 2 others had to be airlifted to a local hospital due to stab wounds. so here's what we know so far around 05:30pm. the sheriff's office responded to a, quote, large fight here at oak shores, daily use area. when they arrived, they found one man on the ground with gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead here at the lake. several other people were stabbed, but the actual number of victims remains unknown are being told because of the sheer amount of people involved. >> the sheriff's office calling it a melee and that there was alcohol involved as well to other people were

airlifted to the hospital. several others were taken by car. the cause of this fight unknown. at this time i asked the sheriff's department, do you guys doing any more information as to what may have caused this fight in the first place? and they are still looking into that. but they're asking the public if you do have any video. >> from yesterday, if you were here and you please contact the napa county sheriff's department. back to you. >> tiffany, thank you for your ongoing coverage. also out of napa, police are looking for a person involved in a deadly car crash. that crash happened on silverado trail and yelled bill crossroad. that's near silverado vineyards. officials say a minivan and toyota sienna crashed head-on just after 4.30, yesterday. the toyota caught on fire with a person trapped inside. according to chp, one person died and 5 others injured. officials say a man and one of the cars walked away from the collision. police say they are still searching for that person. family and friends gathered in san francisco's dolores park to remember a son

sales scam. this after a person unknowingly bought a stolen vehicle on facebook marketplace. officers responded to a call about a fake license plate for a stolen car. they say they found the car park near north texas street and air base parkway last sunday. the owner told police they bought the car off of facebook. officers are reminding people shopping online to check stellar reviews, make transactions in a safe place and to never go alone. also never carry large amounts of cash. instead, use a secure payment method like paypal. with california supreme court ruling allows the university of california to build new student housing at berkeley's historic people's park. kron four's gayle ong has the reaction. >> it's disappointing. >> i'm a neighbor and a mother. my kid has grown and whitney sparks not surprised at the state supreme court's decision to allow uc berkeley to start construction on a student housing project a people's park. the project set off years of protest over the

dumped along the side of the road in the oakland hills. he was bound, gagged and strangled to death following his kidnapping during a home invasion robbery. 4 people were arrested in several charged with murder, kidnapping and home invasion. but a plea deal announced monday by alameda county district attorney pamela price looks nothing like those initial charges. >> pamela price is more concerned about her win or loss record, then bringing justice to california bay area. lori henson is the murder victim's sister. >> she says she found out about this plea deal through a news release and was horrified to find out only one person now faces a murder charge, second-degree murder. in fact, and all kidnapping charges have been dropped. that's a slap in the face to the citizens that. >> it pay our tax dollars and expect to be kept safe. now, one of the alleged kidnappers pleads guilty to a home invasion robbery and faces a 6

continues this morning for a robbery suspect in san francisco's chinatown. kron four's philippe djegal reports. >> blindsided and caught off guard is terrible that somebody would do that to another human being at around 6 o'clock wednesday morning. surveillance video from a business near grant avenue and jackson street shows a woman walking along the sidewalk in san francisco's chinatown. she was alone at the time and the suspect took advantage of that. >> she was approached from behind from male suspect who took her belongings and

fortune to forced her to the ground prior to fleeing the scene. the suspect left on foot. the victim gave chase when she got back on her feet. >> but she never caught up with a the victim we did about 6 hours before going to central station to report the robbery. a medic was called to the station to medically evaluate the victim. >> and the victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries is absolutely important to report the case because if you did not report it, according to the police department. >> it did not happen. leanna louie says it breaks your heart to watch video of the violent attack. she is founder and president of the united peace collaborative, nonprofit group of volunteers that conducts walking safety patrols in chinatown. i don't know she's armed with anything or shoes even aware. >> that per se was around her. you know, if she was aware she could be easily peppersprayed him when he was approaching her too closely. police are not releasing any information about the victim. victim advocates also suggest

constitution still contains language that says otherwise. and now governor gavin newsom hopes to change that. >> we have a special role and responsibility to lead. and that's with this initiative. it's all about with that. governor gavin newsom officially launch the campaign in support of what's been dubbed the freedom to marry initiative set to appear on the ballot. >> this november. it would enshrine the right to same marriage into the california state constitution. i want to be here believe in a little history, as you may know on this issue. but it's the state's recent history. why newsom says this measure is needed in 2008 california voters approved prop 8 to ban same marriage across the state and formally defined marriage in the state constitution as a union between a man and a woman. well, a federal court overturned the law in 2013. and while the united states supreme court legalized same marriage nationwide in 2015, the prop 8 language defining marriage between a man and a

woman has remained in the state constitution all these years later, newsom wants to change that. we're making a decision to stand up. newsome, an lgbtq+ advocates say the bella measure is needed now amid concerns the united states supreme court could one day overturn its decision to legalize same marriage nationwide just like it overturned roe v wade 2 years ago leaving abortion rights to the states. overturning of roe versus wade showed us that our most basic rights can be taken away. they're coming for us. >> and what is important then is that we live our authentic lives and that we're fighting here. we are. >> in 2024, and what we're not experiencing. we're not experiencing a rights expansion. we're experiencing a rights progression and that's why it's imperative. but states like california step up and assert themselves at this critical time. the measure already qualified for the ballot with bipartisan approval from the legislature. but the california family council is a post citing concerns the ballot language.

well, 3 infamous heather, 3 cubs of an infamous bear lake tahoe previously known as hank. the tank are now back in the wild. their mother since renamed to henrietta was transferred to a colorado sanctuary last september because she kept breaking into homes. a troublemaker there. now officials were worried the cubs will take after mom. so

the little ones were taken to sonoma county wildlife rescue for care. and now they're back in the wild in the sierra mountains. and of course, we wish the best of luck. kathy, it's good to see, but i don't get why. if if a bear has 3 cubs do it named page as opposed to having clue of might be the mama bear? you know, i think initially they didn't know the gender of the bear and then she had the babies and they're like, ok, it's a lady bear. okay. does have a ring to it. >> whether wow, beautiful conditions. one more coolish day temperatures pretty close to normal. and then there's tomorrow. >> and then there's tuesday as high pressure builds in a new heat wave builds in as well. but it's not going to be as hot as the crazy and temperatures last and let you go to the central valley which cases visor e this kicking in early next week. so if you're starting to head east, there could be some very hot conditions there. but for us, it's just a mild bump. and then temperatures come back down just a little bit toward the end of the workweek to
