>> our top story this half-hour, a former employee of the alameda county district attorney's office has filed a lawsuit against da pamela price in the county alleging racial discrimination, wrongful termination and retaliation. now this comes as price faces a recall election this november. >> our kron dan kerman has details. >> more trouble for alameda county district attorney pamela price. now she and the county are being sued by a former employee patti lee, who served as the da's public information. officer from june to december of last year alleges racial discrimination, wrongful termination and retaliation was going on in the da's office in alameda county. something that should never be taking place anywhere in district attorney office or in any public >> institution. the lawsuit stems from a pamela price news conference on november. 29th of last year. >> when a reporter from the berkeley scanner was refused entrance that led to a flurry

of california public records act or cpra requests requiring the office to turn over records relating to that incident. lee was the one required together that material. but the lawsuit says when she tried to the alameda county district attorney chose instead to hide elite and change the records when she refused to sign off on those records. the lawsuit says lee was fired, you know, do those sort of things. that's not your job. you're there to fight crime. and finding price is serious business. >> producing documents. wherever the chips may fall. whatever they say, whatever you did wrong, you let them out. that's we all make mistakes. but when you try to cover it up and you ask somebody who's public informational, sir. to join in the coverup and she refuses and find her. that's not what we're about. >> attorney nick roxboro says the lawsuit also alleges racial discrimination. his client lee, who is asian american, maintains that price told her that her enemies with the media and the asians. in a

statement, police said i have never been subjected to such humiliating and bullying behavior in the workplace. it is unacceptable in any professional environment. but when the perpetrator is a public official who claims to be a civil rights advocate. it is unconscionable that just major issues about basically disagreeing with people just because of the race. and so that that's permeated out office. i understand for to, you know, take the depositions the discovery time cover in a statement, the da's office said it cannot comment on litigation on personnel matters. dan kerman kron. 4 news happening right now. oakland city leaders are talking about whether letter community group buyout half of the coliseum. >> taking a live look right now at the meeting in progress at the proposal is approved the african american sports and entertainment group would pay the city more than 100 million dollars for 50%

stake in the property. the group has plans to convert the coliseum into affordable housing. plus, a soccer stadium, commercial space. a lot more. oakland officials previously said that the deal would represent the largest transfer of public land to african americans in the city's history. >> 4, is your local election headquarters and it has been about 10 years since california voters approved prop 47. it's a law supporters say resulted in criminal justice reform. but opponents blame the thing for ramp%nt retail theft and now voters. we'll get to decide again in the fall. kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace has the story. >> applause and celebration from these organizers after their proposed ballot measure known as the homelessness, drug addiction and debt reduction act seeking a change prop. 47 officially qualified for the november ballot. >> huge difference in california will make california. it's a greg totten

helped author the newly qualified initiative he believes prop 47 made the state less safe by changing certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. >> including theft when the items stolen are valued at less than $950 prof. 47 supporters say it reduced the prison population and create a criminal justice reform. but opponents say it emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like retail theft, with little to no punishment. >> most citizens have seen someone going to a store and steal. most citizens are encountering locked up products and a struggling with that on a daily basis. property 7 bears a big share of the responsibility for those problems we want to fix. that's why he says his initiative to reform prop. 47 includes an option to classify repeated theft. >> as a felony, if someone is found to have taken part in theft after 2 prior theft convictions, the initiative would also increase penalties for thieves found to have caused at least $50,000 in losses. and it would combine the values of items stolen by the same person which could lead to increased to jail

time. >> bottom line, we want change. we demand change. >> the measure would also add fentanyl to the list of hard drugs like heroin and cocaine. it would enable stricter penalties for fentanyl dealers, something fresno mother, pamela smith says is crucial. her son jackson died of fentanyl poisoning 8 years ago. this situation been resolved 10 years ago. >> my child along with so many would be alive today. it all comes as the legislature has been working on its own package of public safety bills that do not touch prop 47 but due target organized retail theft. the legislation was previously supported by democrats and republicans. but this week, republicans threatened to pull their support for the legislation after democratic leaders added amendments that would cancel some of the retail theft bills. >> if voters approve the newly qualified bella measure to reform prop 47 measure, democrats say conflicts with

their bills. the combination of those 2, it's sort of. >> supercharging. >> this whole process and resulting and i think moving back to a period where we're going to have much more incarceration are. was never intended to be stacked on top of a one-sided ballot measure. but those here do not see it that way. they believe democrats are adding the amendments to confuse voters and take down the newly qualified initiative. please stop playing political games. >> and prioritize the safety of our communities. are you confident this can yes, absolutely. >> and new wednesday state senator maria alvarado gayle is the first democratic lawmaker to announce he's opposed to the amendments and will support the ballot initiative reporting at the state capitol. eytan wallace kron. 4 news. >> if we didn't have confidence before we do now, okay, they could be a

different story. me standing here crying talking to you. >> gatos homeowner. they're being applauded for protecting homes in his neighborhood. firefighters say that he created defensible space around his home in the mountain, laurel lane neighborhood. firefighters say this was really helpful in defending homes when a wildfire broke out last month. >> it's important that we pay attention to those matters. okay. because usually people just kind of tall. so don't pay attention to who someone to tell me what i should do about my property. but the most important thing is you have a chance to save yourself and save your neighbors without that defensible space. >> that these did prior to this fire. the outcome could have been very different. >> santa clara fire has a defensible space program in place during wildfire season, sending out more than 11,000 letters this year encouraging

residents to be proactive and create that defensible space around their homes. with that, let's get a check of the weather with art. >> a pretty wild weather around the country today. the king, course, we cool things down outside for us. the fog low clouds moving back onshore. temperatures really taken a hit. other parts of the country. while this is the time of year, you start to talk about the tropical weather picking up. nothing really well organized a boy. it was just coming down in florida today. in fact, in the tampa area, they had 8 inches of rain in 3 hours. can even imagine that they continue to see that rain moving across much of southern florida. you can expect flooding flash flooding continuing there as those storms rolling on through. and they're not done just yet. they've got a ways to go. i think may be breaking up a little bit tonight, but early kind of sitting in a train of moisture right now. so we've got some areas now you see just to the north, flood watches continue to fort myers. as you get to naples. we're talking about flood warning in effect those places. they just can't handle all that water. many cars getting trapped in some of the flooding as well. further

south, you see some stronger storms toward key largo. very heavy storms moving through right now, just south of miami as well. flood advisories posted all really across the southern half. a florida more rain expected on the way. here's the very latest forecast model. you can see again around much of the u.s. not so bad. you get to florida, though. you see that train of moisture. nothing really well organized just the way it's set up right now. you're seeing a kind of a jet rolling on through and bringing with it that rain in that area that's going to be heavy again. it looks like by tomorrow looks like more flooding, a real possibility. now around much united states. it is starting to look a whole lot like summer out there. see some hot temperatures developing much to the south. 94 degrees in dallas for tomorrow about 99 in wichita, about 83 in boston about this. you get to the deserts. 109 degrees in phoenix. 106, in las vegas. much more comfortable in san francisco about 60 degrees. all right, lawrence. well, this week, kron 4 is focusing on food banks that give back to our communities. and food is medicine. >> it's a concept behind this

special program, feeding families in the north bay, the food bank of contra costa and solano counties operates the mobile food pharmacy. and ahead of our parent company nexstar's founder's day of caring this week. kron four's philippe djegal reports from fairfield where this thing makes a stop every week. >> lifeline for dietary restricted patients whose primary care is with solano county clinics are the food bank of contra costa and solano is mobile pharmacy. bring security to people living food, insecure. we stopped by a distribution at solano county, health and social services in fairfield a big sell since the county partnered with the food bank back in 2018 to launch the pilot program. the mobile food pharmacy has become a staple continuously station that family health services offices in vallejo, fairfield and vacaville. may the closer where they might be on medication. >> the people, you know, social services, they're

fremont 70 in hayward. you've got some 80 degrees in concord. you get to a vacaville still, 86 a warm in spots, but started kerry with a more low clouds and fog are going to see more of that on the way as that fog going to surge. well onshore overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. so see that fog early on and it will again to its. we're cooling down the temperatures 50's 60's in the san francisco tomorrow. cool out toward the beaches. i think the fog lingering along the coastline all day long inside the bay of high more sunshine, but much milder as we head around the bay area tomorrow, warm in the south bay. you see those numbers in the 70's and the 80's places. well inland, right around average for this time of year, probably low 80's in some 70's kicking up in some place like walnut creek in about 70 degrees in pittsburgh. if the idea these temperatures are much cooler than what we've seen over the past couple of days and well tomorrow, probably cool things do n, warming up just a little bit on friday as we head in toward father's day weekend. nice weather ahead. looks like temperatures cooling off may be little breezy on sunday thank you, larry. it's coming up. you've got mail.
