chilly at the coast. so we're going get it is summertime. there it is as we speak right now, onshore winds in place, more moisture in the atmosphere. that's all good news to battle fires. upper 50's lower 60's in the contrast for you is a little weird. it's a little cooler inland than it was this time from yesterday. little warmer. meanwhile, for parts of the north bay and you can see for half moon bay breakdown for today has the considerable cloud cover even inland breaking up by the late morning. and we're into this mostly sunny mode. look at that. 73 by 2 o'clock. have your weekend forecast. we come back. theresa, thank you very much, dave. >> strong winds feeling to wildfires in the east bay, prompting evacuations as flames coming dangerously close to some homes. evacuation orders are in effect for the sun. all wilderness regional preserve and homes along the welsh creek road because of the creek fire. the creek fire started just before 4 friday afternoon and it has quickly grown to nearly 600 acres. it's only 5% contained.

meanwhile, the point fire burned nearly 500 acres in contra costa county kron four's jack moment starts our fire coverage from bay point. >> so the big story this wildfire season in california so far has been these high winds and extremely dry grassy conditions that have just made it really difficult for crews to battle these fires that we have seen so far. but on friday, in bay point, we did find several neighbors who were just thankful that crews responded quick enough keeping flames, sometimes 10 to 20 feet away from their homes. >> a fire going you can see it from the main road of 450 plus acre fire ripping through the foothills between concord. >> and bay point, the first thing i thought was going to get my son because it looked like it was really close by where my son school is located. >> amid several evacuation warnings and even one evacuation order, neighbors here had no choice but to watch as cal fire, local fire crews did their best tackling the flames from the ground and

the arab spring retardants over homes, cars and streets. >> but point i was in my backyard for arianna torres, this fire came way too close for comfort in. this is where i live. >> so that will take off. >> if the firefighters did it. they want to find. >> less than 20 feet is what stood between the fire and her home. it was very very scary, because i relieving in this home imagines is. >> my house getting burned down. but with neighbors and some garden hoses, they were able to keep the flames away until cal fire got there. but wanting the the house down with the water cal fire crews from contra costa county and santa clara counties. >> tackle this fire and were able to stop it from progressing around 8 in the evening. it was a scary situation. i'm still kind of flustered. dan hartwig kids grew up in the home that he worked a safe yet shows us video of just how close it got. >> firefighters called costa

county. thank you. thank you. thank really, really, really saved us this. i will be thinking about this for a while. it wasn't for, you know, the fire department all that. i don't think, you we would have got through it. >> at cal fire crews are set to continue working on this fire throughout the evening on friday, going into the weekend because of those high winds and those dry grassy conditions that forward progression of the fire has stopped and that containment is still slow going up. reporting here in bay point jacmel. kron 4 news. >> i'm tracking more fires. a fire burning near 5.80, and north flynn road in alameda county is 80% contained. this fire started around 9.45 thursday night and burned nearly 400 acres to drive or call 9-1-1. to report that their car was on fire and that the flames had spread to a nearby hillside. the fire forced crews to temporarily shut down 5 ad and no one was injured and no buildings were damaged. meanwhile, the park

fire burning in butte county is currently california's largest fire of the year. the fire has grown to more than 239,000 acres after sparking on wednesday, the burn zone extending from butte county. all we needed to to county cal fire estimates. the flames destroyed at least 134 structures mostly homes. evacuation orders remain in place. a chico man was arrested thursday on an arson charge authorities say that the man pushed a burning car into a goalie which ignited the park fire. and it is by the oakland police department is investigating a deadly shooting that happened around 10, 30 thursday night on coliseum. way about a block north of the oakland coliseum. the identity of the victim has not been released yet. oakland police say it is an active investigation and they are still gathering details. and governor newsom is stepping into policing matters in oakland once again. now he is

asking city officials to be more aggressive and bring back police pursuits yesterday spoke to critics and supporters of changing the current policy. >> a policy under scrutiny on friday, california governor gavin newsom imploring going to get tougher on crime specifically sending a letter urging the city to reconsider its no police pursuit policy. in a letter the governor writes to mayor sheng thao and the council quote, i urge you to reconsider whether opd should be permitted to pursue suspects and more circumstances to improve public safety in your city and to establish a process to evaluate whether opd is making full use of its authority, including that granted under the existing pursuit policy to protect public safety and enforce a law, unquote. the governor recently stepped up efforts to send more highway patrol officers to oakland to help combat crime. adding

recent data reflecting it is working. violent crime is down. but adding oakland's anti pursue policy is hurting efforts to be more effective circumstances of definitely change since. well, since i was chief. >> and i think, you know, oakland police department, city of oakland should consider some changes to the policy or on armstrong as oakland's former top cop who was fired by mayor thao for allegedly failing to appropriately discipline officers. but >> a magistrate recommended the city reverse the termination. he is now running for an at-large position on oakland city council. while he was chief. he supported putting a pause on pursuits. however, now. >> as laws change, write, the laws have change, which has made certain less accountable than they were previously. and so that means that law enforcement has to adjust to when the initial policy went into place, some things with

felonies that are no longer and so certain crimes people have taken advantage of as a result changes in laws. but also our policies that prevent us from pursuing and those type of crimes. >> data shows like actual shows that high speed pursuits. don't keep us any safer. the actually make our communities much, less safe. cat brooks is co-founder of the anti police terror project. we've seen 2 analysts, 2 incidents with oakland police department, people were killed people were harmed. people are hurt because of police chases. the didn't stop the sideshows. when the look i was murdered it's not going to stop anything else. >> now the policy is currently under review by the oakland city council. we reach out to the mayor's office and several city council members but have not heard back on the governor's letter. business owner is applauding the governor's prompt to allow for more police chases lgbtq+

nightclub k rico was burglarized earlier this week. thieves ransacked the club's bar area stealing expensive bottles of liquor. also broke into the office club owner, valentino carrillo says that it is now the 10th time they've been hit in just 3 years. he says police say that they saw the suspects leaving the scene and 2 cars but did not go after them because of the current. no chase policy carrillo says that these criminals need to be stopped. and the governor is making the right call. >> i think it's definitely about this much crime going not only an open but state. i'm pretty confident in the in the police. i'm not so much. you know, the prosecution part. there seems to be a lot of you know. letting the criminals do what they want. and very before that. and so that really needs to be looked at there. >> kay rico on 15th and franklin streets there

>> doctors, nurses and community leaders are still fighting to prevent changes that regional medical center's trauma center in san jose kron four's lezla gooden has the latest for us. >> regional medical center's announcement to keep their trauma center open. but instead to downgrade is not going well with hospital workers and community leaders who've been pushing to save it. the community is fired up like their lives depend on it because we know that it is darcy green organizer for rescue our medical care campaign. >> says on friday she and other advocates were able to speak with regional medical center directly for the first time. the results of the meeting is that nothing has they were not able to meet our demand. he went in there. the goal. asking them to restore the trauma services at the level that they were. and 2

that sunrise dave spahr joining us right now. so i actually had to turn the windshield wipers on this morning telling my coffee all of place, which is really a drag. but does that mean it's cooler? >> that is exactly what it means. and that's what we can expect for the entire weekend. good morning, theresa. good morning, everybody. look at the san jose state shows how far that fog is gone. it's already gone to the santa clara valley a little bit here. now, this will mix out and for you folks inland as well. yeah, that will do so. but around the bay, we have some scattered clouds throughout the day today. quick temperature check for you. we're at 62 for antioch, a lot of upper 50's in the east bay up north, middle to upper 50 61. meanwhile for san jose, we showed you the contrast where it's actually a little cooler this morning inland. but here's what's going to bring in the continuation supply of that marine layer. the onshore winds. they're very firmly in place. now, even though above us, the heirs fairly dry. you're going to get that clearing inland against san jose state. all that in some portions of the east bay. but

along the water's edge, it's going to be tough to do san francisco up to southern marin. expect that overcast conditions to remain through much of the day. now. tomorrow, a better afternoon break up as expected. but if you're headed to the coast the entire weekend, it's going to feel like you're in september, october already. so lot of cloud cover to get through. it's very obvious from this on future cast for that's going to kind of freezes and no today to 45 are still dealing with some clouds on the east bay shoreline and look at the peninsula kind of socked in a little bit. so again, it's going to be a lot of aggressive cloudiness, particularly westerly inland. again, you'll see some quick clearing this returns for your sunday morning shore. but then breaks up in clears on out. might have some morning drizzle again, but clears on out a little quicker, a little better for tomorrow afternoon. but all of this adds up to cooler temperatures throughout the entire weekend and really next week, it's a struggle to kind of recover. speaking sfo, we have the background here. they're looking about a 45 minute or so delay going on here. it's an odd of vacation, cool 70's even inland for next

down millions of computers and created chaos for many airlines airports nationwide. we had literally tens of thousands of flights canceled. delta says it grounded thousands of its flights from friday through wednesday. secretary pete buttigieg announced the department of transportation is investigating. you are entitled to cash if your flight is canceled and you don't take a rebooking. missouri senator josh hawley says he's gotten indications airlines aren't doing that. i want to make sure they're complying with the law. aviation wasn't the only industry affected. lawmakers say they're concerned. one software glitch could have such broad effect on our economy. will it concerns me that so much of our economy polluting our? >> air transportation is dependent on a single software supplier. >> crowdstrike is a popular cybersecurity company last friday. it pushed out of faulty update to windows computers, bringing down billboards affecting hospital communications and 9-1-1,

center's. this was just a drop in the bucket of what could happen. texas congressman tony gonzales was unable code expert. he says even though this was an attack, it shows what could happen if someone did hack a popular software less than one percent of our 2% of microsoft's overall machines were impacted. and yet it was the worst. it outage in history. he says the government needs to be on offense to make sure this never happens again in washington. i'm today some lot. >> the learning customers of a data breach involving personal information and credit cards. the company says it happened between april second, 10 may 18th the breach affected customers in the united states, mexico and canada disclosed information includes names, birth date, banking information and possibly credit card numbers. ticketmaster says impacted customers should have received an email or letter by now customers affected are advised

police got a frightening call. a woman was in a pool faced down this happening. >> in fairfield off of alaska avenue when police arrived, they found a man pulling the woman which had been the woman

had been submerged in a pool for what they say was about 5 minutes. another woman was on the scene. she was performing cpr, but you can find a pulse police deputies and performed cpr and were able to revive the victim. now, later, the hospital, doctors say that the quick action from the witnesses and police saved the woman's life. earlier this week, a san francisco jury has convicted a man they call and prolific burglar darren rim heiress. perez was convicted on multiple charges, including residential burglary, vandalism and grand theft auto between 2021 to 2023 were mayor is perez was arrested more than 5 times for various residential break-ins and auto burglary. officials say that he is set to be sentenced on august 18th. the port and city of oakland is giving 3 million dollars from caltrans to help us sea level rise and ground water intrusion. the money will be spent on plans to

prevent and mitigate climate change. induced flooding and the maritime ports airport and surrounding neighborhoods. the port will also give a million and a half dollars to help fund the project that's expected to include community input throughout the planning process. vintage wine estates. that's and major wine producer in santa rosa has filed for bankruptcy and has announced mass layoffs according to state filings, the company will lay off 377 workers. the layoffs will impact. employee said 10 different facilities across mendocino napa, san louis obispo and sonoma counties. they are set to take effect in late september. >> days, know, in area, drive safe. >> very sad to still ahead on the kron morning news. 2 people are dead after their car crashes off of highway one and down a cliff near pacifica.

good morning. welcome back to kron. 4 morning news on this saturday. let's start this half hour. the look at the forecast. dave spahr in the weather center with the very latest for us. i day a good morning, theresa. good morning, everybody. and how about that? fog is hanging overhead a little bit. that's going to help cool us off. continued with that onshore wind. >> supplying some fresh marine layer moisture for us. but that does mean quite a bit of cloud cover for portions of the bay today, this east bay shore line shot that you can see here. it will clear out a little better than this, but we'll still see some scattered clouds in our future. looks like uoday. little bit better. clearing is expected as we get into tomorrow. >> there it is. you're onshore winds. double digits in the couple of pockets there or very high single digits with that numbers for you. lower 60's, some upper 50's in place. and we compare that to 24 hours ago. little cooler looks like in london yesterday. little warmer in a couple other pockets off towards the west. out today. we do see inland clearing out this morning fog and all we go back to mostly sunny and look at those afternoon. temperatures there. lower 70's

something leads our conversation around how oakland recovers. >> but just over 100 days until the election, neither tao or price have done much campaigning. it think that it would be a active campaign. recall expert joshua spivak with berkeley law says over 60% of elected officials facing recall nationwide lose. >> and another 60% resign in advance if talon price want to avoid that, he says they must maximize the time they have by getting on the campaign trail as if it's a regular election condit nor that it's a recall. >> focus on your record was what accomplished much the same way as when one for election run for reelection that to spivak says what those being recalled want to avoid. >> he's campaigning on the notion that recalls are undemocratic, voters have calculated that into the process. understand what the

recall it and we're going with school disapprove of elected official. >> not a certainty whether they just about deal. we up. >> one big unknown is how oakland born kamala harris's entrance into the presidential race might affect the recall. if it does energize progressives to get involved as expected. experts say it could have an impact on the recalls outcome. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> now update to a story we've been following all week. the oakland public ethics commission investigation into the committee behind the recall of mayor sheng thao out of oakland. on thursday, we told you that the judge issued a tentative ruling that the recall committee did not have to turn over documents because the public ethics commission request was unconstitutional. the 2 sides were scheduled to meet in court friday, but now the judge in the case has recused herself. therefore, friday's hearing was canceled, meaning her tentative ruling

goes away. the case will now be assigned to another judge. it's unclear why the judge recused herself. a teenager is in custody for a violent person ching take a look at this surveillance video that shows the attack. it happened on the evening of june 4th, an elderly woman is approached by the teenager in a parking lot mckee road near this and is a regional medical center. her attacker grabbed purse, throws her to the ground and runs away. the woman was taken to the hospital for injuries. police were finally able to identify a suspect last week arrested the teenager believed to be responsible. he now faces elder abuse and assault. a police have arrested 3 men accused of robbing someone who was selling merchandise from an online marketplace. officers say the robbery happened back in april on gate few drive near 6, 8, of the victim was completing the transaction with one person went to others, approached him and started hitting him with

guns. according to police, the thieves ran off more than $4,000 worth of merchandise place eventually identified. the accused robbers. 2 of them are 1917 years old. they were booked into jail for robbery. tragedy on the coast. 2 people are dead after their car goes off a cliff and falls between 30400 feet. this all pacifica. the crash happened shortly before noon on friday on highway one in the area of devil's slide between pacific on tara, multiple chp officers along with fire crews and other law enforcement agencies responded the highway was shut down in both directions for several hours. chp is investigating what caused the crash. they have not yet identified the people killed. we spoke with one woman who was caught up in the back up. >> we got down to the bottom of the hill police caught couple more fire trucks.

good morning, teresa. good morning, everybody. and that a strong marine layer that we have is going to keep some around the bay looks like a ks good chunk of the day. it will break up in the afternoon, of course, across the bay. but for san francisco, golden gate going to see a lot of those fog clouds remaining know this is still the ground level. as you can see, the east bay shoreline just starting to peel out a little bit and we got to get this stuff aloft and get to mix out a bit. and this is what we want to drive home at the coast, particularly can see those numbers still continue to retreat back to single digits. and that will be due to this continuation of the fog throughout the afternoon. a little bit onshore. winds continue to bring the fresh marine layer in all day today. that's why san francisco golden gate into southern moran. it will be kind of a problem area seeing quite a bit of cloud cover today as it will be along the coast, too. we see lower slower, 50 lower 60's, rather upper 50's for a lot of the east bay. upper 50's covered the north bay. and actually that's a little cooler for the folks inland and just about everybody now catching up a bit with that as we have a cooler start to your

day that we saw from yesterday and of these morning clouds you're seeing even inland. that's going break out. 74 expected by the mid-afternoon. how about that? no 90's on there, even for you, folks in london. that will be the same for tomorrow. but some better clearing. it looks like for the bay. more details on that weekend forecast in a bit theresa day. thank you for that. with strong winds fueling to wildfires in the east bay, prompting evacuations as flames coming dangerously close. >> to some homes evaluation, evacuation orders, rather are in effect for the wilderness. regional preserve and homes along welsh creek road because of the creek fire. the creek fire started just before 4 friday afternoon and has quickly grown to nearly 600 acres. it is only 5% contained. meanwhile, the point fire burned nearly 500 acres in contra costa county kron four's jack moment starts our fire coverage from bay point. >> so the big story this wildfire season in california so far has been these high

winds and extremely dry grassy conditions that have just made it really difficult for crews to battle these fires that we have seen so far. but on friday, in bay point, we did find several neighbors who were just thankful that crews responding quick enough keeping flames, sometimes 10 to 20 feet away from their homes. >> a fire going you can see it from the main road of 450 plus acre fire ripping through the foothills between concord and bay point. the first thing i thought was going to get my son because it looked like it was really close by where my son school is located. >> amid several evacuation warnings and even one evacuation neighbors here had no choice but to watch as cal fire, local fire crews did their best tackling the flames from the ground and the spraying retardants over homes, cars and streets. this point. i was in my backyard for ariana torres. this fire came way too close for comfort in. this is where i live. so

through it. >> at cal fire crews are set to continue working on this fire throughout the evening on friday, going into the weekend because of those high winds and those dry grassy conditions that forward progression of the fire has stopped and that containment is still slow going up. reporting here in bay point jacmel. kron 4 news. >> and tracking more fires for you. a fire burning near 5.80, and north flynn road in alameda county is 80% contained. this fire started around 9.45 thursday night and burned nearly 400 acres. a driver call 9-1-1 to report that their car was on fire and that the flames had spread to the nearby hillside. the fire forced crews to temporarily shut down 5.80. no one was injured. no buildings were damaged. fortunately. meanwhile, the park fire burning in butte county is currently california's largest fire of the year. the fire has grown to an estimated 300 and 7 1000 acres after sparking on

wednesday, the burn zone extending from butte county into to heyman county cal fire estimates that the flames destroyed at least 134 structures. those are mostly homes. evacuation orders remain in place. a chico man was arrested thursday on an arson charge. authorities say that the man pushed a burning car into ongoing, which ignited the fire. in the east oakland police department is investigating a deadly shooting. it happened around 10, 30 thursday night on coliseum. way about a block north of the oakland coliseum. the identity of the victim has not been released at oakiam. police say it's an active investigation and they are still gathering details. governor newsom is stepping in to police matters. and oakland once again. now he is asking city officials to be more aggressive and bring back police pursuits. yesterday i spoke with some critics and supporters of changing the current policy. a policy under

scrutiny. on friday, california governor gavin newsom imploring >> going to get tougher on crime. specifically sending a letter urging the city to reconsider its no police pursuit policy. in a letter the governor writes to mayor sheng thao in the council. quote, i urge you to reconsider whether opd should be permitted to pursue suspects and more circumstances to improve public safety in your city and to establish a process to evaluate whether opd is making full use of its authority, including that granted under the existing pursuit policy to protect public safety and enforce a law, unquote. the governor recently stepped up efforts to send more highway patrol officers to oakland to help combat crime. adding recent data reflecting it is working. violent crime is down. but adding oakland's anti pursue policy is hurting efforts to be more effective.

circumstances of definitely change since. well, since i was chief. >> and i think, you know, oakland police department, city of oakland should consider some changes to the policy or on armstrong as oakland's former top cop who was fired by mayor thao for allegedly failing to appropriately discipline officers. but >> a magistrate recommended the city reverse the termination. he is now running for an at-large position on oakland city council. while he was chief. he supported putting a pause on pursuits. however, now. >> as laws change, write, the laws have change, which has made certain crimes a mess accountable than they were previously. and so that means that law enforcement has to adjust to when the initial policy went into place, some things with felonies that are no longer and so certain crimes people have taken advantage of as a result changes in laws. but also our policies that prevent us from

meet in court friday, but now the judge in the case is recused herself. therefore, friday's hearing was canceled, meaning her tentative ruling goes away. the case will now be assigned to another judge. it's unclear why the judge recuse yourself. a teenager is in custody violent purse. snatching and sand is a take. a look at the surveillance video showing the attack. it happened on the evening of june 4th, an elderly woman is approached by the teenager in a parking lot on mckee road near the center is a regional medical center. her attacker grabbed purse, throws her to the ground and then runs away. but the woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries. police were finally able to identify a suspect last week and arrested the teenager. they believed to be responsible. he faces charges of elder abuse. some say police have arrested 3 men accused of robbing someone who was selling merchandise from an online marketplace. officers say that the robbery

happened back in april on glut gate view drive near 6.80. the victim was completing a transaction with one person when 2 people approached him and then started hitting him with guns. according to police, the thieves ran off of more than $4,000 worth of merchandise. police eventually identified the accused robbers. 2 of them, our 19 year-olds and one is a 17 year-old they were booked into the jail and charged with robbery. the tragedy on the coast. 2 people are dead after their car goes off a cliff and falls between 30400 feet. a pacifica. the crash happened shortly before noon on friday on highway one in the area of devil's slide between pacific on tara. multiple chp officers along with fire crews and other law enforcement agencies responded. the highway was shut down in both directions for several hours. chp is investigating what caused the

do their jobs looking to get into the area so that they can quickly extinguish the fires. >> we we've seen and other fires. people take out hoses trying to fight fires on one hand, it yeah, understandable that people want to get out there and do what they can to protect the property. but at the same time. it can be kind of a dicey situation. we do want to see anybody correct? >> that's correct. but we want to remind the public that we want to leave the firefighting to the firefighters. they've done extensive training and have experience in fire weather and behavior. and it's important that you beat that. that job to the firefighters and make sure that you can get yourself in a sleek space. >> and chelsea, what do you think as far as today is concerned? what are they going to be really specifically drilling down on? >> they're going to keep working on implementing and reinforcing containment lines.

and sir, can't they're going to start to mop up in the area and just continue to reinforce and this containment lines working hard throughout the day. >> are you hoping that there's going to be an air attack out there? >> we use ground and air resources on its most of our fires and there will be aircraft overhead today. >> we have noticed in the past year so that there is more arsenal out there for you guys to do the air attacks and drones and night vision and all of these new tools that really help on. are you able to deploy some of those resources in this area? i know that it's very rugged. so that rain is challenging for firefighters. >> and when it comes to tools like it's. >> it depends on where other aircraft we already have in there, that there's any kind of fire fighting aircraft and there were not going put drones in the sky. and that's just to think the thing.

for the east bay shoreline, which maybe you can expect a little bit tomorrow, too. however, it's going to be hard to really clean that out a little bit for today, particularly for san francisco, along the golden gate up to southern marin a little bit along the east bay shoreline to here's the golden gate shot for you as well. again, we have now the overcast skies start to take over back to the fog situation again. and it's going to be hard to clear along the coast elsewhere. yeah, no problem that will clear out for the afternoon onshore winds and in place. they're going to be that way all week long. now, the start to have some bite to them and start to impact our weather a little bit and bring down those temps. current numbers, 63 for antioch, mostly 50's on the board. and when you compare that to 24 hours ago, yeah, we're starting to trail by some noticeable numbers because of this clearing patches. little slow, double digits behind slow, double digits behind well inland. you can see 2. goes at 71 by 1 o'clock by 4 73. a greatly reduced numbers for you as we get to the afternoon in a bit. we'll take a look at your forecast for the weekend. theresa

>> day. thank you for that. with strong winds fueling to wildfires in the east bay, prompting evacuations as flames coming dangerously close to some homes. evacuation orders are in effect for the wilderness, regional preserve and homes along the welsh creek road because of the creek fire. creek fire started just before 4 friday afternoon. and has quickly grown to nearly 600 acres. it is only 5% contained. meanwhile, the point fire that is burning over in contra costa county, about 500 acres so far. kron four's jack moment starts our fire coverage from bay point. >> so the big story this wildfire season in california so far has been these high winds and extremely dry grassy conditions that have just made it really difficult for crews to battle these fires that we have seen so far. but on friday, in bay point, we did find several neighbors who were just thankful that crews responding quick enough keeping flames, sometimes 10 to 20 feet away from their homes.

>> a fire going on. you can see it from the main road of 450 plus acre fire ripping through the foothills between concord and bay point. the first thing i thought was going to get my son because it looked like it was really close by where my son school is located. >> amid several evacuation warnings and even one evacuation neighbors here had no choice but to watch as cal fire, local fire crews did their best tackling the flames from the ground and the arab spring retardants over homes, cars and streets. >> this point, i was in my backyard for ariana torres. this fire came way too close for comfort in. this is where i live. >> so that will take off. >> if the firefighters did it. not they want >> less than 20 feet is what stood between the fire and her home. it was very very scary, because i relieving in this home imagines is. >> my house getting burned

reporting here in bay point jacmel. kron 4 news. >> tracking more fires. a fire burning near 5.80, in north flynn road in alameda county is 80% contained. this fire started around 9.45 night and burned nearly 400 acres. a driver call 9-1-1 to report that their car was on fire and the flames then spread to the nearby hillside. the fire forced crews to temporarily shut down 5.80. no one was injured. no buildings were damage. thankfully. meanwhile, the park fire burning in butte county is currently california's largest fire. be year. the fire has grown to an estimated 307,000 acres after sparking on wednesday. the burn zone extending from butte county and to to hey, ma county cal fire estimates that the flames destroyed at least 134 structures most of those homes, evacuation orders remain in place. a chico man was arrested thursday on an arson charge. authorities say that the man pushed a burning car into a going which ignited

the park fire. in the east bay. the oakland police department is investigating a deadly shooting. it happened around 10, 30 thursday night on coliseum. way about a block north of the oakland coliseum. the identity of the victim has not been released yet. welcome. police say it is an active investigation and they are still gathering details. well, governor gavin newsom is stepping in to police in manners in oakley once again. now he is asking city officials to be more aggressive and bring back police pursuits. yesterday i spoke with some critics and some supporters of changing the current policy. >> a policy under scrutiny on friday, california governor gavin newsom imploring going to get tougher on crime specifically sending a letter urging the city to reconsider its no police pursuit policy. in a letter the governor writes to mayor sheng thao in the council. quote, i urge you to reconsider whether opd

should be permitted to pursue suspects and more circumstances to improve public safety in your city and to establish a process to evaluate whether opd is making full use of its authority, including that granted under the existing pursuit policy to protect public safety and enforce a lot of quote. the governor recently stepped up efforts to send more highway patrol officers to oakland to help combat crime. adding recent data reflecting it is working. violent crime is down. but adding oakland's anti pursuit policy is hurting efforts to be more effective. circumstances have definitely changed since. well, since i was chief. >> and i think, you know, oakland police department, city of oakland should consider some changes to the policy or on armstrong as oakland's former top cop who was fired by mayor thao for allegedly failing to appropriately discipline officers. but >> a magistrate recommended the city reverse the

the twists and turns donna crane here with us. i mean, i i was being sarcastic. of course, there is a lot to talk one thing that i think that a lot of people want to know right now is policy and platform and what kamala brings at this you know, the milk and issue inflation abortion, you know, reproductive rights. do you think those things are going really to the top and really dominate all of this? i think the major issues in this election are going to be immigration, inflation and reproductive rights. and in really interestingly, she has been the administration's point person on 2 of those 3. >> most people think that on one of them on reproductive rights, it's been to her advantage. it's a strength and they also think that another immigration has could be a detriment to her. so it's going to be really interesting to watch how these play out.

already starting to see that we seize. we see ads coming up from the trump campaign that emphasized her laugh. this is kind of a common attack levied against women. i know lots of men who have annoying last. they tend not to mean there are some exceptions. i'm thinking of howard dean, but, you know, they tend not to be emphasized the way women's laps r things like their her voice. is she too is she not enough? how did she get her job? did she sleep her way to the top? these are the kinds of attacks that we've already seen. so we'll have to sort of you know, we haven't had a race like this in 8 years and before that pretty much never. so we'll have to see how this plays out. i was called out the ice pick where they're just trying to pick you down. >> and with that, howard, during a member, that laughter absolute number. well, strength in a way. >> let's go to the veep stakes. so what is your pick? we have a one dollar bet. okay. one dollar well, i can tell you is i think the top 3

andy beshear, right cooper josh shapiro, what i hear from my friends on the inside is that she's looking for someone who has executive experience. so again, to meet that for very first requirement of a vice-presidential position to be ready to become president if it's necessary. we hope not. i'm also i think she'd be smart to pick somebody who has experience winning over republican there is now a group of voters in america that didn't exist for weeks ago. and that is that people who are everyone, almost everyone opinion about trump versus biden. not everyone has an opinion about kamala harris and whoever her a running mate will be. so there's an opportunity to pick up some votes here. i notice of that was talking to someone about registered voters. we have more younger people registering to vote right now. it kind of in that role of of kamala jumping in. yeah, that's exactly right. and you know, i i use my students as sort of an impromptu focus

group and they are they a i cannot overstate how unhappy they were with the choice they had between biden and trump and that they feel now they're super super excited. now they they want to know more about her policies but the but the fact that this race include some diversity, some generational perspective. likes of difference and generational perspectives on on worldview. it's really exciting to them. what about the debate? we saw former president trump said, well, you know, there's really not a candidate right now. so i can't really confirm i will participate in the september debate. however, kamala was out on the tarmac, just saying. >> bring it. absolutely. look, weeks. like let's let's just talk all the time. that's

>> on thursday, police had a frightening situation. a woman was in a pool face down this happening and fairfield off of alaska avenue. when police arrived, they found a man pulling the woman out of the pool. her face was submerged in water for they say about 5 minutes. another woman was on the scene. she was performing cpr. couldn't find the polls.

police deputies then took over. they performed cprnd they were able to revive the victim later at the hospital. doctors say that the quick action from the witnesses and the police probably saved the woman's life. earlier this week, a san francisco jury convicted the man they say a prolific burglar. darwin ramirez. perez was convicted on multiple charges, including residential burglary, vandalism and grand theft auto between 2021 2023. ramirez, perez was arrested more than 5 times for v-rious residential break-ins and auto burglary officials say is set to be sentenced on august 18th. the port and city of oakland is getting 3 million dollars from caltrans to help us sea level rise and ground water intrusion. the money will be spent on plans to prevent and mitigate climate change. induced flooding at maritime port airport and surrounding neighborhoods. the port will

why the judge recuse yourself. the teenagers in custody for violent purse naccine take a look at this surveillance video showing the attack. it happened on the evening of june 4th in elderly woman who was approached by a teenager in a parking lot on mickey road that is near. they sent us a regional medical center. her attacker grabbed purse, throws her to the ground and runs away. the woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries. police were finally able to identify suspect last week and arrested the teenager. they believed to be responsible. he is now facing charges of elder abuse and assault. police have arrested 3 men accused of robbing someone who is selling merchandise from an online marketplace. officers say that the robbery happened back on april on a gate view drive near 6.80. the victim was completing a transaction with one person when 2 people

approached him, started hitting them with their guns. according to police, the thieves ran off with more than $4,000 worth of merchandise. police eventually identified the accused robbers to them. 19 year-old and one is a 17 year-old they were booked into jail for robbery. a tragedy on the coast. 2 people are now dead after the car goes off a cliff and falls between 30400 feet into pacifica. the crash happened shortly before noon friday on highway one in the area that between double slide and between pacifica on tara, multiple chp officers along with fire crews and other law enforcement agencies responded. the highway was shut down in both directions for several hours. chp is investigating what caused the crash. they have not yet identified. the people killed. we spoke with one woman who was there at the scene. >> we got down to the bottom of police caught couple more
