11:38 pm
here we go out there right now, you can see some of that patchy fog right there near the golden gate bridge that is going to rise up as we head toward the coming days. that's going to well onshore. temperatures cooled off a little bit today, even though still hot inland it 3 to 6 degrees cooler around much of the bay area in the interior valleys. little cooler elsewhere, but still 103 degrees today in lemore 102, in antioch, 100 degrees in santa rosa. then you look at along the coastline. 66 degrees, very pleasant in half moon bay and 74 comfortable in san francisco. but things are all about to change now, beginning to see some of that cool air work its way inside the bay. mild temperatures outside right now. in fact, still warm in the interior valleys. it is 80 degrees right now in concord, 19 and brent. what 65 degrees, though, now in san francisco in 62 in pacifica, high pressure been sitting overhead now for a few days. and so their quality has begun to suffer. but who still bit hazy out there today. if you're looking across the bay kind of hard to see across the bay just because of all the haze outside. right now, some the center's me on the yellow out there right now. but tomorrow
11:39 pm
it should be vastly improved. we're going to see more significant sea breeze. high pressure is going to weaken all of a sudden. you see that the air kind of sweet, a sweeping on shore and that will help to cool us down and clear out your skies to go along with it. so this hour, we're going to plan tomorrow into san francisco. really some pretty comfortable will be mostly sunny after patchy fog, although you may see some fog lingering out along the coastline at the sons of a plan about 64 degrees still in the 70's low 80's into oakland and still hot in the san jose may be touching about 90 degrees, but the trend is finally for some cooler weather have been able to say that for a while the next few days. here you go. you still see some 90's tomorrow, but we should be out of the triple digits. then we cool down more so into friday and saturday. yeah, this weekend, 20 to 25 degrees cooler as we head into the weekend. only warm up slightly in the middle of next week. >>wow. what a change. i know some people especially inland. we're going to be liking those temperatures. thanks, lawrence. you're israeli prime

just a pinch of pumpkin... a dash of bat... a sprinkle of joy from my witch's hat. potions keep stirring... mix halloween flare. now, add some friendly spirits... that haunt the air. put magic and treats at every corner to be seen... come alive my cauldron... brew the happiest halloween. prime minister benjamin netanyahu was on capitol hill wednesday trying to bolster u.s. support for the fight against hamas, sparking thousands of protesters across the country the way in kron four's grant lotus and vicki liviakis spoke with stanford university lecturer in the department of communication. she needs to carry a >>so obviously very controversial. you sought. what's your takeaway?
11:47 pm
>>well, i i support another promise not out for a very long time for the washington post, bloomberg and others. he's a very skilled order. this was his 4th address to congress. he is now spoken before a joint session of congress more than any foreign leader ever. winston churchill spoke there 3 times. i believe so. it was, you know, so he was playing to his strengths. i would say that the speech was the first sustained defense of israel's actions in gaza since the october 7th massacre is in israel. and it defense of the way the israeli military in particular has prosecuted this war. you had several idf soldiers who were there who are very ethnically diverse to push back on the idea of israel somehow as a white settler illegitimate colonial stay the kind of rhetoric you've seen on campuses, including my own stanford over the past year. it's something that played very with the republican side
11:48 pm
of the congress. there were i think dozens of democrats who weren't there. you show dancy pelosi statement and it was really also a defense of the importance of the u.s. israel relationship. he more clearly than i've heard him do in the past sort of identify why u.s. support for israel is important beyond the conflict in gaza, namely to counter iran. i'm now back in israel itself, though. it did not play well there. what there's daily weekly spent even daily protests led by families of hostages who are still being held in gaza. now since october, 7th, who were very disappointed that he didn't outline a clear plan for ending the war and bringing their loved ones home. >>well, that brings me to i guess what i was going to ask, which is where do you see this headed, where now? you know what, 10 months and almost to this war? ah, netanyahu said today that aside from one
11:49 pm
incident, there are almost 0 civilian casualties in rafah, something that doesn't pass the eye test how do you see his support continuing it? does it hinge on the u.s. presidential election and what? comes in the next, you know, 3, 4, months to think. >>there's a lot of different things at play i think he was more careful than he's been in the past to strike. a bipartisan is bipartisan note, although they're i would from what i can tell and i was watching on tv like you. but it was it seems like the the loudest applause, perhaps because there are obviously there are more republicans present in the chamber was when he thanked president trump for what are known as the abraham accords, which helped to israel forge a diplomatic ties with for our countries. and he did thank president biden for his long friendship and support. i don't know how much focus the
11:50 pm
administration the u.s. administration is going to be able to have for the conflict right now. that will give prime minister netanyahu some time under less pressure, perhaps to continue the military operations in gaza. but the pressure on him domestically to wrap it up to get the hostages home to strike some sort of a deal is enormous. there are 2 things that are in conflict here. he says that victory is to get hamas, delete it, defeat hamas militarily, remove them from power and bring the hostages home. but the only way to bring hostages home, maybe with with the cease-fire with hamas, which means implicitly not defeating them. so that's really the core conundrum there. and he really did not shed any light on what's going to happen over the next few months. i think that you're going to see lower level kind of incursions daily kind of strikes in gaza. while israel prepares for a potential conflict with hezbollah, the shiite militia group in the
11:51 pm
north things are really he did not with lebanon right now. >>makes you wonder how he's weighing his own political future with the best interests of his country and, you know, other countries, we have to still have hostages. got to wonder who he was speaking in congress. incredibly complicated. >>all right. well, fascinating. thank you. stanford university with the department of communication, janine, sick area. when we're young, we're told anything is possible... ...but only a few of us go out and prove it. witness the greatness of anna hall on a connection worthy of gold: xfinity mobile. only xfinity gives you the most powerful mobile wifi network, with speeds up to a gig in millions of locations. and right now, xfinity internet customers

>>and who's going chase him down? and camera's really having much effect, right? surveillance. >>the cameras being installed are all part of assembly bill 6.45. that calls for a set number of cameras to be installed. not only in oakland but in san jose and san francisco, along with 3 other cities down south ticketing drivers going from 11 to 15 miles over the speed limit starting and 50 bucks and reduced fees and community service will be offered to low-income offenders. and as of now, all tickets issued in the first 60 days of these cameras being up and running will only serve as a warning. but after that, you've got to pay up as we get more details as to when these first cameras are, putin will continue to keep you updated. that is the very latest reporting in oakland, michael thomas kron. 4 news. >>a massive blow to people who like to shop at discount retailer big lots, 10 stores in the bay area are slated to now shut down. kron four's will tran reports. >>the right behind me that actually went up at this

location last saturday. it's open for business and it appears it will continue to be open, at least for the next several months. i talked to some employees and they didn't want to go on camera, but they said probably until october they will be serving customers after that. they will be shutting down this location and 9 others in the bay area. now, let me show you video of insight. a lot of people, they are regular customers and then there are people who heard about the news and then came to this location this morning looking for deals. and that's the problem. it's historic closing down or significant deals for them to come to this location. big said increase competition, inflation, lagging sales, all playing into their decision to close down, not just 10 bay area locations, but many locations throughout the country. california has 109 big lots altogether. we're only second

locations. but let's face it. they're getting fewer, especially over the next several months that it's not worth for them to drive to distant locations. one employee told me he's very grateful for the job, but after it closes, he will be leaving for another place to work as far as big lots is might not be over because they are trying to be leader and what they are. they're not shutting down altogether. just many places throughout california, including right here off a monument boulevard. >>kr

presidential ticket. this comes as vice president harris stacks up campaign contributions and endorsements. wednesday party leaders met to come up with a plan to how and when choose the party's nominee. washington, d.c., correspondent harry brandt reports. >>vice president kamala harris is racking up support from democrats. we're not playing around, but she isn't officially the party's nominee as a party. we have obligation to design and implement their nomination process for delegates to officially express their preferences through a vote. on wednesday, the democratic national committee held a meeting to determine the rules for nominating their candidate. most of the delegates say they plan to vote for vp harris but dnc chair jaime harrison says it's still an open process. delegates are free to support who they choose and we're glad that they're engaging this important moment in history. the parameters for candidates to clear their running and approved the threshold of support. they have to to be considered so far. here is the only one vying for votes. and

of essentially defeat but not exact explaining we did a great talk about why he wanted common areas to be the nominee. but he really was there to talk about his record and why, as he said earlier, he thought marriage and the second term and to talk about the dangers to this police department, donald trump poses to our democracy. so it very somber reflective, combative dfiant. challenge. but in the end, one where basically expresses hope that the american people will make the right decision in november. >>you also get the sense that this was a way for him to sort of cement his legacy you know, making a list of some of the accomplishments here. >>absolutely dear friend. and again, this is like a traditional at these last rory's ability. talk about
12:07 am
what he did, what he what he was given, what he thinks he's down. why in the end, she thought the merit in the second term. but it but he can't do it. you just can't. you can't reasons that you will not say publicly. he's proud man. you just i basically karen could win. and so we know is needed to do it and carry protect democracy. that's that's an amazing admission. but it's also. also defines to those who you might say anything about what people people were trying to push an to get out of the race. referred cognitive issues, the performance in the debate. it it was more that he couldn't win. and if you could, when you send it back. so good because of values and the principles like you don't. we're at stake. but you saw, as you said, a lot of talk about what accomplished. a lot a lot digs at his predecessor and a lot of digs at the person who he thought he was
12:08 am
going to be running against in november. instead, vice president court opportunity to face off against the former president on november 2. >>interesting that i think we saw man who is both humbled and proud in the same moment and certainly reflective defended his but i think the word that was used most maybe was democracy. he said that maybe a half a dozen times, maybe more and it's interesting when you compare what you hear from trump these days who basically tells his people that if you don't vote for me, you're not going to have a country. to biden who is effectively saying if you do vote for kamala, you're going to lose democracy. they're both kind of saying the same thing. >>they are they are. and what's really interesting, i was thinking about the back to starting the supreme court grammar form. these kinds of tings between and november,
12:09 am
could become vice president may have a little bit of a luxury here in president biden is going to continue to serve, push an agenda. he's a gent which gives her the ability to serve work on her agenda separately and but the president is one that draws a sharp contrasts in reading and reminds people about what is what what the consequences him. what a donald trump presidency could do again to this country. and by talking about supreme court reform essentially talking about about dobbs decision, about about the portion decision. and i think decisions that that gives you the president's intially absolute immunity, which is what supreme court just didn't and is contrary really how this nation's always thought about our president being a part government, not the only the government. so these are things that he can bring up and he can fight for. and it frees a vice president to talk about other issues and be with other other priorities that she's going need to do. i'm
12:10 am
quite frankly, to ensure, but pull pull together the coalition that elected by got elected obama and unlike the clinton she's going need in order to prevail against very well-funded. and he was exuberant trump base that's out there right now. >>we haven't seen much of the president since the debate some other appearances. if look at him now, you know, so many questions have been swirling around about his health, his cognitive abilities. how did you gauge his presentation tonight? >>you know, interesting is that everything is magnified, right? any particular stumble? do find words being unable to canceling the teleprompter? i mean, but part of that is also joe biden has been all his life. i think that that that thing that you think about right now is that he he just
12:11 am
he just looks older than he did 4 years ago. the president, has enormous aging effect on people. if you take it seriously we're if you really see much aging in in donald trump. but you you look at pictured here and lincoln, franklin roosevelt, you know, all of them date the pressure. does something to you in advance here. your energy and as or essentially your entire soul into this country. and i think that you see you see with joe biden and again, like i said, fact that you're as you know, they're just fine line to get his last that you she was doing today wasn't as loud as it used to be. wasn't strong it used to be. but you could tell the ferocity behind his eyes his heart was still there. but you also saw someone who it was not the joe biden there 4 years ago and certainly not the joe biden we find present during obama and
12:12 am
that magnified in that terrible debate made to decision this week, 2 to decide. i'm going to in unprecedented move and indoors. common errors. present to be the nominee and cent. so it's very bittersweet for someone like me who's been in my original over the years but also energizing and that, you maybe some new blood may be younger, someone who someone who i've had the privilege of knowing you know, for 20 years of my life of the vice president is going to have an opportunity to take the take, the ultimate prize being president of the united states. but where do job? think tonight just show it again. you know who he is, what what we do these accomplish when he's going tend to do but right course not in a second turn. yeah, yet, just think it's important to point out. he made it very clear.
12:13 am
>>that he's not resigning the position. he has an agenda he wants to finish and he hasn't tell, you january to do that. think that's an important point to make sure that you just point himself off the campaign trail. sure, but not right. office. >>the other sorry, go i just want hear your perspective on on the issue. you know, the u.s. was on the world stage for another reason today when prime minister netanyahu addressed congress and that issue, i would think would play a role in the election. it has to some degree further divided. the democratic party. you heard what nancy pelosi said. she didn't attend it. kamala harris is married to a juice. she's considering the governor of pennsylvania, josh shapiro, who is also jewish to be her vp. how do you think that changes now that the top of the ticket has changed?
12:14 am
>>well, i think you already seen people talk about will. how much come out and sorry for my and come out and take us somewhere. different tack in terms how strong she in terms of criticized netanyahu in trying to get a cease-fire in the middle i think it gives a little bit a reset for the vice president gives her her campaign a chance reach out to those communities and talk to talk to them you know, one of the things that we saw in mike believes british election, but that the recall because the guys are evil. they were actually. despite labor government winning huge majority, there are a number of them who went down because voters stayed home. we don't vote for them because the issue israel and gaza. so it's something that they need to take seriously for their constituency searching for that electoral votes in michigan and in wisconsin. so it's something that that they're going to have to go into going to have to address. you know, the fact that you
12:15 am
have you have trump saying their co-workers and urge is just insane. but you're going to hear that and you're going to hear that kind of rhetoric over and over again. and i think what's going to be really fascinating all that is really decide. to debate because the debates are between him and president biden and part of them are cleaning the rules of change. and therefore, they have to reset the whole debate framework and whether that will happen or not. i think that he would not want to debate. is the thing? the contest would be pretty hard, but it will just see. but yes, you were just talking with these kind of issues is real, especially the things kind of written parts of the democratic party. again. the ability of joe biden to do what you need to do. and come where is to do what she wants to do. there's a little bit distance there that she can create to more room to maneuver, to get the votes that he needs to november.
12:16 am
>>well, thank you so much for your michael yaki, our political analyst and also so when he's been on the inside, so you have some sense of the heart of this as well. so we really appreciate. >>but you have grant, thank you, michael.

12:19 am
correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at those reaction from some who say it's a little too late. >>well, the insurance commissioner believes these reforms will make a difference. still, some believe we should have never gotten to this point in the first place. we're going to get fixed. california insurance commissioner ricardo, lara, making that promise as the state grapples with a homeowners insurance crisis. >>in the last year and a half 7 of the 12 major home insurance companies in california, including allstate, state farm and farmers insurance limited their business within the state or in some cases stop selling new policies altogether for homeowners living in some of california's most fire prone areas. that resulted in some california struggling to find any insurance coverage and all a key requirement to carry a mortgage from home. some people can't find insurance any price. others are moving coverage when they've never had a and that's completely unacceptable for their part.
12:20 am
insurance companies have said they have no other choice but to pause or stop selling policies out of concerns. they could face huge losses. should a major disaster like a wildfire destroyed homes and at-risk communities. right now it's not enough just to shop for insurance. >>do you really have to for insurance? but during this call with the center of california real estate, lot of said he and the newsom administration will soon implement reforms he believes will ensure insurance companies stay in california. one of his reforms would streamline california's insurance rate review process. that's the process that allows the state to approve or deny an insurance request to raise premiums. the second reform will allow insurance companies to consider what's known as catastrophe modeling, which in a nutshell will allow them to factor in climate change and environmental risks. when setting prices, some have argued the reforms could lead to increased premiums. but a lot of says they'll help stabilize the insurance market they take effect in december. once we have these reforms in place, companies are going
12:21 am

1:01 am
his critics do you think that he he gave the rationale that would satisfy them? >>yes, i mean, i think he said that it's time to pass the torch. and that's exactly what's going on here. he said it's time for younger leadership. that was, in fact, the best rationale for stepping aside. if he knows that kamala harris or wherever the nominee is, it looks like it's going to be heard is going to have a better shot beating donald trump and he is. so i think it's rational was right. i don't really blame him for sticking around for, you know, a few weeks after the debate and kind know fighting it out. he was the only guy who ran for the nomination. only major candidate. you've got all the votes are almost all the votes in the primary. he was legitimate nominee of the party. and so, you know, for him to stick it out and see if he could perform better, wasn't really illegitimate. but he stepped out in plenty of time before the convention for the democrats to go into the convention with a nominee

apparent and to begin building their campaign around. kamala harris, i think he very much did the right thing. >>he did, though, basically make it impossible for any other democrat to throw his or her hat in the ring. he endorsed vice president harris about 20 minutes after his announcement over the weekend. do you think the critics out there who say she was just anointed are correct to have a great there? >>well, you know, yes, i do see that case. i do think there's a case for having a mini primary, your opening it up at the convention or doing something else that would give other candidates a shot at the same time. look, you we've got less than 4 months until this election and to you know what contest know or who the nominee would be. i think biden calculated would be, you know, would be chaotic and will be very hard for the party. i think it could be done. here's the thing. if kamala harris words and obviously appealing competent candidate, then there be a

of israel. in fact, israeli been, i think, very bumbling, incompetent prime minister of israel. biden does seem to be intent on making progress on that. he's beloved abroad by our nato allies solidifying ties with them and actually in the process of kind readying them for a president. paris, if she comes along, he's really been a giant on the international stage, uniting most of the democratic world behind ukraine behind united states in this effort to stop putin's aggression. biden has a lot going for him. and i think in the next few months he's going to able to really tie up loose ends and leave his successor with a with reasonably solid situation provided. of course, his successor is kamala harris and not donald trump because trump's intention is to undo all of this is on food in sight. he has not. and he is. he's on authoritarianism side. he wants to bury democracy in the united states. all the more reason why so urgent that

the party unite behind kamala harris and the she win in november. we know you're voting for a. >>is situation where you think the vice president she'll pick matters in an election to to that end. who do you think vice president harris should pick as harvey pitt? >>well, first of all, the important thing is the vice president harris really come out swinging and that she not spent her time fact checking president trump recoiling in indignation every time he says something offensive playing defense is the democrats so often have done with with president trump and then former president trump. it's important that she really be aggressive. it's important to keep that she tell us who she is without poll testing every word. this is what hillary clinton did. this is what the democrats have done in recent years. it has not worked. it's important also that she realized she has to rapper issues whether it be

embargo has officially lifted. critics have mixed feelings across the board. this one from the la times. they say deadpool is and always has been a phone it edge lord and try hard while it will use its target audience of geeks and utterly online deadpool and wolverine is a whole lot of hot air and not much else. little harsh there. then this from the hollywood reporter, even if they spend much of the running time sticking blades through each other's handily. regenerating flash reynolds and jackman make sweet love. and if having a great time doing it, they bring a semblance of heart. both characters have their share of regrets, but both are offered redemption here. both get to matter. i like that. the good review. all right. many of you say that the real villain of the film is a corporate executive played by succession star matthew macfadyen. he talked with stephen colbert last night about that movie. watch. it's a i think. yeah, and i'm you know, i love the mobile phones, but the real finds like a hawk. they will go. >>but non-us, the cast is booked and busy. hugh jackman

of. you've been looking for a cool down. finally, it looks like it is going to begin in earnest tomorrow and much cooler into friday and the weekend to. so here we go out the door tonight. we do have a couple patches of fog forming along the coastline. not much, though, so far, but that's going ramp up overnight tonight. so by tomorrow morning, you see a lot of clouds along the coast inside the bay. maybe couple the valleys to out there right now. just beginning to make its way onshore. more on the way as it moves in the up going to thicken up tomorrow morning. and that's going to slow down the burn off rate. that means less sunshine. some cooler temperatures not going to be cold by any means tomorrow, but it will be cooler than it has been a much cooler temperatures. maybe 20. maybe 25 degrees cooler as we head in toward the weekend. so a big change in the works. you can see most of that fog, though, kind of hang off the coastline, get ready to back on shore. but check out the sierra nevada boy. it was just lighting up again today with the monsoonal moisture just rolling across the sierra nevada coming through the afternoon. you see those pop up thunderstorms but look at a lightning strike. dozens

dozens of lightning strikes across the high country and likely see some of that tomorrow, but not as extensive overall, though, low clouds going to back on shore for tonight and into the bay. you'll see right there rolling on in some of the interior valleys into the delta 2 that is going to slowly break up. i think stick around the coastline tomorrow. mostly cloudy out toward the beaches tomorrow. that will be a sign of the change beginning. here you go. that big dome of high pressure that's been with us almost all july, kind of off and finally breaking up here, here comes this area of low pressure. watch what happens. this going to track just to the northeast and there you go. that is going to bring some much cooler weather in the bay area as we head into friday. the weekend looks a much cooler all around for everyone may be a little bit below the average as we head in towards sunday. then things begin to change again. but overall, i think the weather pattern going to be a lot more favorable. certainly a lot more comfortable outside 60's. much of san francisco tomorrow, 15 60's along the coastline with that patchy fog. 71 in millbrae. 72 in burlingame, 81 in redwood city as you head to the south bay, those temperatures of the 80's, maybe 90 in the san jose

said of triple digits tomorrow. maybe about 93 in pleasanton. 94 in livermore. still hot place like brett would need to get discovery bay. you're still talking some triple digits, but cooler temperatures for much of the bay area looks like that will be the trend over the next couple of days. here we go. your 10 to 10 cooling down those temperatures quite a bit, especially on friday. you'll notice the change. think it's going to feel really good, especially some of those interior valleys. they've been really toasting and temperatures in the triple digits much of july. you're going to cool off even below the average in the sunday, then slowly warming up. but right now see a major heat wave. on 4 sports. >>the giants are scratching and clawing trying to find so momentum to make a run. time is of the essence and what a better time to start against. he los angeles dodgers in robbie ray making his season debut for the giants. he hasn't pitched since last march. great sept undergoing tommy john surgery had to pitch in the majors. i should say he started off a bit shaky
