5:00 pm
several expected to hit here in the coming days. we do have reporters spread out across the bay area. but first, right to chief meteorologist bill martin tracking the radar bill. >> yeah, we've got some rain out there right on the afternoon commute. kind of slow to get here, especially central bay and south bay. so this morning was dry commute for the most part. but then this afternoon it started to rain and to the tune of a half inch in santa rosa. that's a pretty good rainfall for kind of a not a huge weather system, if you will. kenfield was a half inch that's in orinda or in marin county. orinda was a 10th of an inch. san jose two hundreds. but that san jose number is going to climb a little bit as well as the fremont number as the system sort of works its way through the south bay. here's the current setup. come in close. this is the radar. it's got the satellite in there too. and then those lines, those white, those streaks, you see going through it. those lines are the different radars. and they're just sort of triangulating and giving you a mosaic of what's happening in the area. and so right now we've got rain on the golden gate bridge. we've got rain in san francisco. so pretty, you know, some of these rainfall setups like let's see
5:01 pm
right here on this cell right out by ocean beach, 15 hundredths of an inch an hour. that's not not bad quite frankly. so we're seeing some very kind of moderate to light rain on parts of the bay area. fairfield. what happens here is this system. i'll put a little loop on it. i think i can do that and you'll see it kind of work its way through here. as we went through this morning. there it is, around 10 a.m. there it is around lunchtime time. and then there's the streaks coming through or the showers coming through the heaviest stuff is kind of going through right now it appears. and then behind it will be this kind of looser, more loosely tied together stuff that will bring the opportunity for more showers, but not a lot of accumulation in. i think the south bay has got the best bet for rain. they're getting the heaviest rainfall right now. hollister, gilroy, san cruz, san jose is getting a little break. so what we got we got rain. it's going to rain a little more too as we go into the bay area weekend. we'll have all that coming back a little bit. all right. >> sounds good bill. thank you. let's take a look now at how the commute is handling all this rain. this is a live look out at the san mateo bridge, highway
5:02 pm
92. as you can see, very slow in that eastbound evening commute direction as people head into hayward and other east bay cities. also, let's give you a look. live right now at interstate 80. you're looking toward emeryville and berkeley, the lower east shore. it is a parking lot in both directions. the weather not helping out in this evening commute. it is a slow roll, especially in that eastbound direction all the way past el sobrante right now, the rain drenching many parts of the bay area this evening are tom vacar is in mill valley with how it's looking in the north bay. >> tom. >> well, if you have to make the call, the call is squall. basically what happens is you have these intense rainstorm forms that come through and then it basically doesn't happen. now we're in the manzanita parking lot, which frequently floods during high tides. but if you look at this video, what you can see is how intense the rain was here. just a few minutes ago. bound off the windshield, making all kinds of noise. and because of that, of course, then you start getting some localized flooding, even here in the parking lot comes back out live. if you take a look, there's a
5:03 pm
sign up here that's been up for a few days because of high tide saying stay out of the marked off areas because we're going to give you a ticket because we're going to have to haul that car out of there. but right now, because of the rain, some of that localized flooding is happening now. it will drain off eventually, but if a high tide comes in, then it'll be that much longer for it to obviously dissipate out by running downhill. but right now, a lot of rain. the highways are very, very wet and there's a lot of water on that hydroplaning very, very common right now. even on city streets. so take care. that's the situation in sausalito and mill valley. tom vacar ktvu of fox two news. >> yeah, a lot more rain on the way behind this system. all right. tom vacar in the north bay tonight, tom. thanks. >> all right. now to san francisco, where it's also been a very wet evening commute. ktvu is alice wertz joins us live from the city there along market street. wet afternoon and now evening. alice that's right. >> boy, when bill was talking about moderate rain, it happened
5:04 pm
just then. and we're getting soaked out here in san francisco. so the wind is picking up. it started earlier this morning with a little bit of lightrillionain. however, once we got into the afternoon here in the city, the wind picked up and sprinkles happened everywhere. uh, you'll see the hoodies are up. the umbrellas are out, and if you're walking the dog, the dog and you are both getting wet in this rain this evening, probably going to disrupt the commute a bit, but we'll have more about that with later here. coming up in the weather report, alice wertz live in san francisco, ktvu fox two news. >> hey, real quick, alice, what about the wind? has it been a windy afternoon and now evening there in the city or no, you know, it just picked up a little while ago and the wind came blowing through and it brought the rain traveling sideways here on market street for about five minutes. >> but it's lightened up a bit now. sounds good. >> alice was live tonight in san francisco. alice. thank you. we do have live weather coverage throughout the night on the fox

5:07 pm
best that they could. and i'm so proud of them that they ran into danger getting two people into custody and at the same time rendering life sustaining aid to those victims. >> so i heard shots coming out the very end of the parade. it was very loud. it kind of sounded like fireworks. i was super confused. people started running over from that side, away from it. >> and we are getting more witness video of the suspects being taken down. so far, authorities have not released any information on those suspects or the person who died. kansas city police worked for hours to clear the scene today while they investigate exactly what happened and why this may have happened. it was a stark contrast to the joyful mood earlier in the day at the parade . the shooting happened right as the chiefs team was already on busses returning to arrowhead stadium after their rally that wrapped up the parade. super bowl mvp patrick mahomes posted on ex today quote, praying for kansas city offensive guard trey smith thanked the

5:13 pm
>> this effort is more than just making sure police dispatchers notify their neighbors when criminals are leading cops on a chase in other cities, officials say this plan will leverage technology, resources and interagency expertise to better identify crime trends. on a broader level, this opportunity through this regional collaboration will allow us to come together with more coordinated and strategic and intentional efforts to deliver on that model of love life, not just in the city of oakland, but we hope throughout this region, police and city officials from oakland, berkeley, emeryville, san leandro and alameda county made their announcement outside a hotel along hegenberger road in oakland, a corridor that's seen a number of high profile burglaries and business closures . berkeley police chief jen lewis pointed to recent arrests of alleged apple store thieves, including tyler mims, who police say is seen here stealing 50 iphones from the store at bay street, emeryville. he and others were caught with the help of berkeley, emeryville and oakland police, as well as the chp. this cruise total haul about 300 iphones worth more

5:16 pm
totals for our wednesday today through monday, which is a few days, right? is, you know, 3.5in in the central bay, two and a half to 3.5in. that's a that's a decent weather system. but it's not the kind that's going to give you problems. big hydro problems where you're seeing road flooding and things like that. at least that's not the that's not typical for that much rain. and that long a time. so we're not too worried about that. but you know, it comes up in the mountains. they're getting a bunch of snow that is for sure. and that snow is going to continue to fall really, even though we get some slight breaks tomorrow and friday, that snow is going to continue to fall into saturday, sunday, monday and probably into tuesday as well. so the mountains are going to get to be a real benefactor of this event. >> all right, bill, thank you. well it's not your typical undercover operation. take a look at this. an undercover bear trying to make a drug bust in lima, peru. the suspect is a woman who came down the stairs thinking someone sent her gifts. well, the bust worked because the police officer in the costume made the arrest. police say they found cocaine in the woman's apartment. rent. the
