temperatures overnight. cooldown really nicely. we're back down in the 50's for most areas. we are looking at a low 50 in novato berkeley sitting at 53 while oakland, alameda and dublin, egypt. 56 degrees petaluma at 55 right now. there's that fog sitting right over sfo of you can still see. but maybe watch for some delays this morning as that foggy blanket is super dads and pushing right back up along the coastline. this is going to help us out with a little bit of a cool down as compared to the past few days today. and nobody is getting up into the 90's. it's a tease at the very warmest with the bayshore in the coast, in the 70's to the 60's. as for your roads this morning, let's get a look at your bridges to kick things off right now across the bay bridge. it is 7 minutes maze to fremont street pretty expected for your early morning and not so bad at all. 13 minutes across the san mateo bridge. that's the limit. so everything's looking fine. there. richmond center fell at 7 minutes. well, finally, a look at the golden gate. fog is out above bridge

level. so no visibility issues and moving along. okay. right. all right. on the for that. >> last night san francisco school board began considering which of the 121 public schools on a close or either merge next year. the district trying to deal with declining enrollment budget deficit over sarah stinson has that story. >> the superintendent announced at the meeting, the criteria that will be used to decide which schools are closed or merged students. teachers, parents all spoke during public comment. many of them emotional and mad about the closures. students in san francisco are willing to summer break, but some still have school on the mind. the school board is deciding which schools to close or merge in effort to combat a more than 400 million dollar budget deficit. the board met tuesday night to discuss how they will make this decision. a long line of students spoke during public comment against closures will be hard for me to restart at a brand new

school, not having the ability to be with most of the people that i know now. >> would be heartbreaking as a member of the board counted as a student. i was a perspective that matter most in decisions that affect our education and future of the district says the budget deficit is due to enrollment dropping by more than 4,000 students since the 2017, 2018 school year. the board projects it could lose another 4600 students by 2032. but one parent blames the district. they're using our kids resources to fix something that they are responsible for creating superintendent matt wayne presented the criteria that will be used when deciding which schools will be affected. he says all 121 schools receive a composite score based on 3 categories. 25 1% on excellence. 25% on effective use of resources and 50% on equity. the concern that we have is that schools will be closed on the backs of the poor. >> and that and more affluent neighborhoods. well, just fill

up more schools. superintendent wayne says this process includes community feedback and oversight after we develop our recommendations were going to go through an equity audit. >> 2 and a to ensure that we're not disproportionately impacting anyone community. the district plans to announce a list of proposed schools that would be affected by this september and then the board would vote on this by december. >> again, none of these changes would go into effect until the 2025 2026 school year. i'm sara stinson reporting in san francisco. kron. 4 news. well, 63 million dollars. that's how much local leaders are proposing a cut from the city's budget. >> if that 105 million dollar deal to sell the city share the coliseum falls through the proposal. could drastically affect public safety. we have council president nikki fortunato bas posting on social media saying that 65% of the city's general fund is for public safety. and that deficit requires significant general fund cut. well, the

city council set to vote on adopting that proposed budget on friday. this comes as another member of oakland mayor sheng to house leadership team is out. tell hope for the first time on monday, 5 days after her home was raided by the fbi shortly after those public comments, criminal defense attorney anthony brass withdrew as her lawyer yesterday, house communications chief francis zamora also announcing his resignation in a statement morris and i resign my position. chief of communications. i think my colleagues for their professionalism, their dedication. it was an honor to serve the city of oakland beside him. in response to that resignation, mayor touts things and more for being a valuable team member. than 2 years. alameda county district attorney pamela price is trying to clarify report some attorneys in our own office won her out of office. >> i think that the final straw for prosecutors union

was, in fact, our investigation of the death penalty cases and the disclosure of that misconduct. i do believe that they're threatened by review of past prosecutor misconduct. i do believe that too many prosecutors in this office raised with very different values than the values that this community hold today. >> well, prices the union that is supporting a recall only represents about a quarter of those who work in office regarding that alleged misconduct by district attorneys in those death penalty cases. provided very little update, other than to say the investigation is proceeding. meanwhile, the top deputy for price is out. now. price confirmed that chief assistant district does bush junior has resigned. bruce is pictured right here next to prices wearing that red tie join the da's office started last year after retiring as marin county's district assistant district attorney.

oakland police now saying 14 people were shot near lake merritt on june teeth. not 15 police say they were actually the second shooting. it happened just minutes later. so 2 people were injured in that shooting. one of them took themselves to the hospital. the person was originally county among the mass shoo. tums alameda county district attorney pamela price is they're still collecting evidence in that mass shooting. and so far no charges have been filed. happening today. there's going to be a press conference right on the steps of the courthouse in oakland protesting the sentencing for benjamin harmon's case back in 2021. harmon was murdered during a fatal house robbery. it was found bound, gagged, strangled to death in the oakland hills, 3 of the 4 defendants in that case and entered guilty pleas. herman's family says it is insufficient. they also claim that they were not informed about the plea deal. julie sot press release online. the

family states, they want this case to go to a jury trial. the major project order to connect the vta with bark in the south bay hitting a 6 billion dollar wall. the boj it already is going to take more than 10 years to finish up a 12 million dollar price tag coverage. that moment has that story. if you live in san jose, you live in one of the top tech capitals in the world. >> you also know that you live in a part of the bay area that is disconnected from the rest of the region because part doesn't come out far into san jose. but now there's a new project him to do just that. bringing bart connected to the rest of the vta. there's just one problem, though, is that county leaders say they can't get this project done. >> without 6 billion dollars in federal funding. we are here today. >> because we're at a turning point with the with federal funding for phase 2 of art, the to silicon valley standing outside the southernmost part station on tuesday. santa

clara county leaders announced they've applied for 6 billion dollars in funding from the federal transportation agency. >> the money they say they must get in order to get the project across the finish line. it's about people. it's about our neighbors and it's about local community truck. shun work has already started on the extension. and when it's done, it would connect art to vta 3, several stops in san jose potentially create 75,000 jobs. >> the bart jose project is a critical. it's critical to the thousands of local 2.70, members along with the rest of the traits will rely on construction projects like this one. bart service in san jose is limited. but this project would take it right through downtown and all the way to santa clara. >> the vta says this would connect all the cities that touch the san francisco bay by bart. and we need the federal funding to ensure that where we stand today is not the end of the bart line, but just the beginning. so construction on this six-mile long extension

well, here are 4 things know today, more than 3 dozen people incarcerated at the san francisco county jail are in isolation following a covid outbreak jealous. 42 confirmed cases. jail staff says start seeing an uptick in covid cases last week. alameda fire fighters. they got control of wildland fire. this right between morgan freeman. the fire broke out around 4 yesterday afternoon. so far 34 acres at one point the flames to spread towards the union pacific railroad tracks shutting down the trains. after a decade in business, casper's hotdog closing one of their locations in hayward. actually been open since 1940, last day set for saturday, july 13. east bay athlete, malcolm clements. going to go head to the 2024 summer olympics next month. came in

though. now we've got that marine layer pushing back in and temperatures that are settling back down humidity going to feel much more normal, too much less of a muggy feel today. you do have fog at the coastline. still warm and been but not near as hot as it has been. winds really going to be breezy through the delta, the coastline, the golden gate, all these areas subject to a very strong southwesterly wind pushing in that cooler ocean air and keeping temperatures moderate even more so into tomorrow. thursday is expected to be an even cooler day than today. now i talked about a little bit of that smoke. we do have wildfires burning just east of fresno up in the sierra nevada. smoke from that. latest blaze is not going to be pushing our direction, but quite the plume being detected out there in the sierra. so if you are heading that direction, particularly around sequoia kings canyon, national parks, do watch for that impact. now, temperatures today are going to be in the 50's to 60's for san francisco as well as other coastal spots. a lot of 70's to 80's elsewhere. and i'm not

going to be talking about in the 90's. and i think that's ok with most of us little bit of a step back from the summer heat, san jose at 79 today, wall even pleasanton and livermore down into barely low 80's heyward right at 70 degrees. same for oakland in san leandro, concord at 84 today. antioch in vacaville are closest spots to that ninety-degree mark, but not getting there today. well, tomorrow on average is actually going to be even cooler than today. with temperatures cooling even further into the mid-eighties at the warmest the weekend comes along with those 70's and 80's keeping strong, especially into pride weekend for the city should be a gorgeous one for getting out there. we waste no time getting back up into next week. highs back in the triple digits by tuesday. as for your roads, things out there are pretty smooth sailing this morning. we do have an accident heading eastbound on the bay bridge that does have injuries. but as that is the counter commute direction, there is no backup there. your commute heading westbound is

doing just fine. san mateo bridge at 13 minutes to make your crossing. while the richmond, sandra fell at 7 minutes. and finally, the golden gate at 20 minutes, strong wind pushing through the gate this morning. so do watch for that. as you make your crossing right now. all right, john, well in the east bay, there's been a delay in response to 9-1-1, calls in 3 cities. >> the last 3 days emergency calls in pinole hercules and san pablo have been answered by contra costa county sheriff because of the phone lines being cut over the weekend saturday, police arrested 2 suspects after they were caught using tools looking for copper inside of the phone wires still looking for the 3rd suspect. police expect the phone lines to be repaired by this morning. returning won't cause back to normal. and san mateo and santa clara county leaders. they're going to hold a press conference today calling on 18 t not to drop their landlines and lines offer telephone relay service for people that might have speech or hearing problems and

and affordable housing bond on the november ballot. it would place a 20 billion-dollar housing measure on this year's ballot. at 41,000 housing units with a majority of the homes being santa clara alameda, san francisco fall will be funded by property taxes depend on the size of the bond at 9.35. today leaders on the board will hold a final vote. that's at the bay area metro center in san francisco. santa claus, nearly 10 billion dollars more to slash homelessness across the bay. the research and policy nonprofit all home released a regional action plan dashboard shows about 9.5 billion dollars cut homelessness across our region by 75% over the next 5 years. in addition, the report says the region need to build 10,000 units of temporary housing. 47,000 permanent homes to prevent new homelessness moos said tomorrow on whether to put a 20 billion-dollar house he bought on that november ballot. it would fund 90,000 affordable housing units

>> all right. welcome back to the kron. morning news. we're talking about the forecast today. as you plan your outing with your loved ones. yesterday was a mixed bag today and think we're somewhere along the same. >> good morning, jen. just changes today from yesterday. definitely looking nicer, less humid, no more thunderstorms and a little bit cooler. >> so we're kind get back to our bay area. seasonal averages. you can see right here that we do have a little bit of fog streaming through the golden gate that fog up and down the coastline, though, is very dense this morning. and it is something that's actually resulting even a little bit of coastal drizzle up in the santa cruz mountains right along the shoreline right there. otherwise skies are clear enough out there to kick off this morning on the nice and cool. no, morning that you can step outside. get that joggin. not that today is going to be too terribly hot anyways. that's just kind nice to get some step out of the way

during these cool morning, times. we do have some fog sitting right over at sfo this morning. watch for potential delays there. this is some dense marine layer. it's going to take some time to burn off 70's to 80's for your daytime highs later today. no 90's and today's forecast, as for your roads, things are going fine out there on our bridges. we are seeing 8 minutes across the bay bridge heading into francisco counter commute directions heading eastbound into oakland. that's where we do actually have an accident. so do watch for that. but that is not affecting your travel into the city. something that is, though is we do have some emergency trackwork between macarthur and 19th street. oakland passengers. they're expecting around a 20 minute delay in the berryessa and sfo millbrae directions through downtown oakland. we do have red line service between millbrae and richmond being canceled. so do know that for bart commuters, san mateo bridge at 13 minutes to get you across right now. the richmond, sandra fell at 7

minutes. well, book at the golden gate bridge. 19 minutes to make crossing, right? all right, john, thank you for that. let's head to the east bay. >> tesla has been ordered to correct air quality violations at their plant in fremont. officials say violations are putting the public at risk. well, michael thomas line fremont with details. morning, michael. >> hi, good morning, everyone. according to officials with bay area air quality management, they say that tesla's received more than 100 of these violations since 2019, essentially leading up to these orders. take a look. this is video up on your screen. i break it all down for you now, according to officials with the air district, they say in total, it's been 112 era violation notices filed since 2019, adding that these violations are frequent recurring and can negatively affect the public health and environment, especially to those nearby the plant here in fremont, adding that the factories paint shop and it's toxic chemicals directly into the atmosphere,

adding that tesla does have air pollution control systems in place, but they're continuously breaking down or at times being shut down by people at the company due to other equipment problems. the order requires a test to hire a third-party consultant to evaluate and implement recommendations with approval from the board help protect the health and well-being of others living nearby. back out here live, we did send an e-mail over to test that. we have not heard back as of yet, but these orders are said to be put in place later today. that is the very latest ty michael thomas reporting in fremont. i will send it back to you live in the studio. all right, michael, thank for that update. there. learning more about that raid at oakland. mayor sheng tells home. >> kron four's terisa stasio talk to a former u.s. attorney about what could be happening behind the scenes. >> substantial to to ask for permission to invade someone's home to search for documents. and so i think that the government must reached a point in its investigation where it felt it had enough

evidence to go to the court to ask and let's be real. when you go to the court to ask to search the home of a sitting government official, there's there's no there's no doubt that the standard is even ephired. former u.s. attorney winston chan telling kron 4 news at the government must be far along in their case to conduct such a public grade. >> chan says agents were granted access to look for specific items and identified in an inventory list. that list was shared with sheng thao or her partner, andrea jones, who shares the home chan says that the warrant is based on agents believing a crime has occurred and that evidence will be found. >> you know, they reach some point in their that it makes sense for them to become public. so generally speaking, what that would mean is they spent a lot of time up until now working undercover, working in secret to try to figure out if the allegations that they have suspicions

about were true. and so now that they have whatever they detain from the from the home, trying match that up with what information they have trying to sources and seeing if things like the devices, the phones, the laptops, whatever papers they took corroborate information that they had to begin with. >> mayor thao has said publicly that her former attorney said that she was not the target of an investigation. but sources tell kron 4 news. it is too soon to say that. and it could mean that she is not the target yet. former u.s. attorney chan says it will probably be a while before we know the outcome of these raids, whether the evidence they were seeking is discovered and whether this could become an indictment with federal crimes involved. >> the possible to know for sure. but given that the searches were done in this public way, i would tend to think that if they are going to charges, should be rather than later. so we're talking about months, maybe weeks to but not years.

>> mayor thao is not announced. the name of her new attorney representing her. she did say that she had planned to meet with federal investigators to get to the bottom of the raid on her home. she also at a news conference on monday said that potentially possibly billionaires from piedmont as well as san francisco. we're working in connection with the fbi and they possibly could have been behind the raid on her home. in the newsroom. theresa kron, 4 news. >> eleanor, they a man was arrested in sanibel after police say he stabbed his mom several times. this happened just before one yesterday morning and apartment on fairfax street. police say the suspect identified as walt and billie on diaz was in the middle of the street yelling at officers as they arrive in telling them that he had night. police say they approached lyhow windy will comply. they say he grabbed his waistband where he said he had the knife. that's when police say they fired a non-legal sponge round at him and arrested him. his mother had to be taken to the

hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive. police say they learned the suspect gotten into an argument with his mother, which then escalated and stabbing her several times. police say he's facing several charges, including attempted murder, is being held behind bars. san jose man dead after crashing into a car and investigators say he was riding a stolen motorcycle when he ran a red light and crashed. this happened monday morning. the austrian alameda near 80. they say the driver of the car wasn't hurt. no word on where the motorcycle was stolen from. more than 3 dozen people incarcerated at the san francisco county jail, their isolation following a covid outbreak. the sheriff's office says the jail has 42 confirmed cases. the highest number being reported at the county jail number 30 in salon or san bruno officers. jail staff start seeing an uptick in covid cases last thursday.

houma police your help trying to find a woman who they say stole more than $1000 in merchandise. so this is who they're looking for. the incident happened on the night of june night, the old to on coleman boulevard. police say any information, give them a call. well, in the east bay, alameda, firefighters got control of a wildland fire. that's vincennes boulevard in erie could drive. that's right. between newark in fremont. the fire broke out around 4 yesterday. so far 34 acres have burned. at one point. the flames even spread towards that union pacific railroad track shutting down the trains. firefighters say pg e pacific railroad are dressing the damage from the fire. but trains are slowly passing through. thankfully, nobody was hurt. all lanes of 6.80, and highway to 42 now open in the east bay following a fire, a fully loaded garbage truck caught fire in that area yesterday. contra costa fire

protection, fire truck. it compressed natural gas road did not reopen till about 4.14, yesterday afternoon. anybody in san francisco now able to catch a ride in a driverless taxi. the company expects a lot of people to get long. one of these taxes in the city krogers leza gooden has reaction to that announcement. >> starting tuesday, anyone can now catch a driverless waymo robo taxi and san francisco. previously the service was only available to those who signed up on a waiting list. now waymo says their meeting in need by providing safer driving options. but some experts say only time will prove the technology is ready for the expansion. took them 3 years to get to the state open it everybody very careful about it. they they dealing with a lot of backlash because of some of the issues happening. so for me to say that they are or not, it's actually the that, you >> the jury is still out. san
