cooling off in the 50's coast side. you still have warm 70's and 80's inland. 82 degrees. can you believe that still in conquer? it is. 84 in vacaville. so high pressure still holding on. but i think tomorrow watch our ridge begin to weaken somewhat. patchy. fog is going to start to creep up more along the coastline little monsoonal moisture like a wraparound our way to overnight tonight, fog getting a little thick in spots near the coastline just inside the bay that breaking up leaving lots of sunshine that will see some of that monsoon begin to rotate kind of into the bay area up in the high country to maybe a couple more thunderstorms headed toward the sierra nevada the next couple of days. and then things should begin to quiet down. thanks so much, lawrence. >>well, that's all for thousands of bay area. kids is right around the corner. but covid it's back front and center as well. giving some parents a pause as they try and balance the 2 issues. >>he sure you have enough tests at home so that your kids can be if they have any snow full team, though, it seems mild because they may be

11:42 pm
running mate, minnesota governor tim walz. kron four's justine waldman spoke with usf professor of politics, james taylor for more insight. so lets just start here. what do you think of kamala selection? >>well, one of the things that that was i look at article read the article and then looking to the comments below, it read the comments. i know there's always information that you get. you can get a sense of how people feel. and right now there's a lot of enthusiasm for this pick. people are crediting kamala harris for that decision and the deliberation process and again, everything she does in terms of a campaign is kind of how her administration will transfer over from the campaign to government. and so everything she does is going to be evaluated and her pick right now is a home >>a lot of people are saying it's a safe choice to agree with that. >>absolutely not. has a high school teacher. was the adviser to the straight alliance. you know, he's out,
11:43 pm
you know, that children minnesota through free food programs, he's going to be called left liberal. but when he was a congressman, he center right. nice kind of scent of left. so he's kind it logically similar to kamala harris, probably more progressive that he's allowed to to it outright. but he's done a lot of a positive thing. i think he's ready for the criticism. he has a big areas. personality has grandfatherly look, children love him. young men will be able to relate to the fact that he's a coach at 17 years old, his father dies. he collects social security. how many people can relate to those kinds of realities? he's not elite from 17 to 41. he stayed in the national guard as a boy and became a man in there. and then he ran for congress, denny governance. he dealt with the george floyd situation and derek and many people thought he was on the right side of that issue. but that opens them up to, you know, the criticism of being
11:44 pm
anti and so again, it's not a safe pick. >>so we talked a little bit here about like his personal resume, how he grew up, where he was from a little bit about his past life before he entered politics. but what has he done in minnesota that you think the harris campaign the wants sort of attach itself to and move forward? >>well, i think it's it's more minnesota. i think it's not even about like winning a state anymore with vp picks. i don't know since the 80's it. that's really been factor. it's more about what he is he nets regional in the midwest. he's everyday americans. he's someone that ordinary people can relate to his what kamala harris she found her joe biden it's a way obama needed older white men balance him off for the middle of american voters. so wouldn't appear to be this kind of radical moment in history. kamala harris has found someone to talk to image wise, who represents that. she
11:45 pm
did what obama did. she found someone that could help her in her areas of vulnerability is not where he's from its what he is. it's his biography, white men, ordinary, you know, across the region can relate to him on many different grandfather, father, football coach, high school teacher. i mean, all of those elements in the country, even national guard are excited about this pick because he represents them. and again, he's not an elite. so, you know, typical republican challenger, especially the california is hollywood well, that argument is is is offset by this selection of of the walls. >>so does this choice and it sounds like it does to you unify democrats. what does that do to the republican side? >>i think in the same way comma and the same way that the republicans had a hard time pivoting to they also are going to have a hard time trying to define a governor they can use generalizations, but he punches back. he's a
11:46 pm
counter punch and that's the problem is he is as outspoken as trump, but he says great things like, you know, i'm a monster because i feed the children of minnesota. so again, i think kamala harris hit a homer i think everybody on the democratic is excited. the problem trump is now they're going to try to define this gentleman when his own biography is as is more impressive than jd vance's. i mean, jd vance's bar duffy is now in question, right? but now mister walz is really one of them. you know, in terms of ordinary working person who made good in life. >>and his biography sees much younger than he looks because again, he's talking about when he was 17, how he became part of and how that informs his life very powerfully. so and again, with the high school in decatur, high school who can't relate to a high school football coach in high school teaching. all of us have high school teachers, high school coaches. we like when we last time the last time we've been
11:47 pm
able to talk about someone being a teacher other than joe biden. in politics like this. so this is great for the democrats. >>well, that's all the time we have right now. but i can kind of hear in your voice, the the excitement you have about this and maybe some relief that the selection has been made and now we can move forward. professor, thank you excited about the excitement. i'm not excited about was himself. i'm excited about that way. the democratic party is excited and rallying around him and now the republicans have to figure out a counter narrative and that as a student of politics. >>and just like watching and watching over these developments happening. this is amazing. >>more news comingon

project confidence that they look like they're having fun with what they're doing and it looks like this pair is going to do just that. what's more governor waltz from really is an every man in kind of the best sense of the term. he doesn't have a career. is millionaire hedge fund manager or some, you know, leading lawyer scholar, he's served in the in the military as a noncommissioned officer in the national guard. he's a schoolteacher and a football coach. he's a kind of guy that i think a lot of people can relate to. and yet he has all the all the necessary experience. he's been a successful governor now of minnesota for over 5 years before that he served 6 terms in the house of representatives and he also represented the district this largely rural and small town. and the democrats have been hemorrhaging support among small town and rural people for a long time. this is a kind of got you cook who can actually connect with those people. i think he can do this. take a lot of good. >>but you definitely got the sense that it was game when he

speak before harris and walls did the arena there in philadelphia. obviously a pennsylvania one of the key battleground states. do you think it's risky to have not gone with shapiro? >>no, i think that actually was was a much better and a safer choice. i think governor shapiro has many, many good qualities in many advantages. but first of all, he doesn't have that much experience. he's only been governor for about a year and a half, a much less experience that and then governor walz has what's more. i think governor shapiro in some ways he looks like that kind guy who's going to trying too hard. he keys, nakedly, ambitious. you can really see it. what's more? he looks and sounds so much like obama when he's giving speeches that i think it strikes. a lot of people is is rather again, many good qualities, very smart guy. but i don't think he's nearly is relay double as governor wolf says. and so i think for those
12:46 am
vice president harris made the rate the right choice, i might also add governor shapiro, he's been, you know, he's going to carry the same baggage on the israel-gaza that president biden did. you know, he's very pro israel in this this conflict. he has a long history of saying and doing things a suggests that he's really doesn't have much, much sympathy for the palestinians. that could be problem with especially young progressive voters. and in fact, that dragged down their support for president biden. i don't think ga governor will springs that baggage. so i think that for many reasons, vice president harris really made a smart choice with governor walz. >>you alluded to this, shapiro is jewish and, you know, there had been talk that maybe harris goes with shapiro to go all-in on trying to get the centrist vote to kind of say, you know, we don't need the
12:47 am
progressive vote. shapiro obviously is supporting this ticket and gave a speech that some might say was rousing. you said he remind you of obama in terms of his skills as in order. do you think that pennsylvania can go blue and how key is that state? >>pennsylvania's key and it absolutely can. and i think it will go blue. and i think governor was actually helps with that. you know, he himself is a north midwesterner. i think he's the kind of guy who's really going to appeal to the constituencies in pennsylvania as well as in michigan, wisconsin, who the democrats absolutely need include a lot of white working class voters. well, i think you're going to governor was actually very relay double and look at his background is very much like theirs. and, you know, i think the governorship hero is, you know, his background is not really like there's he might appeal to them. but in some
12:48 am
ways, he's really, you more more of, you know, more from the himself in terms of his education, his personal background and indeed his personal style. i really do think again, the governor waltz is going to be the kind guy who's going to be able appeal 2, especially the kind of working class voters we're going to be necessary to win over pennsylvania, michigan and wisconsin, which are much with must-win states for the democrats. no tree in santa ros
