8:13 am
>> all right, live look outside from our sutro tower cam at the city of san francisco. gorgeous view and we can see karl, the fog to getting nice and early and to
8:14 am
join us on the news as well there. that's a good thing there, stephanie member, that's kind of a little climate control helping us out just a little bit. at least san francisco and also on the golden gate who are getting some of that aid as well. one of the things, at least it tells you is we've got that onshore wind. it continues to provide that marine cooled air. >> and blowing it to other parts of the bay. can't get inland too well, but at least we're getting some minor relief in some spots going forward here. so again, here's the golden gate bridge and engulfed in all of that fog futurecast for on that same note, you can see how the marine layer still kind of hangs out here during the day overnight. makes us past of the b y as we normally expected to make some progress cross kirk in a straight maybe little sprinkles at the coast and all of that. but the issue is that maybe perhaps by monday this could be a little more potent, particularly monday morning and maybe linger along the coast a little bit more. so look at that, trying scrounge up a couple raindrops there. there will be a nice little treat here. it is. the winds in the afternoon being driven by that inland heating. of course, we're going continue to see
8:15 am
that today tomorrow as we had all week. and that's much better certainly than having an offshore wind. although there is some of the way of that way, way up north just a little bit. so that's the position of this high that's really driving everything we expected to kind of come off its rocker a little bit towards the east that will give us a little breathing space into early next week. antioch, just jump to 79 right now as you can see. oh, yeah, it 71 for livermore. we've got east bay shoreline into the 60's. 56. meanwhile, santa rosa, 59 going on for san francisco. so more hot stuff going on today. 105 plus and lynn 90's covering the bay for sunday. it's still hot inland, but backing off a little bit. maybe getting some 80's for the bay 100 plus and learn all that next week. now, monday tuesday, particularly 90's and even some 80's poking out here and there the walnut creek, one even make 90 by that time on tuesday. so a little bit of minor relief happening before we shoot back to the century. mark again, for a lot of those inland spots. so that's one of the reasons whether weather service doesn't really pull
8:16 am
this because we're going to see a little more by the middle of the week. 77 san francisco, warm evening breeze coming in there. and you see still some cloud cover from the fog that 84 for oakland. 95. meanwhile, for san jose inland 100 plus there you have them all over with the purple still in place, east bay shoreline. very thin line. there are some 80's hanging out there and 90's. meanwhile, ahead, we've got more to come. 100 plus expected again. a little that a relief by monday. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you so much. right now, more than a dozen wildfires continue to burn across our state. this all happening in the middle of a major heat wave here in the bay area. we're following the fight against the toll fire in napa county, which is at 41 acres and is 60% contained. joining us live now is jason clay with cal fire. thanks so much for being here with us this morning. and good to see you again. >> good to see you. thank you for having us. of to get started here. let's talk a bit about the toll fire that is burning here in the bay area.
8:17 am
>> we understand that your team at just this morning to talk about this. can you share and update on how things are going there? >> yeah, so we just got down with our morning operational briefing and that's just the transition from are not crews to the station and kind of going over the tactics that will be looking at today. and so we're really working on a our goal toward that end 100% containment on that fire. we actually just bumped up 70%. a good buyers are looking really good. the concern is just any roll out because it's in very steep and rugged terrain. so rollout are any and burned or damaged fallen trees that could come down and get into unburned ground. that's the thing that we're working really hard to secure right now. but we're all about fires looking really good. we've had just a phenomenal amount of work that's gone from our firefighters to that. they work but not want to. >> yeah, absolutely. 70% containment. that is some good news there in terms of progress. and of course, we appreciate the team's being out there to really address this, sir, to fire and that really difficult terrain that
8:18 am
you just described there. you walk us through. also the situation that the firefighters are facing out there. we are, of course, in the middle of a heatwave. it can be pretty fighting these fires in these rough temperatures. what are they up against? >> well, that the temperatures and the terrain are the 2 hardest things that our firefighters are working right now. and we are stressing so much as a safety is our number one goal right now. so hydration protect its taking some tactical pauses throughout the day to our firefighters to get into some cool spots to keep themselves. i say let them recover a little bit as they work their their long shifts through this heat. but this is a part of the job and every sign up for and we give our firefighters a lot of resources. we brought cooling centers out we have our hydration mall that come out. so it's part of part of that rain and we're working really hard to like. i said earlier, just to get this one button up. >> and jason note, of course, it does take a collective
8:19 am
effort from the community to make sure that we've helped prevent wildfires from starting in the first what is the guidance to the public? you know, as more people start to head out those summer months, they're doing the barbecues. they're celebrating at the beaches. what can we all do collectively to keep our community safe from wildfires? yeah. are. >> you'll start the vegetation across the landscape is really dry. gone through this heat. i'm not just this current the spell, but we had a couple earlier in the year that's chart every thinned out really well. sometimes what we see is when we go through these peak heat people are may be receptive to get it now there and through the high temperatures. and so if we're going to have a little bit of a cool down next week, a little bit, maybe under the hundreds or even lower 1. 100's. and you have people that are wanted to get out and do something outdoors is just being very cautious that they're not anything that could spark a wildfire because if you get any spark out there on the dry landscape, you know, that could ignite very
8:20 am
quickly and the conditions that are under most fires can spread rapidly. so we just are urging the public to you very cautious when they're out. >> absolutely. and of communities in the bay area are going to be more susceptible to wildfire than others because you remind us why wildfire prevention and awareness is something that everyone should be paying attention to. >> you know, if you haven't done so already, you need to go in and sign up for emergency emergency alerts to the county that you live in final that you receive that information. and if you have it created your evacuation plan and knowing what to do if a wildfire were to strike near you. and we encourage you to go on to ready for wildfire dot org. and our website has just the kind of information that can help prepare you for the threat wildfire. what to do. one strikes with are good then after wildfire. so it takes a lot of prep in advance

mega fires up further up in northern california, like the dixie fire, the caldor fire in the sierra just a few years ago. so jason, could walk us through the fire outlook for the rest of the what is cal-fire forecasting? >> as we get into where the july now and into the fall months. you know, given the state of our pupils most all of california, not just the barrier. northern california know it's it's really dry. and those fields are going remain receptive to both mission and to fire spread. so it could be case where we're looking at and above average fire season. we've gone through really the last to 3 years where we've got mild fire seasons. we had a long stretch, particularly in the north bay and 2015 to just an onslaught of destructive wildfires had that

>> welcome back kron 4 morning news. good morning, everybody. that's our sutro camera shot to show the fog is retreating a little bit from last hour as you can see for san francisco. from that perspective thore. but keep in mind here that although you can always see it, we are getting some influence of that marine layer spilling into the east bay shoreline. this shot coming in from our mount tam picture. and again shows more of the kind of the breath of the fog that we haven't had a thin layer is you will as well because right above us, there is very warm. of course, that's very buoyant. so to get vpthis mixing process is it's a little bit of a pain in the to do that. and that's a good thing because that means that something the heat wave has to fight a little bit, giving us some relief in places around the immediate bay. but ultimately we're going to see those numbers start to really start moving later on today. here's so far the effort, 79
8:45 am
for antioch, 71 livermore. 68 going on for concord, east bay shoreline. still snug in the 60's up north santa rosa. 59 though, and 55 for half moon bay. so this is all in place that we talked about. the excessive heat warning. that's again through wednesday, even though we get a little bit of a break monday into tuesday and then the shows you just the wider death of all of that way down to southern california. they should probably start to see some relief. however, maybe before wednesday with that low, we talked about getting us some minor relief as well. and the reason that will back off of this is because we get to the middle of the week and then on where we're going to be back to 100 or so. so i just keep the awareness in place here. red flag warning for the higher elevations as we talked about because not only when you get upstairs, is it warmer? it's also much drier as well. and that marine layer has trouble getting up to the higher elevations. therefore, you have that problem, not to mention. you also have winds that to deal with as well. so the high pressure is in place for the day tomorrow. early part of the week. a kind of breaks down a little bit. this low really doesn't do much of
8:46 am
anything. some of the earlier model say maybe it will scrounge a couple showers for the mountains. looks like from our point perspective, that won't happen. but we get a minor break. then that high comes back again here. i mean, take a hint you, ok, finding tough to the stage here as we get to the end of the week. and here we can see the week influences of a front way up towards the north week. but again, it's enough to break the back of what we're dealing with. so today, make no mistake about it. the hottest in the bunch. 77 san francisco, some 70's at the coast with some 60's thrown in for good measure. 84 burlingame, 87 foster city back the 90's. we going to head south 92 for redwood ciiy, 93 for palo alto in the south bay mid-nineties 105. morgan hill, 101 los gatos. tri valley are looking at numbers approaching 105, are a bit better. east bay shoreline. lower 90's appearing here and there 104, for walnut creek, 105, conquered 83 for berkeley. what about an 85? again, although it may be modest, a little bit of that onshore wind is helping vacaville 108.
8:47 am
wow, 103, for fairfield. 98 for napa and 103. for santa rosa. it looks lonely in the middle of the sport. almost here. upper 90's here back to the triple digits, though we get to run wednesday thursday and into friday until it seems like that that point we can permanently retire all this. wow. this is just taking a bit of a breather on monday. tuesday comes back again. so now remind us again mean, this is pretty notable here. >> was it like this? at the same time last year? i don't know what have to look at the records to see. but i think that this is that the one thing is that this tends to happen later in the summer. not this early. yeah, more of an august september thing. and also by that point, you have a warmer ocean which we don't have. we have a cooler ocean. so the contrast as may be helping a little bit and that onshore wind is very, very weak. but it still is good in the east bay shore because your numbers are much lower than they would be if there was no bay. okay. do you know about it? all right. well, that's good information there. another important reminder that we've got to stay safe
