>> from the bay area's local news station. we now with breaking news and the breaking news is in livermore. just covering how hot it's going to be. and now the worst has happened because a grass fire broke out were just talking about the dangers right along eastbound 5.80. let's get right to the scene. proffers michael thomas standing by with the update. michael. >> hey, good morning, everyone. actually just a cal fire as of right now, still undetermined. the length anywhere from 3 to 5 acres or so. but they did say normally when they have these type of issues, take a look. this grass fires, it could be from possibly vehicles or maybe a spark flew into the actual field. what will walk along this way? so you can see just exactly how far does our photographer, you know, if you

can walk with me so we can show our viewers just how big it as you can see right there. there's some fire officials from livermore pleasanton fire department. we've also got alameda county fire is being headed by cal fire. there are expected to be out here for at least the next 2 to 3 hours or so again, no word on the cause, but it is still under investigation. nobody has been hurt. none of the cattle that is in this area has been hurt. no injuries, but they will continue to be out here to put out some hotspots. he says if this was at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, it would have been much worse than traffic would have been impacted much, much more all have should give you a live look at what the traffic looks like this way. right now. they are down to a few lanes that are currently closed and we'll zoom in through there. you can see this is the altamont pass right here. there's 2 lanes are closed. however, back there little bit deeper in. it's only down to one lane that is open and 3 lanes are closed. so they continue to try put this fire completely out. it is not completely put

altamont pass into tracy again, lost seat just might being an alternate for you. crews are saying they're determined be there for the next hour. so it's going to be an issue for sure. other highways looking good. 90 minutes into the city right now. san mateo bridge around 13 number fell just short of 11 and the golden gate. 37 of the tolls. 21 minutes looks foggy there. but john, as you see, other parts of the bay are very hot. yes, heat today is something that a lot of us are going to be dealing with in today will easily be the warmest day of this week's forecast. >> some of us for this to and like livermore, unfortunately, getting up to 97 degrees close to 100 now looking outside closer to the coast coming like you saw at the golden gate rain that we do have the evidence of a little ocean cool. they're out there and it is a little breezy. this view is taken from the top of mount tam were exposed to that cool ocean winds. as of right now, livermore is really calm and not the hottest just yet. that's good news for the fire fight. but winds will pick up for the 2nd half of the day.

it's going to be a westerly wind and generally a cool. and this is actually good news for most of us as it's really going to bring us some overnight relief from that heat. as you can see here that 25 per our view of wind gusts, areas like the altamont pass are going to be in for some breezier conditions later on today. now where temperatures right now most of us are sitting in the 60's at this point, although we're starting to see more and more 70's popping up like in dublin livermore in concord. brett, what in vacaville already in the 80's right now? so we're wasting no time warming things up. highs in the upper 90's near triple digits later today with mid-eighties along the bay shore. back to you. all right. thanks. a lot 10. 0, 3. and there's a lot of questions this morning about the side show that broke out in san francisco and >> who's to blame for it was a lot of chaos that we saw over the weekend. the finger pointing is beginning with kron four's will tran in the city to explain will. >> it's one thing for the public to finger point. mayor london breed. it's another for

another law enforcement agency right here in san francisco to go after mayor london breed, blaming or for not doing more to make sure the streets of san francisco are not safe. now, take a look at your screen. we want to show you once again the video, a lot of people surprise shocked, amazed that this happened and on the streets of san francisco at around 02:00am on sunday. just the size. the scope. fireworks lit off more than 200 cars were along the embarcadero just right down the street from the ferry building. one car caught on fire. it looked like a hollywood set. instead, it was right here in san francisco. the san f ancisco police department came out there along with the fire department and according to chief scott, san francisco's police chief firefighters had laser pointers pointed at the firefighters as they were trying to respond. the crowd dispersed. >> only to re gather at another location in san

francisco. >> about an hour later, no arrests so far in this case. and we're talking more than 2 days since that happened. take a look at your screen. it's the san francisco sheriff's association going after mayor london breed. here's what they had to say about the situation. they said all mayor london breed has to do is increase our starting rate to attract more applicants. more deputies equals more public safety. london breed always says the same thing, but her actions like not increasing the starting pay for deputies to attract more applicants. show you otherwise. now mind you. it is the san francisco police department stopped a patrol. the streets of san francisco. yes, they get help from the sheriff's association, but it's the association that is criticizing mayor london breed. london breed says that sideshows, of course, are illegal and dangerous and she's confident in the police department to ultimately ultimately make arrest. chief

scott says, you know, basically take a deep breath that this is an ongoing investigation. they have a lot of people working on it. they have access to the viral video. they also have access to camera readers and they are very confident that ultimately they we'll make arrests in this case as well as impound cars. the sheriffs association, they've been going after mayor london breed for quite some time, hoping to hire more sheriff's deputies and the using this opportunity to criticize. 10. 0, 6, right now and more problems for alameda county district attorney pamela price. the group that wants to recall her now wants one of her employees to be fired all over comments he made at a rally. our dan kerman has a closer look. >> on saturday, opponents of alameda county district attorney pamela price had their recall campaign kickoff rally at the county courthouse in oakland. many attending their family members of murder victims. they were met by

supporters price among them, an employee of her office, desmond jeffries, who is listed as the da's director of recruitment and retention >> during that rally, jeffries posted a facebook live video where he frequently refers to recall lead or brenda grisham as gruesome and says the recall groups call for justice for victims is quote, all of side by a violent gang. i am the leader, but you're not going to stress picnic, not going disrespect them. families. you're not going to play the fact that they have lost their children and you get it facebook. the price recall campaign has now sent this letter to da price and the board of supervisors. >> calling for jefferies to be fired because the video, quote, contains remarks that are not only insensitive but also profoundly disrespectful to those who have suffered unimaginable loss. such behavior is completely unacceptable and undermines the trust and confidence. but the public places in the district attorney's office,

the da's office is supposed to be taking care of our children. >> so why are they throwing in our face? angel santos is a supporter of the recall effort and was at the rally saturday. >> her son was killed in 2019 and his case is still pending in alameda county. >> or an employee of kellogg price, too. basically town to us. was that. >> in what we're going through is not okay. >> kron 4 reached out to jefferies and the da but did not hear back a spokesperson for prices campaign had no comment on the letter. dan kerman kron. 4 news. it's 10, 0, 8. and take a look. you can see candles in the neighborhood in oakland where a teenager was shot and killed and that was one of 2 shootings that happened where 3 teenagers died yesterday morning family and friends gathered at the scene of the shooting here at filbert and 10th streets near martin luther king junior elementary school. that's where a 16 year-old died after being

shot. there. and then there was another shooting happened near the intersection international boulevard and 100nd avenue. and that's where 2 teens died because police found an 18 year-old had been shot. he was taken the hospital where he died and then a 17 year-old shot at that same location went to the hospital on their own and they ended up dying. >> loss of life is too much and especially the head. 3 young individuals getting the start life to have their lives taken from them such an early gauge is tragic. >> they say so far their investigation. it doesn't appear that those 2 shootings are connected. >> 10, 0, 9 is the time. and the breaking news this morning, president biden's son, hunter biden, has been convicted of all 3 felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver back in 2018, the jury said it found that hunter biden lied on a mandatory gun purchase form saying that he was not illegally using or addicted to

drugs at the time of purchase when, in fact, he admits he was those inside the courtroom say hunter biden stared straight ahead, showed little emotion as the verdict was read. he does face upwards of 25 years in prison in when he's sentenced, although he is a first-time offender and a lot of times judges are lenient on first time offender. so we'll see what the actual sentences hunter biden's legal troubles aren't over. however, you may know faces a trial in september right here in california on charges of failing to pay 1.4 million in taxes. well, those against the idea of bringing giant pandas to the san francisco zoo are going to be at city hall this morning. this all comes as the board of supervisors gets ready to vote on mayor london breed's plan to bring these pandas to the city. critics say that mismanagement, animal welfare concerns and public safety issues plagued the zoo for years. they also say the cost of these expensive pandas will in all likelihood exceed the 25 million dollars at the mayor wants to get from private donors.

>> it's 10, 14 and happening this week. it's the annual solano county fair. it kicks off on thursday and last through sunday. >> you can go there and get on one of the carnival rides like this girl is having a lot of fun. you can listen music enjoy food and of course, the animals. they have livestock competitions and each night on friday, saturday and sunday, they have a drone and pyro show that happens at 9.15. yeah, you know, it's it's good time. >> all right. it is 10 coming up on 10, 15 and a time to check the weather as we know. it is a hot day today, the hottest of the week. and what i'm thinking, though, is today and tomorrow might be real hot, but then we'll cool down time for that fair years. only get is the timing of these heat. little spicy actually been kind of convenient because, yeah, our weekend last weekend was nice and cool. and it does look like the latter half of this week into the upcoming weekend is

also going to be at least right where we should be for this time of year. this is your view at half moon bay this morning. lots of cloud cover up there above the coastline. we're definitely starting the day with some sunshine for inland areas, but not so much along the immediate coast. now today does come along with what is kind of just double locking offshore. wind can hardly even call it that today for the bay is actually just going to be really calm. there is a southwesterly wind around the central coast, but that does prevent a lot of ocean cool there from really reaching into the day dust that opportunity for the interior of the state to get as warm as we are going to be getting. we've got a very short-lived heat wave this time around. these heat advisories go into effect here in 45 minutes at 11:00am. and last until 08:00pm tonight for the interior of the bay. this is partly because as we move into the evening tonight, that cool ocean air will slip back in and that's actually going help to bring us a little bit of relief as we do move into our overnight hours after what will be a scorching hot day.

the city not going to be our hottest by any means, but warm by city standards. mid 70's in downtown with 60's and 70's out along the coastline. but a lot of 80's for the rest of the bay area along the bay shore and 90's for the interior. that's including the south bay san jose at 92 degrees today. looking at the east bay. we've got livermore concord in pittsburgh, some of our hottest spots at 97. well, oakland at 80 degrees for your high upper 70's in berkeley enrichment and are very hottest spot vacaville all the way up to 99 degrees this afternoon. santa rosa through sandra fell in the low 90's. back to you. >> thanks a lot, 10, 16 and there's a theater that supposed to open a show on friday in the bay area, but they don't have any props or anything. lost it all in a grass fire. take a look at what's left of the warehouse that belongs to the pittsburgh theater company, the storage, which is at john henry johnson parkway. there was shelves full of props, costumes and

sets dating back to 1979 and now it's. ashes. this fire broke out sunday on a hill nearby and a group of 55 acres. and it burned the storage facility. so while there firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, the company's former board member is trying to deal with the devastation. >> since 1974, besides working as a teacher. this was part of my life. i mean, i i've been in so many of the shows and been on the board. so many things with our group that. it's just it's just heartbreaking. >> the fair the show is titled the sunshine boys. and as for the show on friday night, we don't know what the actors are going to do far as props go. but i know he said that his church is going to donate the seats people to watch. >> see what they do. meanwhile, in the east bay, we know 2 people are actually the hospital now after their apartment caught fire. yeah, this happened in pittsburgh crawfords charles clifford has that story.

>> well, here in pittsburgh on monday morning, a 2 alarm fire sent a column of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles and 2 people were sent to the hospital just after 8 monday morning. firefighters responded here to the pittsburgh park apartments along crestview drive on reports of a structure fire. >> crews arriving on scene found this 2 story apartment burning resident on the ground floor was able to get out. but 2 people, a 15 year-old girl and adult men were trapped on the second floor. neighbors could see them in a window. fire crews entered the building using ladders and were able to get them out. the mail was brought down. a lot of that you see behind me with the parkers and the juvenile was brought downstairs. both were unconscious when they came out, our paramedics went to work and we have a local looks like they're doing pretty well. they're going to critical. but they're doing the fire response was upgraded to a second alarm but only took crews about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. >> crews were also able to keep the fire from spreading to other apartments. although the adjoining unit did suffer

some minor damage. it's believed the fire started on the first floor. but the exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation. in pittsburgh, charles clifford kron, 4 news. >> as you can see here, pro palestinian demonstrators faced off with police in san francisco. this is video from the citizen app showing the scene here outside the city's federal building yesterday afternoon. protesters demand an end to the ongoing war inside the building. lawyers were arguing for judicial oversight of u.s. foreign policy and plaintiffs were accusing president biden of giving israel too much support. >> every single member of my family at this point has either been. what is being star has been displaced and all of them have been dispossessed. everything. well, meaning and value to that. in the most, deliver it and well documented fashion.

>> justices have been given a time frame for when they might make a decision in this case. meanwhile, global pressure is mounting for israel and hamas to accept a cease-fire plan backed by both president biden and the u n that plan includes the release of israeli hostages and some palestinian prisoners, a cease-fire and a full military withdrawal along with the rebuilding of gaza. backed by the u.s. the eu and other agencies around the world. >> it's 10, 20 and we have a new video where there is a very frustrated nancy pelosi in a car telling her chief of staff she and the federal government should have been better prepared for the january 6 attack on the capitol. take a listen. >> national guard there to begin with. fact that they have sufficient not question of how that. they do now. cleary didn't started on it. >> that clip was filmed on

january 6th by pelosi's daughter as the capitol riots were happening. and you can hear in her voice, the frustration about and national guard was not being deployed. n rmally the governor of the state has the power to mobilize that state's national guard. but in washington, d.c., that power lies with the president. so it was. and president trump's control congressional testimony later revealed that former president trump refused, however, to activate the guard for several hours, despite pleas from lawmakers, advisors and even family members to act sooner. >> well, happening today, pg and e was going to be upgrading power lines and poles and other technology in central sausalito. so keep an eye out for all that work pg e says it's going to last through june. 25th. it is phase 4 in an overall upgrade keep an eye out. meanwhile, happening right now, chrysler is recalling more than 200,000 of its 2022. dodge durango, suvs and ram trucks. the

>> 10 25 is the time and a new study this morning says that thousands of california college students are eligible for food stamps, but they're not signed up to receive them. the report by the california policy lab found that only 93,000 uc and community college students used calfresh benefits in 2019, even though there were more than 235,000 students in the state that qualified to receive that benefit. experts say the shows that schools need to do more work to improve student access to applying for these benefits. the study states. 22% of bay area you see in community college, students qualify for calfresh benefits >> a ucf s f study says that. >> the worship feel after you get your covid shot, the better your chances are of not getting a covid infection. apparently when you get the shot, if you get symptoms of

headache, nausea, muscle pain that actually indicates that you have a robust immune response. researchers found that those people who got 7 or more of the symptoms after they got their covid shot had nearly double the antibody levels of those who didn't have symptoms. the cdc recommends that everybody 6 months and older should get an updated vaccine. the fda is launching task force to combat the sale of illicit e cigarettes. the task force is aimed at tracking down and taking down the sale and distribution of illegal vaping products, especially the stuff that aim aims to a hook. younger people. he effort comes because the fda just issued more than 1100 warning letters to companies that make and distribute and sell unauthorized tobacco products to date. the fda has only authorized the sale of 23 tobacco flavored e-cigarette products. >> we're going to take a break or 10. 27 up next, though, more on the hot temperatures today and the weather warnings

>> it is 10 29. and the breaking news is the fire that broke out this morning in livermore and 23 acres in size. just got that confirmed and it shut down eastbound lanes of 5.80, as firefighters are working to put out hot spots. we don't have it fully contained. just yeah. yeah. kron four's michael thomas is live at the scene. and so he has the very latest and then also reyna harvey is in the traffic center, keeping us updated on the traffic. let's go to michael first. >> this fire he's bound 5.80, has been burning for a few hours. take a look at got here around 8 o'clock this morning. it is not under control, but

it is contained when it comes to the amount of fire officials were talking about, too. so doesn't they're both firefighters from livermore, pleasanton fire department cal fire and alameda county. the cause is still under investigation. officials say they don't have an exact length of the fire, but they're looking at anywhere from 3 to 5 acres or so. again, it is contained at the moment. you can see new to see those hot spots and there are firefighters spread out throughout the entire few acres that have burned. and while there is no cause quite yet, it is very hot out here. and it also is very windy. as of now, there are no injuries to be reported. officials say they will continue to be here to take out those hot so as we get more information from them will continue be one michael thomas will send it back to you live studio. >> all right. well, that was michael thomas. again, he just spoke with cal fire, by the way, and they say they're looking into the possibility that a car backfired and they maybe that's what caused the

grass fire this morning. they say they're still early on in their investigation, but that's what they're thinking at the moment. >> and now let's continue our team coverage of over to rain in the traffic center and see what's going on. ripple effects of the commute yeah, we're certainly seeing those ripple effects. if you are trying to find a way around say lost seat this road, a good alternate runs just adjacent as you travel along the altamont pass there. we do know that 2 lanes are open 5, 80 eastbound at northland road. if you are traveling, it got those remainder roads close. and if you are on the westbound side there, you're wondering probably live nhat bag of his longer than the eastbound side. so lot of folks traveling that way and they're slowing down to look at the fire there. so again, eastbound 5.80, northland road loss seek this road. a good alternate traveling into the city right now on other bridges, 60 minute ride. things are busy at the start of the morning. now we're starting to see things level out except for that area. love it. 13 minutes on the san mateo bridge. richmond, sandra fell back down 9 and the

golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls 20 minutes, john is supposed to be a hot one for a lot of those crews out there working trying to get the fire out. yeah, livermore is going to be one of her hottest spots today getting up to 97 degrees. now. >> as of right now, winds are calm around the altamonte, which is good news as we continue to see further contain meant of that fire there along the altamont pass. getting a look outside at where winds will be later on today. we do see wind gusts picking up from the west and pushing some ocean cool there on in towards the evening. and that will result in winds picking up a little bit later on high as 25 miles per hour around the altamont pass. but as for now, things are calm as crews looked like they are getting the upper hand. so we're clear skies for most of the bay little cloud cover towards the coastline. temperatures wasting no time climbing livermore. you're at 74. while brentwood and fairfield and vacaville all up into the 80's already vacaville at eighty-four degrees. you'll be or how to spot later today. getting up

to 99 degrees so close to the triple digits, inland areas right next to 100 degrees while bayshore cities in the 80's. some 60's and 70's at the coast. back to you. >> thanks a lot, john. it's 10 33 and san jose's school district is facing some harsh criticism this morning. it's coming from a new report by the santa clara county civil grand jury, which says district leadership has failed to serve. the students were dead moment has the story. well, they report commissioned by the santa clara county civil grand jury is more than 40 pages long and says that it stemmed from complaints within the district. many of the issues that highlights. >> go back to leadership here at the district i think do have enough time. pull special i as a parent with san jose unified his 9 year-old son in elementary student. he says the school district has struggle to care for his son who is autistic, they have rely. >> little more more care about space. it. specifically, which

is why antonio wasn't surprised when we told him a new report from the santa clara county civil grand jury says one of the bay area's largest school district has a glaring issue with leadership. >> the highlight issues are as follows. a high turnover and principals and assistant principals, a lack in addressing the mental health crisis, a lack planning for things such as a school shooting, which the report says put students at risk and problematic hiring practices. the grand jury did 80 interviews around the district and found that several leaders in the district were insensitive towards the concerns of parents and teachers. it also found that the district office lower out and allowed verbally abusive behavior. superintendent nancy obama sent a statement to kron 4 news where she calls the report misleading and inaccurate. she goes on to say, quote, san jose unified school district will use our required response as an opportunity to reflect on the areas of potential growth. some of the report's recommendations include getting a 3rd party assessment to investigate these issues.

further. and for parents like antonio, you want more help for your child? yeah, his family is taking matters into its own hands. his wife attending a special education training at the just you know that things up in school. so what you want to make sure >> maybe okay. that happen so reporting in san jose jack moment. kron 4 news. happening today. a group with the north oakland community charter school is going to be announcing a lawsuit against the oakland unified school district. >> this all comes after the board of education voted to revoke the public charter schools petition, which will cause the school to close on june 30th. now the school says the vote was made without due process. and so they're asking the community for support as they try to keep the school open. and though ccs has been serving low-income students of color for the past. 23 years. and the group will announce this lawsuit in front of north oakland community charter school on 42nd street in

oakland 11 o'clock this morning. police in san francisco are looking for the driver who hit and killed a man in bernal heights. it happened early yesterday morning, right near mission and 30th officers say the man was taken to the hospital where he eventually died. >> time now 7.36, and just a few months after democrats and republicans in the legislature announced bipartisan bills to address the problem of retail, seth leaders in both parties are now accusing each other of playing politics. yeah. in fact, our capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a closer look at what's going on. retail theft. it's an issue republicans and democrats in the legislature have long said they want to see addressed so much so that earlier this year, legislative leaders from both sides of the aisle announced a package of bills. they dubbed the bipartisan safer. california plan they believe will help tackle the issue. >> among the bills in the package, one that would expand the california highway patrol property crimes task force and another that would increase

penalties against retail thieves involved in the resale of stolen items. common sons, effective that will blunt retail theft and local crime. but the bills do not propose to overturn prop. 47 passed by california voters in 2014, the law changed certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft. when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. while supporters have long argued the law will help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents to this day say it emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like retail theft, with little to no punishment, property. 7 has been an unmitigated disaster for public safety in california. and so until this legislature get serious about fixing prop 47. >> we're going to keep pushing for reforms. and that includes at the ballot box. and that's exactly what voters can expect this november after a group of district attorneys and others and public safety say they've

fires. actually, there's a firefighter that's in the hospital this morning. he was injured in the corral fire last weekend see his friends say he suffered some severe burns. he's going to need several surgeries. and crawford's theresa has the story. >> and that the fire has burned over flown out to santa clara medical center. >> that's brian saint townie communications director with alameda county fire department. he is now on a journey to thank the community for coming out in support of brandon franco. franco shown here with his wife and child was out fighting the corral fire that erupted june first near tracy with ferocious winds. the blaze cut through grass quickly. crews ultimately did get the upper hand on the blaze. but franco is still in the hospital and he suffered 3rd degree burns on his arm is back. >> and he's just such an amazing firefighter. >> sent tony says that franco has already had surgery and we'll need more specialized care for his burns can and visit him this morning.
