>> he's calling news 2. >> thanks for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm justine waldman. we're going to get in the east bay where 2 people remain in the hospital after their apartment caught on fire. this incident happened at a pittsburgh apartment building on the crestview drive right near the bart station. the fire is now out. kron 4 s charles clifford has the latest. >> well, here in pittsburgh on monday morning, a 2 alarm fire sent a column of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles and 2 people were sent to the hospital just after 8 monday morning. firefighters responded here to the pittsburgh park apartments along crestview drive on reports of a structure fire. >> crews arriving on scene found this 2 story apartment burning resident on the ground floor was able to get out. but 2 people, a 15 year-old girl and adult men were trapped on the second floor. neighbors could see them in a window. fire crews entered the building using ladders and were able to get them out. the mail was brought down. a lot of that. you see behind me

with the parkers and the juvenile was brought downstairs. both were unconscious when they came out, our paramedics went to work and we have a local looks like they're pretty well. they're going to critical. but they're doing the fire response was upgraded to a second alarm but only took crews about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. >> crews were also able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments. although the adjoining unit did suffer some minor damage. it's believed the fire started on the first floor. but the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation. in pittsburgh, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> all right. we'll talk about our forecast now with this live look outside across the city of san francisco. as we kick off monday here in this afternoon. meteorologist kyla grogan in the weather center with details on the warm-up. that's on the way. hey there. yeah. beautiful day out there today. you can see that a little breeze going on as we take a live look here at the bay bridge. we did start off a little fog this morning, but even half moon bay right now starting to see that sunshine peeking through as we look this afternoon, a few folks out there taking a walk, kind

of enjoying a really nice day. 57 degrees is certainly cooler at half moon bay microclimates climates on display today. we cross the bay over to hayward where it's 74. we go inland where 88 in antioch, but still these numbers are 2 bad 89 in livermore. 85 in santa rosa and 80 down in san jose. pretty pleasant day out there. but tomorrow you are correct. justine, what you say? we're about to warm up. it has everything to do with high pressure here that is building off the coast. and as that builds and as you get a little closer to us, what it does is that ridge allows a little bit of a heat dome to get going. and when we get that, we get the marine layer compressing so we don't get as much influence in the evening in the morning, right where we see a little bit of a cool down coming right now. you can see as we look at stormtracker 4, it's kind of pushed everything away from the coast. that's why we're getting a little bit of that sunshine there, half moon bay. but tomorrow it will be all about the warm-up. we have heat advisory kicking off at 11:00am on tuesday going through 08:00pm. you can see where it is. it is our inland spots in the north bay in the east bay and the south bay. so it does not include the

peninsula in san francisco are certainly the coast along the pacific or even a good portion of those of you write bayside. but everybody else. yeah, we're looking out for some of that heat and we could even see a few spots get into very close to at least triple digit heat tomorrow. so tonight, increasing clouds, a little patchy, coastal fog and then tomorrow the heat is on. i'll be back in a bit. we'll talk about just how warm those numbers are set to go. all right. 3 people were killed in 2 separate shootings earlier this morning in oakland. the first shooting happened around. >> one 30 on filbert street just north of 80 near martin luther king junior elementary school officers found a person suffering from at least one gunshot wound who they say died. the second shooting turned into a double homicide just after 02:00am near the intersection of international boulevard and 100 and second avenue officers found an antioch man who had been shot and he was taken to the hospital where he later died. a second victim, a juvenile from san francisco arrived at a hospital with just gun shot wounds and he also died. no

arrests have been made. the oakland roots organization showing support today for one of its players after being what's described as abuse over social media by racist cowards. carr, jai, who is a gambian born player, was targeted after a game last night and the oakland roots posted a statement in response to the incident. it reads in part, oakland roots in seoul. stand by our players and everyone facing abuse and discrimination. bob carr, we love you. oakland loves you. racism has no place in sports or society. there's now a new burglary rewards program that's going to start tomorrow in san mateo county was created in response to an uptick in residential burglaries. kron four's tiffany justice live for us now in the newsroom with details and how people can get paid for this. tiffany, right. this new pilot program is on the agenda for tomorrow. and supervisor ray mueller says he has the support of the board.

>> this program is also set to start tuesday, offering a financial incentive to ward off burglars. >> there's a program. this a more comprehensive program. beyond just the tip, the mateo county district, 3 supervisor ray mueller announcing a new county wide pilot program. monday. the residential burglary reward program is set to start tuesday to 8 information gathering during active criminal investigations. the supervisor says this program was prompted by an uptick in burglaries in the past 6 months. we've had a string residential burglaries that taking place in district 3 in san mateo county. >> so much so that after 10, they actually started a new innovation, innovative program where they started to use state houses. attended a town town hall meetings and woodside and then sharon heights in menlo park as well. this is something concern effort throughout my district, frankly, supervisor mueller calling this program and new tool for law enforcement. the mateo county sheriff's department, along with the san

mateo district attorney's office will be working together. >> some jurisdictions may even choose to put up signs in specific areas saying we have this program in place so that residents realize that when they see something, there's a financial incentive to pay attention as to what's happening there. report that information. but more importantly, in order to solve those crimes, what we is that when these crimes occur, the local police chief that is a different agency will go ahead, sit down share that information with committee that we put together at the county consisting of the county executive's office, the sheriff's office in the district attorney's office at that point, a reward will go ahead and be put in place all the way up to $10,000. the san mateo county sheriff christina corpus saying that the new program is expected to make the county safer. >> our community members and stakeholders. when something appear suspicious or out of the ordinary. it's important that we take action know.

>> tuesday supervisor mueller is expected to outline the new pilot program to the board. he'll be asking the board to set aside $125,000 to fund this program. so right now, the specific details of of of whether or not they'll be a 1, 8, 100 number put together, for instance, it's something that will be shared at the time. the first reward is posted. but if individuals have information right that there were information regarding a burglary. >> i'd encourage them to go ahead and contact local police department. get in touch with the county starting tomorrow. this program will be put in place. >> now the supervisor calling this a more comprehensive program compared to a tip line. any information will be shared with other jurisdictions information leading to an arrest and conviction could lead to a reward up to $10,000 reporting live in the newsroom. tiffany justice kron. 4 news. tiffany, thank you so now to national news and former president donald trump scheduled for a

pre sentencing probation meeting today related to his criminal conviction. >> it will be done virtually and it is required by the court. trump is at his florida estate with his lawyer, the probation officers in new york last month, trump found guilty on all 34 counts in his hush money trial making him the first former president to be convicted of a felony. the presumptive gop presidential nominee could get probation or up to 4 years in prison. sentencing is set for july. 11th. jury deliberations now underway in the federal gun case against the president's son. hunter biden. closing arguments wrapped up earlier today. hunter biden is charged with 3 felonies stemming from the 2018 purchase of a gun he had for about 11 days. prosecutors say he lied on a mandatory gun purchase forms saying he was not using illegal drugs at the time. his lawyers say there's no evidence he was actually using drugs in those 11 days that he possessed the gun. hunter biden did not take the stand

>> the fierce corral fire last weekend injured in alameda county firefighter. he's currently in the hospital with severe burns and will be needing several surgeries. now as kron four's theresa stasi reports, his friends are reaching out trying to help his family through this difficult time. >> and that the fire has burned over flown out to santa clara medical center. >> that's brian son, tony communications director with alameda county fire department. he is now on a journey to thank the community for coming out in support of brandon franco. franco shown here with his wife and child was out fighting the corral fire that erupted june first near tracy with ferocious winds. the blaze cut through grass quickly. crews ultimately did get the upper hand on the blaze. but franco is still in the hospital and he suffered 3rd degree burns on his arm and his back. >> and he's just such an amazing firefighter said tony says that franco has already had surgery and we'll need

>> there were to happen in our area. you know, we have a place that meeting nowhere to go. >> all right. to help protect your home. recommending cutting out dry trimming trees cleaning out your gutters. let's talk about our forecast now with this live look outside here at the embarcadero. looking out towards the bay today. kolr grogan here now with how hot it's going to get this week. yeah, it's beautiful. today. we are going to hot this week. not quite as hot as we did last week's i'm happy to say. but if you take a look at the entire state of california here, all the inland spots we're going to be under these heat advisories and even heat warnings in some places tomorrow and for some spots, even through wednesday for here in the bay area. we're going zoom in here. just kind of show you. it is not san francisco itself for the peninsula, but it really is our inland valleys and our mountains and hills up in the north bay. also same story in the east bay and down the south bay as well. so it is going to be widespread. but as i mentioned, we're not looking out for he to be quite as

pervasive as it was a mistake. livermore's example here, the average high is 81 degrees. and today we're looking at about 90 degrees. but tomorrow, 98. so we'll be flirting with a triple digit heat. couple degrees cooler as we get into wednesday, but still well above average and still a little bit of heat risk for people who are inland. no doubt about it. cooling it down on thursday. and then you can see the kind of go back up a little bit as we head towards the weekend. but we just stay above average for the entire next 7 days. so why is that happening? high pressure is going to be bumping in. and as that happens, you can see these different colors, the brighter colors mean warmer temperatures. and we start to see that happen as we get that high pressure moving in and that would be thursday where we start to get a little bit of a break right after tuesday and wednesday. but you see we kind of keep the high pressure around even as we head towards the weekend. so that's why we'll stay relatively warm. so as we take a look right now at stormtracker 4, you can see that counter clockwise circulation of the wind there over the pacific. a telltale sign of high pressure. that's where it is. and by the time

tomorrow we talk about this, it will be even closer to us. current temperatures right now, 80 degrees in san jose. but check out livermore. 89 dublin at 87 cooler around the bay berkeley about 62 and up in the north bay checkout cloverdale already up to 89 degrees right now. 85 in santa rosa. so the warm-up is upon us. the 80's today become the 90's. tomorrow. you can see san francisco looking out for 70's concord, upper 90's as well in san jose. a little bit cooler in the low 90's. but a real quick look at your extended forecast shows us lots of sunshine, whole lot of warmth on tuesday and wednesday should just be ready for that folks inland. and then we'll start to cool down a little bit, at least as we get through the rest of the week. the un security council has approved its first resolution endorsing a cease-fire plan that israel has accepted. this is aimed at ending the 8 month israel-hamas war in gaza. hamas, though, has yet to accept this. it's coming, though, days after a special operation by israel that led to the release of 4 hostages.

our washington correspondent shot hudson joins us now live with the latest details. thanks for joining us. i just seen the white house is responding and praising that rescue of the 4 hostages. >> but saying the goal is to have more hostages released and move toward a cease-fire deal. after a major rescue operation. the families of 4 israeli hostages taken by hamas on october, 7th are now back with their loved ones. president biden says there's more work to be done stop working until all the hostages come home. and a cease-fire is reached. >> the operation to free. the 4 hostages left an israeli commander dead after the israeli military says its forces came under heavy fire during the mission. according to hamas, nearly 300 palestinians were also killed during the mission. but arkansas republican senator tom cotton had this message for hamas. if you don't want

your people killed. >> in hostage rescue missions and you shouldn't take hostages in the first >> pro-palestinian protests formed in front of the white house over the weekend demanding the bloodshed must stop. if you want to alleviate. >> the terrible suffering of palestinians in gaza. press say yes. >> secretary of state antony blinken met monday with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. blinken says it's up to hamas to accept a phased ill that would stop the fighting and secure the release of remaining hostages. hamas want to end this conflict and >> this war than it started. we're not. >> and this afternoon, the un security council adopted its first resolution endorsing the cease-fire deal. but so far, hamas has not publicly responded to it. just seen. >> shot. also a key member of israel's war cabinet resigned

>> california job openings have declined 42% in the last 2 years. this is according to research that was done by the orange county register. that's the second biggest drop off of any state only behind kentucky, arizona, pennsylvania, tennessee, round out the top 5 states with the biggest job opening declines nationwide during that same time period. job openings have

bridge about to disappear behind the marine layer. let's see how far that's going to go today with our meteorologist. kyla grogan could barely see it anymore. i know, right. and we are going to a little marine layer tonight at least and that will cool us down a little bit as we get into the overnight. but right now we're having a kind of nice day out there. temperatures are quite lovely. low 60's in san francisco. it made it up to the upper 60's in oakland. >> 80 degrees in san jose. there is a little heat out there. livermore. one of those spots at 89 concord and santa rosa now at 85 degrees. and of course, much cooler half moon bay where they really just got the sun in not long ago. they were pretty cloudy this morning. so about 55 degrees there wind is a little brisk. so that is going to bring that marine layer again and again tonight. you can see about 20 miles per hour right now in san francisco. so certainly our afternoon usual here we start to get the breezy conditions is going to happen. but for any of my friends who are those patio work at home, folks. pretty nice day today, right out in walnut creek. lovely, really upper 80's. even that ninety-degree mark should be a lovely afternoon for you to kind of finish up

your workday. and as we get into the evening, here comes that marine layer is going to build in as we get late into the night. we'll see it make a little bit of an entrance into the bay. but notice tomorrow morning, it does kind of pull away rather quickly. so that's what i think we're going to notice that compression of the marine layer that then allows us to really heat up pretty quickly as we get into tomorrow. now, tomorrow will be the warmest day of the next few. having said that, even though tomorrow will be the warmest day, we're up to, you know, about 98 degrees, even potentially up to triple digit heat and some of our inland spots because slightly cooler wednesday, but not really a cool down. the actual cooldown will now coming on thursday. so just get ready for some heat tuesday and wednesday. i will talk more about your seven-day forecast when come back in a bit. kayla, thank you. there is an increased risk of fire danger this week all across the bay area. the national weather service says hot and dry afternoons will elevate that fire risk conference. michael thomas has the tips we need to know over the last few weeks, a bay area has seen multiple small fires and heat advisories and

weather is in critical fire weather happening like wind and humidity. >> well, officials say we're still having hot and dry afternoons and robert fellowes, a fire captain with the fire was committee says knowing how to prepare your specific property is key. well, there's a list of fire suggestions on how to at the various zones around the homes, the 0 to 5 when you should have plants or wooden fences up against your home. there's that 5 to 30 3200 officials say one hot and dry afternoons are combined with very dry, fine fuels. it causes elevated fire danger and fellows tells me the biggest issue. he sees is this with all the closings, vegetation to the that you have. >> people who have their nice plantings. bushes right up against the house and journey 0 to 5 feet to try to keep the tradition away from the so that certify feud is pretty critical, regardless of location. officials say these tips could help save your home, maintaining a defensible space of at least 30 feet. >> and making sure that you're

cutting down those dry out weeds keeping them at least 4 inches or less trimming back trees along with low hanging branches and removing branches that are near roof lines. keeping them at least 10 feet away, cleaning gutters of any debris. and of course, always having a plan in the case of an emergency. those says when it comes preparing, it's a team effort to keep everyone safe. we're all in this together. if everybody does their part to prepare their properties, that everybody will be safer. >> all right. now to the north bay where a man accidentally set himself on fire inside rohnert park hotel. while police say he was using illegal drugs. police arrived to the in that rohnert park on redwood drive yesterday morning following and alert of the sprinkler system being activated. the alarm forced the evacuation of all the guests and officials say they found a man on the second floor with significant burns to his arms and torso. they say that he was using drugs, what his clothes caught on fire. in santa rosa, a

firefighter, some pets and people all her to the home fire. this was on sunday morning on creekside road. the fire started in the attic and then involve some wiring to people and some animals were hurt. no word on the extent of their injuries. the firefighter was hurt while operating a large fire hose and he is expected to be okay. the fire department says the fire appears to be accidental. as scary moment for 2 teenagers who were rescued from the waters that kelly's cove in san francisco. that's right off of ocean beach. fire crews say yesterday the 2.16 year-old swimmers. we're in those waters for at least 20 minutes. a rescue swimmer from the golden gate, national recreation area helped to pull them out. the teens were taken to the hospital and they are expected to be okay. big story that we're following this afternoon as that violent and chaotic scene that broke out over the weekend at lake berryessa. one man was shot and killed. several other people were stabbed kron 4

sarah stinson has the story. a large fight broke out between 2 groups that lake erie us a saturday obviously the shooting. >> it was stabbing and punches. so there pardons involving injury. >> napa county sheriff oscar ortiz describes the scene as chaotic at the oaks shores day use area. deputies responded to the west shore around 5.30 and found a man who had been shot administered cpr to attempt lifesaving measures. >> fortunately, they were unsuccessful. so that person was pronounced at the the sheriff says 2 people were also found with stab wounds and taken to the hospital during the fight. a man grabbed a gun from his car and shot and killed. a 39 year-old man from vallejo. the victim has been identified as andres fabienne sandoval garcia, the alleged shooter then drove off. the sheriff says when deputies found the man just north of the lake. >> he had stab wounds and was airlifted to a nearby

hospital. his condition is improving. >> as i mentioned, and we're hoping to be able to become the jail. the coming days, detectives spent hours at the scene talking with witnesses trying to figure out what led up to the fight. the sheriff says several agencies helped with the investigation, including the sonoma county sheriff's helicopter because don't get a lot of homicides in county >> we have a a protocol in place where we activate the major crimes task force, which is really detectives from every city in the county, every law enforcement agency and the district attorney's office and the highway patrol ortiz says this is the county's 4th homicide of the year. >> the sheriff says while there has been one arrest, there could be more. they're still talking with people who witnessed. >> the fight and he's hoping that anyone with video will send that to the sheriff's office. i'm sara stinson reporting in napa county kron. 4 news. free legal services now available for residents in the sandra now area in marine county. residents going to be helped with.

carry large amounts of cash with you. instead, use a secure payment method like paypal. all right. just a few months after democrats and republicans in the legislature announced bipartisan bills to address the issue of retail theft. now, leaders of each party are accusing the other of playing politics with that legislation. capitol correspondent eytan wallace shares republican say they're furious with these proposed changes to the bills. retail theft. >> it's an issue republicans and democrats in the legislature have long said they want to see addressed so much so that earlier this year, legislative leaders from both sides of the aisle announced a package of bills. they dubbed the bipartisan safer. california plan they believe will help tackle the issue. i'm on the bills in the package. one that would expand the california highway patrol property crimes task force and another that would increase penalties against retail thieves involved in the resale of stolen items. common sons,

effective lines that will blunt retail theft and local crime. but the bills do not propose to overturn prop. 47 passed by california voters in 2014, the law changed certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. while supporters have long argued the law will help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents to this day say it emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like retail theft, with little to no punishment, property. 7 has been an unmitigated disaster for public safety in california. >> and so until this legislature get serious about fixing prop 47, we're going to keep pushing for reforms. and that includes at the ballot box. and that's exactly what voters can expect this november after a group of district attorneys and others in public safety. >> say they've collected enough signatures to qualify a ballot measure asking voters to overturn prop 47 governor

gavin newsom does not want to see that happen. i don't think there's a need to happen on i have something on the ballot. doesn't actually achieve the goals that are i do something that can't be done legislatively. democratic legislative leaders, including senate president pro tempore mike mcguire agree with newsom and now they're proposing amendments to many of the retail bills, amendments that would make the bills take effect immediately this summer with the governor's signature, that would also cancel the bills of voters overturned. prop 47. it helps avoid having conflicting laws in policies regarding retail theft. >> so that we can be sure these are held accountable. but republicans believe the anti prop 47 ballot measure and the retail theft bills can both become they argue the democrat backed amendments are part of a larger plan to defeat the ballot measure. they're trying to deceive the voters into believing that there's a choice. there's not a choice we can do both. the cynical part is.

in california. in national news, florida is known as one of the shark attack capital of the world and a pair of doctors there are being hailed as heroes for saving the life of a teenage girl. so this incident happened friday at rosemary beach in walton county. 2.15, year-old girls in waist deep water when they say a shark attack them. one of them had minor injuries. the other suffered a deep wound in her leg. the 2 doctors were on vacation nearby with their families and they jumped right in to help and some other emt and trauma nurses also ran over one of the victims lost part of her leg and hand, but she is expected to survive. >> founder and saw severity we you know, anybody with any kind of 2. >> helped when it happens near you really? here's a little bit the check your priorities, i guess in life. sewer for sure.

association says that this is a reminder that wall a rodeo is very entertaining sport. it also can pose some risks. now to some dramatic video capturing a home exploding in arlington, virginia after a suspect barricaded himself inside of that house. you notice the christmas decorations there because this happened in december. police were called after resident fired shots from a flare gun at that property. they say he refused to come out of the gunshots for that heard from within the home after a 4 hour standoff, the house exploded 56 year old. james, known conspiracy theorists was then found dead. he is believed to have caused that explosion and no one else was seriously hurt. and the blast. tesla shareholders will vote this week on whether elon musk should be paid 50 billion

bakersfield, 70 in san diego. 74 in los angeles, where a little bit more mild. and that certainly at the coast as about 63 we take a look here, downtown san francisco. >> just 61 degrees as we do have some warmth out there. it's pretty nice around the bay, the right. 75 degrees in hayward, 80 in san jose. we've got some low 90's out a spot like antioch and some upper 80's up in the north bay. so nevado sitting about 88 degrees. but all of this is set to change as we get into tomorrow. we do have a heat advisory that's going to be kicking in tomorrow morning and goes throughout the day. so it's going to one day of some heat risk and the day after that is also going to be pretty warm. just not quite as warm. got me thinking about where we've gotten to this month so far and some of our inland spots. you can see it's been a bit of a seesaw, right? so it's been below average as we start the month been above average. then we went back below little bit. very should be when we're looking at our weekend. and then the question is what comes next? what we know the next 2 days will be very warm because of this high pressure that's going to nudge even closer to us and create a
