kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it's sunday, july. the 21st. let's get your morning. started with a look at the weather with mister day by day. a good morning, stephanie. good morning. everybody. our traditional fog checking in again and this will feel pretty good of the day. if you folks inland getting a little bit of a break before we turn the heat yet up again into next week. now, the first things first. yes, we have that fog and also in a stubborn place that it sometimes rest that is sfo about a half-hour delay with all of this. but there's the visuals you get there. it looks like the hills in the background are all covered up right now. speaking of that fog appeals way for the most part, but along the coast and particularly the peninsula speech, pacifica, half moon bay. you're going to be fighting some considerable clouds today. is that a fog clouds kind of raise? now, here's what we're looking for next week. monday through wednesday, excessive heat warning covering portions of the bay. meanwhile, heat

advisory is covering a lot the north bay there into the santa cruz mountains. again, that's the heat advisory that you see in the oranges there. now, the they're kind all around, if you will, and somewhat variable. but the general trend is a little bit of a breeze, even at this early hour. so that's nice to see temperature check for you. a lot of 50's on the board. 69 antioch in this compares to yesterday by several degrees below where we were this time from yesterday. so it's kind of an auspicious beginning, if you will, 70 for 11 even looks good at 2 o'clock about 80 still be hot in spots today. we'll talk about him getting hot next week. more on that forecast of that stuff. all right, dave, thank you for my police responded to a deadly shooting. >> around one 30 saturday afternoon, it happened in the area of la's deal way and nichols avenue officers found a wounded man there. the victim later died at the scene. a kron 4 viewer who lives in the area says they heard at least a dozen shots fired. as you can see in the video, several cars were also

towed from the scene. will continue to update you as we learn more from police. suspect is in custody for a highway shooting in oakland. it happened on highway. 24 and let's take a look at the weapons here. these are guns recovered by police during the arrest. chp says the shooting happened on the eastbound lanes near the acalanes road off-ramp on june 16. investigators say gunshots rang out after 2 cars crashed in a road rage incident after months of investigation. officers arrested a suspect on attempted murder charges. nearly 70 pounds of meth confiscated during a traffic stop in napa county. the chp says canine champ picture there helped find the drugs valued at around $250,000. police still investigating this morning. and police busted 3 illegal indoor marijuana growing operations in fairfield. investigators issuing more than 1.3 million dollars in fines. fairfield police say they also found

hazardous materials at the site. francisco police are looking for the suspects involved in robbing a cleaning crew at a popular lgbtq nightclub. it happened thursday at oasis in the city. so neighborhood, the club says a cleaning crew had wallets, phones and other belongings stolen by the time police arrived. the robbers had already taken off. the leases says, but the group also trashed the building. the owner says he's grateful for the community support. >> you know, its people have been incredible and i'm reminded over and over how well i may be. the owner of the space of really is the community's space because every time we have needed something people would really stood up and, you know, we put a start, a gofundme to to help take care of the employees that were robs and also too, you know, fix fix everything that broken upgrade our security system and people have shown up so quickly. and we've we've searched totally surpassed our original goal,

which is really going to help us in the long run to make a safer spot. >> a 14 year-old faces potential hate crime charges after he allegedly damaged a pride flag from the lgbtq+ building in half moon bay, san mateo county sheriff's deputies say the teenager forcibly remove the flag friday night from the front of coast pride center building witnesses identified him. the suspect was given a citation and released to his parents. the case is under review by the da's office. and we're tracking a wildfire out of calusa and lake counties winds fueling the ridge fire pictured there. evacuation orders now in place for wilbur hot springs. this fire is now at 2500 acres. cal fire reports it is about 10% contained. another developing story we're following more than 200 pg e customers in the east left in the dark saturday evening in response to the

hot, windy weather conditions and elevated fire risk pg and e issue in power shut offs around 4 o'clock saturday. the average is now affecting small parts of alameda contra costa and san joaquin counties. on the heels of the global it outage that grounded flights friday. transportation secretary pete buttigieg posted an important reminder. he said, quote, i am hearing reports of some airlines only offering flight credits to passengers for canceled flights. let me be clear. you are entitled to get your money back promptly if your flight is canceled and you don't take a rebooking, he went on to say, let us know if they failed to provide one. and a live look now outside at sfo. a lot calmer at the airport today after friday's tech outage. as as of 6.30, this morning, just 59 flights face delays and 60 canceled. we're going to continue to monitor those numbers and bring you the latest numbers throughout the morning newscast and

cybersecurity company crowdstrike is being blamed for that global. a tech outage that affected not only airports but also health care systems, banks and government agencies. the texas based company says a defective software upgrade led to the problem. francisco firefighters are warning voters of strong winds and gusts up to 40 miles per hour. those conditions could cause boats to capsize. the warning remains in effect from point raise to pigeon point until monday morning. guns taken off the streets of oakland will soon be broken down into gardening tools. people turn and handguns and rifles to police on saturday in exchange for cash. no questions asked. the event was hosted by the violence prevention program, guns to gardens organizers melt those weapons down and turn them into tools like shovels. >> try to bring something destructive guns are i'm but something that's potentially destructive in exchange for

something that create renewal or green. >> and people who turned in guns got up to $300 back. on saturday. dozens volunteers gather to beautify san francisco. they worked in the marina. how hollow and pacific heights area planting new trees picking up litter and painting over graffiti. this part of san francisco public works neighborhood beautification day. and the hayes valley carnival return for 113 year on saturday. service bella, open the show. lots of people out there, as you can see, organizers created the event to celebrate the strength of san francisco after the 19 0, 6, earthquake. people enjoyed carnival games. live music. lots of good food. this is video from state senator scott wiener. and we know that mayor london breed was also there. with great

weather out there as well. also at san francisco, shakespeare in the park returns the season kicking off with a show at the memorial tonight at 6. they also perform in redwood city and san francisco over the next few weeks. all shows are free. the truth is performing the tempest. today kicks off the annual san francisco aids walk. raise millions of dollars for aids research since it started in 1987. and today kicks off the 37th annual event. well, first of adidas is live for us san francisco with the latest out there. and tiffany, from the looks of your jacket, it's looking like the start of a pretty cold out there. >> yeah. starting out. pretty cool today. hopefully this fog will burn off shortly. you know, the starting 9 in 1987 in san franciscans have been gathering at this park ever since for aids walk. you can see many of the volunteers right behind us sitting at the tables and the tense. this walk has inspired thousands of

bay area residents walk, donate, volunteered to fight against hiv and aids. this walk is northern california's largest and most visible aids fundraising event. it was in july of 1987 carrying people came together here at golden gate park for the very first aid walk. san francisco, many driven by friends or family members who are becoming sick or dying in alarming numbers. organizers say this is a time to come together once more remembering those we lost him to show solidarity and support for those who are still fighting. you can still donate online at sf aids walk, dot net. this fundraising event benefits. i divide diverse group of organizing organization throughout the bay area. each bringing essential programs to the community. so what is going to happen this morning at 10 o'clock this morning, the festivities pre walk. the city's will start at 10 o'clock. the 5 k walk will begin. but at 8 o'clock so in a short time, breakfast will

>> 2 beaches in placer county remain closed to the public today after 85,000 gallons of untreated sewage spilled into lake tahoe. utility officials say private contractor hit a main sewer pipeline around 8 thursday night causing the sewage to spill into the car. woods grill in pier crews managed to clean 40,000 gallons worth of that sewage, but a significant amount. 85,000 gallons still reached the lake. >> i'm just devastated. i've been coming here for 50 years

since 1970, you know, keep tahoe everyone has a bumper sticker. so ironic that this has occurred and this magnitude. >> well, connie lee abe weston patton landing beaches remain closed to the public until further notice. county environmental workers say the sewage contains high levels of bacteria which could make people sick. >> and this comes to lake tahoe beaches were just tested for harmful algae blooms. that's after a dog reportedly died after swimming in the water over the july 4th weekend. testing showed that the beaches did not show signs of having toxins related to those harmful blooms. but a shallow pond not connected to the lake did have low levels levels of a toxin and advisory has been issued for the backwater pond at nevada beach. taking a look now at the san francisco skyline from our mount tam camera. gorgeous view at 7.15 this morning. dave, what do you keep an eye

on? >> okay, stephanie, good morning and good morning, everybody. we're going to probably see that fog be a little bit aggressive at the coast. now we see it happening here along the east bay shoreline. this eventually will rip off and clear out for us. however, along the coast, though, in your travels, particularly around the peninsula, you're going to see a lot of that cloud cover kind of linger a bit. it will have effect effect on temperatures as well. we're at 70 going on for antioch right now. 58 for livermore. 59 conquered east bay shoreline, upper 50's. not a big surprise. there was some lower 50's. meanwhile, up north stormtracker 4, not much to see. this is pretty much what's left over again with the continuation of the afternoon and evening thundershowers that we'll see again this afternoon. once we get some daytime heating that will be in our local mountains as well. as for today, the mountains up around town so forth. here's the onshore wind pop for you right there across the carquinez strait. little bit going to the north as well. then we get to tomorrow and look at the wind pattern happening here. boy, that's very compressed happening

across the carquinez strait. not so much happening in the west because we're actually be losing those morrison, not the quins. this is going to be more local winds with the high now kind of locking us in place, futurecast for. i have a sneeze coming. that's what that's all about. all right. let's go forward with this. notice the laying along the coast here, boy, that fog and clouds just don't want to left today. rest the bay. you're going ok? so do want to make that addendum that we do have that aggressive fog. it's going to linger in parts near the coast. in your travels today with heating up in the mountains get those scattered showers. that's typical. and we go into tomorrow. same deal with the fog in the morning. but don't let that fool you because going to be plenty hot. that's when the advisories go into effect that we've been talking about tomorrow morning. there again is the rain coverage you can see in the mountains today. we're back to that again. now cloudy at the coast, sunny inland. you'll see some sun coming out in the afternoon of the coast. but just remember that fog a bit more aggressive hot inland with a few spots still about 90. but this is an

morning news. 80 years later, remembering the lives of those killed during world war. 2 at the port of chicago. and airlines still recovering this morning after a major tech outage grounds. hundreds of flights. a look at the latest delays and cancellations. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news 7.29. this morning. >> let's get this half-hour started with a check of our forecast with dave spahr. >> hey, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. still going to be a plenty toasty, but we're getting a little bit of relief happening today. and that will be also well was from yesterday. so we'll continue this a little bit today. you can see the fog already doing its action, however, next week, make no mistake about it. we're going to be hot, hot, hot yet again. here's a shot of half moon bay and the

overcast skies that will improve a little bit this afternoon. not quite as clear as that we've seen certainly not from the week ahead. there's the battle ground. you're going to see him talk a little bit more about that. and just a little bit. but the week coming up ahead, we know the heat spikes coming, but it will break down fairly quickly. that's the good news. there's the onshore winds in place has been kind of breezy overnight and they're a good clip. you can see there double digits across the region. we're at 70 for antioch, most readings in the upper 50's now just about everywhere, except some 60's down south. and the contrast to yesterday were a couple degrees behind yesterday's readings. so it's a already off to a cooler start. i'm using this because i want to note that marine layer look how it just kind of get stuck there along the peninsula. little bit. so you have some cloud cover this afternoon and it just won't completely clear getting into monday. yeah, it starts to clear out a little bit and that's we start to get but the heat spike we've been talking about the breakdown for you today. we're going to do about a 70 or so by 11 by 2 ad. there will be some 90's

readings to be had. there are going to show you that in the 4 zone forecast coming up. also take a look at the weather pattern next week, which does show the heat spike and also shows how it breaks down for us all and you, stephanie. all right, dave, thanks so much. >> on saturday, the national park service. it marked the 80th anniversary of the port chicago explosion. the moment honoring the lives of 320 people killed that day during world war. 2, more than 200 victims were black sailors on saturday, we spoke with one of the children of the sailors who died, who never got to meet her father. >> remembering how a 4 year old had questions about the death of her father. and there are no answers. i'm remembering how in 1990, to 95. i researched looking for answers regarding the explosion. and then that's when i learned about the men with the work stoppage that been charged with mutiny. and so today is a momentous

because it gives me an opportunity and everybody around gets to know the story to optimize the entire story. not just part of beginning with loss of lives for the man in the explosion and then the exoneration of men who refuse work under the same conditions after picking up body and so these men have a special place in my heart. >> and as she just mentioned there, 50 survivors were found guilty of mutiny for refusing to go back to work in unsafe conditions. and they were later found to be unjustly punished. kron four's noelle bellow has more on that. >> there's no question why this former naval base is called port chicago winds on the shoreline. tell that story. well. the story of the hundreds of servicemen lost their lives at this site 18 years ago isn't as well known. >> this story has been kind of swept under the rug during

world war. 2 navy sailors were sent to port chicago on the southern banks of sassoon bay. >> the base was racially segregated commanding officers were all white and the sailors were all black. those sailors were tasked with loading ammunition onto liberty ships, transporting cargo in arms to the war zones. 2000 pound blockbusters, all warheads for tom peters. 60 project is and anything in between. it was a task. no one on the base was properly trained for. >> and i tore my my officer several times that that one day this stuff is going to explode. it was, if it does. >> you or i will know anything about it. >> and on july, 17th 1944, that's exactly what happened. at 10:18pm, to deafening explosions ripped through the base, blowing 2 ships out of the water and instantly killing 320 202 of them were

black sailors. >> certain rules and a few seconds. green, the light. second. >> in 1990, kron 4 produced a documentary called port chicago mutiny, a national tragedy. 3 survivors shared their stories. u.s. navy men, joseph small, percy robinson and robert route junior for robert. the explosion was the last thing he ever saw. >> i was laying in my bed with my head resting on looking in this direction and explosion came from this work so hard, you know, obviously raised up and look towards exposure. flying glass concussion. i left i was. so badly lacerated that it was removed that night. people screaming.

>> the second floor coming down. he so much some kind of >> for survivors like percy robinson, the horrors of the next hours and days were tough to recall as they were now fully aware of the dangers of the job. not long after the tragedy, the navy ordered the sailors to resume their work without addressing the hazardous conditions. joseph small was one of 50 black sailors eventually known as the port chicago, 50, who refused to go back. >> and he asked the question is small. are you going back to work? and i said no, sir.

and where the is it him somebody over in the ranks said a small don't go. we're not accused of conspiring together. the navy responded by charging the group with mutiny. >> during the trial it was revealed their white officers had imposed a competition at the port betting on whose group of black sea men could blow the munitions. fastest despite the disturbing details of conditions on the base being revealed, all 50 service men were found guilty. >> we had not even thought of the word knew it had not up. >> though they were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. the men were all released quietly about a year later. they were, however, order to finish their terms with the navy scrutiny from the disaster and trial did eventually lay the groundwork for reform. the navy put safety practices in place. and despite originally being the most rigidly segregated military branch, the u.s. navy became the first to desegregate 2 years later in 1946. today, wooden posts

from the original loading dock. still stand above the bay waters marking the port chicago naval magazine national memorial. the solemn site holds with it a sense of immense loss but also serves as a place of reflection and a reminder to never forget the men port chicago perry. >> inspirational stories to folks in that they want to know they want to help get >> our noelle bellow reporting that story for us. and now to a live look at sfo are it's a lot calmer today after that catastrophic global tech outage on friday that led to hundreds of flight disruptions in the bay area. but as of 6.30, this we see about 59 flight delays and 60 cancellations. so some progress being made there. we're going to keep on

tracking those numbers for you throughout our morning newscasts. and cybersecurity company. crowdstrike being blamed for the issues here that affected not just the airports but also health care systems, banks and government agencies. the texas based company says a defective software upgrade led to that issue. and a lawsuit against san francisco police alleges the department has been violating a facial recognition ban. the group behind the lawsuit claims the technology also fails to accurately identify people. kron four's gayle ong reports. >> we had 2 whistleblowers come to us with documents showing that the problem is more widespread than the police admitted to more officers are involved. there's been more more uses or or requests for other agencies to run as technology on their behalf. brian hofer is the executive director of secure justice, a nonprofit that advocates against government overreach. >> the group filed a lawsuit on tuesday against the city and county of san francisco

alleging the use of facial recognition technology, which is banned in 2019. they have 42. >> pieces of surveillance technology that do not have approved these policies for them. those were due for years ago. i have bent over backwards trying negotiate with and trying to work with chief sky and they're just flat out refuse to comply with laws. so we need a court order. the lawsuit also accuses the city and county of san francisco. >> failed to submit annual reports and provide required information in annual reports. the suit alleges facial recognition technology is known for not accurately identifying individuals with darker tones and different genders. there are also concerns about hundreds of cases at risk for dismissal. if there are brady violations when a prosecutor fails to provide a defendant with evidence could be favorable in their case. >> a lot of these technologies simply don't work. so that raises the question, is this technology even affected at

well, good morning. welcome everybody. back to the kron. 4 morning news. couple little droplets. also on the lens camera. this the sutro picture and i didn't have time to go in pain to with skyline. looks like. >> but the deal here is the camera is literally in the fog and this layer of fog. the problem is the arab of us. yes, it's drier, but it's also much warmer. so it's hard to get this relatively dense air to get up. so it's going to have to mix out a little bit. and that's a slower process when the air right above us is a bit warmer. or rather not as dry as it was from yesterday. so that's on little minor distinction. it's a much better picture here. how about this coming in from yosemite national park? that could get an afternoon little stray shower at work here in the program. but in tahoe, expect 85 86 to wednesday about 81.

the real heat spike not being felt the same way. there are at least in the mid 80's. so warm short sleeve shirt weather. bring the bug spray. meanwhile, the home front, the excessive heat watch warning business. what we have this is the excessive heat warning you can see there. this is through monday through wednesday until 11:00pm. there you see in the south bay, it extends out about morgan hill or so. but then that's the heat advisory, which is also up here in the north bay as well. so good coverage area. the only thing is the peninsula is not in this in san francisco is not in this and their little spots here. and there up in the north bay, east bay shoreline. your steering clear of this as well. but still a lot of folks are going to be bacon this yet again across most of the rockies there you can see some scattered showers at work here. that will be the case today. once we had some daytime heating right there in the spine of our mountains is about for this western extension of that drought. how we don't you heard about that while back member? well, we are doing pretty good except at the yesterday, skilled dry

thousands of bay area residents to walk, donate and volunteer to fight against hiv and aids. this walk is northern california's largest and most visible aids fundraising event. it was in july of 1987. people came together here at golden gate park for the very first aids walk. san francisco, many driven by friends or family members who are becoming sick or dying in alarming rates. organizers say that this is a time to come together. once more remembering those we lost and to show solidarity and support to those who are still fighting. you can still donate online at sf aids walk, dot net. this fundraising event benefits of a diverse group of organizations throughout the bay area. each bringing essential programs to the community. >> you know, it's it's very important for many different reasons. one of the reasons horton to remember the people that we've lost. we're going to have a lot of the panels of the boat out here today. right behind us is a national memorial road where people can walk through some dedications of people that we've lost.

extended forecast of it. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. olympics fever is starting this summer and we are so pleased today to have an olympian join us on set on meet the lore is from walnut creek 20 years old. she's already an eight-time world champion and the youngest female wrestler on team usa. thank you so much for joining us this morning. of course, thank you for having me and congratulations on your huge achievement and for making history. and how does it feel? feels incredible. it's been my dream to go to the olympics ever since. i can remember. >> and i actually leave tomorrow to feeling so unreal right now. it's incredible. you're all packed and ready to go home after this and keep backing. but yeah, yeah. and so you were born and raised in walnut creek. yes, yeah. i was wet. what age did you start training for wrestling? actually started that for years old. wow. yeah. and and

what was it about wrestling that really appealed to. chair. my older brother started wrestling first and i would watch him and it just looks so fun like i couldn't stand watching him. i wanted to step on. the man wrestled him guess it's just something natural that came from me just wanting to wrestle in wanting to be and set. you have a trademark move as well. i think i'm known for my 2 on one below 2 hands on one. it's a type of tie that used to get to other tax. okay. to use that on your brother too. yeah, i do lot bigger than me like to 20 but sometimes on i will wrestle him end a tell us to about just the process of training and getting ready. and just that grind year-over-year. yeah, it's been a lot. but luckily we have a huge team supporting us. a lot of people from strength coaches to nutritionists and sports psychologist and everything. so it's really cool to be on team usa and just have all of the support. and what does it take to qualify for team usa and wrestling? so it is a complicated process. you don't

you not only need to win the olympic trials, but you also have to qualify or wait for the olympics and my weight. 68 kilos was not qualified. so earlier this year, i had to do the rest law and then i went to night compete in acapulco qualified. they're wound. then later on, i went to the olympic trials in april. so it's been a process. and what is the mindset that you have as you're getting ready for these different qualifying events? you're because it can get pretty tough. i imagine just the level of competition you're up against. i think i just need remind myself why i'm doing this. i love wrestling and it should be fun it's difficult. but it should be a fun process. so i just tell myself that that extra stress and pressure is not going to help me do any better. i just want to go and i want to enjoy the yeah, so important and walk us through as well as just the different types of training and perhaps the diet that's also involved with qualifying for team usa. so that will vary depending on the person is different for our training lately has been a

lot of peeking. so we'll have one hard week, medium week, low weekend. it's all kind of calculated to make it so that we are at our very best by the time competition. and as far as diet, i think wrestling is known for having to cut weight and not having to constantly lose weight. so for me, it's just been maintaining a healthy, balanced diet and also adjusting that depending on training on the day, a train a lot. i would probably eat more. so it's kind of things like other particular is there a particular coach or your parents people that to have really played a big role in your life when it comes to shaping your wrestling career. but you'd like to send a message out to. >> hands down my mom. my mom has been my biggest support ever since i can remember. and she is actually here. yeah. i mean, today is she ever since i was little she would always help me. chase. after different wrestling opportunities. fly with me to other states for us in competitions and everything. so really lucky to have and i don't think i would be here today if it wasn't for support. it's so wonderful. we

have the support of parents is cheering us on and really of believing in our ability. and of course, you work so hard to as well to to get to where you are today. >> what are you looking forward to the most when you get to paris? >> oh, my gosh. i mean, i'm looking for to seeing olympic village. i have no idea what that's going to look like. and then. definitely after competition, i'm looking for to all the pastries. i'm going to nice. i am the very first one. i start on august 5th, which is when wrestling begins. i compete august 5, 6. and so after that, all of my teammates will compete on the following day. so i've never been the very first to compete. so i'm excited. and that also means i will be able to actually enjoy watching wrestling because a lot of times athletes don't get to appreciate their own sport because they're so focused on the competition. >> what's after the olympics for you think? my gosh. i mean, i think for a lot of olympians were just so focused on this one thing that it's hard to imagine what comes after. and that is a common challenge for us. >> and i've never been to olympics before. so i guess i'm going to see how that

goes. but one thing for sure is i really would like to travel a lot. there's a lot of places i want to visit. and i i really do enjoy traveling and seeing the any aspirations for the ufc? no, i'm not not tune into striking, but i do. i do love playing a variety of sports and i'm not against but i probably would never try to be on >> so on your, of course, again making history, the youngest female wrestler on team usa, a trailblazer in so many ways. a lot of young women looking up to you. any advice, any guidance there? >> my gosh. i mean, don't be afraid to dream i would always tell people i want to go and picks out us, feel embarrassed or nervous to tell them that because i felt like it was just so far out of reach to go up somebody and say, hey, i want to go to olympics, want to be an olympic champion. but i've always told that to myself and here i am today, leaving tomorrow to paris to come pmi very first james can become reality for sure. all

whole bay. 72 already for antioch. but most reading still maintain in the 50's with some 60's here. and there we are trailing in all locations, as you can see by some cases more than half-a-dozen degrees. so off to a good start. let's try. 73 going on by high noon bite. 3 o'clock about 83. but we do see some readings that will be still in the 90's. we'll take a look at that 4 zone forecast again for the break on sunday today. and then investigate what you can expect for the weekend. hit 70 say thank you. >> on saturday, the national park service marked the 80th anniversary of the port chicago explosion. that moment honoring the lives of 320 people killed that day during world war. 2, more than 200 of the victims were black sailors on saturday, we spoke with one of the children of those sailors who died who never got to meet her father. >> remembering how a 4 year old had questions about the death of her father. and there are no answers. i'm remembering how in 1990, to

95. i researched looking for answers regarding the explosion. and then that's when i learned about the men with the work stoppage that been charged with mutiny. and so today is a momentous because it gives me an opportunity and everybody around gets to know the story to optimize the entire story. not just part of beginning with loss of lives for the man in the explosion and then the exoneration of men who refuse work under the same conditions after picking up body and so these men have a special place in my heart. >> 50 survivors were found guilty of mutiny for refusing to go back to work in those unsafe conditions. as we just heard there, they were later found to be unjustly punished. kron four's noelle bellow reports. >> there's no question why this former naval base is called port chicago winds on

the shoreline. tell that story. well. the story of the hundreds of servicemen lost their lives at this site 18 years ago isn't as well known. >> this story has been kind of swept under the rug during world war. 2 navy sailors were sent to port chicago on the southern banks of sassoon bay. >> the base was racially segregated commanding officers were all white and the sailors were all black. those sailors were tasked with loading ammunition onto liberty ships, transporting cargo in arms to the war zones. 2000 pound blockbusters, all warheads for tom peters. 60 project is and anything in between. it was a task. no one on the base was properly trained for. >> and i tore my my officer several times that that one day this stuff is going to explode. his answer was, if it does. >> you or i will know anything about it. >> and on july, 17th 1944, that's exactly what happened.

at 10:18pm, to deafening explosions ripped through the base, blowing 2 ships out of the water and instantly killing 320 202 of them were black sailors. >> certain rules and a few seconds. green, the light. second. >> in 1990, kron 4 produced a documentary called port chicago mutiny, a national tragedy. 3 survivors shared their stories. u.s. navy men, joseph small, percy robinson and robert route junior for robert. the explosion was the last thing he ever saw. >> i was men in my bed with my head resting on looking in this direction and explosion came from this work so hard. you know, obviously, if you raised up and look towards exposure. flying glass and

concussion. i left i was. so badly lacerated that it was removed that night. people screaming. >> the second floor coming down. he could that. so much far. some kind >> for survivors like percy robinson, the horrors of the next hours and days were tough to recall as they were now fully aware of the dangers of the job. not long after the tragedy, the navy ordered the sailors to resume their work without addressing the

hazardous conditions. joseph small was one of 50 black sailors eventually known as the port chicago, 50, who refused to go back. >> and he asked the question is small. are you going back to work? and i said no, sir. and where is it him somebody over in the ranks said a small don't go. we're not accused of conspiring together. the navy responded by charging the group with mutiny. >> during the trial it was revealed their white officers had imposed a competition at the port betting on whose group of black sea men could blow the munitions. fastest despite the disturbing details of conditions on the base being revealed, all 50 service men were found guilty. >> we had not even thought of the word knew it had not come up. >> though they were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. the men were all released quietly about a year later. they were, however, order to finish their terms with the navy scrutiny from the disaster and trial did eventually lay the

groundwork for reform. the navy put safety practices in place. and despite originally being the most rigidly segregated military branch, the u.s. navy became the first to desegregate 2 years later in 1946. today, wooden posts from the original loading dock. still stand above the bay waters marking the port chicago naval magazine national memorial. the solemn site holds with it a sense of immense loss but also serves as a place of reflection and a reminder to never forget the manafort. chicago perry. >> inspirational stories to folks in that they want to know they want to help get >> noelle bellow reporting for us there. and now at 8.36. this morning, a live look at sfo where it's a lot calmer today after that catastrophic global tech outage on friday,

which led to hundreds of flight disruptions in the bay area as of 8.25. this morning. so just about 10 minutes ago, we see 97 flight delays and 63 cancellations. cybersecurity firm crowdstrike being blamed for the issues on the global it outage that affected not just airports but also health care systems, banks and government agencies. the texas based company says a defective software upgrade led to the problem. a lawsuit against san francisco police alleges the department has been violating a facial recognition ban. the group behind the lawsuit claims the technology also fails to accurately identify people. >> was gail ong reports? >> we had 2 whistleblowers come to us with documents showing that the problem is more widespread than the police admitted to more officers are involved. there's been more more uses or or requests for other agencies to run the technology on their

behalf. brian hofer is the executive director of secure justice, a nonprofit that advocates against government overreach. >> the group filed a lawsuit on tuesday against the city and county of san francisco alleging the use of facial recognition technology, which is banned in 2019. they have 42. >> pieces of surveillance technology that do not have approved these policies for them. those were due for years ago. i have bent over backwards trying negotiate and trying to work with chief sky and they're just flat out refuse to comply with laws. so we need a court order. the lawsuit also accuses the city and county of san francisco. >> failed to submit annual reports and provide required information in annual reports. the suit alleges facial recognition technology is known for not accurately identifying individuals with darker tones and different genders. there are also concerns about hundreds of cases at risk for dismissal. if there are brady violations

here's a look at that big map that i keep pointing out here. the oranges indicate ix tease advisory. we have an excessive heat warning that's over the east bay hills, the east face shoreline strip doesn't seem to be in this right now. they may add this and changes a little bit as a get a closer look. but they're just looking at how each event plays out in this one. looks like will be some insulation from those onshore winds certainly covers the peninsula. you can see there and san francisco up to the north bay there. again, that heat advisory, good piece of real estate cover just about everybody in there. so generally speaking, we're talk about the east bay with excessive heat warning in the north bay is where most of the heat advisory is uncovering. also a little bit in the south bay. meanwhile, across all the rockies, scattered showers and thunder showers. it's july very, very typical in this latitude in this part of the world. as we start to get a little bit that monsoon, which spills a little bit into california via our mountains. and that's all compliments of daytime heating. so the players we know well, this high that eats its own press agent, it's been around forever today. i know now it's

going to take the spotlight again as we start things off again, early into the week here. and that's we're going to see numbers start to really move. that means triple digits for monday into tuesday. perhaps send it wednesday as well. i see you down. they're going to be a player coming up here. come on. come on, get up there. get up here and push that aside friday. look at that. now during the winter months, this will bring us rain. but this time of year, this is a sweet weather pattern occurring here. as you can see, it really brings in the onshore flow. it really helps out the atmosphere so we can breathe at this point with the high overhead. you have all that falling, aaron. it's just hard to get an emotion air. you get some local winds occasionally because the inland heating, but that's about all she wrote. looks good into the weekend and into the following week. that's not bad to see that pattern in july like that. so there is some hope. and this longer range forecast got to get through a couple rough days, though. 69 san francisco. and if you're headed to the coast and particularly along the peninsula and so forth speech, pacifica, you got lower 60's. sure. but you got that strong wind all day today and some of

the way that fog will be some scattered clouds. so that may have a different type of oppression for us. 73 for burning again. 75 foster city palo out to about 79 for the south bay will be in the lower 80's. 88 for morgan hill, east bay shoreline, mid 70's tri valley, upper 80's. 86 for walnut creek. i did say that some 90's. yeah. but not here. looks like will be some 90 88 concord. 71 berkeley, big distinction, though, between the 2 locations. 89 fairfield, 70 to allay 85 napa and 96 for santa rosa hours. still, that's the hot spot. alright, we improve here after this. i'm sorry. and the latter portion of the week here friday. 85 87 going on saturday. still working on exact numbers here. but you get a general idea. heat spike as monday, tuesday and wednesday, stephanie, those would be the dog days of summer. yes, absolutely day. and that's the perfect segue into our next segment here. >> this month, adoption fees are waived at hundreds of animal shelters across the country. and it's all part of

definitely. but we have kittens and puppies like dogs and small dogs, guinea, pigs, pigeons throughout it. everything a little bit of everything. tell us about jobs in his story. well, came to oz. his owner could no longer keep him. and so now it's our duty to find him a new home. he spent the night with me last night. he is a real good cuddle he is adorable. so sweet, so well behaved nobody look at that. i contacted my goodness. very smart and tell us a bit about his personality to is he good with other with kids? yeah, he's pretty much been good with everybody, though, that when i've had him with me. he doesn't go to our playgroups. we do have playgroups for the more rambunctious he doesn't really need a lot of play if you want a more active shot, we definitely have options for that. but shoves really just wants to hang out with fun all

little pause on hot asphalt can be a problem to walk through more shaded areas and make sure they there's always water available. carry something with you. if if you don't normally around here, this is the time to to bring a water bottle with you for your pet and some very good and never leave the dog a hot car. absolutely absolutely. do not leave your dog a hot car even for a minute. it gets really hot really fast, faste- than you think. now, in terms of what oakland animal services seized during the summer months, in terms of animal intake. >> do you see a lot more people having to turn over their pets or are you seeing more of a demand for your services at during the summer months? i think what we see a lot in the summer is an increase in kittens coming into the shelter because this is way and kittens are and so people are very well meaning and take them which isn't always the right choice, right so we would like kittens to stay with their moms as long as possible. and we do have a

day. >> well, good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. we have some relatively moderation going on today. let's say cooling. but compared to where we've been and where we're going, i guess it is a little colder helping us out a bit as that morning fog and its lingering a little bit later on in the morning hours. for example, the east bay shoreline, you can see still embedded in this fog. that's a good thing. it's a nice little climate control helps us out this time of year. don't forget the days are still very long. a lot of daytime heating to go. so no pushing, no shoving will have plenty of sun today later, one of the snag areas, however, is along the coast. as you can see, like half moon bay, we're going to see some scattered clouds kind of linger all day today. you have that coupled with a good, strong onshore wind. it's going to be a bit chilly compared to everywhere may need the sweater today. heat while we're talking about excessive heat. yeah. heat advisories in place for monday. tuesday, wednesday, north bay. also a little bit in the south bay. looks like the coverage area is uncovering the santa cruz mountains. meanwhile, in red that you can see there, that's pretty much the east bay over the east bay hills and expect those numbers to be triple digits. this is again monday,

tuesday and wednesday, thursdays when we're supposed to break. but again, we'll see how that all comes together. still working on timing. the winds have been active all night and they are this morning. this is a live shot of of how we look see that strong onshore wind in place. again, a nice little climate control. keep those temperatures down. do you have the head of the high overhead like that? we can breathe a little bit 50's for a lot of the bay even at this late hour. but we're cracking in the lower 60's. 72 for antioch. and these readings are well below this time from yesterday, even in some cases more than half-a-dozen degrees. so for today, basically sunny inland, 77 going on by one at 4. we'll try about 84, but there are a couple of readings we're going to see up on the north bay where they'll be some 90's still hanging on here. and there again, he turns on tomorrow and into early next week. we'll have more on that forecast to stephanie. all right. thank you. >> fremont police responded to a deadly shooting around one 30 saturday afternoon. it happened in the area of la's day away and nichols avenue

officers found a wounded man there. that victim later died at the scene. a proper viewer who lives in the area says they heard at least a dozen shots fired. as you can see in the video, several cars were towed. we will continue to update you as we find out more from police. suspect is in custody for a highway shooting in oakland. it happened on highway. 24. and let's take a look at the weapons recovered by police during the arrest. chp says the shooting happened on the eastbound lanes near the acalanes road off-ramp. june 16. investigators say gunshots rang out after 2 cars crashed in a road rage incident after a month of investigation. police arrested a suspect on attempted murder charges. 70 pounds of meth confiscated during a traffic stop in napa county. the chp says canine champ helped find the drugs valued at around $250,000. police still investigating. and officers busted 3 illegal indoor marijuana growing operations

in fairfield. investigators issuing more than 1.3 million dollars in fines. fairfield police say they also found hazardous materials at those sites. francisco police are looking for the suspects involved robbing a cleaning crew at a popular lgbtq nightclub. it happened thursday at away, says in the city. so neighborhood, the club says a cleaning crew had wallets, phones and other belongings stolen by the time police arrived. the robbers had already taken off away, says says they also trashed the building. the owner says he's grateful for the community's support. >> you know, its people have been incredible and i'm reminded over and over how well i may be the owner of the space. it really is the community's space because every time we have needed something people would really stood up and, you know, we've we've put it started a gofundme to to help take care of the employees that were robs and also too, you know, fix fix everything that broken up. upgrade our security system and people have shown

up so quickly and we've we've surpassed our original goal, which is really going to help us in the long run to make a safer spot. >> a 14 year-old faces potential hate crime charges after he allegedly damaged a pride flag from an lgbtq+ building in half moon bay, san mateo county sheriff' deputies say the teen forcibly remove the flag friday night from the front of coast pride center. building witnesses identified him. the suspect given a citation and released to his parents. the case is under review by the da's office. and we're tracking a wildfire out of calusa and lake counties winds fueling the ridge fire. evacuation orders now in place for wilbur hot springs. the fire is now at 2500 acres. cal fire reports it is about 10% contained. another developing story we're following more than 200 pg customers in the east bay left in the dark saturday evening in response

to the hot, windy weather conditions. an elevated fire risk pg any issue. power shut offs around 4 on saturday. those outages now affecting small parts of alameda contra costa and san joaquin counties. on the heels of that global. it oatage that grounded flights friday. transportation secretary pete buttigieg posted an important reminder saturday saying, quote, i'm hearing reports of some airlines only offering flight credits to passengers for canceled flights. let me be clear. you are entitled to get your money back properly. if your flight is canceled and you don't take a rebooking, went on to say, let us know if they failed to provide one. and let's take a live look now at sfo. a lot calmer today after friday's tech outage. as of 905, this morning, 97 flights faced delays and 63 canceled. cybersecurity company. crowdstrike plan for those issues that affected not only airports but also health care systems, banks and government agencies. the texas

based company says a defective software upgrade led to the problem. francisco firefighters are warning boaters of strong winds and gusts up to 40 miles per hour. those conditions could cause boost to capsize. this warning remains in effect from point raise to pigeon point until monday morning. funds taken off the streets of oakland will soon be broken down into gardening tools. people turning handguns and rifles to police on saturday in exchange for cash. no questions asked there. the event was hosted by the violence prevention program, guns to gardens organizers melt those weapons down, turn them into tools like shovels. >> trying to bring something to the potentially destructive, not guns are i'm something that's potentially destructive in exchange for something that create 3 or green. >> people who turn in guns got up to $300. on saturday.

the carquinez strait. no surprise see that again tomorrow. then we get through tomorrow, by the way, is the high starts to get a little closer in the winds are not quite as active as long so their forces see some better clearing going on a little quicker. still have those breezy conditions that are insulating parts of the bay from all of these statements such as san francisco, a good chunk of the northern peninsula and off through the quirkiness straight and solano county. a good chunk of that is not in that by deliberate design. also the east bay shoreline because of the insulation of this cool breeze. it's working and here at least helping a little bit futurecast for look at the snag. there's that cloud cover remains off to the coast. flare up of those afternoon. showers. marine layer comes back again tonight. and then rips away. real quick tomorrow, except for the flare up. the continues off there in the mountains, even with the high that's in place. so still that fog at sfo, cloudy coast, too. we'll see some sun coming out in the afternoon. but prepare for different climate

there. sunny inland, hot inland to with a few 90's spots here and there. but mostly upper 80's at this heat advisory in the warning kicks in here for monday tuesday, wednesday, 100 plus and some of those spots. the hot spots later portion of the week. cooling quickly returning to the 80's. well inland on friday, it looks pretty sweet on a saturday as well. 69 san francisco, early fog and mild. 74 oakland, 82 san jose. there's your 91 off to antioch, 96 for santa rosa. but most readings in the upper 80's mid 70's light up the east bay shoreline and we crank up the heat to start things off their the way. this is the now temperature we have for you here. 104 monday, 102 on tuesday. going to be hot to start the week there. but again, we'll finish off a nice note, too. we have from that pressure system in a show who's boss that sounds very nice thanks a lot. >> 2 beaches in placer county remain closed to the public after 85,000 gallons of untreated sewage spilled into lake tahoe.

>> utility officials,say a private contractor hit a main sewer pipeline around 8 thursday night causing that sewage to spill. you know, the garwood screw it here. crews managed to clean $40,000 worth but a significant amount. 85,000 gallons of that sewage still reach the lake. >> i'm just devastated. i've been coming here for 50 years since 1970, you know, keep tahoe everyone has a bumper sticker. so ironic that this has occurred and this magnitude. >> nearly of a west in patton landing beach remain closed to the public until further notice. county environmental workers say the sewage contains high levels of bacteria, which could make people sick. and this comes as 2 lake tahoe beaches were tested for harmful algae blooms. a dog reportedly died after swimming in the water over the 4th of july weekend. testing showed the beaches did not show signs of toxins

same way because of those winds. 76 going on for antioch readings are now in the upper 50's to lower 60's as a kind of fight for coverage here we are a little cooler this morning. we were this time from yesterday. so everything's working in tandem for more pleasant day. just have to work on the sky conditions which call for mostly sunny to sunny. we had 76 going on by 1 o'clock by 4 at about 83. we may see a couple of spots will be 90 here and there and i'll show you that in the 4 zone forecast and more importantly in the extended, i'll talk more about that heat spike coming our way, stephanie. all right, dave, thank you. on saturday, the national park service mark the 80th anniversary. >> of the port of chicago explosion. the moment honoring the lives of 320 people killed that day during world war. 2, were black sailors on ictims o- saturday, we spoke with one of the children of the sailors who died, who never got to meet her father. >> remembering how a 4 year old had questions about the

death of her father. and there are no answers. i'm remembering how in 1990, to 95. i researched looking for answers regarding the explosion. and then that's when i learned about the men with the work stoppage that been charged with mutiny. and so today is a momentous because it gives me an opportunity and everybody around gets to know the story to optimize the entire story. not just part of beginning with loss of lives for the man in the explosion and then the exoneration of men who refuse work under the same conditions after picking up body and so these men have a special place in my heart. >> 50 survivors were found guilty of mutiny for refusing to go back to work in unsafe conditions as that woman just mentioned, there. they were later found to be unjustly punished. kron four's noelle

bellow explains. >> there's no question why this former naval base is called port chicago winds on the shoreline. tell that story. well. the story of the hundreds of servicemen lost their lives at this site 18 years ago isn't as well known. >> this story has been kind of swept under the rug during world war. 2 navy sailors were sent to port chicago on the southern banks of sassoon bay. >> the base was racially segregated commanding officers were all white and the sailors were all black. those sailors were tasked with loading ammunition onto liberty ships, transporting cargo in arms to the war zones. 2000 pound blockbusters, all warheads for tom peters. 6 projectors and anything in between. it was a task. no one on the base was properly trained for. >> and i tore my my officer several times that that one day this stuff is going to explode. that was if it does. >> you or i will know anything

>> and on july, 17th 1944, that's exactly what happened. at 10:18pm, to deafening explosions ripped through the base, blowing 2 ships out of the water and instantly killing 320 met 202 of them were black sailors. >> rules a few seconds. green, the light. second. >> in 1990, kron 4 produced a documentary called port chicago mutiny, a national tragedy. 3 survivors shared their stories. u.s. navy men, joseph small, percy robinson and robert route junior. robert, the explosion was the last thing he ever saw. >> i was laying in my bed with my head resting on looking in direction and explosion came

from this work so hard, you know, obviously raised up and look towards exposure. flying glass concussion. i left i was. so badly lacerated that it was removed that night. people screaming. >> the second floor coming down. he so much far. some kind of >> for survivors like percy robinson, the horrors of the next hours and days were tough to recall as they were now fully aware of the dangers of

the job. not long after the tragedy, the navy ordered the sailors to resume their work without addressing the hazardous conditions. joseph small was one of 50 black sailors eventually known as the port chicago, 50, who refused to go back. >> and he asked the question is small. are you going back to work? and i said no, sir. and where is it him somebody over in the ranks said a small don't go. we're not accused of conspiring together. the navy responded by charging the group with mutiny. >> during the trial it was revealed their white officers had imposed a competition at the port betting on whose group of black sea men could blow the munitions. fastest despite the disturbing details of conditions on the base being revealed, all 50 service men were found guilty. >> we had not even thought of the word knew it had not covered up. >> though they were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. the men were all released quietly about a year later. they were,

however, order to finish their terms with the navy scrutiny from the disaster and trial did eventually lay the groundwork for reform. the navy put safety practices in place. and despite originally being the most rigidly segregated military branch, the u.s. navy became the first to desegregate 2 years later in 1946. today, wooden posts from the original loading dock. still stand above the bay waters marking the port chicago naval magazine national memorial. the solemn site holds with it a sense of immense loss but also serves as a place of reflection and a reminder to never forget the men port chicago say perry. >> inspirational stories to folks in that they want to know they want to help get >> our noelle bellow reporting that story for us. and now let's take a live look outside

at sfo. a lot calmer today after friday's tech outage. as of 09:20am, this morning, 97 flights faced delays. 63 cancellations. the cybersecurity company crowdstrike is blamed for the issues that affected not just airports but also health care systems, banks and government agencies. the texas based company says a defective software upgrade led to the problem. and a lawsuit against san francisco police alleges the department has been violating a facial recognition ban. the group behind the lawsuit claims the technology also fails to accurately identify people. kron four's gayle ong reports. >> we had 2 whistleblowers come to us with documents showing that the problem is more widespread than the police admitted to more officers are involved. there's been more more uses or or requests for other agencies to run as technology on their behalf. brian hofer is the executive director of secure justice, a nonprofit that advocates against government

overreach. >> the group filed a lawsuit on tuesday against the city and county of san francisco alleging the use of facial recognition technology, which is banned in 2019. they have 42. >> pieces of surveillance technology that do not have approved use policies for them. those were due for years ago. i have bent over backwards trying to negotiate with and trying to work with chief sky and they're just flat out refuse to comply with laws. so we need a court order. the lawsuit also accuses the city and county of san francisco. >> failed to submit annual reports and provide required information in annual reports. the suit alleges facial recognition technology is known for not accurately identifying individuals with darker tones and different genders. there are also concerns about hundreds of cases at risk for dismissal. if there are brady violations when a prosecutor fails to provide a defendant with evidence that could be favorable in their case. >> a lot of these technologies simply don't work. so that

raises the question, is this technology even affected at all? and maybe they can cut it can save money while san francisco is facing a huge budget deficit. >> gayle ong kron. 4 news. is released. details about their plans to finance a new stadium in las vegas. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> had a meeting before the las vegas stadium authority aes executives retracted the dome, if you will, and their plans for a new baseball stadium on the las vegas strip. is executive sandy. dean told board members the 1.5 billion dollar stadium will be financed in 3 parts. 350 million dollars in taxpayer funds, which is 30 million less than earmarked by the legislature. another 300 million dollars will be borrowed through debt financing. but so far, while dean says there's been interest, the a's have yet to secure a lender. dean says the remaining 850 million dollars will be the responsibility of a's owner john fisher. dean says the fisher family could

do all of the required equity for the project, but they would also like to have outside investors from the las vegas area. dean says they've held off on reaching out to potential investors until they had a more refined design of the stadium. well, this is more information than we've had in some time. baseball insiders say there are still very key questions that remain unanswered. who are those owners? >> that might come in and assist. fisher in that gap of 1.0. 2 billion dollars can you show us the world working architectural drawings so you can start building on at some point? no, you can't. have you gotten approval from major league baseball on who those additional owners might be to join fisher and in the a's ownership. no, you can't. because you either don't know their names or you don't have them. >> also during the meeting, dean share details on the stadium itself saying the

job how open animal services is working to empty the yes, we are working to empty the shelters by putting pets in people's homes for free. we have pets for just about any kind of life cell. we have what you if what you want as a couch potato, like tubs. definitely. but we have kittens and puppies like dogs and small dogs, guinea, pigs, pigeons throughout it. everything a little bit of everything. yeah, to tell us about jobs in his story, welch ups came to oz. his owner could no longer keep him. and so now it's our duty to find him a new home. he spent the night with me last night. he is a real good cuddle he is adorable. so sweet, so well behaved nobody look at that. i contacted my goodness. very smart and tell us a bit about his personality. he's a good with other with kids. yeah, he's pretty much been good

with everybody, though, that he's when i've had him with me. he doesn't go to our playgroups. we do have playgroups for the more rambunctious he doesn't really need a lot of play if you want more active, john, we definitely have options for that. but shoves really just wants to hang out with fund cuddle all right. and so for anyone who's interested in jobs any of your other animals, how can they get in touch? yes, so we're at 11. 0, 1, 20th avenue really close to the fruitvale bart station close to the freeway. our adoption hours today are 12 to 3. and of course, all adoption fees are waived through the end of the month. on thursday's our adoption hours are late the home with you. i did a option. packed in case >> all right. fantastic. and you know, if people want to help, but they aren't able to adopt at this moment, are there other ways people can help open animal services?

>> absolutely. so those extended hours on thursdays from 12 to 7 are also are open foster hours. so if you've ever thought of fostering a pat, >> your commitment can be a few longer. he would really like i like him but we also accept volunteers, even if that's not your jam, it isn't coming into the municipal animal services agency and hang out with dogs all day. we can take your gently used towels and things like that or any sort of donations at any time needs really likes wearing this i was looking for a costume and his size today we came down and we only had allison south. we got a nice out for it. you know, just get the most for stuff. so, you know, he's made is no new home. you know, tell us to about since we are in the summer months they was talking about the dog days of summer. it is so hot out any tips in

terms of >> pet adoption, like in safety? absolutely. absolutely. so trump's here is what we called crack yosef, alec. he's got like that short little knows real real snow, artie, very cute. little. >> breathing. but if your dog is like that or your cat or any your pets, you got to pay attention to their breathing. little pause on hot asphalt can be a problem to walk through more shaded areas and make sure that there's always water available carry something with you. if if you don't normally around here, this is the time to to bring a water bottle with you for your pet some very good never leave the dog a hot car. absolutely absolutely. do not leave your dog a hot car even for a minute. it gets really hot. really fast, than you think. now, in terms of what oakland animal services seized during the summer months, in terms of animal intake. >> do you see a lot more people having to turn over their pets or are you seeing more of a demand for your services at during the summer

months? i think what we see a lot in the summer is an increase in kittens coming into the shelter because this is way kittens are and so people are very well meaning and take them which isn't always the right choice, right so we would like kittens to stay with their moms as long as possible. and we do have a community cats program in order to help get those moms and the communities church so that they're not having so many but oftentimes people think they're saving kittens when really they're taking away them away from their best food which that's really interesting. so important to station there when it comes to cats kittens. so again, lots of varieties and options for people to check out if and they're looking to open their homes up to a a wonderful pet like just the best place to go for information. if they'd like to adopt. today. oakland, animal services dot all of our
