>>we begin now with breaking news >>you're watching kron-on live on air and online with the kron on app. i'm stephanie rothman. we continue to follow breaking news out of oakland where early thursday morning the fbi raided the home of oakland mayor sheng thao along with 2 other homes and one business. this is a look on your screen at all. 4 locations raided thursday morning. they include the mayor's home on maiden lane in oakland hills. the california waste solutions office on embarcadero and 2 homes belonging to the owner of california waste solutions. one on view kress court and another on skyline boulevard. we go now to kron 4 s charles clifford, who is outside the mayor sheng thao. >>around 6 thursday morning, federal agents raided the home of oakland mayor sheng thao. according to neighbors, the mayor's boyfriend apparently opened the door and left the agents in the postal service and the irs were also involved in this search. agents could

be seen removing boxes and containers from the house. the rate at the mayor's home was one of 4 searches federal agents conducted on thursday. they also visited the offices of callaway solutions along the market there. a way in oakland that business is owned by the dewine. family agents also searched 2 other homes, one along skyline boulevard and another on view. crest court, both of which are also owned by the dwellings. as for the reason for the rates, the fbi released a statement on thursday saying only that the fbi is conducting court authorized law enforcement activity on maiden lane. we are unable to provide additional information at this time. but sources have told kron 4 that the search may be related to federal investigation into alleged campaign finance violations. in a statement, callaway solution said cws is fully aware that federal agents have executed search warrants at a number of locations in oakland today related to cws. the company is fully cooperating with the government's investigation. and we're

confident that the officials, the government will conclude that we are not involved in anything on lawful or improper activity as of thursday evening. mayor thao has not spoken publicly about the rates earlier in the day she was scheduled to attend an event with other bay area mayors but did not show up. >>and thursday's raids come as how faces a recall on wednesday, the alameda county registrar's office verify the recall will appear on the november ballot. those behind the recall effort took advantage of thursday situation appearing in front of the mayor's home this evening. the call for tell to resign. >>i'm year has failed we are here to demand that she resign. and they're seeing herself. and for that, they're seeing the city of oakland. >>the oakland chapter of the naacp also joining the calls for talent resign. the

latest developments on our website that kron 4 dot com. it's now 75% contained. more than 700 residents living south of lake sonoma were able to return to their homes yesterday after evacuation orders and warnings were lifted. the fire that started sunday afternoon has since destroyed 2 homes and spread to 1200 acres. another fire. we're tracking this one in solano county. the fire started thursday morning by highway 12 near the interchange. with i-80 in cordelia and has since burned 20 acres. thankfully, firefighters were able to stop it from spreading kron four's. lawrence karnow is tracking the conditions in the north bay. >>he's last couple of days. everything started to change to that. normally that offshore wind, all of a sudden we got that sea breeze back again. and not only did that

pacifica officers arrest a man accused of committing arson back in april. police say they got word of a man starting a fire on a property, a long rifle range road. a witness was able take a photo of the suspect. police later identified the man and him on suspicion of arson of a structure. >>it's it's upsetting that. we had an agreement in 2019 and now this is essentially being thrown in the trash can. >>free classes at san francisco city college are under threat of being slashed to the city's budget deficit. funding for the program was approved by voters back in 2016 and in 2019, a new agreement was made with the city to fund the program for a decade under proposed budget cuts. funding for the program would be reduced from 8.9 million dollars this year to just 9.3 million and seven 0.2 million for the next 2 school years. the board of trustees says 10's of thousands of

police are looking for the people responsible for a mass shooting at lake merritt where 15 people were shot. this happened wednesday night at juneteenth celebrations after fights broke out at a sideshow. there. kron four's gayle ong has the latest. >>this woman says she was shot on the hand and grazed by a stray bullet on her leg wednesday night. surveillance video capturing the crowd on what was supposed to be a peaceful juneteenth celebration at lake merritt overshadowed by an illegal sideshow during size or individual walk across the hood of one of the vehicles. >>leading to multiple people exiting vehicle and violently attacking that person. oakland's police chief adds that incident led to multiple fights that turned to gunfire and disappointing game. the

kron. four's your local election headquarters. the california supreme court decides on a measure that make it tougher for politicians to raise taxes must be removed from the november ballot. capitol correspondent eytan wallace shares the reasoning behind their decision. >>while the measure's proponents vehemently disagree with the high court's decision, a decision governor gavin newsom had hoped for. it's a major ruling from the california supreme court and this unanimous decision, all 7 justices on the court ruled to the taxpayer protection act, also known as the tpa. >>let's not appear on the election ballot this november. the measure which had already qualified for the ballot would have required every new state and local tax and tax increase to be approved by voters. but governor gavin newsom and

democrats in the legislature filed a lawsuit asking the high court to remove it from the ballot, arguing the measure would illegally revise the state constitution and would interfere with the basic function of government. law professor chris mckay lee, who was not involved in the case review the ruling. what they said was is that this clearly affects one of the core aspects of government taxation. >>and they said that it was so just such a substantial change. >>that it amounted to revision rather than simply an amendment. and that's why the voters can vote on it this november. it's the results. governor gavin newsom want it. >>his spokesperson writing, we are grateful the california supreme court unanimously removed this unconstitutional measure from the ballot. the governor believes the initiative process is a sacred part of our democracy. but as the court's decision affirmed today, that process does not allow for any legal constitutional revision. democratic legislative leaders echoing a similar sentiment. this from assembly speaker robert read this. i'm very

searches federal agents conducted on thursday. they also visited the offices of callaway solutions along a market there. a way in oakland that business is owned by the dewine. family agents also searched 2 other homes, one along skyline boulevard and another on view. crest court, both of which are also owned by the dwellings. as for the reason for the raids, the fbi released a statement on thursday saying only that the fbi is conducting court authorized law enforcement activity on maiden lane. we are unable to provide additional information at this time. but sources have told kron 4 that the search may be related to a federal investigation into alleged campaign finance violations. in a statement, callaway solution said cws is fully aware that federal agents have executed search warrants at a number of locations in oakland today related to cws. the company is fully cooperating with the government's investigation. and we're confident that the officials, the government will conclude that we are not involved in anything on lawful or improper

wallace shares the reasoning behind their decision. >>well, the measure's proponents vehemently disagree with the high court's decision. a decision governor gavin newsom had hoped for. it's a major ruling from the california supreme court and this unanimous decision, all 7 justices on the court ruled to the taxpayer protection act, also known as the tpa. >>must not appear on the election ballot this november. the measure, which had already qualified for the ballot would have required every new state and local tax and tax increase to be approved by voters. but governor gavin newsom and democrats in the legislature filed a lawsuit asking the high court to remove it from the ballot, arguing the measure would illegally revised the state constitution and would interfere with the basic function of government law. professor chris mckay lee, who was not involved in the case, review the ruling. what they said was is that this clearly affects one of the core aspects of government taxation. >>and they said that it was

such a substantial change. >>that it amounted to revision rather than simply an amendment. and that's why the voters can't vote on it this november. it's the results. governor gavin newsom want it. >>his spokesperson writing, we are grateful the california supreme court unanimously removed this unconstitutional measure from the ballot. the governor believes the initiative process is a sacred part of our democracy. but as the court's decision affirmed today, that process does not allow for any legal constitutional revision. democratic legislative leaders echoing a similar sentiment. this from assembly speaker robert read this. i'm very pleased the california supreme court rejected this unlawful and extreme effort to take power away from local communities to pay for essential services like police and firefighters. the republicans believe it's a slap in the face to voters. we have the right as as citizens of california to put put things on the ballot by petition. and that's exactly what we did. it should have been on this fall. >>they got the court to change it as one party control and
