coast. and there it is. it'll get here later today and sweep through with some rain. very cool highs though only in the low to mid 50s. all right. so here. all quiet or what. yeah it's pretty quiet out there as a matter of fact we don't have a lot going on. >> and if it does start raining you know, the traffic will take a turn for the worse. but right now we look pretty good. if you are driving at the bay bridge, it looks pretty good getting into san francisco. no problems here on interstate 880 in oakland and we're looking good on the san mateo bridge and also on the dumbarton bridge. so things are doing well. and that includes the silicon valley commute, which is nice 401 let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. thank you. sal a cyclist is recovering after being involved in a collision with a waymo driverless taxi. now it happened at 17th and mississippi. the intersection there at potrero hill yesterday afternoon the mountain view based company said one of its driverless vehicles was stopped at a four way crossing when a large truck drove across the intersection as the waymo car

followed through the intersection. a non visible cyclist behind the truck appeared in its path and was hit by the driverless car. san francisco police tell us the cyclist suffered non-life threatening injuries in that collision. >> our time now 401 crews, a self-driving company, is trying to find a way to wrap up an investigation of a crash in san francisco, where one of its cars hit a pedestrian. the company offered to pay a bigger fine to the california public utilities commission. now, during yesterday's hearing, executives for cruz also said they regret the effort to cover up that crash to regulators. back in october, general motors, which owns cruz, has replaced many of the company's leaders and has indefinitely put testing of the autonomous cars on pause. >> the preliminary report from the national transportation safety board has been released regarding the failed door on an alaska airlines jet. now it shows all four bolts that are supposed to hold the door plug in place. were missing. it's not

clear why that was not caught in the manufacturing and inspection process. >> the fact that they have these different reporting structures and sign off requirements, etc. and that they just weren't done it, you know, is doubly shocking. it's not that they didn't know what they should do. they knew exactly what they should do, and they just didn't do it. >> nearly all max nine jets operated by united and alaska airlines have been inspected and returned to the flight lines. the investigation continues, so we do not know yet if the subcontractor that built the door plug or boeing, which installed it, is to blame. boeing says it continues to cooperate with the investigation . >> time now 403 pga investigating a fire in san francisco inside of an underground utility vault. it happened at third and mission streets and sky fox flew over the area where black smoke poured out of a maintenance hole . this area was blocked off for hours as repair crews fixed the problem. we arrived on scene

shortly after to assess the situation and make the area safe. >> we've been working very closely with san francisco fire and police departments at this time. there is no power outage associated with this. >> now. just last year in pacific heights, there was a similar underground vault fire. well, the frustration just keeps growing for the oakland a's super fans because the team's future is so uncertain. on a podcast, the mayor of las vegas said move the a's to her city doesn't make sense. >> ktvu crystal bailey has more from fans fighting to keep the a's in oakland. >> members of the oakland 68 and oakland sports fan group say they're glad las vegas mayor carolyn goodman supports fans in the town. >> throughout the past few years, we've heard a lot of reports of mayor goodman, you know, openly courting the a's, trying to get them to come to the city. um, so to hear her say something like that was, uh, pretty surprising. >> she was interviewed on the

front office sports today podcast, where she shocked mlb fans with her comments about the team's possible move to sin city. >> i personally think they've got to figure out a way to stay in oakland and make their dream come true, mayor goodman commented on the passion of oakland sports fans who still come to vegas for raiders games. >> she said john fisher, the a's owner, needs to listen to the people in oakland. >> i love the people from oakland. i think they deserve to have their team. >> goodman made those remarks after mentioning that the a's had turned down a larger stadium location in downtown las vegas before deciding on the old tropicana hotel. >> people who actually live in las vegas don't really go to the strip. if they want to come here. this isn't an ideal location for actual people who live in the city. this is ideal location for tourists. >> during the interview, mayor goodman expressed concern about the team moving to the strip to come here and take down an old hotel and put it right at the heart of the strip and more congestion. >> we have enough congestion right now, so this does not make

sense as for a's fans, they say the fight isn't over. >> some people are more unhappy about it than we realize. >> it very well could be oakland and it is possible after even though they're talking about that small little site, it's not done till it's done. mayor goodman clarified hours after the podcast was released that she is very excited about the prospect of major league baseball in vegas, and she would welcome the a's to her city. >> she also said, in a perfect world, the a's would have a ballpark on the water in oakland. >> vegas deserves a ball team, but an expansion team, and mayor shang tao says she agrees with mayor goodman 100. >> she says it's best that the a's stay in oakland. she says their door is also open to john fisher and anyone else who might like to purchase the team to keep them here in oakland. crystal bailey, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right, crystal, thank you. time now 406 later today. officials at the port of oakland will bring together stakeholders

to talk about reducing emissions. what's called the first ever zero emission symposium will be held, bringing together the ports vendors as well as leaders in the maritime and aviation industry to focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and attracting more green businesses to oakland. power outages in the bay area are now down to 40,000 pg and e customers. >> this morning. the outage map shows problem areas include sonoma, napa and marin counties and along the peninsula, but blue electrical plugs on the map represent community resource centers. pg and e have opened up, including in guerneville, cloverdale and at crosswalk community church in napa. almost 400,000 local pg and e customers lost power at the peak of outage saturday night. pg and e calls it the third biggest single day event in company history. 400 power poles and 239 transformer cars were damaged. lights went

out at san jose's willow glen neighborhood sunday afternoon and still they have not returned at some homes and businesses. >> it's been a rather tedious when it comes to trying to manage heat, trying to manage hot water and things of that sorts. >> pg regional vice president says she understands people's frustrations about how long it is taking for power to be restored. cal state east bay s main campus in hayward will remain closed today for a third straight day because of lingering power and other storm related issues. classes will be conducted online. both oakland and concord locations are not affected. they will operate as usual. >> our time now for oh eight. there's yet another southern california victim of the very severe weather. lifeguards in san diego county recovered the body of a man reported to be floating face down in the tijuana river. us customs officials say the man may have been part of a group of migrants crossing the border, but that's not confirmed as yet. two other people were pulled from the san

see it churning there. it's taking the turn into arizona. but finally, a little bit of a break. they'll still get some rain, but not nothing compared to what they had after the last three days, 30s and 40s. on the temps, much cooler. some 50s, but a lot more 30s, 25 truckee 18, south lake tahoe mammoths down to four. but if you're going to the mountains, you might want to go early or wait it out. winter weather advisory is out. 4 to 8in of snow forecast starts already and goes through 4 a.m. tomorrow, so more snow and then a weak little system on friday. but that shouldn't amount to too much in the mountains. then you can go up there and board and ski on some and shred on the nice new snow. that's our system sweeping down. looks like it'll be all right here. some locations showing upwards of two thirds of an inch to an inch. santa cruz mountains. so we'll go with that for now. and after that, though, we start to get a break here. i mean, it does look like a break at least. i mean, we'll get cloud cover, but there's no big systems on the way. but for the mountains, yes, they'll get more snow, but temperatures today are going to be quite cool for us.

rendon will show us everything that's happening before the super bowl on sunday. >> all right. on friday we have a fox two sports special quest for six. that's at 930 in the morning. sunday at 9 a.m. we have the quest for six live in las vegas. and then at noon, right before the game, quest for six countdown to kick off. >> got it. and fox is teaming up with disney and warner brothers discovery to create a new joint sports streaming platform. now, this service will streamline sports content airing on the company's networks, including espn, abc, fox, tnt, and tbs. the ceo of fox, which owns us ktvu, says the venture will put an array of amazing sports content all in one place. now this standalone app for the new service hasn't been named as yet . subscribers to espn plus, hulu and max will also have access to this special service. >> all right, very exciting. joe

is there. joe? joe is there. christina rendon on her way. steve, we've heard from a lot of viewers they're going to be heading out there even if they don't have tickets, they want to just experience it. but we saw joe holding an umbrella. what's the weather going to be like this next couple of days? >> i don't know, i'll look okay. i have to focus on her, but i'll take a look as soon as i can. i know that system in southern california is pushing into southern nevada and also arizona, but for we have rain on the way here later today. next system, a quarter of an inch to an inch. santa cruz mountains, i think will be the leader of the pack here on this week's. well, it's a fast moving system. 30 for lows, 50s only for highs. you can see our systems on the north coast. it will give us increasing clouds in the morning and taking the turn there finally some change there. you can see the low spinning. but that has produced some rain in las vegas. also scottsdale for the tpc, some rain activity. so i think most of this will push out though by the time we get to the weekend 30s 40s on the temps, some 50s, but a noticeably colder to the north. 25 truckee 18. south lake tahoe

four. in mammoth winter weather advisories also kicked in that started at 4 a.m, and then that'll go through 4 a.m. tomorrow. 4 to 8in of new snow on top of the snow they already had. so that's good. nothing yet. if you're heading up there, now's the time to go. i think you can get up there and be all right, but that system will sweep through. it's a cold system, too. it's a cold front, so it's sweeping in. so turning cloudy in the morning and then rain arrives. this afternoon. highs will only be in the low 50s for some, especially to the north. and i do think santa cruz mountains will take the bulk of this. you can see santa cruz ben lohman both there around an inch or a little bit above a half inch for some should cover it. after this system though, wednesday into thursday i think we get a break for about 5 or 6 days. there are some changes on the way, but i think for over the weekend will be pretty good. heading to the mountains again, about 4 to 8in of snow should probably cover the spread on that, so look for cold temps in the morning, increasing clouds and then rain arrives later this afternoon. but only low to mid 50s on the highs. >> all right steve got it. time

the way to approach this. if you really want to get a solution on the southern border now, yesterday, the effort led by republicans to impeach the secretary of homeland security failed in the house a few republicans voted with every democrat to oppose impeaching alejandro mayorkas. >> the fight to get some psychedelics legalized in california continues. a new bill would allow adults 21 and older to use psychedelic mushrooms for therapeutic support, the bill's authors say. the goal is to tackle the state's mental health and addiction crisis. it comes after governor newsom vetoed a similar bill last year, but this time the bill would not allow for personal possession and use our time now. >> 424 republican presidential candidate nikki haley now raising money here in the bay area, according to the palo alto daily post, venture capitalist tim draper hosted a fundraiser here for the former governor of south carolina last night in

atherton. now sky fox flew over this. you could see the nikki sign in lights in that yard. nikki haley is also set to appear tonight at a rally in los angeles. >> nikki haley lost the republican primary in nevada, despite being the only major candidate on the state ballot. now, this year, nevada has dueling gop nominating contests, the primary yesterday and a caucus tomorrow. haley was on the primary ballot. donald trump is taking part in the caucus in 2021. nevada passed a law replacing the caucus with a primary. however the nevada republican party decided to hold a caucus anyway, and will give all of its delegates to the caucus winner. now, there was an option on the primary ballot, giving people a chance to vote for none of these candidates, and that option was the winner. as you can see, according to the latest results, 63% of voters in nevada's primary selected none of these candidates, 31% voted for nikki haley. donald trump is expected to win the nevada

caucus, which would give him all 26 of the state's delegates. president biden won the democratic primary election in nevada. he faced very little opposition from about a dozen candidates. >> our time is now 425, former president donald trump now says he will appeal to the us supreme court, a decision made by a federal appeals court that he is not immune from prosecution in the election. interference case. now, unless the supreme court intervenes, the appeals court ruling means donald trump can face trial on charges he allegedly plotted to overturn the 2020 election results you saw is a court speaking not just to former president trump, but to the public and to future generations to say that we have a criminal justice system. >> it has to be allowed to work and function. >> now in its ruling, the appeals court wrote, quote, former president trump's alleged efforts to remain in power despite losing the 2020 election

north. 30s and 40s on the temps here. everything is cleared out. unless you're far enough south. and then there's a little bit of activity, but it won't take long. you can see. look at this. already beginning to move in to the north. and that's our system. it's well to the north, but it will sweep through increasing clouds in the morning. should start late morning or, you know, unless you're north and it'll start a little earlier. but rain moves in and temperatures are quite cool today with low to mid 50s at best. all right. south here for 30 in the morning to tell us what that things are doing okay steve if you are driving let's go. >> right to the golden gate bridge and i'll show you that traffic looks good. they're doing some lane change over here . could cause some delays, but for the most part it is a nice looking drive and getting through. there have been no major problems here. it looks like i went to a picture. a nice picture of the skyline there. but first let's go to the picture of the bay bridge. you can see that traffic is absolutely light for 31. let's get back to the headlines okay sal thank you. >> well pg and e says it's

making progress in restoring full service to the entire bay area right now. 39,000 pg and e customers don't have power. but that's down from sunday's high of almost 400,000. many of those still in the dark live and work in the north bay. now this is pg and e's outage map. it shows blue plugs. that means pg and e has opened community resource centers and cloverdale, guerneville and napa. >> well, your pg e bills could be going up again. the state public utilities commission will consider the increase next month that would raise monthly bills by another 4 to $6 a month. >> that's on top of the $35 a month that we got january 1st. and it does not include the $14 a month that pg and e also submitted at the end of last year. and wants to include in

monthly bills. >> now, consumer groups say the higher rates offset the money pg and e is spending to make its electrical network safe and secure from storms, wildfires and other electric grid hazards. the consumer groups are warning pg and customers to expect more increased rs 12 pending rate hike. >> requests from pg and e that have not been acted on. >> now, the utility reform group wants to cap rate increases to the rate of inflation or social security. that would generally be between 2 to 4. >> our time is now. 433 the san joaquin county sheriff is cracking down on sideshows, and deputies seized 88 cars from just one event last weekend. >> i wouldn't waste your time coming out here or calling about your car because it's going to sit until a judge or the da tells us to let it go. now as part of a new zero tolerance policy, sheriff's deputies are confiscating the cars as

evidence of criminal activity, and the sheriff plans to seek court orders to destroy vehicles that officials deem are dangerous. >> we can prove that this car is sold purpose and is being used for sideshows and to create this type of chaos in our community. >> well then that would be a car, i believe a judge and a jury would find that they no longer have the right to own the sheriff says sheriff's deputies have already found guns and illegal drugs in some of those cars, and says it'll take time to search and document all of the evidence. >> now the state is sending 120 chp officers to oakland to help deal with the city's increasing crime. other cities across the state report violent crime and property crime held steady or actually decreased. last year, but oakland reported violent crime was up 21% from the year before. the chp says its officers will focus on auto theft, cargo theft, retail crime and helping with traffic enforcement.

>> our goal with this operation is to restore a sense of safety, not only for the residents, but the business owners and the visitors of the east bay area. >> now, it's not clear when the officers will start working in oakland. mayor shengtao is welcoming the deployment of chp officers, but some community leaders say she should not be taking the credit. now, the naacp says mayor tao was not present at its meeting with the governor last month when community leaders asked for the chp officers, the civil rights group says, quote, the mayor is mislead the public and attempting to take credit for the increased chp coming to oakland. she nor her staff were a part of the meeting with the governor, and she should be ashamed for trying to take credit for the work of the naacp oakland branch in san jose. some people are saying no to the possibility of a new costco in their neighborhood, and ktvu lamonica peters tells us the group says the new store would create major traffic jams and

hundreds of patients in the past week, the department of public health reports it served 166 patients in the last week and 474 in the month of january. the team offers low barrier health care, substance use treatment and other services for people who are experiencing homelessness in the city. today is the second day of a two day strike by optometrists at ucsf. they are joining their colleagues across the uc system. the striking optometrists say the university of california has failed for more than a year now to agree on the terms of employment for 80 optometrists who joined the union in 2022.

back in. um, but actually while sal was talking about the traffic and what we were looking at, we saw one of those cars pull out and it looks like there's one pulling out right now. not sure if you can see that. it's kind of at the tail end of the parking lot, and it looks like it's actually going to go out of the other exit there. but i do want to get back to what happened in this crash. it happened at 17th street and mississippi. according to a statement from waymo, the intersection is a four way stop, they said. a large truck passed through that intersection while this happened. they say a cycling was also passing through at the same time as that large truck, but that the cyclist was actually hidden by that truck. it was moving in the direction of the waymo car. uh, then the waymo car began to pass through the intersection. the cyclist crossed into the path of the car. car did not register or did not see that cyclist pass through. they say at that point,

it despite a hard brake, it was just too late. the waymo car was not able to avoid that cyclist and they did crash into that cyclist. now, in a statement, they went on to say that, quote, waymo called the police to the scene. the cyclist left on their own. they say two are knowledge reporting only minor scratches. we are making contact with relevant authorities surrounding this event. now we have reached out to waymo to see if they plan on releasing any dash cam video of that crash captured from that waymo car. we have not heard back yet. again, they tell us that that cyclist who was involved was able to leave the scene of that crash in potrero hill under their own power. so that, of course, some good news here this morning. and we will of course, be sure to update you if we hear anything back from waymo as soon as we hear it. reporting live in san francisco. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right, bailey, thank you. and the other self-driving company cruise is trying to find a way to wrap up an

investigation of a crash in san francisco, where one of its cars hit a pedestrian. now, the company offered to pay a bigger fine to the california public utilities commission. during yesterday's hearing, executives for cruz also said that they regret the effort to cover up that crash to regulators. back in october, general motors, which owns cruz, has replaced many of the company's leaders and has indefinitely put testing of the autonomous cars on pause. >> the preliminary report from the national transportation safety board has been released regarding that failed door on an alaska airlines jet. it shows all four bolts that are supposed to hold the door plug in place were missing. it's not clear why that was not caught in the manufacturing and inspection process. >> the fact that they have these different reporting structures and sign off requirements, etc. and that they just weren't done in is doubly shocking. it's not that they didn't know what they should do, they knew exactly what they should do and they

just didn't do it. >> nearly all max nine jets operated by united and alaska airlines have been inspected and returned to the flight lines. the investigation continues, though, so we don't know yet if the sub contractor who built the door plug or boeing, which installed it, is to blame. boeing says it does continue to cooperate with investigators as our time's now. >> 505 pga now investigating a fire in san francisco inside of an underground utility vault. it happened at third and mission streets, and sky fox was flying over the area where black smoke poured out of a maintenance hole that area was blocked off for hours as repair teams fixed the problem. we arrived on scene shortly after to assess the situation and make the area safe. >> we've been working very closely with san francisco fire and police departments at this time. there is no power outage associated with this and just last year in pacific heights, there was a similar underground vault fire.

a major league baseball team in las vegas. but she thinks it should be an expansion team. oakland mayor shang tao has said in the past her door is open to fisher if he wants to talk again about building a new stadium for the a's, it is 506 later today, officials at the port of oakland will bring together stakeholders to talk aboutrillioneducing emissions. what's called the first ever zero emission symposium will be held, bringing together the ports, vendors as well as leaders in the maritime and aviation industry, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and attracting more green businesses to oakland. >> power outages in the bay area are now down to about 40,000 and customers this morning. the outage map shows problem areas include sonoma, napa and marin counties and along the peninsula. the blue electrical plugs on the map represent community resources centers. pga are open to help people without

matter in the silicon valley. we look at 101. it looks good all the way up into the upper peninsula. 531 let's get back to the headlines. >> okay, sal. thank you. what we're learning more now about governor newsom's plan to send 120 highway patrol officers to oakland to fight rising crime. ktvu is ali rasmus is here now to tell us how community groups, oakland residents and the mayor are reacting to all of this. good morning. ali >> good morning dave. the reaction from some of those community groups and residents and the mayor is overall pretty positive. most say they like the idea of having extra police in the city of oakland right now. in a statement from the local chapter of the naacp, they said, quote, the oakland branch of the naacp thanks governor gavin newsom for responding to calls to address public safety in oakland. our residents and businesses are suffering with no relief in sight, end quote. back in august, the governor sent six chp officers and a sergeant to help with crime. now, another 120 are on their way. a 900%

increase. the oakland chapter of the naacp, the unity council, and the oakland chamber of commerce all met with governor newsom last month specifically to ask for this kind of help. the groups say they met privately with the governor without any other elected officials present. even so, oakland mayor shan tao told ktvu she is grateful for the extra police resources from the state. the chp did give us a little more information about what those extra 120 officers will be helping with. >> they're also coming from various specialty units. we have canine air operations, investigative services units, and task forces. in fact, another big part of this, or a key component because there's an auto theft component involved, is the alameda county regional auto theft task force. they're going to play a big role. >> i feel it's really needed a lot of us are very nervous walking around, and whereas before we weren't and people are getting hit over and over again, we've said the only way that

pretty decent over to the caldecott bay bridge, though. is backing up now. those metering lights have been on for a bit. nothing out of the ordinary, but there is a backup here at the toll plaza 601. let's get back to the headlines. >> all right. thank you. sal. this morning an investigation continues in san francisco after a crash involving a cyclist and a waymo self-driving car in the potrero hill neighborhood. ktvu is bailey o'carroll joins us now with more details on the incident. bailey >> good morning, pam. as you mentioned, that crash did happen in the potrero hill neighborhood. it is not far from where we are right now from this waymo lot, where cars kind of have been coming in and out throughout the hour or so that we have been out here this morning. we just saw right before we came on a car, actually pulling in to the lot. it's one of the first cars we've seen pull back into this lot. we've seen a whole lot more pull out of the lot this morning. um and it is still sitting there, a lot of them still up and running today of course. uh, but that crash that happened at 17th

street and mississippi at the intersection was quiet this morning. we were just out there. no sign of that crash this morning. no sign of any sort of police presence. uh, caution tape cones out. really? anything like that? it is a four way stop in that area. according to a statement from waymo, it said a large truck passed through the intersection while this happened. they say a cyclist was also passing through, but was actually hidden by that truck. uh and then because of that, the truck was actually headed in the direction of the car. it was sorry about that. we're having a couple of waymo cars pass through as i'm speaking right now. um, but that truck actually , as i mentioned, hid that cyclist. uh, the truck was headed in the direction of the waymo car. then as the car began to pass through the intersection , when it was the waymo's car turned to go, the cyclist actually crossed into the path of the waymo car at that point, they say it was too late, that

the car could not break fast enough. they did obviously crash into each other. um, they said they did make contact with the police who came to the scene, and that the cyclist was thankfully able to leave under their own power. uh, that cyclist only reported minor scratches. now we have reached out to waymo to see if they are planning to release any sort of dash camera, video or anything that was captured from inside their car. they haven't got back to us yet this morning, but they do say that they are working with necessary agencies to kind of cooperate in this investigation. reporting live in san francisco. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. bailey, thank you. time now 604. and yet another self-driving car company. cruise is trying to find a way to wrap up an investigation of a crash in san francisco, where one of its cars hit a pedestrian. the company offered to pay a bigger fine to the california public utilities commission during

yesterday's hearing, executives for cruise also said they regret the effort to cover up that crash to regulators. back in october. the general motors, which owns cruise, has replaced many of the company's leaders and has indefinitely put testing of the autonomous cars on pause as the preliminary report from the national transportation safety board has been released. >> regarding the failed door on an alaska airlines jet. now it shows all four bolts that are supposed to hold the door plug in place were missing. it's not clear why that was not caught in the manufacturing and inspection process. >> the fact that they have these different reporting structures and sign off requirements, etc, and that they just weren't done, you know, is doubly shocking. it's not that they didn't know what they should do. they knew exactly what they should do, and they just didn't do it. >> nearly all max nine jets operated by united and alaska airlines have been inspected and returned to the flight lines.

the investigation includes the subcontractor that built the door plug and boeing, which installed it. boeing says it is continuing to cooperate with investigators. >> our time is now 605. since the pandemic started, the west contra costa unified school district has struggled to fill vacant positions for school psychologists. now the school district says it used to have an active intern program for school psychology students. but since 2021, a rising number of school employees are leaving because of burnout, and there are fewer new psychologists coming in. and at the same time, many of the longer time professionals are retiring, and that's forcing the staff to do most of their paper work. after the working hours. that's leading to more burnout, and that just perpetuates the cycle. >> police in gilroy are looking for three people who scrawled hate messages on the walls of christopher high school. now, authorities say the intruders broke into the campus monday night and scrawled the graffiti

up with us here on mornings on two i'm pam cook and good morning i'm dave clark. >> welcome to wednesday. it's february seventh. little cool outside. yes and steve said it would be it's cold. >> it's a cold system here that's coming in. maybe even some dusting on some of the higher peaks is certainly possible here. but snow level will be down about 4000ft. but for us it will be a cold rain. there's been some light rain moving through to the south and now moving into the north, 40 now in the temps. we had 30s for a bit, but now the cloud cover is coming in. you can see this fast moving little systems along the peninsula. san mateo coast, san jose down to morgan hill. not a lot, but there is a little bit, especially along the coast. that's the main system and it's driving in from the north and that's a that's a cold rain, cold rain and snow. and we are looking for lightrillionain south. increasing clouds, cold cloudy cold rain, light rain already. but the main system arrives late morning early afternoon and highs will be well well below average. all right. here's sal to tell us what a bridge, a freeway. where are we going? >> uh, i was thinking of you, steve. uh, there was a report

of, uh, some guy driving like an idiot. right? uh, chp got wind of it, and now i just heard they pulled the guy over, so sometimes it does happen. where the guy who's driving recklessly gets seen by the police, and then they get pulled over the southbound 680 as you drive towards highway 24. there was an earlier crash on the shoulder from 242 down to walnut creek. there's some slow traffic there. uh, if you are driving on highway four, it's a little slow. 24 is moderate, and at the bay bridge, we have a backup of about ten minutes. 632 let's get back to the headlines. okay sal. >> thank you. well, we're learning more now about governor newsom's plan to send 120 highway patrol officers to oakland to help deal with rising crime. ktvu is ali rasmus has the reaction from community groups, oakland residents and criticism of the mayor. >> the reaction from most of those community groups and residents has been positive. many tell ktvu they like the idea of having extra police in the city of oakland. the local chapter of the naacp said in a

statement, quote, the oakland branch of the naacp thanks governor gavin newsom for responding to calls to address the public safety crisis in oakland. our residents and businesses are suffering with no relief in sight, end quote. back in august, the governor sent six chp officers and a sergeant to help with crime in oakland and now another 120 officers are on their way. a 900% increase. the oakland chapter of the naacp, the unity council and the oakland chamber of commerce all met with governor newsom last month specifically to ask for this kind of help. the groups say they met privately with the governor without any other elected officials present. oakland mayor shengtao told ktvu that she is grateful for the extra police resources from the state, and the chp gave us more details about what those extra officers will be helping with. >> they're also coming from various specialty units. we have canine air operations in investigative services units and task forces. in fact, another big part of this, or a key

component because there's an auto theft component involved, is the alameda county regional auto theft task force. they're going to play a big role. >> i feel it's really needed a lot of us are very nervous walking around, and whereas before we weren't and people are getting hit over and over again, we've said the only way that we're going to get safe is cages and cops. >> and that has just proven not to be true. america incarcerates more people than any other country on the planet. >> that's the perspective from another community group called the anti police terror project. they believe the solution is not more police, but more crime prevention resources and economic opportunities in oakland. now, the chp wouldn't give us a specific timeline for exactly how long these 120 extra officers will be in oakland, but the chp says the program has already, quote, hit the ground running, meaning this deployment of additional officers and resources is already underway in oakland. ali rasmus, ktvu, fox two news okay, ali, thank you. >> time now. 634. the san

joaquin county sheriff is cracking down on sideshows and deputies there seized 88 cars last weekend from one event. i wouldn't waste your time coming out here or calling about your car, because it's going to sit until a judge or the d.a. tells us to let it go. now, as part of a new zero tolerance policy, deputies are confiscating the cars as evidence of criminal activity, and the sheriff will seek court orders to destroy the vehicles that officials deem danger s you can prove that this car is sole purpose and is being used for sideshows and to create this type of chaos in our community. >> well then that would be a car. i believe a judge and a jury would find that they no longer have the right to own. >> now the sheriff says deputies have already found guns and illegal drugs, and some of those cars. he says it will take time to search and document all of the evidence. santa clara county supervisors may consider a lawsuit to force the release of

a report about the county's child welfare agency. >> now, supervisors say they cannot reform the system if they don't know what the problems are . the issues stem from the case of baby phenix, who died from fentanyl. child welfare advocates say the county knew about her father's drug addiction, and she should have been removed from the home where here, because we know that the system sometimes times needs to, um, shift and be responsive to what is happening in baby phoenix's father, david castro, is currently in jail on a child endangerment charge. the baby's mother died four months after phoenix's death, also from a drug overdose. >> our time now. 636 pg and e bills may be going up again next month. the state public utilities commission will consider another rate hike that would raise monthly bills by another 4 to $6 a month.

>> that's on top of the $35 a month that we got january 1st. and it does not include the $49 a month that pg and e also submit. at the end of last year, and wants to include in monthly bills. >> now, consumer groups say the higher rates offset the money pg and e is spending to make its electrical network safe and secure from storms and wildfires and other hazards on the electric grid, the consumer groups warned. pg and e customers expect more rate hikes well pending rate hike requests from pg and e that have not been acted on. now the utility reform group wants to cap any rate hikes to the rate of inflation of social security. that would generally be between 2 to 4. >> california is looking into how artificial intelligence

would not surprise me in the in the least. the air aloft is brisk. brisk brisk. there it is. right there. san mateo. uh, along skyline there, maybe los altos, los altos hills, san jose. i know morgan hills had a little bit into the santa cruz area. santa cruz mountains, not a lot, but there is a little bit there. and now starting to sweep in the main system, though, is still to the north, but the light overrunning is beginning to move into mendocino county, lake county, there's a little band that went over us right there, so it's beginning to make its move here. the sierra snow is going to be more powdery in nature. this is a much, much colder system here 6 to 12in make it down to at least a 4500ft. i would not be surprised. it gets down to 3000ft. this is one heck of a cold system coming in. so again, this is a cold front, but another 5 to 910 with more than that above lake level looks likely right down out of the north. she goes and you will notice it. believe you me by later this afternoon. tonight so cloudy skies here. rain is on the way now. light rain in advance of that. but the main system arrives this afternoon into tonight. heaviest amounts look to be around half moon bay,

yesterday, an effort led by republicans to impeach the secretary of homeland security failed in the house. >> a few republicans even voted with every democrat to oppose the impeachment of alejandro mayorkas. time now. 645 the fight to legalize some psychedelics here in california continues. a new bill would allow adults age 21 and older to use psychedelic mushrooms for a therapeutic support court, the authors of the bill say the goal is to tackle california's mental health and addiction crisis, and it comes after governor newsom vetoed a similar bill last year. this bill would not allow for personal possession and use. well, the census bureau is dropping a proposal to change disability stats. the bureau's news set of questions, which would have asked people with a disability to rate their level of difficulty with certain activities, instead of answering yes or no questions, the agency's director said the

proposal could have shrunk a key estimated rate of disability in the u.s. by about 40. he also said the decision to drop the changes were based on feedback received from the public in today's dollars and cents. >> ford is now revealing that it created a new team two years ago to create low cost electric vehicles. the team is being led by a former tesla executive and is based in irvine. ford says the team has some of the best ev engineers in the world, and their goal is to find a way to make ford electric vehicles more affordable. honda is recalling thousands of vehicles to fix faulty airbag sensors. the recall involves certain honda pilots and accords hrvs and odyssey minivans. with the model years from 2020 through 2022. the recall also involves some acura mdx and rdx cars, recall notifications will be sent out by the middle of next month, and free replacements will be provided. the irs says it could

collect hundreds of billions of dollars in unpaid and overdue taxes every year, thanks to new funding. now, a new report from the treasury department and the irs says new funding will help increase enforcement, especially of millionaires and billionaires that stepped up enforcement could bring in as much as $561 billion in tax revenue in the next ten years from people who have not paid their taxes, treasury secretary janet yellen has told the agency to focus on audits of people who make more than $400,000 a year. the hotel industry continues to struggle across the state. new numbers show. stays declined throughout the state. last year, data from a lodging industry company found hotel purchases in northern california dropped to about $1.5 billion in 2023. that's down about half from the previous year. travel experts say the hotel market in the bay area and statewide could get even worse before it gets better in las vegas, a special surcharge will be in place for rideshares and

i thought you meant. thank you. sal. there you go. uh, we will start in northern arizona. why? because they just got plastered with a lot of snow. greg. diamonds with fox weather. winter returned to northern arizona, 16.5in of snow fell in flagstaff. biggest system of the season, and completely erased their snow deficit up to 53 for the season. even prescott picked up five inches of snow downtown flagstaff five nws and flagstaff 618 and there it is. for those of you who may be heading down to the tpc, they had a crazy day yesterday, but you can see the rain and snow. that's a system that finally took the turn in southern california. it looks like it's starting to exit out. there's some lightrillionain in santa cruz mountains, san jose down to santa clara valley. now starting to pick up along the peninsula. it's all coming down from the northwest. and look at that. even some is beginning to make its move here towards areas to the north. this is just the warm overrunning and advance of a really cold system, which is beginning to make its move, especially up in mendocino county. this is coming right down out of the north. i want to
