out of kansas city, and we'll have more tonight on the 10:00 news and on ktvu .com. >> well, after a few dry days, the rain is back. here's what it looked like. this afternoon near third and market in san francisco. so a lot of people carrying umbrellas and dressed up in warm coats as they went about their shopping, their errands today are just making their way home for the day. the rain was also coming down in the north bay. this is a look at sausalito this afternoon where windshield wipers were coming in handy for drivers. >> and in some areas it's been really coming down now in the last hour. this is a look along highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. earlier today, chp said it did respond to at least four crashes on 17 and highway one there in the county. and let's give you a live look now at the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see it's a parking lot as people are trying to make their way into the city, chief meteorologist bill martin joins us now. bill, is this going to die out in a few hours here? yeah that's kind of what's happening now. >> mike. we had the last burst of heavy rain has moving through
6:04 pm
the santa cruz mountains right now and into the south bay down towards morgan hill and gilroy are out of that area. the heaviest rain was this morning. marin county had half inch up in santa rosa. can feel the half inch east bay not as much. you can see 10th of an inch, but those numbers have come up. obviously this is sort of a moving target. so i would guess say orinda is probably at about 0.30 or something like that. napa is probably well, napa doesn't make sense. we got to look at that number again, don't we? especially if it's a north bay number 0.04. but the numbers have been varied and the rainfall is still coming down very light to moderate at this hour. the heavy stuff would be represented by the yellows. right. and you can kind of see it down here in the santa cruz mountains. but as you look up, up this way, you know, the relatively light showers for the most part, but it still makes for a wet afternoon commute. and so how does this play into tomorrow? so it's pretty much over. so tomorrow morning's commute should be dry tomorrow afternoon's commute should be dry. i think we'll see a little valley fog in the morning. there is a way outside. chance for a sprinkle or shower tomorrow morning, but i think that's a
6:05 pm
long shot. so really, what we're getting is what we're getting right now. and then it should be winding down. but it is right on the afternoon commute. and of course, as you know, that makes it kind of makes for a sticky wicket, if you will. so we got the showers, but they're winding down. i'll have the full timing and of this system and then of the next two systems that are headed our way. >> all right. we'll see you in a bit, bill. thank you. well we have live weather coverage throughout the night on the fox local app. you'll be able to watch the radar and get updates from the ktvu weather department. in between live newscasts, the app is a free download for your smart tv. >> new at six fremont police say a man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked along a very busy stretch of roadway is now in custody as ktvu is. anne rubin reports. police created two good samaritans withholding the suspect until officers arrived. take a good look at marvin velasquez. >> fremont police say this is the man responsible for a violent sexual assault along a very busy street. it's horrific on every level. you never want to see this happen. investigators say it happened

6:10 pm
combining of resources and enabled a follow on the next steps in an offense, the ability to share that data between our agencies to really operate regionally instead of as individual cities. >> the elected officials and law enforcement plan to meet quarterly to compare notes and share crime data. henry lee, ktvu, fox two news, oakland mayor shengtao is not at that safety event today because she has temporarily stepped away from office to mourn the death of her mother. >> the mayor's office says chu tao passed away this morning. she was born in laos and fled ethnic persecution there. she met her husband in a refugee camp in thailand and immigrated to california. she is survived by her husband, ten children and grandchildren. city administrator justin johnson will oversee city operations and deputy mayor kimberly mayfield will stand in for mayor tao at public events while she and her family mourn in.
