>> front and center. all of those boxes removed from mayor sheng thao ce home thursday morning. fbi spokesperson telling kron 4 news that the raid was a court sanction. law enforcement action agents would not elaborate on what the court granted agents to seize. there were about a dozen items taken out, including several large containers. we also don't know if mayor thao was the target of the investigation. this is highly unusual to see a man there. >> who is facing in fbi investigation. justin berton is a political consultant and the former director of communications for former mayor libby schaff. she is facing a recall and that was going to be a steep. >> political hill to climb. but now that you have the way of an fbi investigation on your back and you've left oakland in the dark for more than 24 hours. that's political climb. just became mount everest. federal agents

raided 3 other places including the home of david and andy do they along with other family members own and operate. california waste solutions. >> the city's recycling service and frankly has had a pass that was well known in oakland as being under investigation themselves for an campaign violations. all seen the boxes. >> being carted out with documents they will sit down with him or her or the cadre. u.s. attorney's involved. all right. let's go through all of this legal expert, former prosecutor. >> and current defense attorney michael cardoza says now agents are going over. all that was taken out. we have suspicion that someone committed these particular crimes. let's see if we have information here. >> that absolutely proves that i can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. so they will about this. so it's going to take them a bit of time.

although the mayor has been out of the public eye, her attorney did release a statement on her behalf saying, quote. >> mayor thao is ready, willing and able to cooperate fully with federal investigators. she has nothing to hide. it's unfortunate that she has had to endure the bad optics of having the search warrant executed on her home. she would have cooperated with this investigation without the need for this search. she will continue to do the work. oakland expects from their mayor and provide the federal government with whatever information they're seeking. we have no information that she is or will be the target of this or any investigation. legal expert michael cardoza also adds this that it could be months before we find out what was at the heart of this fbi raid in the newsroom. theresa kron, 4 news. >> multi-family rental property owners can now get recycling service refunds through the city of oakland. these refunds. they're the

result of a 2017 lawsuit. the city of oakland brought against. california waste solutions over recycling service charges above the contracted amount. the lawsuit settlement agreement also reduces these property owners, recycling rates going forward from about $180 down to $35. 1340 properties are known to be affected with refunds ranging from a few 100 to several $1000. one person is recovering in the hospital tonight after they were shot in san francisco's soma district today. a citizen video shows police presence in the area of 11th and norfolk street shortly before 3 o'clock in the afternoon. no arrests have been made. police say that the victim, though, is expected to be okay. the san francisco department of public health says overdosed set deaths are on the decline back last month. 66 people died from a drug overdose. that's compared to 73 deaths in may of last year. the

department is crediting a new night navigator program that sends health experts out late at night. kron four's rob nesbitt joins us now live in the studio with more to explain how it works. ruck, the key doctors with the department of health talk today about buprenorphine micro dosing and what they considered to be. >> an innovative approach to treating fentanyl addiction. san francisco's night navigator program has been in the works since march every night from 08:00pm to midnight in the tenderloin health experts connect people struggling with addiction treatment. we conducted approximately 440 in the field. nighttime telehealth visits, director of behavioral health and mental health in san francisco. doctor hilary cummins says micro dosing buprenorphine has been one of the most successful forms of treatment of people. north phoenix, one of the 2 most highly effective medications. >> and reduces the risk of overdose deaths by approximately 50%. the other medication as methadone. but there are strict regulations

on who can prescribe that medication. doctor joanna eveland is the chief medical officer for people experiencing homelessness and for people who use drugs. she says that people nor feeing helps decrease the withdrawal symptoms that someone struggling with addiction experiences when they stop using harmful drugs. we know people are nothing is a highly effective medication for controlling, create things. >> my patients who are taking different if you report tha they feel normal and stable, th can go back to work. they can take care of their families. the night navigator program does not just work to provide drug treatment in the tenderloin doctor evil and is oftentimes on the other end of the phone during telehealth calls me late at night. >> working to remove the barriers that someone struggling with addiction might face. they need an id if they need help getting their insurance updated if they need transportation to the pharmacy as well as offering hotel rooms or access to a shelter bed for someone experiencing homelessness at the same time as an addiction to fentanyl. in addition to the night navigator program, the city also provides treatment with

buprenorphine that primary care clinics specialty, behavioral health clinics. >> and permanent supportive housing sites, homeless shelters and navigation sites reporting in studio. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. thank you, rob. as part of governor newsom's plan for tackling the fentanyl and opioid crisis. >> over the counter, naloxone is now available either through the state for free to eligible organizations or for sale for $24 per twin pack. the drug can save somebodys life during an opioid overdose. the goal to expand distribution and have it in places like restaurants and rideshares. all right. back to our top story. david de pap the man who attacked nancy pelosi's husband, paul, has been convicted in his state trial. we're going to take you live right now to a press conference going on to discuss the conviction. let's listen that at speaker america. pelosi's home in the attack of her husband, paul pelosi on 10/28/2022.

>> specifically the jury found mister de pap guilty of aggravated kidnapping, first-degree residential burglary. false imprisonment with great bodily injury and a deadly weapon. threats of life or serious body bodily injury of an elected official or their immediate family member. preventing or dissuading a witness by force or threat. the jury also found all allegations of great bodily injury and personal use of a deadly weapon to be true. i would like to thank the jurors for their service in this case and for their attention to the evidence throughout this very long trial. i would also like to take a mome to thk our staff that worked has a tremendous team to achieve justice in this case. specifically the attorneys, sean connelly phoebe mcveigh. who were tremendous trial lawyers throughout this with a number of issues coming up

that that was dealt with by the we have charged, mister. we charge mister de pap with what he was. i'm guilty of asked clear by the jury's verdict. it was all based on the same set of evidence and facts and they we're able to find that he was guilty. and so there's no need for for accusations of of vindictive prosecution. we're simply trying to do our jobs to make sure that he was held accountable for every act that occurred that night. that was criminal. of course, as

attorneys, you always feel a sense of pressure when a case is so visible. but we are obligated to treat this case like every other, regardless of whether or not the media is in many cases, we have victims and we have the families of victims relying upon us to deliver justice. and so we treat every single case with the same amount of care and attention that we regardless of whether that case garners attention or not. okay. we have watching san francisco da. >> brooke jenkins talking about to david de pap, who has found guilty the state of kidnapping. we're going continue to update you on this throughout the evening. but let's go and talk about the weather right now. the forecast everchanging conference chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to walk us through it. >> yeah, here we go. we got the first weekend of summer and we're going to feel the heat least in parts of the bay

area's high pressure building over head of the desert southwest and that is going to really start to crank up the temperatures. still, we've got that fog, that lovely fog out there making its way into san francisco inside the bay right now that is going to keep much of the coasnline as much as 40 degrees cooler by tomorrow afternoon. but well, you get away from the coast anywhere inland and it is going to be blaze in the mall. upper 90's, maybe some low 100 degree temperatures by tomorrow afternoon, even hotter than that in the central valley. all that dry desert air coming in and that will send those temperatures soaring. but the good news is it's going to want be a one-day event. i think we see a stronger sea breeze kick in as early as sunday and that is going help cool down the temperatures. but tomorrow heat advisories are going up. all those share area shaded in orange seeing the north bay, the east bay, the santa clara valley, expecting those temperatures to be running well above the average 90's, even some triple digits not only there, but if you're traveling around the state is going to be hot up and down the joaquin valley hot temperatures and advisories all the way down in the southern california. >> all right, lawrence, coming

>> search is underway tonight in the east bay for a driver who hit a man on a bicycle and killed him. it happened at the intersection of 100th avenue and june court just after midnight police say that a silver saturn sedan was speeding when it hit the victim. officers also say that the driver got out, move the bicycle from under the car and then sped off. no word tonight

if alcohol or drugs were factors in that crash. but anybody with information is being asked to police. alameda county is getting a new trauma center. the washington hospital, health care system in fremont has been designated as a level 2 adult trauma center effective july. 1st, the center will provide 24 7 specialize lifesaving care for critically injured patients. it will be the county's 4th trauma center. joining highland hospital, even medical center and ucsf benioff children's hospital in oakland. the contra costa county mosquito and vector control is reporting that 2 birds have been found dead. they also tested a positive for west nile virus. both were american crows found in concord. now there has been there have been rather 3 per it's reported for the virus in 2024. and scientist will now set up miss keto traps to see if any of them have been affected. you know, they warm.

they're warning that as the summer warms up, but there is a higher chance of the virus spreading due to o'hare mosquito population. there's been a lot of division at the state capitol as of late, but democrats or republicans are coming together for a bill that they hope we'll bring smiles to millions of californians literally known as the smile act. senate bill, 9 80's calling for low-income californians enrolled medicare out to be eligible for tooth replacement coverage currently medical covers procedures to remove a tooth but not to replace it with an implant. well, this bill would change that lawmakers from both sides of the aisle say that the bill is necessary to ensure adequate dental coverage for californians in need. >> to be able to smile, to be confident in that job interview are on that date or in a family portrait are to do something as basic has properly chewing food. what is the point of being one of the wealthiest states in the world and not be able to provide basic rights to residents in

need of basic dignity. >> as a republican here in sacramento, i can smile. we have this much bipartisanship together. let's all give a big smile. how the bill has no formal opposition. but lawmakers do acknowledge that dental implants are. >> not cheap. the high cost could actually pose a challenge to fund the bill. well, the state faces a multibillion dollar deficit. in the east bay. fire crews were able to quickly stop a grass fire from spreading to nearby homes. this in pittsburgh, it's near santa maria drive. crews say the fire is one and a half acres but now fully contained. and in the north bay, crews are mopping up the point fire near lake sonoma. it is now 80% contained and burning more than 1200 acres. some residents were able to go home after evacuation orders and warnings were lifted crews say that they don't anticipate any more fire activity there and

the sites fire that's burning, inclusive county. it's still more than 19,000 acres. it's about 30% contained. so here's some pictures we have of from cal fire, the progress the crews are making their crews say that they're still strengthening control lines on this fire. evacuation orders, though, are still in place. and there were 4 zone forecast as we get a live look outside right now. mount diablo really crispy grass out there, lawrence, it's going to be hot. but what about the fire danger? yeah, that's probably the biggest concern. winds. >> not going to be a big deal. i think as we head the weekend, but place going to be blazing hot and in around the sides fighting in the central valley, those temperatures over 100, maybe 105 degrees in some spots there. so difficult just to fight that fire. but you can imagine those hot temperatures drying things out. and yeah, very low humidity out there. that's going make the fires run a little bit more right now. we're seeing a bit of an afternoon sea breeze developing in and around the fire right now. that's when

the fire 10 get a little more active in the afternoon as those winds start to kick up a little bit overnight tonight, those winds are going to back off now to the north point fire. we have some good conditions there. overall, fairly light winds so far even this afternoon. and what's been really nice last couple of days, just the humidity has gone way up. we went from early in the week. we're talking about maybe 4% almost desert dry outside all the way up to over 90% were going to see that again for tonight here. the very latest on the conditions outside to see towards santa rosa. 39% right relative humidity. but as we head through the night tonight, that really ramps up. so by early tomorrow morning, we're talking almost 100%. and that is great news for firefighters slows down the spread of those fires in a hurry, maybe with some drizzle out along the coastline. again, there is measurable drizzle out there last night as we head toward tomorrow afternoon to get the hot temperatures. and there you go ahead. well, inland and you see things start to drop off into the teens and the 20 a pup percentile range that dry hit hot air begins to settle on in. so air quality so far today, not bad and packed looking good and across much

of the bay area. the one place that we're looking at, some moderate amounts blue also in the santa clara valley. but overall, i think things are looking good as high pressure going to build in its can bring some hot weather tomorrow. may be a little hazy in spots in the north bay, maybe the south bay tomorrow afternoon. otherwise, i think overall, i think tomorrow kind of a tough day just to fight them. can you imagine mean and you all you're fired? you're trying to fight those fires in blazing heat. i mean, that's going to be hard enough alone. it's rough. yeah. all right. try to be careful. have to work so hard ranks, hey, you know this a 4th of july holiday, it's expected to be the busiest one on record. >> triple a says that more than 70 million people are going to be out there traveling 6 million by air, more than 60 million by car experts say because of that road trips are going to take about 70% longer than normal commute. the 4th of july travel period is between june 29th, july 7th this year. many senators on capitol hill are fired up now after seeing the surgeon general's op-ed on social media warning labels,

democrats and republicans say that the dangers of social media warrant congressional action and they're ready to cooperate with the administration to do just that. our capitol correspondent, basil, john reports. >> social media has designed today is a dangerous product. south carolina republican senator lindsey graham says it's about time congress take action against the dangers of social media after the surgeon general called for social media warning labels until we support what he's saying. the only way to implement warning labels of any kind is their congressional action. and graham says the numbers justify it. we've seen suicide rates among teenage girls fairly dramatically depression. mind. younger population and he's not alone as some democrats like new york senator kirsten gillibrand. see this as the opportunity for congress to do something. we have to keep trying. and i think that surgeon general's approach is a good step. juul brand is also pushing for regulation

because of criminal organizations that target kids online by posing as young girls and solicit nude photos for ransom and say we publish these. if you don't give us money. >> and one young boy, a 17 just succumb to suicide because of that in his 3 years in the role of the surgeon general has spoken to lawmakers about social media dangers. and he told me this week he wants congress to take the next step and not just verbally support his call for warning labels. we have to do is is. >> finish the finish. the deal can get something across the line and actually implementing even with congressional approval tech companies would likely challenge warning labels and the courts. >> reporting in washington, i'm basil, john. >> why south bay restaurant cirillo is closing its doors after more than 50 years in business. happening tomorrow,

a well known italian restaurant in the south bay, sadly shutting its doors after 52 years in business claire's fear real lows restaurant is shutting down on their website. the company says that their last day of business is tomorrow on social media. the restaurant thanked all their customers for visiting them throughout the years. they say have become like family to them. not clear why the restaurant is deciding to close. and here's a sneak peek at the exploration portal at the children's discovery museum of san jose. it has 8 new interactive exhibits from math to science and nature with a new outdoor education playspace kids can scamper

have some breaking news out of oakland right now. firefighters are on the scene of a grass fire. >> this is a long 5.80, near golf links road chp saying that the fire started as a car fire that just spread to vegetation. 2 lanes are closed right now on the westbound direction of 5.80, no word on how big that fire is at this point or if there are any injuries. firefighters do say they have the fire surrounded. there are no buildings that are currently being threatened. but we'll keep you updated as we learn more. reports of a man pointing a gun at motorists in newark
