later this afternoon on to die back once again. and of course, air quality is a concern. i've got more coming up in weather. thank you very much, kathy, what happening today? vice president kamala harris will be in san francisco for a fundraiser. it is her first stop in the bay area since becoming the democratic presidential nominee. today. she will be at this private fundraiser. it's going to be held at the fairmont hotel. she's going to be joined by former speaker nancy pelosi tickets for the event range from $3300 going all the way up to $50,000 this week, harris has been holding rallies in battleground states. her campaign says that on friday night that rally in arizona was the biggest yet attracting 15,000 people. harris, his running mate, tim walz was there as well. and he took a shot at former president donald trump. >> you might have seen a few people showed up in philadelphia the other night.

and then 10,000 plus walked into a field in western wisconsin. arizona just couldn't leave it alone. could it's not as if anybody cares about crowd sizes or anything >> pulling results have been mixed. but harris reportedly now leads trump and 6 different polling averages. other news in the south bay, thousands of people were enjoying music at the san jose jazz summer festival. it's been a tradition since 1989 kron four's jacked moment has the story for us. >> fred first and it's been going on since 1989. and i've been coming since its inception in order to be a full enjoy or of the 35th annual jazz fest in san jose. there's one big prerequisite. first of all, you have to be the jazz a which i am. i grew

away from us. but you certainly see lots of smoke up toward the oregon border. so we in for a little bit of a diminish air quality in some areas, even right now that showing up. if you look some areas such as oakland, a san francisco, san jose, some areas have a little bit of extra air quality, moderate air quality instead of a really good air quality future cast. again, it's all about the fog. and of course, we've got some breezy conditions as well. so overall, it's not a bad day. it's a beautiful sunday. if you like the sunshine you might want to head inside because that's always a good place to go for the sun. but right along the coast, it is gray. what's going on in the big picture? this is the area of high pressure, the ridge that brought us the really warm conditions as it moves away from monday into tuesday. you'll a dip right here in the jet stream. that's a trough that will be affecting our weather. that brings continued cooling conditions for us throughout the work week. so we're in for a treat is going to be very nice. no more sweltering heat. not for us. not this week. so that's the

that's what we get live along the coastline weekend. also in many areas inland. >> we'll start to see that will change this afternoon as things start to clear back a little bit. but the big change for us is temperatures will be cooler. we've got a cooling trend in effect for this week. here's a look at half moon bay. no surprise there. it's gray. it's often re ther early in the morning and the fog products shows we're going to see that gray through much of the bay area and then it will pull a little bit back toward the coastline as we head into the afternoon hours only to repeat again overnight tonight into tomorrow. so it will be gray. that's the main thing. some areas of sunshine in the east bay, some areas of sunshine on the peninsula, as you might expect. but the air quality is another big factor. because guess what? smoke from the fires is heading in our direction. it's not going to be a severe amount of smoke, but enough to trigger an air quality advisory. some areas in the bay area right now are showing pretty good air quality. other areas are showing moderate. so green is good. the yellow is moderate and i've got more details

coming up and whether theresa back to you. thank you very much. capital. after months drama and debate stomach state lawmakers. >> finally advanced a bipartisan package of public safety bills. supporters say that this will tackle the issue of organized retail theft to california's fentanyl epidemic. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports for us. aisd. 36 knows one the bill passes with that vote. members of the legislature overwhelmingly advanced a bipartisan package of public safety bills. >> among the california retail theft reduction it will create a penalty of prison time up to 3 years for those convicted of stealing property with the intent to sell it. the bill will also allow for what's known as aggregation, meaning several thefts committed by one person over a two-year period can all add up to meet the larger penalty for grand theft. also included in the package, a bill to increase penalties for car break-ins and another bill to expand a diversion and rehab programs for people in lieu of prison.

and for those experiencing substance use disorders, these bills or get driven. packed communities safer and but it all comes after a summer of drama in the legislature. all starting up to critics expressed concerns the bill package does not touch prop 47. that's the 2014 vote or approved a law that change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors and loose and penalties for offenses like retail theft. when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. supporters say prop 47 resulted in criminal justice reform and reduced california's prison population. but opponents argue it let criminals off the hook. earlier this summer, these organizers announced that they qualify their own november ballot measure to reform prop 47 governor gavin newsom has long opposed to the reform. 47 measure and even tried to add his own competing measure to the ballot. but his bid ultimately failed. democrats tried to add their own bill amendments to counter the reform. 47 measure, but

that too failed with all that behind them. now they're glad to see their current public safety package support about law enforcement's dixon specials and look forward to getting a second. still, a handful of democrats argue the bills go too far. these measures deep in mass incarceration. >> deepening mass incarceration is to going in rivers public. and on the other hand, say while they support the legislature's public safety bills, they believe the legislation does not go far enough. >> a true public safety impact they argue can only voters approved prop 47 reform this november. make sure that crimes punishable in california. we don't see this rampant crime on our constituents and the legislature is expected to formally send the public safety bills to the governor's desk early next week reporting at the state tom wallace kron 4 news. >> microsoft has uncovered are covered what it our cyber attack efforts by iran

intense. you would see the intense smoke up here where the oranges are there. medford, we don't get the intense smoke. u.s. a little bit of green starting to encroach right there across the north bay. that would be tonight. and then you know what it starts to pull back. the winds are starting to push all of the smoke away. so you'll see the area black with that sea breeze. that is good news for us in terms of air quality. but in the meantime, all the many areas do see green, which is good. we also see a few areas of yellow in oakland and san jose at this point. and so our air quality forecast is moderate for the north bay east bay and south bay. pretty good at the coast, as you might expect with a sea breeze is speaking. a sea breeze is not so breezy right now. you still saw some leaves rustling in the trees. if you look. but you know what, it really strengthens as you get into the evening in the afternoon and the evening. so as much as 26 mile per hour. gusts in sandra fell 19 through the golden gate 30 in vacaville. so you see gusty winds on to dive back. pull

hours, mainly in the 50's a few 60's. antioch is the warm spot right now at 67 degrees. so not much change. a little bit cooler in such bots is san francisco, but air quality is a concern. green is good. yellow is moderate and he was a pull in toward the bay area. you see some green still that there's a little bit of yellow right there in the east bay, oakland, san jose, seeing only moderate air quality and guess what? there is an air quality advisory that's been in effect the last couple of days extended through today, moderate north bay east bay, south bay, good air quality right along the coast. here is the surface smoke forecast. these are from the wildfires. smoke is coming in our direction the good news is only blue. that's the looming, smallest amount of smoke compared to the bright oranges and yellows. so you see right here, bay area, light blue turning into the little bit deeper blues and then it starts to pull away. the breezes are pushing away the smoke from us. so lucky us

future wind gusts. yeah, the winds are helping push that away. it's going to strengthen this afternoon up into the 20's in places such as sandra fell at. 24 fairfield, 25 mile per hour gusts overnight tonight. the wind not so strong. high pressure is moving away and that is the good news. there it goes. and guess what? he was a trough, big area of low pressure. that's going to start to really influence our weather. hence the cooling trend and that cooling trend continues. not just today, not just this week, but the 6 to 10 day outlook blue on this map means below normal. temperatures. so if you've been craving some cooler temperatures, it is your lucky day. it's your lucky week 60's for the most part in san francisco right along the coastline, 60's mainly for the highs. you start to head toward the peninsula, upper 60's to 70's go south a little bit into 70's upper 70's and 80's 81 degrees in some spots, such as campbell, santa clara. and then you head to the east bay.

>> now on the kron 4 morning news, a former youtube chief executive and google executive has passed away. microsoft has uncovered what it says are cyber attack efforts aimed at influencing the u.s. presidential election. good morning, everyone. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news on the sunny. let's start this half hour with look at the fact forecast for you. kathy. >> trafton is in the weather center with more. hi, kathy. >> good morning. it is gray and areas across the bay area. you know that if you look outside, it's coastal great, but it's also inland graham, many spots we're in for a cooling trend. and so it's no surprise that we see the gray skies. we also have an awful lot of breezes will be kicking up, especially this afternoon and get down again tonight. so

here's the headline. coastal clouds, yes, clouds inland. also some areas inland, clear out, but not everywhere. the cooling continues. and that trend continues for the next week or so with temperatures below normal. so here's the fog. quite extended fog this afternoon. some of that pulls back toward the coastline, but not everywhere. so as you go outside, you might want to bring in extra layer or 2 because the clouds again continue overnight tonight in terms of air quality. it's pretty good in some areas, but not everywhere. moderate air quality in some parts of the east bay, including oakland as well as san jose. that's where you see little yellow dots. yellow translates to moderate air quality. that would be for the north bay east bay and south bay co side. pretty good air quality. and that's because of the wildfires. so that's a big concern today. high temperatures 65 in san francisco, oakland, 69 san jose, 81, i've got the full forecast coming up in just a bit. thanks for that. after

months of drama and debate staley, state lawmakers finally advanced a bipartisan package of public safety bills. >> supporters say that this will tackle the issue of organized retail theft and california is fentanyl epidemic. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. aisd 36 knows one the bill passes with that vote. members of the legislature overwhelmingly advanced a bipartisan package of public safety bills. >> among the california retail theft reduction it will create a penalty of prison time up to 3 years for those convicted of stealing property with the intent to sell it. the bill will also allow for what's known as aggregation, meaning several thefts committed by one person over a two-year period can all add up to meet the larger penalty for grand theft. also included in the package, a bill to increase penalties for car break-ins and another bill to expand a diversion and rehab programs for people in lieu of prison.

and for those experiencing substance use disorders, these bills or driven. packed communities safer and but it all comes after a summer of drama in the legislature. all starting up to critics expressed concerns the bill package does not touch prop 47. that's the 2014 voter approved a law that change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors and loose and penalties for offenses like retail theft. when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. supporters say prop 47 resulted in criminal justice reform and reduced california's prison population. but opponents argue and let criminals off the hook. earlier this summer, these organizers announced that they qualify their own november ballot measure to reform prop 47 governor gavin newsom has long opposed to the reform. 47 measure and even tried to add his own competing measure to the ballot. but his bid ultimately failed. democrats tried to add their own bill amendments to counter the reform. 47 measure, but that too failed with all that

behind them. now they're glad to see their current public safety package support about law enforcement's dixon specials and look forward getting a second. still, a handful of democrats argue the bills go too far. these measures the pin mass incarceration. >> and deepening mass incarceration is going in reverse. republicans on the other hand say while they support the legislature's public safety bills, they believe the legislation does not go far enough. >> a true public safety impact they argue can only happen voters approved prop 47 reform this november. make sure that crimes punishable in california. we don't see this rampant crime on our constituents and the legislature is expected to formally send the public safety bills to the governor's desk early next week reporting at the state tom wallace kron 4 news. >> microsoft has uncovered what it says are cyber attack efforts from iran specifically aimed at influencing the u.s.

presidential election. the company says that iranian fake news sites are being created with people impersonating activists, news nation's a lot shiraz. he has the details for us. >> tensions are running high in the middle east as iran vowed retaliation for the killing of a hamas leader in now iran hackers are targeting the u.s. election through online activities. microsoft releasing a report this week detailing the groundwork by several iranian fruits to commit cyber espionage and influence the 2024 election, including launching coburn new sites targeting u.s. voters, intimidation or inciting violence against political figures or groups sending spear-phishing emails in june to a high ranking official in a presidential campaign as well as compromising and account of a county level account of a county level government employee in a swin

state. today. the trump campaign saying it was hacked releasing a statement that read these documents were obtained illegally from foreign source is hostile to the united states. >> intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our democratic process. this comes after recent reports of an iranian plot to assassinate president trump. the iranians know that president trump will stop their reign of terror just like he did in his first 4 years in the white house. experts say threats by iran are not only on the web, but also on the ground. everyone is very happy to fight to the last. there are happy to fight to the last known person she up from afghanistan or pakistan. >> but they do not want full-fledged who are coming to the borders of iran one thing to shoot. a rocket on have is will shoot a couple back. it's now another thing. if israel does something like this company iran, they have to do something. maybe israel does something back, but they do not want full-fledged war coming to the borders of iran.

shortcuts before you actually need them. just be careful not to dial 9-1-1, accidentally. if you try to test them out. >> put instructions on how to use the shortcuts on my website. just go to rich on tech dot tv. i'm rich demuro. that's richaun tack. >> well, if you've used the cash app at all in the past 6 years, you may be eligible to receive some money. the company that owns cash app. has agreed to pay 15 million dollar settlement after they were accused of negligence following 2 data breaches. the settlement says that anyone who has used the app since august of 2018 and had authorized withdrawals from their account could be eligible. users are able to claim up to $2500. for your money. this morning, the wall street journal says the pay raises and bonuses are shrinking. nearly half of almost 2000 u.s. companies pulled in the 2nd quarter cut budgets for salary increases.

the medium raise this year was 4.1%. that's down from 4.5% 2023. and it's expected to drop to 3.9 in 2025. new survey out says that americans need 60 lazy days per year to feel rested and relaxed. it says that americans take lazy days in very seriously with one in 5 planning their lazy days in advance. and 67% opting to take their lazy days spontaneously conducted by talker research. the poll found that almost three-quarters are likely to fly under the radar. they don't tell anybody that they're going to be staying at home to relax and take and cash in on one of days. >> well, this is not one of those lazy days for me and not for 2 reasons either. it's a work day. and boy, you know what that work is the fog. lots of fog outside right now. this is the view from mount

>> i'm going to take a live look outside. you can see karl, the fog hanging out there, checking this all out that some people really do love the fox. i don't mind the fox but i do want to hike in the sun. so kathy is going to be here and tell us all about. >> well, you can get your day in the sun, theresa, that's for sure, especially to go far enough inland. but you do but gray skies. this is supposed to be a beautiful view from mount temple pious and the bay area. it's a beautiful view.

the low clouds. all right. we'll take it. and in fact, the fog forecast products showing us an awful lot of gray skies. it does pull back a little bit toward the coastline by the afternoon. and then overnight again, it's more gray blanketing the will hit mischel. see, it's not total blanket. so maybe if you go north, you might hit some ways. the sunshine and also in parts of the east bay that overnight. it's just great. that's the way it rolls. so that's okay. in terms of air quality, we do have some issues. temperature wise right now. pretty flat that blanket of fog and clouds keeps a son from really getting through and warming up it the ground and warming up the air, but still managing to get to some areas into the 60's at this point, some areas even pushing toward the 70's. but many places still staying in the 50's. 54 degrees right now in pacifica. 54 also in sonoma and 53 in petaluma. let me step back. you can see your area kelsey bill, one of the warmer spots. but gosh, their quality goodness gracious. of

course, the yellow is moderate. the green is good. and you know what? we get good in san francisco, moderate air quality from oakland down to san jose and there's air alert in effect right now. again, moderate quality form us coming up today, moderate for north bay east bay, south bay and very good right along the coastline. of course, it's the smoke from the wildfires at the service level that is triggering this air advisory. so we've got the blue that's, you know, not big amounts of smoke in the big amount would be up toward medford up where these fires are in the northern part of our state. but the blue does pull back. look at this. such good news for us by tomorrow. it's just the winds are pushing all the smoke away from us will be able to breathe a little easier a little more deeply. that's the good news. thanks to the wind. the winds will really start to kick up this afternoon, going to 19 to the golden gate this afternoon, 20 in petaluma. 24 in sandra

fell. so it's great kind of cools off again. and the winds die down again overnight. high pressure is finally moving away. you see it heading down toward paso. gives a chance for a trough, a big area of low pressure to take charge of our weather. that's what it's doing. we have below normal temperatures for us. coming up this weekend, even into next week, the 6 to 10 day temperature outlook, lou, in this map means below normal temperatures. you see, move into the bay area and it's just moderately below normal temperature, not chilly, but still you might want to bring in extra layer or 2. so what are the exact temperatures for us this afternoon? lot of areas in the 60's right in san francisco 50's right along the coast into the 60's they head toward the bay shoreline 60's and 70's warming up a little bit as you head south toward palo alto at 78 degrees toward cupertino at 81. and then 75 degrees in fremont. as you see in the east bay. it's going to be warm in some areas, concord, 85, but not sizzling

hot 88 for vacaville. 86 for yacht bill and back home in stinson beach. 65 degrees. a look at the extended outlook shows temperatures inland, stay mainly in the 80's. pretty close to normal and below normal in some areas wrong along the bay shoreline, 60's and 70's for the next week and looking at 60's right along the coastline. so it's lovely. no rain in the forecast. no scorching heat. we'll take it theresa, i'll take it as well. well, covid cases rising in the past couple months. we've got summer surge, right? some bay area counties are recommending community to take precautions. >> as the cdc warns of a potential vaccine shortage. joining us right now to talk about the whole summer surge vaccines fall vaccines, all that stuff arnab a judgy the associate professor state east bay cows, state east bay. i always want revert back to the old name. yeah. which is like stuck in my headspace. tell us

a little bit about what you guys are saying out there. we know the wastewater is showing that we have had a summer surge. so how can we best take care of to contra costa county recently said the public health said, you know, wear a mask your inside with a lot of people. so what do you guys say? >> so you're right that what you're reporting is consistent with what's in the literature, which is that we are seeing a summer this is the the highest surge we've seen in the summer months since the beginning of the pandemic. it's not as great as the winter peaks that we've seen. so that's good news secondly, although rates are hihh and these are largely based on the wastewater data analysis, the rates severe pulmonary disease related to covid hospitalizations and death actually are very low. so although we're seeing greater infection rates, the severity of the infections seem to not be translating into greater disease thankfully and professor what how should be best? >> you know, equip ourselves. you know, we're d dealing with

kids and loved ones and parents and grandparents. you know. >> getting 6. what do we do about that? >> so i think we practice those basic principles that we learned in grade school and that we've reinforced during the pandemic month. so first and foremost, good hygiene, washing our hands, all those things that we know but sometimes tend to put on the wayside. secondly, i think it's important to be a tune to our own health. not just for our own ability to, you know, get sick and whatnot, we might, in fact, along the way. so as you said, contra costa county has putting guidance for a mask not a mandate, but just guidance to say when we're in crowded indoor spaces are areas where there's a lot of intermingling with other people that we should exercise precaution. and that's just basically wearing a mask, especially if you're feeling ill or sick. again, i want to reiterate that the severity of the disease in any at more adverse consequences are not very high at this point. so i don't think people need to be cause for alarm. but i think we need to basically exact the principles that we learned early on in the pandemic. and we also learned that during

the pandemic, it, you know, to to wear a mask. >> would be, you know, one of those surgical masks are the you know, and then that there's no shame that we're just kind of trying to take care of ourselves, right? absolutely correct. and i think those of us that have people who are elderly and our family, myself included. >> those of us that have folks in our family that are in a peer circle that are immunocompromised. i think it's just a matter of respect for them just to make sure that we're doing what we can to keep you healthy. so i don't think there's any shame. and i think the last 3 years taught us that really wearing a mask is not just protecting ourselves, but also sort of affection for a fellow human being. talk about vaccines in the i know that i went online and, you know, there really isn't much out there right now. so we're all waiting kind of focused on the flu. >> vaccine as well as the latest covid vaccines. so what should we know about that coming down the pike? >> so the earlier vaccines that we have were created for variants that are no longer highly in circulation, right. and so what we're waiting for

right now, there's a family of variants called the flirt, variants up 3, 1, 1, to sort of the most common one. again, it's more highly contagious, which is probably what's responsible for the summer surge. but again, i want to reiterate that severe disease and death are still at all-time lows. so this new vaccine that's scheduled to come out in september, october of this year really is tailored towards those variants. so going out, rushing in a vaccine right now. first of all, it takes about, you know, one to 3 months to kick in. and second of all is tailored for a very and that's no longer out i would say, you know, do everything that we've talked about hygiene wearing a mask and those areas that are more sensitive. but at the same time, you know, making sure that we get our vaccines as soon as they're available in september, october, because those are the things that will protect us for the next summer surge. that will happen next summer. so a lot parents have been gardens have. >> kids going back to college? you know, they're going into these mass areas. so what would you say to, you know, kids going back into school?

>> well, luckily, most college stage students, mind included not my own kids, but my students, you know, they're usually more so than not healthy and are able to, you know, not deal with severe consequences. that being said, i think the thing we need to be more attuned to is, you know, 5.10, years ago if we had a sore throat, a rhinos, you know what, you just go to class, you just go do what you're doing now. i think it's important to call, you know, take pause. you do not take yourself out of, you know, circulatign or isolation or anything like that. but take pause. take a look at your symptoms. make sure that you do the things that we talked about. test yourself. if you do test positive, you know, the guidelines of change a little bit. it used to be that you would isolate for 5 days and go back out. now guidance is for 24 hours. you monitor your symptoms if you're fever-free for 24 hours. 24 hours. if you're fever-free. >> and your symptoms are improving. you can go back to your normal duties. again. the guidance is that you wear a mask not just to protect other folks, because even though if you're feeling fine, you still

with kathy trapped and she is in the weather for u.s.. hi, capping high. it is gray outside has been gray all morning and we've been keeping an eye on a number of factors, including the top of the transamerica pyramid. it's 853 feet high and it's still being obscured in some areas. >> by some fog, some low clouds. so it will start to clear out a little bit. if you're at the coastline, you may not see any sunshine today. and some areas in the mon even see sunshine. cooler conditions. little bit breezy. the cooling continues throughout the entire week with temperatures at or below normal fog past. yes, we've got lots of fog streaming inland and pulling back to the coast. daytime and dreaming inland once again overnight tonight into tomorrow. so no big changes terms of the air quality, though we do have moderate air quality in some areas right now, including in oakland and including in san jose. but good air quality so far right at the coast. there is an air quality advisory in effect and that is in effect

for everywhere across the bay area except at the coastline. that's cause of all the wildfire smoke that is heading in our direction. temperature wise. 65 san francisco today, oakland, 69 and 81 degrees in san jose. i've got the full forecast coming up. theresa. >> thank you very much, kathy, what happening today? vice president kamala harris will be in san francisco for a fundraiser. it is her first stop in the bay area since becoming the democratic presidential nominee. today. she will be at a private fundraiser at the fairmont hotel and she'll be joined by former house speaker nancy pelosi. tickets for the event range from $3300 to $50,000. this week, harris has been holding rallies in battleground states. her campaign says that friday night's rally in arizona was the biggest one yet attracting 15,000 people, harris, his running mate, tim walz was there and he took a shot at former president donald trump. >> you might have a few people showed up in philadelphia the

other night. and then 10,000 plus walked into a field in western wisconsin. arizona just couldn't leave it alone. could. haha. it's not as if anybody cares about crowd sizes or anything >> pulling results have been mixed right now. but harris reportedly now leads trump in 6 different polling averages. in the south bay. thousands of people are enjoying music at the center is a jazz summer festival saturday. it's been a tradition since four's jack moment has the story. >> fred first and it's been going on since 1989. and i've been coming since its inception in order to be a full enjoy or of the 35th annual jazz fest in san jose.

there's one big prerequisite. first of all, you have to be the jazz a which i am. i grew up in detroit and we love jazz and r b. jazz, you know, it's hard to find really good jazz. this is a real jazz musician while we're there, the headliner, herbie hancock from los angeles around the world. this just superstar has played with jazz greats throughout the decades like miles davis. he's also won. 4 grammys pretty good. he's he's international artist. thousands of people here for the second day of the jazz festival. many of them saying it's the first time back since the pandemic. >> my first time live carl babcock is here with his family and says this is one of the only times you can catch this many jazz musicians this close to home. >> in the same place, good news. >> there's good food. and there's a variety it. also comes at a break in the south bay heat throughout the summer with food and clothing, vendors to tickets for the

hope is that you guys are >> very sweet. today is the 3rd and final day of this year's outside lands music festival. chappell roan, slow dive and post malone are some of the many artists set to perform. local larry june and some of his fans cycle through the streets of san francisco on saturday. it was part of his event called bike with larry. the goal to promote getting out sign being active and generally enjoying a healthier lifestyle. a popular san francisco ice cream shop was burglarized on saturday. surveillance video shows 5 men breaking into mitchell's ice cream on santa fe avenue and leaving with just a bag of cookies. it happened around 3.30 saturday morning. now, employees say that the thieves trying to steal the store's safe, but that was bolted

down. cash tours have been emptied by workers. so the burglars only got away was tailing for some reason. they decided cookies was a grid. the owner says it still resulted in a very expensive mess to clean up. out because of because we have had to replace windows and doors in the we're going to hopefully accordion like metal in front of the store one week lows in evening to hopefully keep them from doing this again. >> police are still looking for the thieves. caltrain is celebrating the debut of its long-awaited electric train fleet. governor newsom for merced. house speaker nancy pelosi were at the ceremony could see right there. the line will run from san francisco to santa say it's being described as sleek and quiet. caltrain will and 2 electric trains a week until late september. now these

trains are going to be completely replacing the decades old diesel fleet. the aim is to improve air quality and help california reach its the mission goals. bay. fire crews managed to contain the 50 acre blaze there in suwannee county. cal fire says it all started friday afternoon on blue mountain drive near the intersection of highway 80. no one was injured and it's not clear yet how the fire started. santa clara county, a county fire was shut down. the almaden quick silver county park was closed saturday because of a brush fire near the guadalupe reservoir. the fire block access to the park. cal fire says the fire started around 10 on friday at last word it had burned roughly 5 acres. fortunately, no one was injured. a motorist was killed saturday morning or into the chp says it happened when a drunk driver crashed into that person. it happened just after

midnight on 24 near the saint stephen's off-ramp. the victim died at the scene. the accident forced all westbound lanes to shut down for a while. the driver was arrested for suspicion of felony felony dui. welcome. police are investigating a shooting at a car crash saturday which left one person dead. it happened around 2.30 in the aft in the morning rather on 12th avenue. officers say that the driver of the car that was involved in the crash have been shot several times. he died at the scene. no other details have been released 26 people have been charged in connection with the april 15th protest on golden gate bridge. they were a part of a group protesting the war in gaza and tens of thousands of palestinian deaths. this is video from that day. charges include felony conspiracy, false imprisonment and refusal to disperse of a riot. those charged have to surrender to

a ray of sunshine will be able to see some beautiful conditions inland, some blue skies, but not everywhere. so that's the news. we have the fog forecast products shows how much fog, how much is blanketing not only the coastline, but moving across many areas of the bay area. then again, starts to pull back toward midday to mid-afternoon. you see, look at that. some clear skies across the north bay, parts of the east bay. but some areas just remain socked in. and then again, the fog and the low clouds move again inland overnight tonight into tomorrow. so do get cold? you might want to wear a few extra layers. temperatures are not budging a whole lot right now because that for low clouds and fog, keep the sunshine for million getting through and really warming us up. so many areas still in the 50's. 59 nevado 66 for concord in antioch now is inching up towards 70. that's the good news. some areas of very good air quality across the bay area, but not everywhere. of course, green is good. the

yellow is moderate air quality. so for oakland, san jose and down toward santa cruz county. we're seeing some yellow. that's the moderate air quality. and you know what? here's the from air quality advisory in effect for moderate conditions across the north bay, east bay and south bay. this continues today has continued last couple of days, but i think this may be the last day this may be allowed to expire surface smoke. we've got it coming in from the wildfires where you see the blue. we've got some smoke at the surface and of course, much heavier thicker smoke where you see the oranges and yellows. that's not for us. thank goodness. we're lucky that the breezes are pushing inland. the sea breezes will start to clear out the smoke. this is the forecast anyway. that will look at clearing skies monday into tuesday and wednesday. so today will be the smoke is day and it's fairly light smoke. today's high temperatures, not bad 50's 60's while along the coast in the san francisco. 75 from mountain view 81% is a so warm in some spots inland, but not hot. forget about the

triple digits. 89 degrees in antioch, 79 for vallejo. what's happening the low pressure is moving in even as high pressure moves away. so the highs heading to texas. this still dip right here in the jet stream. that brings us the cooler temperatures, albeit little breezier all be a little grayer. that's what you expect. departure from normal you that. so you see where use of the blue areas here pushing a departure from normal a little bit cooler than normal. but some areas across the bay area and, you know, moderate made this kind of normal in some areas a little bit below and others. so that's the good news. we're not seeing any pink spanx on this map would be for the warmer temperatures, not in the bay area. central valley. now there's some warmer conditions. a look ahead. well, the 7 day forecast shows us temperatures inland in the 80's. that's after below normal. and again, 60's 70's right along the bay into the mostly for the coastline. you see some slight fluctuations

long. so it cooler. it's breezy. that's the headline. the cooling continues and we'll have temperatures at or below average, course, a below average. look at how the clouds are moving across the bay area. they start to pull back toward the coastline in some areas. but you'll see still a blanket of fog in some spots. so we'll have more clouds again, strengthening and moving inland again, overnight will be seeing a lot of gray in terms of air quality. there is an air quality advisory in effect. we have some moderate air quality expected in places such as oakland and san jose in pleasanton. this, of course, is due to the effects of the wildfires. so north bay, east bay, south bay, moderate air quality, good air quality right along the coastline. temperatures this afternoon, peak at 65 in san francisco. 69 in oakland and 81 degrees for san jose. back to you, theresa cafe. thank you. >> after months of drama, debate, state lawmakers finally advanced a bipartisan package of public safety. bill

supporters say that this we'll tackle the issue of organized retail theft and california's fentanyl epidemic. capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. aisd 36 knows one the bill passes with vote. members of the legislature overwhelmingly advanced a bipartisan package of public safety bills. >> among the california retail theft reduction it will create a penalty of prison time up to 3 years for those convicted of stealing property with the intent to sell it. the bill will also allow for what's known as aggregation, meaning several thefts committed by one person over a two-year period can all add up to meet the larger penalty for grand theft. also included in the package, a bill to increase penalties for car break-ins and another bill to expand a diversion and rehab programs for people in lieu of prison. and for those experiencing substance use disorders, these bills or get driven. packed communities safer and stop.

but it all comes after a summer of drama in the legislature. all starting up to critics expressed concerns the bill package does not touch prop 47. that's the 2014 vote or approved a law that change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors and loose and penalties for offenses like retail theft. when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. supporters say prop 47 resulted in criminal justice reform and reduced california's prison population. but opponents argue and let criminals off the hook. earlier this summer, these organizers announced that they qualify their own november ballot measure to reform prop 47 governor gavin newsom has long opposed to the reform. 47 measure and even tried to add his own competing measure to the ballot. but his bid ultimately failed. democrats tried to add their own bill amendments to counter the reform. 47 measure, but that too failed with all that behind them. now they're glad to see their current public safety package support about

along the coast and then we'll start to clear things back midday. and then it just repeats over and over again. low clouds and fog in the morning burning off by midday in some areas back to the coast. little bit of drizzle for some people as you head out. temperatures pretty flat so far. 50's 60's. not a big warm up because the clouds are really keeping the incoming solar radiation from warming up the ground and warming up the air on the other hand, antioch is now at 74 degrees in terms air quality. it's a bit of a problem enough to trigger a air quality advisory that's in effect for the bay area. again today. some areas still are green. that's good air quality. some areas are yellow and especially down in the santa cruz mountains. but that air quality advisories in effect for the north bay east bay, south bay for moderate air quality coast side. it's green. it's good in terms of the smoke. yeah. the smokes coming in from the wildfires and that's why we have the air quality advisory. blue is moderate, small amounts of smoke. and when you get up to

the oranges and reds up by medford, oregon woman, you really got the smokies, thick smoke. but you notice a sea breeze is a pick and pushing this away. so our surface smoke is going to go away come tomorrow. i think that air quality advisory will be allowed to expire. high pressure has moved away heading toward texas and that gives a chance for a low pressure trough to develop. and that's what's influencing our weather. we've got the low clouds. we get the foggy a little bit of drizzle a bit breezy temperature wise in the city, mainly in the 60's. the sunset 58 degrees along the coastline. again, just hovering around 60 degrees. a little warmer as you head toward the bay, 70 for burlingame you head south. little warmer yet. redwood city, 79 going into the 80's in places such as san jose 81 degrees on the east bay. so the warmest spots are in the 80's that the 86 for livermore, that little cooler in hayward in the 72 degree range. as you see the temperatures go are not seeing any 90's at this point. i wouldn't be shocked to see

one, but the forecast for santa rosa is 87 degrees. 7 day forecast. temperatures at or below normal. all 7 days and one, the bay shoreline 60's 70's for the next couple of days. and in fact, along and that the ocean itself in the 60's that this is a departure from normal. so the blue on this map shows cooler than normal temperatures. do you want to head toward the san joaquin valley? yeah, you've got the pinks there. but for us, we're going to stick with the below normal temperatures, not just the next 7 days, but really the next 6 to 10 days. so that's the forecast bundle up. going to toward the ocean because it % will be a bit breezy and a little bit chilly. theresa sounds good. thanks. kept. >> with covid cases rising in the past few months, some bay area counties are recommending that they community take precaution as the cdc warns of potential vaccine shortages. earlier today i spoke with doctor are numb. mukherjee about the rising levels and the potential shortage. tell

us a little bit about what you guys are saying out there. we know the wastewater is showing that we have had a summer surge. so how can we best take care of to contra costa county recently said the public health said, you know, wear a mask your inside with a lot of people. so what do you guys say? >> so you're right what you're reporting is consistent with what's in the literature, which is that we are seeing a summer this is the the highest surge we've seen in the summer months since the beginning of the pandemic. it's not as great as the winter peaks that we've seen. so that's good news secondly, although rates are high and these are largely based on the wastewater data analysis, the rates severe pulmonary disease related to covid hospitalizations and death actually are very low. so although we're seeing greater infection rates, the severity of the infections seem to not be translating into greater disease thankfully and professor it what how should be best?

>> you know, equip ourselves. you know, we're d dealing with kids and loved ones and parents and grandparents. you dnow, getting sick. so what do we do about that? so i think we practice those basic principles that we learned in grade school and that we've reinforced during the pandemic month. so first and foremost, good hygiene. >> washing our hands, all those things that we know but sometimes tend to put on the wayside. secondly, i think it's important to be a tune to our own health. not just for our own ability to, you know, get sick and whatnot, we might infect along the way. so as you said, contra costa county has putting guidance for a mask, not a mandate, but just guidance to say when we're in crowded indoor spaces are areas where there's a lot of intermingling with other people that we should exercise precaution. and that's just basically wearing a mask, especially if you're feeling ill or sick. again, i want to reiterate that the severity of the disease in any at more adverse consequences are not very high at this point. so i don't think people need to be cause for alarm. but i think we need to basically exact the principles that we learned early on in the pandemic. and

we also learned that during the pandemic, you know, to to wear a mask. >> would be, you know, one of those surgical masks are the know, and then that there's no shame that we're just kind of trying to take care of ourselves, right? absolutely correct. and i think those of us that have people who are elderly and our family, myself included. >> those of us that have folks in our family that are in a peer circle that are immunocompromised. i think it's just a matter of respect for them just to make sure that we're doing what we can to keep you healthy. so i don't think there's any shame. and i think the last 3 years taught us that really wearing a mask is not just protecting ourselves, but also sort of affection for fellow human being. does talk about vaccines in the i know that i went online and, you know, there really isn't much out there right now. so we're all waiting kind of focused on the flu. >> vaccine as well as the latest covid vaccines. so what should we know about that coming down the pike? so the earlier vaccines that we have were created for variants that are no longer highly in circulation right?

>> and so what we're waiting for right now, there's a family of variants called the flirt, variants up 3, 1, 1, to sort of the most common one. again, it's more highly contagious, which is probably what's responsible for the summer surge. but again, i want to reiterate that severe disease and death are still at all-time lows. so this new vaccine that's scheduled to come out in september, october of this year really is tailored towards those variants. so going out, rushing in a vaccine right now. first of all, it takes about, you know, one to 3 months to kick in. and second of all is tailored for a variant that's no longer out i would say, you know, do everything that we've talked about hygiene wearing a mask and those areas that are more sensitive. but at the same time, you know, making sure that we get our vaccines as soon as they're available in september, october, because those are the things that will protect us for the next summer surge. that will happen next summer. so a lot parents have been gardens have. >> kids going back to college? you know, they're going into these mass areas. so what would you say to, you know, kids going back into school?

well, luckily, most college stage students, mind included not my own kids, but my students. >> you know, they're usually more so than not healthy and are able to, you know, not deal with severe consequences. that being said, i think the thing we need to be more attuned to is, you know, 5.10, years ago if we had a sore throat, a rhinos, you know what, you just go to class, you just go do what you're doing now. i think it's important to call, you know, t ke pause. you do not take yourself out of, you know, circulation or isolation or anything like that. but take pause. take a look at your symptoms. make sure that you do the things that we talked about. test yourself. if you do test positive, you know, the guidelines of change a little bit. it used to be that you would isolate for 5 days and go back out. now guidance is for 24 hours. you monitor your symptoms if you're fever-free for 24 hours. 24 hours. if you're fever-free. >> and your symptoms are improving. you can go back to your normal duties. again. the guidance is that you wear a mask not just to protect other folks, because even though if
