8:17 am
take home. mean, this is a huge adoption event that you have coming up. you berkeley ca means been around for about 130 years. but 15 years ago, we decided what if we brought everyone together to try to really make a difference in the overcrowding, shalt overcrowded shelters in the bay area in this event has just grown and grown to a family event. >> over 20 rescue groups and shelters, there are food trucks. there's live music. there's face painting for the kids. it's really time to come out and adopt a new family member. yeah. and tell us about how you're feeling about this big under taking this year. but happening and where is it happening right? berkeley humane is a really close to the bridge. it's on the corner of 9th and carlton street in berkeley. and we closed down several blocks. so it is a big street fair and block party. it's also a fundraiser. if anyone would like to add donate but they can go to berkeley, humane dot org and look at all the animal photos into fantastic and what
8:18 am
can people expect once they get to this adoption event? is there anything they should prepare for? >> that sort of thing admission is free. i imagine absolutely would like as many people to come as possible. usually there's about 4,000 usually there's about 4,000 people come through last year. 4 minutes. the benefit of adopting an event like this is we have our volunteers and staff available to provide adoption counseling. there are great incentives. there's pet food gives giveaways. if you don't from berkeley humane, their side to $150 credit for a veterinarian. there's 30 days of pet insurance. so there's a lot of bonuses to coming in and adopting at this ends. what should people keep in mind when it comes to making sure that they are prepared to adopt and bring in a new addition to the family? well, i think it really just starts with your willingness to open your home to a new loving pat. we help set people up for we will match you with an animal that make sense. if you have any other pets and your home or if you have an active lifestyle, we can
8:19 am
really direct you to a pet that we think will do really great in your ok, dot. and also while you're here, you've been berkeley humane for quite some time over a decade, right? in your experience, how what's what are trends looking like when it comes to animals ending up in shelters, especially post covid post you seeing more animals now than ever. what's the situation like? we are the need is is really great and not just here in the bay area, but all over at this event, you're going to see dogs from hawaii shelters. we have pets that came from that park fire in chico. we have cats that just arrived from orange county. so when you come adopt from this event, you're really helping out shelters all over the state and beyond got it into markets really wanting to be the center of attention this morning. want to tell us a little bit about his personality as well. well, he's just a great peer, puppy. he really won the lottery this morning. we told him we were coming here and that a member of the crew would adopt him.

fostering perhaps. just go to the berkeley brean website, berkeley, humane dot org. yeah. and all the information is there. we provide all the supplies to foster would need from candles to. >> toys, to food and everything else. so we really love our foster son, you know, sometimes fostering. it's just a slower way to adopting. have you ever seen any foster fails? favorite people our our folks that foster and and fall in love. but we also have fosters that have been with us for 10, 15, 20 years and have helped us transition animals from the shelter into homes really beautifully. so there are important part of our process. wonderful. and as we start to wrap things up here would love again just to get that information out there when and where is this big adoption event happening and how can people get more information? right? the event is that berkeley humane, it's called bark and meow around the block. >> so berkeley, humane dot org. it's in west berkeley and it starts at 10:00am. new this year. we also have a free vaccine clinic for people who
