weather well, gayle, is that she has a lot to handle because going to be hot. yes, they will. somebody has new the weather on to friday and it's actually the full first day of summer. yesterday was the summer solstice. so today we get a full day. it's going to feel like it because inland. >> you're going to heat up starting today. right now we are sitting in the 50's and 60's as you make your way in lynn and maybe some upper 40's by the coast. but i want to show your dayplanner. that's when you'll really see the difference than yesterday. we're talking upper 80's around noon low 90's around 3 o'clock and around the bay in coast. you'll be in the 60's and 70's, but we do have a heat advisory coming up on saturday. we could see triple digit heat inland. talk more about that in a few minutes. back to you. >> they'll have not been too bad. we do have a little bit of a holdup getting you across the bay bridge this morning. it's not completely stalling out traffic, but you see no backup at the toll plaza itself. this is going to be as you encounter the city. so do

anticipate that taking just a little bit longer than you'd normally expect on a friday san mateo bridge also slowing down just a little bit. it's 20 minutes for your crossing right now. not as bad of an impact as the bay bridge, but still do anticipate that one taking you just a bit longer. richmond center fell at only 7 minutes while the golden gate year. only concern there is dealing with some of that fog. 901. now. and we do have breaking news this morning. us supreme court has just upheld a federal gun control law that is intended to protect victims of domestic violence. the justices ruled 8 to one in favor of a 1994 ban on firearms for people under restraining orders to stay away from their spouses or partners. the justices reversed a ruling from the federal appeals court in new orleans that struck down that law. justice clarence thomas dissented just last week in another gun ruling, the court overturned a trump era ban on bump stocks. the court ruled that the justice department exceeded its authority in imposing that ban.

>> time now is 09:00:02am, breaking news from overnight. there was a fatal hit run in oakland. kron four's. michael thomas is in the newsroom with more. michael, what can you tell us? hi, everyone will. we're still learning details of morning. this deadly hit and run crash happened just after midnight in oakland and with one person dead and the driver involved still unknown. take a look. this is video. it happened at the cross streets of 100th avenue in june court on a residential street in oakland. this video with the scene was gathered just after midnight. now, police there say it was a vehicle versus pedestrian hit and run or excuse me hit and run essentially yes. and that pedestrian did pass away. the area was closed off for several hours as police investigated. as of right now, no details have been given regarding the victim or the vehicle that was involved. residents in the area say speeding has been an issue recently in that they've noticed speedbumps missing that were once there. we did reach out to oakland police this morning for an update. still waiting for more details as we get more. we'll continue

to keep you updated. but that is the very latest turn the newsroom. i'm michael thomas will send it back to 2 in the studio. all right. thanks a lot. it's 903. and another developing story after a. >> a mass shooting in oakland and fbi raid on her home. the mayor of oakland is nowhere to be found. yeah. that's what oakland residents are asking this morning. kron four's will tran is live in front of mayor sheng tells house this morning will what are you hearing out there? >> i am not hearing anything. many critics are saying her silence has been deafening. it has been more than 24 hours since fbi agents along with irs as well as the united states postal service. all the agents came to her house at 05:30am, in the morning. and just like we see in hollywood movies, they knocked at the door and said fbi open up. her boyfriend was home at the time and he opened up. let me show you the video they got here before sunrise and they stayed here for several hours.

looking through the home collecting evidence and ultimately leaving with a lot of evidence that they would not comment as far as mayor sheng thao. she has not made any comments on x, formerly known as twitter. she also had a public engagement yesterday at 10 o'clock in the morning. that was canceled. she has not even issued a statement through a spokesperson since the raid took place. so no action at all the house or on social media or even e-mail from her office from mayor sheng thao. so it has been quiet despite the spectacular circumstances that took place. not just at this location, but several miles from here at another home. let me show you that piece of video. this also happened simultaneously. this was at the home of a family member. that belongs to california. waste solutions that this is donated to taos

campaign back in 2020, the fbi would not go into details as far as their investigation. but kron 4 sources have told us that the investigation has something to do with campaign donations involving sheng thao at this particular point, it has been a brutal week for talent because even before this took place before the fbi and the other agents drop the hammer on this neighborhood and her house, many people walking by here still can't believe what happened to their neighborhood. that was shut down by federal agents before that even took place. critics of shane tell managed to gather at least 40,000 signatures to start the process of possibly re calling her. now many people are saying forget the recall based on what happened. they are asking if not downright demanding that she resigns at this particular point. still no comment. still no activity. still, no public. as far as

appearances from mayor sheng thao. thank you so much. well. >> and these rates come as mayor thao is facing a recall. and as we reported here on the kron 4 morning news 2 days ago, the alameda county registrars verified it. the number of signatures needed to get this on the ballot and those behind the recall took advantage of the situation appearing for the mayor's home yesterday, calling for resign. >> has failed we are here to demand that she resign. and they're seeing herself. and for they're seeing the city of oakland. >> meantime, the oakland chapter of the naacp is also joining in this call for the mayor to resign, saying, quote, oaklanders deserve a mayor was not distracted he's fully committed able to leave the city. the mayor should resign and give the city an opportunity to heal and move forward and quote and we have

a comment from former oakland police chief leronne armstrong who is suing the mayor and the city right accusing them of wrongful termination for him being fired. and here he says oakland is a city in crisis. crime, violence shootings, uncontrolled homelessness, unmitigated encampments, the budget deficit and more. he says the biggest obstacle to overcoming these crisis or the failure of leadership in city hall and shaw is running for city council. time now is 907. and we're learning that is student journalists was one of the 13 students arrested at stamford 2 weeks ago for barricaded themselves in the university president's office. the school leaders want the prosecution. this student, his name is dylan. go hill. but supporters of the young journalists are urging the da's office to drop the charges. attorneys for go. he'll say he was directed to cover the protest and published reports of what was

going on inside. they say that he did not break into the building and did not create the barricade. the school, however, points out the building is not open to the public or the campus community and he should have known better. all of the students involved in that face felony burglary charges. in the south bay this morning, a local branch of the national labor relations board is now taking up case involving drivers working cleanup on bay area development projects. >> they say they have gone almost 2 years without a new contract while fighting their employer premier recycled for the right to hold union activities. complaints from the federal agency's office in oakland said east san jose base premier recycle interfered with drivers efforts to organize for better pay and working conditions by letting go up. 7 employees union activities as well as discouraging union membership and administrative law judge will hear the case on december. 3rd company owner rocky hill, brock and brock

hill have not responded to requests for comment. 909. now several wildfires continue to burn in california. the current fire sparked around 10 yesterday morning in solano county. thankfully, crews were able to stop the flames from spreading further around this place. it burned 20 acres by highway 12 near the interchange. with i-80 in court deal yet. crews spent the rest of the day mopping up those areas. crews in sonoma county. here are gaining ground on the point. fire now 75% contained. more than 700 residents living south of lake sonoma. we're able to return to their homes on wednesday after evacuation orders and warnings were lifted. the fire that started sunday afternoon has destroyed 2 homes and spread to 1200 acres. >> time now is 9.10, and tomorrow, a well known italian restaurant in the south bay is closing for good after 52 years in business, santa

in los angeles. but we could see some moderate air in the bay area right now where we're good. we're in the green, but tomorrow we could see some hazy skies, smoke forecast. you can parts of sacramento could see some moderate smoke moving through and the central valley over by fresno. but the bay area looks mostly clear, but just something to keep an eye out. if you are sensitive, 2 moderate air quality. so we do see that in the forecast. other than that, we're quiet along the weather. just those clouds over by the coastline here. but afternoon sunshine in lynn. and that is our typical bay area. summer pattern today, though, we are going to be toasty today is the start of a warm up for you in land that we have some relatively calm winds in the forecast as well. so not those strong winds. so you notice will be breezing in the teens throughout the day and then towards the late afternoon. that's when that sea breeze kicks in around 03:05pm. so this evening, you'll notice a breeze gusting around 20 miles

per hour along the coast, but relatively calm everywhere else will start off with some calm winds tomorrow morning and a very similar pattern with that sea breeze kicks in in the afternoon. so hot temperatures for saturday. there's a heat advisory in place starting at 11:00am until 10:00pm tomorrow night. napa, walnut creek livermore, morgan hill and san jose and towards the san joaquin and sacramento area. under that heat advisory, we could see temperatures go up to triple digits but definitely upper 90's. it will be toasty if you're sensitive to the heat. daytime highs today in san francisco, low 70's and low 60's over by golden gate park and the sunset district over by the beaches. that's where you want to be to beat the heat. upper 50's and montana and 60's every by pacifica and half moon bay, upper 60's and south san francisco. and then we start to see upper 70's towards burlingame and then more 80's and 70's san carlos. 82 degrees in m untain view.

83 free you, santa clara county. now we're starting to see some 90's los gatos and morgan hill, 87 degrees for you in san jose to the east bay tried valley. you're starting to see some low 90's for you as well. 81 degrees in union city as you make your way towards the east bay shoreline, a little cooler around oakland in the 70's and berkeley, but warm close to 90 degrees for you in walnut creek. 91 in concord, in danville. so the north bay, if you're going wine tasting, it's going to be warm. upper 80's and sonoma and napa vacaville mid-nineties for you and 90 degrees in santa rosa. your seven-day forecast of saturday looks like the hottest day of the week close to triple digits inland. you'll be in the 80's around the bay 60's by the coast. but then sunday will notice a cool down back to the 90's, low 90's and then 70's around debate 60's by the coast. back to you. and looking at the roads this morning, gayle, we are seeing a bit of a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza.

>> this is because of an accident that had been blocking one of the left lanes. once you get into the city right around fort street, it does look like that backup is now starting to dissolve a little bit. and that's because crews have officially got the cleanup work under way for an accident that does not look like it evolved. any injuries. san mateo bridge also just a little slower right now. we also saw similar issue. once you head to the west side of the bridge right around the same time as that bay bridge one. so we went from friday light to kind of friday. moderate really quick at the coastline. it is definitely foggy and you're running into that. as you cross the golden gate, be prepared to run those windshield wipers a timer to its night. 17 of the treasury department is taking bold action to combat the opioid crisis. treasury secretary janet yellen. >> just held a news conference talking about how the u.s. is sanctioned 8 mexico based targets affiliated with a mexican criminal organization last july, san francisco police with the help of federal and state partners. i started to tackle the fentanyl

crisis together in the tenderloin and last year the partners made about 200 arrests and seized more than 45 kilos of fentanyl. yellen says that la nueva cartel traffic's fentanyl and other illegal drugs into the u.s.. >> 9.18 now a measure to raise sales taxes for residents in half moon bay could appear on the november ballot city officials conducted a poll and asked voters if they would like to see an increase by a half-cent on the sales tax. 63% of voters supported the increase. the city council says this plan would help combat 3.9 million dollar deficit. the city has those against the measure say taxes are already too expensive. the city council will vote on the increase at their meeting on july. 16th. some leaders and san francisco's tenderloin district are showing their support for the mayor to limit how long certain stores can stay open at night. city supervisors approved the mayor's plan of earlier this past week. the ordinance would force certain businesses like

liquor stores and smoke shops to close between midnight and 05:00am. officials say it's a strategy to disrupt drug markets? >> i don't anticipate it a negative impact on the existing. businesses in the neighborhood they are open other times of the day. and that's really when majority of the neighborhood residents would be going there for their needs. those times between 12 and 5 are still. >> a that the drug market agency coordination center are really trying to to to impact. and this is a tool to really help that. >> some business owners feel the move could, in fact, increase crime and decrease their business. others, though, say they hope this effort will empower locals to shop in the daytime. >> it's 9.20 and it's secret that america's classrooms need more teachers. but some lawmakers on capitol hill say they have to plan to fix it. >> washington correspondent reshad hudson has the latest

school districts across the country may be out for the summer, but pay for teachers and policy for those students are top of mind for lawmakers here on capitol hill. >> lawmakers say teachers are packing up and leaving the classroom public school teachers. >> i've been overworked. on the page. understaffed vermont senator bernie sanders says he's pay teachers act would require teachers make at least $60,000 a year. they should not be forced to be on. food stamps. gemayel keys. a teacher in philadelphia says he's forced to use his own money for classroom supplies. and just this school year alone, i've spent over $1000 on. >> those things, keys and other teachers and education advocates testified before senators thursday, some education leaders prioritize social agendas and progressive ideology over academic

violations. in a statement tiktok says that is proud and remains deeply committed to the work it's doing to protect children. congress's best. the latest edition of the sweeping agricultural bill. and it turns out that food nutrition programs are in limbo because of this, including snap. senate democrats argue that this proposed 1.5 chill trillion dollar bill focuses on the wrong things and shoes as commodities over nutrition programs for low-income americans. but republicans say they want to focus on farmers, including better safety net and providing risk protection and income support for them. >> 9.26. it's the first day of summer. first full day of summer and record travel is predicted this year for the 4th of july exceeding even pre-pandemic numbers. triple a says almost 71 million americans are going to travel somewhere over the entire week of the 4th of july. that would be the most ever. the vast majority of those traveling

brief accidents occurring right around 4 street on 80 in san francisco. it's a brief because the cars were literally able to drive away. but it did have one lane blocked and that did such a back a little bit. good news is things are pretty cleaned up now and it's 15 minutes to get you across the bay bridge so they can prove it. san mateo bridge at 19 minutes, very similar situation going on. once you get to the west side of the bridge over in foster city, you're encountering a bit of a slowdown. but still you're moving along and things are not at a standstill. richmond center fell unaffected by any sort of backup. and the only thing at the golden gate is that dense fog that may have you turn on the windshield wipers. a timer to 9.30, right now. and a big story that we're following out oakland. 15 people were shot >> after an illegal sideshow that happened after what was a peaceful day time juneteenth celebration like mary lou. the police are now looking for the people responsible kron four's gayle ong is back with the latest on this story. >> this woman says she was shot on the hand and grazed by a stray bullet on her leg

wednesday surveillance video capturing the crowd on what was supposed to be a peaceful juneteenth celebration at lake merritt overshadowed by an illegal sideshow. doing >> individual walk across hood of one of the vehicles leading to multiple people exiting vehicle and violently attacking that person. oakland's police chief adds that incident led to multiple fights that turned to gunfire. very disappointing game. >> violence never. >> the solution. the woman's car was also hit by gunshots. it was towed away the day after the chaos. lake merritt was quiet thursday afternoon. this was the scene around 8.15, wednesday night on the north side of the lake. oakland police say 15 people were shot. one person assaulted, all were taken to

the hospital. opd is police chief says the department prepared for the juneteenth celebrations, but officers were doing with other incidents. we have people there. >> but you have to understand this is a large city, almost 500,000 people. we had officers there on special detail to provide a high visibility there. we also had shooting incident that the cheap beer just talked about. we also responded to a homicide that occurred just earlier. part of that know we have people there, but to say that we can be at every place and every time we cannot do that at this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. >> anyone with information is asked to contact oakland police. >> gayle ong kron. 4 news 9. 33, 2 adults were killed and 2 teenagers injured during a shooting in richmond this week. >> investigators say 21 year-old masia brown and 30 year-old alvaro garcia par were killed after being shot on pennsylvania avenue. the 2 teams including a 16 year-old girl are expected to be okay. the shooting happened on

tuesday and shortly after midnight wednesday, another shooting on kelsey street left another person dead. city officials are vowing to do more to increase safety. >> police say they're going to be increasing patrols in that area. and i know we also have the office of neighborhood safety that does direct outreach to >> areas where gun violence and those most at risk of being involved in gun violence. they usually reach out to those areas conflict, mediation, get folks to put down the guns guide them away from that happen prevent escalation from no arrests or motives have been announced in either case. >> police in newark are trying to find out what led to the death of a 24 year-old man back in 2022. >> investigators say sergio to was in a comatose state when he was taken by his friends to washington hospital in fremont, his friends claimed he was hurt from a fall during a basketball game. but medical

staff was suspicious of the story saying his injuries just didn't match up with what they're being told to ultimately died a few days later. now, investigators later learned from a witness that are to was hurt during a fight ashtray park in newark. now they're trying to figure out who was involved in this fight. officials say potential witnesses are not cooperating with the investigation. so they're asking anyone else that might have information to give them a call. i know it's not for and the city of pittsburgh is reminding you that we do live with coyote ease. >> and you might not want to be near one. so to stay away from coyotes keep them away from you. make sure your trash is secure. look at this. this one was just seen at the marina community center looks like he's getting a drink. if he if you don't want to keep them around, make sure that all your trash is secured because they want to eat too. so remove all food sources from around your property. and you might want to install motion activated lights as well. keep your pets inside

too. 9.35.nd the doctor who drove with his entire family off a cliff at devil's slide in san mateo county is not going to face any criminal charges and he will not end up standing trial. his name is dharmesh patel and he was driving with his wife and 2 young children when he plunged off of this cliff, as you can see, this was january 2023 and it's amazing that everyone survived. sterday, a judge granted him a mental health diversion. what does that mean? well, it suspends the 3 counts of attempted murder that he had been facing. he has to complete a court-ordered mental health program mateo county. and then if he does that, the criminal charges will be dropped. he also has to live with his parents in belmont. check in with the court weekly and maintain treatment at the hospital. the da's office was strongly against this and they objected to the judge's

decision. but the judge sided with defense attorneys. >> front 4 is your local election headquarters. the california supreme court has ruled the measure that would have made it tougher for politicians to raise taxes must be removed from the november ballot. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> well, the measure's proponents vehemently disagree with the high court's decision. a decision governor gavin newsom had hoped for. it's a majorulingrom the california supreme court and this unanimous decision, all 7 justices on the court ruled to the taxpayer protection act also known as the tpa. let's not appear on the election ballot this november. the measure which had already qualified for the ballot would have required every new state and local tax and tax increase to be approved by voters. but governor gavin newsom and democrats in the legislature filed a lawsuit asking the high court to remove it from the ballot, arguing the measure would illegally revised the state constitution and would interfere with the basic function of government

law. professor chris mckay lee, who was not involved in the case review the ruling. what they said was is that this initiative represented a fundamental change to our structure of government and therefore, it amounted to an impermissible revision of the constitution. and that's why the voters can't vote on it this november. it's the results. governor gavin newsom want it. >> his spokesperson writing, we are grateful the california supreme court unanimously removed this unconstitutional measure from the ballot. >> the governor believes the initiative process is a sacred part of our democracy. but as the court's decision affirmed today, that process does not allow for any legal constitutional revision. democratic legislative s echoing a similar sentiment. this from assembly speaker robert read this. ry pleased to the california supreme court rejected this unlawful and extre effort to take power away from local communities to pay for essential services like police and firefighters. but republicans believe it's a slap in the face to voters. we

have the right as citizens of california to put it, put things on the ballot by petition. and that's exactly what we did. >> it should have been on this fall. they got the court to change it as one party control and it's wrong. proponents of the ballot measure, including the howard jarvis taxpayers association and california business roundtable argue the measure was legal and necessary to give taxpayers more power in the state. they say is overtaxed. the supreme court has taken that away from you. most importantly, the governor and the legislature have taken that right away from you. >> the governor and a legislature do not want you to that right. they talk about democracy. don't be fooled. do not be fooled. we're the highest taxed state in the country. ladies and gentleman be scared. because it's only going to get worse. be scared. >> and to be clear, this ruling is final. but the measure's proponents who you just heard from said looking ahead in their words, all options are on the table, including a possible new initiative in 2026. reporting
