3:18 pm
tomorrow morning. let's talk about our forecast now in the heat. that's on the way here as we take this live look outside. the blue skies were enjoying here, looking out towards the bay bridge. meteorologist kyla grogan here now with details on how hot it's going to get. yeah, it's going to warm up tomorrow. next. 2 days are going to be a little bit toasty. but i have to say not quite as bad as we had last week, right? so let's talk about where the >> heat advisories are in. even the heat warnings and part of the state can see a good portion of california, you know, inland spots, at least. and that's the case here, too. for the most of us, it's going to be inland. you can see a little bit around the bay here in the north bay heading over to the east. they were for the most part. it is all of our inland valleys and our mountains and our hills in the north bay, east bay and south bay. so it doesn't include san francisco itself for the peninsula or many of our bayside or oceanside locations. you know, so the usual, right, her we get a little cooler at the coast. little cooler around the bay. but i want to talk about temperature trends are taking a live look from the east bay and let's use livermore's example where the average high is about 81 degrees. and today
3:19 pm
we're looking at for about 90, but tomorrow, 98, we're going to getting up there very close to triple-digit heat. you can see the pull back. just a touch as we get into wednesday. and then we have a really nice cool down as we hit thursday. but then it pops up a little bit more as we head towards the weekend, but certainly not the extreme heat that will be dealing with the next 2 days. and it's everything to do with this. high-pressure, this kind of shows you the temperatures, those brighter colors mean the warmer temperatures. and as this strengthens tuesday and wednesday that we're going to see a bulk of the heat and then we'll see a little bit of a dip down as we get into thursday. can kind of see it. there. and then a little bit of warm up again as we head towards the weekend all about that high pressure, creating a heat dome. you can see it right here in the pacific. we had this very pronounced clockwise flow, right? you see the wind is kind of going around it. and that creates that ridge that builds some of that warmth up notes and far away from us that were really nice today. 82 in san jose. you can see we're at 69 in oakland. 57 out of pacifica, downtown san francisco about 65. we've got some nice 70's 80's up in the north bay. so,
3:20 pm
you know, kind of a lovely day today. but if you look at where we're going tomorrow, you know, the 85 degrees in santa rosa turns into 99 tomorrow. and you can see 70's in san francisco, upper 90's in concord and san jose looking out for about 91 to not quite as extreme. so tomorrow and wednesday. just be prepared if you are inland to just deal with some of this heat, the best you can will cool it down on thursday. lots of sunshine as we head through the next 7 days. thank you so much. and some people are calling this olympic snub. indiana fever, rookie caitlin clark was left off of team usa's roster. >> for the upcoming summer games in paris, clark was the wnba is number one draft pick this year has become the most high-profile player in women's basketball after she broke several re%ords at the university of iowa. but here's what clark had to say about not making the team. >> honestly, no disappointment. think just gives you something. something to work that's a dream. you know, hopefully one that could be there things just a little
3:21 pm
more remember that? and, you know, hopefully for years for years comes back around. you know, i could be there. >> so clark says this motivates her to hopefully make the olympic team in the 2028 games. that will be in los angeles and her first season with the fever. clark averaging 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game. still ahead, some major cracks in the labor market. why some experts say it's even harder to find a job here in california. >> and any other state in the country? and working from home could be here to stay the upsides employees and upsides employees and employers for your is next.

police department, they did not make any arrests in the case at least so far. but of course, they have access to the video which >> by now, the entire country has seen. let me show you the video. this actually went down from saturday into sunday at around 2 o'clock in the morning. sideshows happen. but the fact that it happened all along the embarcadero just right down from the ferry building. so brazen, hundreds of people turned out. reportedly some people even got hotel rooms high enough or they can shoot down with that particular vantage point. you cars doing donuts along the embarcadero and a car was actually set on fire. we see people stopping on the car at certain times. it took the police department. we don't know how long, but eventually they did get their according to a police source. i spoke to he said that, you know, it is hard to get all the resources together to corral the side

show and the participants, but they got there. they dispersed hoping that it would end, but it did not end. in fact, it went to another neighborhood in san francisco. the mission district. same thing. police officers went to that particular location, tried to arrest and then they dispersed as well. in this particular case, not only was a car set on fire, so many people out there cheering using their cell phones to record the action. it look like 4th of july with the fireworks going off now, not only did it happen in san francisco, it also took place a couple of other side shows in oakland. so obviously this is an ongoing problem. hard for the police department to crack down. but it looks like in many of those cases, especially over the weekend, very organized. they all knew where to be. and when to get there. fairfield police now warning residents of a car sales scam after a person.

3:32 pm
retail theft. >> it's an issue republicans and democrats in the legislature have long said they want to see addressed so much so that earlier this year, legislative leaders from both sides of the aisle announced a package of bills. they dubbed the bipartisan safer. california plan they believe will help tackle the issue. i'm on the bills in the package. one that would expand the california highway patrol property crimes task force and another that would increase penalties against retail thieves involved in the resale of stolen items. common sons, effective lines that will blunt retail theft and local crime. but the bills do not propose to overturn prop. 47 passed by california voters in 2014, the law changed certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. while supporters have long argued the law would help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents to this day say it emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like
3:33 pm
retail theft, with little to no punishment, property. 7 has been an unmitigated disaster for public safety in california. >> and so until this legislature get serious about fixing prop 47, we're going to keep pushing for reforms. and that includes at the ballot box. and that's exactly what voters can expect this november after a group of district attorneys and others and public safety. >> say they've collected enough signatures to qualify a ballot measure asking voters to overturn prop 47 governor gavin newsom does not want to see that happen. i don't think there's a need to happen on i have something on the ballot. doesn't actually achieve the goals that are i do something that can't be done legislatively. democratic legislative leaders, including senate president pro tempore mike mcguire agree with newsom and now they're proposing amendments to many of the retail bills, amendments that would make the bills take effect immediately this summer with the governor's signature, but would also cancel the bills of voters overturned.
3:34 pm
prop 47. it helps avoid having conflicting laws and policies regarding retail theft. >> so that we can be sure these are held accountable. but republicans believe the anti prep 47 ballot measure and the retail theft bills can both become law. they argue the democrat backed amendments are part of a larger plan to defeat the ballot measure. they're trying to deceive the voters into believing that there's a choice. there's not a choice we can do both. the cynical part is. >> the democrats are putting this in place so that the ballot summary entitle can say >> that this initiative and does public safety bills passed in the legislature and make it look like we're undoing it and making it less safe. that's the sentence. that's the cynical part. here's what i have to say to that. >> hogwash. hogwash. >> we're putting emergency clause into these bills so they take effect immediately. who doesn't support that as a cynical attempt.
3:35 pm
>> to remove the voters right to have a say on this important issue. >> and as you can see, this is a passionate debate likely be front and center on tuesday when lawmakers take up the retail to up to bill's at the public safety committee reporting at the state capitol wallace kron. 4 news. >> the world health organization is issuing an urgent warning. some new warnings about extreme heat events affecting people of all ages. officials say pregnant people, newborns, children and seniors are already paying a high price for global warming. they say maternal and newborn health is especially impacted with more than 35% of pre-term births attributed to exposure to heat and pollutants. we're following breaking news now out of the north bay fire fighters from all different agencies are battling 3 grass fires right now near old adobe road. this is east of petaluma. this is time lapse video from an alert wildfire camera showing us the smoke from the fires rising there

pick up here as we take a live look at the embarcadero. you can see we're at 60 degrees in san francisco, but almost 70 over in oakland. some nice temperatures today, 2 in san jose. pretty warm in livermore, the east bay, the warmest spot i've got right now conquered about 88 saint rose. 82, half moon bay, a little cooler. 55. so for those who are headed in the work from home phase right now this afternoon, if you're walnut creek are looking out for those upper 80's, even potentially 9 degrees today. now, much warmer tomorrow. so you may not want to be outside tomorrow, but tonight we are going to get a little marine road layer that rolls in. that will also help with a firefighting efforts that are happening in the north bay because it looks like we'll make a little bit of an in road here with this moving inland as we get into the overnight hours. but notice how quickly wraps up tomorrow and kind out of here because we're going to see that marine layer start to compress that will allow us to warm up and we're pretty warm on wednesday as well. you can see the cool down coming on thursday. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk more about our 7 day forecast. thank you so much.
