the clothes on her back. thankfully, her dog and boyfriend made it out to. >>but she's been struggling ever since the resources given to her are now running out. and she says she could be living on the streets within the next day. a fire erupted in a newark home on the morning of august. 4th. >>stephanie and roddy says she woke up to flames in her bedroom. she's legally blind. so her boyfriend in caregiver pulled her out the to and her dog survived. but the fire destroyed their home was a total loss. everything is gone. the red cross responded and gave them resources and money for a motel and the community donated to and roddy's gofundme page. people heard about it and saw news story in. >>i reached out to sweet guy. time close donations. stuff so josh, put 2 weeks later and they haven't been able to find an apartment, especially one good for her disability and

11:40 pm
>>and, you know, you get those winds, especially in the afternoon. these fires whip around pretty quickly and the winds fairly strong out there this evening. and that falls in a place where the winds tend to give follow right through the delta and then they really get within as you make your way into county. and so you can see that fire located pretty dangerous spot in the mountains there. but down below those winds pushing in toward, well, what is a very urban area, lot homes of businesses right in this area. and so you get the fire started to burn in this direction. good news. they are control least 95% of that. but got to get little rest of that in control, especially as we are going to see those winds whip and once again. and so you can see in the forecast for some of these winds by tomorrow afternoon, really beginning to rage. you see all the orange and the red beginning to show up as we're going to see some gusty winds developing there. but overnight tonight, check out the humidity. we're going to see an onshore breeze. that breeze, of course, can move the fire along. but the same time we're going to see a whole lot of moisture. so the
11:41 pm
atmosphere should be very saturated by tomorrow morning. hopefully we'll have a completely put out by them. >>and so much, lauren swell, it's day 3 of the democratic national convention. highlights include speeches from former speaker nancy pelosi, former president bill clinton and vice presidential nominee. now governor tim walz, dc correspondent basil john has more from chicago. >>vice presidential nominee tim walz is the keynote speaker as the priority for tonight is the highlight what kamala protect americans, but also to shed some light walls is it's. >>it's honor of my life to accept your nomination for vice president of the united states. >>governor tim walz used wednesday night to introduce himself to the country. i wound up. teaching social studies and coach in football. at mankato west high school, the popular minnesota governor highlighted the values he learned growing up. free body

11:46 pm
you've been talking for a long time about how the democrats need to take the gloves off and not be as nice. is that what you saw last night? >>it sure is. this whole convention grant and indeed, this whole last month or so, the democrats have suddenly taken the gloves off for the better part of the past decade. they've been really running running scared of of trump. and that seems to have changed radically ever since biden stepped out and president vice president harris launched very fast. start. they've been ridiculing trump, didn't really taking it to you know, you hear people say recently that saw trump's office game, he's not doing as well. really trump saying and doing the same things that he's always done. the difference is the democrats are dealing with him differently. they're dealing with their own campaigns differently. what we see at this convention is an example of that. this is a lot of celebration i don't think is for as long as i can remember, i've seen this positive an attitude, this much optimism, this much sense of forward movement and celebratory in of
11:47 pm
rhetoric of the convention as we're seeing right now. this is a very new democratic party. >>you talk about the gloves coming out of the former first lady, michelle obama last night at one point saying, you know, hope is back. we can feel the hope again. it almost insinuates that hope was getting lost under biden and him being the the candidate. is that how you took that as well? >>well, no, well, frankly, yes, i did. and i think that was the case. it's remarkable. you know, that when biden beat trump in 2000, he save democracy. you know, another trump term would have been a major problem for democracy. and president biden in many ways been a very good president in policy terms in foreign policy and domestic policy. he's got an awful lot done. but what he has not succeeded in doing is kind of re moralizing the party making. people feel great about the democrats again, really taking it to trump in a way that made democrats feel like we were on top. that
11:48 pm
seems to be something that vice president harris is good at. and that's what's made all the difference is not policy. it's a matter of approach. it's a matter of approach to campaigning and attitude and under president biden, what we've had is good policymaking, but not so much of that kind of optimism. not so much of that kind taking it to the opponent, gloves off that we're now getting. and i think that's the term that really, really marks this convention in this campaign. we haven't heard much policy from harris. she is a brand new candidate. she hasn't done. a one-on-one interview are held a press conference. you figure tomorrow night's show layout her agenda and her plan to the american people. but you talk about movement candidates who reagan. >>obama in a way trump in 16. do you think that harris is becoming that right now? >>that's a great question. great. and i think the answer is yes, she really is. and movement candidates potentially transformational leaders don't dwell on
11:49 pm
particular aspects of policy. they give me their philosophies. you know what kind of policies generally speaking, they're going to pursue. but they don't just dwell on this or that aspect of policy. this is something that president biden has done a lot but if you want to really shake things up, you have to offer a vision that goes beyond specifics on prescription drug prices are infrastructure spending. you can meant that. the key to a strong politician is they wrapped that in a broader vision of what they want for the country. and that's what vice president harris now seems to be doing. >>how much should she focus on wrongdoings tomorrow? because it seemed like at the rnc, trump did not really speak about biden as much as people were expecting him to. are you expecting to hear harris talk a lot about trump? >>i think talk about him. at least a little bit. the key is that you talk about him in a way that kind of doesn't take too seriously. frankly, that ridicules him that doesn't really treat him as the main
11:50 pm
act. one problem the democrats have had in recent years as they treat trump is the main act to keep spine. it's a shining the spotlight on trump and acting as if if people see enough of this guide. we'll see just how bad it but the fact is, is that if you're constantly seeding the narrative to the other side, even if the other guy is in in some ways really kind of a bad guy, you're still letting him control the news. trump has been the news for the better part of the last decade with a strong kitty does. is they shine the spotlight on themselves on their own programs on what they can bring the country. so what i would anticipate in vice president harris, a speech tomorrow would be some mention of trump, but then kind of dismissing him and then focusing on her and her own vision. that's a strong candidate does. and that's what i expect vice president harris tomorrow. was listening to the ezra klein podcasts and they're talking about. >>how the polling shows that kamala has surged ahead of trump in. you know, these key
11:51 pm
battleground states, michigan, pennsylvania, wisconsin. but but when you really get down to the numbers, it's more like a tie. and the democrats could be at risk of getting overconfident. do you see that as a viable concern? >>it's possible. but i think democrats now are not going to be prone to take anything for granted. let's face it until just a month ago or so. the republicans looked like they were bound to win this election. so this isn't a good news is fairly new. i don't anticipate the democrats getting complacent, but that's always a danger. and if they do, they could still, of course, lose this election. right now, vice president harris has the momentum should give more momentum, at least a little bit more from this from this convention. but they have to stay on the attack. they have to keep doing what they've done in the last month. if they just go back to talking about this or that policy concern, they they could still lose this thing. they have to stay on the attack. they have to keep
11:52 pm
offering this new mission portraying themselves as this kind of knew generational movement. you know, a real a real political movement, not just a party in search of votes, just as you pointed out earlier, grant. and if they do that, i think they can win in november. and i think they can win big enough. they actually win not just by squeaking squeaking one out on the republicans, abortion bans. but if it's clear that their mission was more appealing and vice president harris and governor walz win by say 4, 5, 6 percentage points and it's not close in the electoral college. they could do more than just putting trump tibet. they could actually deal a blow to trumpism itself to this whole threat to democracy that this country has been under ever since trump won in 2016. that would really be the sign of a new day in american politics. and that now seems to be within reach.

let's get a check on your weather here. there's a bit of rain coming into the forecast to break it all down. we have kron 4. she'd rolla. just lawrence karnow here. low clouds and fog return of the coastline. the temperatures. >>get knocked down just a bit too. we're going to see at least a chance of rain for the bay area does well, but that's pretty unusual, especially for this time of year. but here comes we've got clouds rolling in right now, not rain clouds,
1:22 am
most touches fog, maybe just deep enough muncy a little drizzle along the coastline as we head toward tomorrow. so that being said out there right now, the clouds stretching across the bay, temperatures taking some places, much 11 degrees cooler in napa, 7 degrees cooler hayward, 9 degrees cooler in half moon bay and all around those temperatures dropping off to a nice outside. 67 degrees right of the average in san francisco. 74 in oakland, 83 in san jose. 86 and live more 87 degrees in concord and 86 in santa rosa. but i think tonight you're going to see plenty of clouds out there and a deep marine layer stretching well onshore clouds early tomorrow morning, partly cloudy by the afternoon. and then those clouds is really thicken up tomorrow night into friday. and that's when we have that chance of rain. very unusual dropping in. usually we're not talking about a cold front coming off the gulf of alaska. this time of year. usually when we get rain in the bay area in august, it's usually because of some tropical system may be a hurricane or tropical storm kind of falling apart. some of that moisture gets wrapped up around. high pressure comes back in the bay area's the monsoon. but this
1:23 am
is a whole different type of storm. this coming with that colder air of the gulf of alaska. not real big storm, but we can get a little wet out of that. would that be something as the system comes through? so already seeing some rain making its way up toward washington and oregon, but it will be dropping southward as we head through the night tonight and tomorrow. kind of camping off the coastline. the winds will be ramping up. you feel the temperatures. noticeably cooler as we head into the afternoon on friday. that may be the best chance gets rainier and again, doesn't look like a whole kind of dropping through into saturday morning as well. and then things change. but look, what's important here is we're going to see some significant amounts of rain possibly in northern california. in fact, we could be talking about 3 quarters inch of rain there. if they get that, that's good news to help put out the fire. the downside is because the burned scar now there the potential for some flash flooding there and some debris flow. so watching that very closely here in the bay area, we're going to see a difference, a narrow here. we're going to see a lighter rain. fact, just a few hundreds likely here in the bay area may turn out the heavy drizzle south of the golden gate bridge. temperatures tomorrow, 60's along the coastline with some of that patchy fog. there
