9:01 am
outside at a lot of fog still hanging out there above the east bay. this is your view from the berkeley hills right here and still a little socked in the good news is is that that wind is penetrating a little further inland and that's cooling all of us down into the 80's at the very warmest. the bad news is is for those of us along the coastline, it is going to be a little blustery. so just make sure you've got that extra layer on. if you're heading out closer to the water, 50's to 60's for your current temperatures, staying really cool this morning. you can blame a lot of that on that low stratus that blanket hanging out just above us later today as more of that clears out, daytime highs will get comfortably into the 70's to 80's under mostly sunny skies rain. all right, john, thank you for that. well, we've made really good time. >> on our bridges this morning, haven't seen any major delays pop up a bridge in the 9 o'clock hour. 15 minutes. we pretty much been under 20 for most of the morning. there. 15 minutes on the san mateo bridge, which or fell down back to 8 golden gate bridge. looking good around. 21 for a large portion
9:02 am
of the morning. we're tracking a fatal accident along fine. a little more that just cleared until drive towns of already gone down on the altamont pass. looking at 26 minute ride livermore into dublin darya. james, back to you. thank you, reyna. and we've had team coverage of that fatal crash or rain admin covering at west bound 5.80, in livermore. >> several and causing a big we had a lot of lanes closed for a time, but kron four's will tran who's been following the progress all morning long. and joining us with the good news of the reopening will. >> if you are leaving tracy at this time, you dodged a major bullet because all lanes are rolling right now. they actually open up all lanes at around 8.15, this morning, but it was backed up from livermore all the way to tracy. so we are talking miles for hours. this being pretty much the gateway from tracy into livermore and to the rest of the bay area and they need
9:03 am
this. but unfortunately, it was shut down for quite some time because of a motorcyclist who was killed along west bound 5.80. let me show you the video. here's the motorcycle. they removed it from the scene at around 7.45. in the morning. however, 2 hours before that at around 5.40, in the morning, according to the chp motorcyclists, his name not be released to the public at this time described to be in his 40's was going anywhere between 8100 miles per hour. lost control of his motorcycle clipped a big rig. he fell off of the motorcycle. then another big rig comes along, runs over him and unfortunately kills him on the scene. the big rig drivers, they are cooperating with the chp. it appears that they were just minding their business when all of a sudden. things went terrible at 5.40, this morning at the height of the
9:04 am
morning commute course. chp came out that shut down the scene. take measurements, talk to witnesses, which is why it was so slow all morning. and a lot of people thought that they could avoid this area by taking the streets of livermore itself. but then those streets became back to. so it was a nightmare for most of the morning commute. but as you can clearly see now it is rolling. i'm sure it's still backed up a little bit into tracy. it's going to take some time for all of this to clear out. but at least all lanes are this morning at the height of the morning commute, this being the gateway into livermore, dublin and obviously the san mateo bridge and the rest of the bay area pretty much came to a standstill. >> all right. thanks for that update. will 904 is the time we have some breaking news to share with you this morning. the u.s. supreme court has unanimously agreed to allow access to a medication that's been used for nearly
9:05 am
two-thirds of all abortions in the u.s. last year. it's the court's first abortion decision since the conservative justices overturn roe v wade 2 years ago. the justices today ruled that abortion opponents lacked the legal right to sue over the food and drug administration's approval of the medication. mifepristone the case had threatened to restrict access to mifepristone across the country, including in states where abortion is still legal. more than 6 million people. have pressed on in the past? 24 years safely. >> donald forbes com for your local election headquarters in the 5 candidates running for san francisco mayor are starting to reveal what they think is wrong and what they'd like to do with the city. yeah, they met and faced off last night to debate the issues in kron 4. sarah stinson was there. >> 5 candidates took to the stage here at sydney, goldstein, theater and hayes valley to duke it out with one another and convince voters why they would make the best. next. mayor of san francisco tickets sold out for the first

9:07 am
treating people. there is no other mayor in any major city in this country that is doing what i am doing with the various services that we are doing in order to help combat this issue. and we are seeing improvements in our city walk the beat with the captain of the tender line the other day. and he said a lot of our resources are going into the downtown. >> if you want to stop the drug trade, you've got to get the officers on the street. you have to address a drug dealer. candidates also described how they would make city streets safer for visitors and residents. my plan for public safety. >> i believe we need new police chief. i believe we need to restore the budget of our police department inside of city hall are seeing one of the lowest crime rates we've seen in 10 years and that crime rate is continuing to trend to this very day, including. >> a 50% reduction right here today in car break-ins. we a fully staffed police department. most of the officers in my district know the shopkeepers in the residents on their beats many of them by name. doesn't just keep people safe. it makes them feel safe. but what's
9:08 am
been missing has been the leadership and the investment to recruit. if you don't invest in the recruitment budget, you can't go out and get officers and all the other public safety personnel that we need. so how did voters feel after the debate tonight? >> a lot because i really had no idea who i was going to vote for. so it helped a lot in my opinion, might change tonight. kind of staff i think it is. he was pretty solid guy. but aaron peskin did pretty well. >> and in but i still like london i'm sarah stinson reporting in san francisco kron. 4 news and all 5 candidates have done again for their next debate. that's going to be monday night. >> and it's moderated by kron four's own to recess stasio. so you put on by the francisco democratic county central committee. it will be at 7.30, at the university of california college of law in san francisco. free and open to the public. and you can watch it for free as we will be streaming it live on kron-on.

9:11 am
leading to a flurry of public records request and lee was required to turn over records related to the incident. but she claims that price chose to hide, delete and change them. and when we refused to sign off on that, the lawsuit says she was fired. notley is suing price for racial discrimination. wrongful termination and retaliation. >> you know, do those sort of things. that's not your job. you're there to fight crime in finding price is serious business. producing documents. wherever the chips may fall. whatever they say, whatever you did wrong, you let them out. that's we all make mistakes. but when you try to cover it up and you ask somebody who's public informational, sir. to join in the coverup and she refuses and find her. that's not what we're about. >> the da's office says it cannot comment on ledges are litigation involving personnel matters. >> time now is 9.11, and >> still ahead on kron 4 morning news, oakland police bay, a number of arrests for

9:13 am
9:14 am
>> 9.13, right now. and we are really enjoying today's vibe. like cooler. sunny, going to be great. i love how it's trending cooler and john, out of those 190 that was too hot. that one day there was like a right. they fully this is just a one-day event this week and we've really cool things off since then for sure. you're look at downtown san francisco. still a little bit of cloud cover and that wind is certainly still present.
9:15 am
that is responsible for really cooling us down. take a look at that. very dense marine layer offshore right now that blanket of cloud cover has pushed in over the bay itself while areas like san jose and the in the east, they're pretty sunny, not just yet for a lot of the north bay north of bayshore winds pushing in from the coastline will continue all day long today. so if you noticed it was a little breezy yesterday, very likely to see much the same today. all those heat advisories are gone for at least northern california as winds do continue to cool areas off further and further inland. and our biggest drop in temperatures from yesterday was actually going to be for our inland areas. we're spots like san francisco, pretty much the same 50's to 60's staying put at this point. same for the immediate coastline. lot of 60's to 70's on the bay from brisbane to burlingame 70's from foster city down through mountain view and some 80's in the south bay, san jose, very similar to yesterday at 82. well, look at dublin down to
9:16 am
76 degrees. walnut creek at 77 today, oakland, up to richmond. you'll be in the 60's with delay. how a comfortable 70 antioch down from yesterday's 90's to 85 today. let's look ahead to tomorrow's temperatures will briefly rebound a little bit. we'll get some increased sunshine, calmer winds and that's inland areas will see near 90 degree highs. after that, we level out and stay pretty level. the rest of the forecast into next week. 70's to 80's all around right now. all right, john, thank you for little congested in the south bay. >> you're traveling along one right now, it's about 50 minutes. 85 to menlo park 2, 80 82 better options. as of right now, our bridges look great. all of them. bay bridge. 13 minutes, 70 over just sort of 14. maybe you're taking the rich december fell or golden gate, not seeing any major issues along there. so ended on a piece about 34 minutes. you decide whether to take 5. 88 82 oakland, both in the resumes. back to you. time to talk winners and losers with our financial expert rob
9:17 am
black. good morning, rob. >> warning area, how are we doing in the markets? >> the nasdaq's up 17% for the year. s p 500 up 14%. so we're taking a little bit of a pause day yesterday we saw cpi, consumer prices. they're they weren't hot inflation or moderate. and today we saw ppi producer prices down two-tenths of percent. so we're looking for an interest rate cut later this year. that will help the markets. and you've answered a question for me because i read the notes. >> that all women were menopause have? is it hot in here or is it me? it turns out that when i was a kid, i didn't get as hot now i do. and it's the world. >> impasse has a bad pr agent because it's it's much more complicated for my spouse. and i thought it was going to yeah, but cooling costs. we have 6 heat waves now per year in the united states are in the middle of one right now. john's better at handling that to me. but the average
9:18 am
electricity bill monthly is now $718 up 8% year over year. so we used to have to heat waves in the 1960's and now 60 years later, we're having 6 per year. so i'm getting more costs in more hot in the united states. well, starbucks has a brilliant idea. i was just thinking, you know, i'm past the little kid age like your wife is, you know, we don't have real little ones. >> but i know they have like a value meal or something. they need a happy meal for kids. so mommy could going to get the coffee and like. i don't know something more kids, but i know they they're not there yet. >> they need a alcohol for afternoon runs from daddy. whole nother issue starts doing something very mcdonald's. and it's kind of beneath them. they're doing kind of like a value meal where you go in, you get a sandwich and a coffee or tea 5 or $6. the houston never bundle things together, but now they're trying to show some value and trying to get your burger king mcdonald's,
9:19 am
wendy's have been doing this for years using its been them. you're saying it's too fast food. the feeling is that you're. >> thank that's what i was reading. and again, i'm not one to judge >> you know, starbucks has been known as 5 bucks. you know, it's not considered cheating cache perform. so looking for value at starbucks seems kind of an odd thing to okay. well, they're trying to bring in. >> how about, you know, and have seen this people shop online now and they buy stuff through instagram. i-10 news, amazon because it's easier to return. you know, i'm guilty of but i don't know how easy it is. social media, but it is easy to push the button by what looks so good with some influencer. >> yeah. and this just comes back to what you should do if you are in this possessions. wait one day before you buy, seems don't want it. 3 in 4 purchases on social media are considered unnecessary purchases by the buyer. the moment that they do it all and 63% regret the my kids come

home and they have kid has socks or shoes and therein was hired by caught mayor is inspired by kanye. a okay? i socks or shoes. you know, on the last how long one week 6. but a good look soon. cool at the time. and then what do you do with them? donate trash >> all all right. now when it comes to families, spending money on food, you have kind of a surprising trend that you said a lot of people are spending more money now on the going out, food, then not food at home. >> we spent about 1.1 trillion eating out as a nation. daria it's a hot sector business. lisa's account for about 19% are restaurants growing 53% of americans eat away from every meal at this point in time. that's up from 41% in 1997. so it's a trend. it's trend. a lot of things are driving and i'm sure the sweater to hit. want make convenience consumption. that's things that are already premade. just
9:21 am
to earn or families to honor households. the foodie i saw a couple weeks ago and upon a rock. and the foodie chap. i mean, we love good food in this country. higher incomes are all contributing to eating out more than cheap, daria. so it is a luxury splurge. when i was in my 20's, i dated a girl who is like when i was a little girl. i wanted to date 5 guys and go out to dinner five-night to bring home a doggy back every single night. that was her dream was eating out and now we're living her dream. i just really something that we can. reuse member. i got you. those little sauce dippers. i still have them ih my car for you jump right by size. she was small. you give me the kid stock show. >> give you those such tempers for your car. all right. before we go, let's talk say because right now she's in the uk and she is literally causing earthquakes dating. yeah, 4 miles away could feel the vibrations of the concerts. there are some really fun stuff. she's got 8
9:22 am
shows coming up in london. >> they figured out that the amount of energy used, dancing her concerts. this is scotland, edinburgh, kind of thing. yeah, because about $106,000 of energy per night, if they can harness it, we can't. but if they could. so she just started her whole uk thing. that should be about 15 show. she could bring in 1.2 billion. get this. she's only 8 months into this 21 month to it's already the top tour of all time beating elton john handily. she's put over a billion 8 months. he pulled in 939 million over 5 years. so we've got a lot more take a common. interesting at a number or a medical yeah, i taste trails. got 40 local businesses come up with cocktails with pastries, with activities. cities are really smart. and you could. gmo should cancel concert. the left going treatment. you know what i did? i looked into the tickets. just kind of like it's a destination thing.
9:23 am
>> i'm a friend of mine is skipping father's day weekend flying to liverpool to watch taylor this weekend. i i mean, it does become a destination thing. that's why she's moving economies. >> she's moving economy night. i it's perhaps your you it's impressive in the summer where people are pulling back. they're still willing to splurge on all right. thanks. i i agree with those expenditures. i think you're few doors >> if you want to reach you can e-mail him. >> reach him x or facebook. we'll be right back.

9:26 am
>> we are back 9.25. is the time happening today. first lady jill biden is going to be landing in the bay area for a campaign fundraiser. she'll be at a political finance event in los gatos tomorrow. >> police in berkeley are warning they've an increase in vehicle burglaries and thefts targeting honda's tuesday night alone. there were 7 vehicles that were stolen or burglarized and the majority of them were either honda civics or honda accords. and in 4 of those cases, the people stole the airbag. the thieves took the airbag right out of the steering wheel of vehicle. so i guess that will see that the trend today, thousands of santa clara county doctors and nurses are rallying. they want to prevent the closure of the regional medical center in san jose. it's a trauma center in the east san jose hospital that supposed to close on august 20th and it does provide essential care, lifesaving procedures for heart attack and stroke. patients and
9:27 am
employees say they've already got their layoff notices and they're concerned they're going to petition state leaders hoping to prevent this from closing. the rally is 11, 30 this morning at regional medical center on north jackson avenue. >> all right. we're going to take a break or 9.26. up next on the kron 4 morning news, a san jose elementary school aide is accused of sexually assaulting a young girl. and police believe there could be more victims.

9:30 am
looking today. as far as temperatures go. but those the winds are real her in through the coast right now. and that's what's bringing us the cool air called mother nature's. they see we're looking at the coastline right here with a lot of cloud cover overhead. then definitely a day today that is going to be bringing with it. some strong winds well into the afternoon. winds coming directly out of the south and west and pushing further inland. that's allowing those inland areas that nice cool down. good news is visibilities been okay. all that gray is sitting right above us temperatures right now we're in the 50's to 60's with oakland at 60 degrees. concord in dublin at 63 sf 53 degrees. kelsey bill about our only spot that's on the warmer side. nearing 80 degrees already as we move into the afternoon. it's 70's for most of us, a few low 80's here. and there rain. all right, john, let's get you moving here thursday for everybody hitting the roads. >> traveling into the city right now at about 15 minutes. our bridges for the most part today. you made some excellent time across them. 40 minutes.

9:32 am
mayor has this to say goal is not to invade somebody's privacy, but at the end of the day, we need this type of technology in these type of tools in order to protect the public. and there are tradeoffs when you want a safe society in using 21st century technology. >> it's going to be an important part of that. >> these high tech cameras are different than the speed enforcement ones. officials say they will only focus on vehicle information. none of this technology that we're using includes facial recognition technology >> and we're still in talks about what that could entail and how that can be helpful and the location of these cameras will remain unknown to the public. >> but we're told the san francisco police department has been strategic with their placements. but just to know that you are potentially if you're committing a crime, you're going to be caught. that's what we want everyone to think about the cameras that are all over san francisco in san francisco as ago in kron, 4 news. >> i don't want to sugarcoat
