celebrate celebrating with special valentine's day menu at places such as barsha, a restaurant whose name means joy and celebration. >> whenever they're happy, they'll yell barsha! >> so the owner decided to name the restaurant. >> after that, the vibe was very cozy and romantic. i can see a lot of other couples having a great time. >> one drawback wednesday was the pouring rain. >> i love the rain. actually just not when it's raining on our guests. we made sure to move the early ones inside along the embarcadero. >> people with umbrellas carrying their valentine's bouquets scurried for cover inside, commuters picked up last minute flowers and candy at for cutie confetti. the owner, michael ricchiuti, says they were selling out of some chocolates after a mention in the new york times. >> this particular valentine's turned out to be way more busier than we anticipated, and while other couples were at dinner for valentine's day, he and his wife jackie, have 34 years were side by side working this was our

of the city. at this hour. and stay with us. our chief meteorologist, bill martin, will be back with the latest on today's rain and the timing for the next storm system that's rolling into the bay area. >> new at 11 santa rosa police are currently searching for a senior citizen who went missing today. police say they are looking for 79 year old richard cleverly. he was last seen along thomas lake harris drive, near the oakmont of the terraces senior living facility. this was around 215 this afternoon. mr. cleverly was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. if you have seen him or know anything about his whereabouts, you're asked to contact the santa rosa police department. >> police in san jose are investigating a stabbing death near a homeless encampment. investigators believe the suspect was stabbed yesterday afternoon after being involved in a physical fight, according to one resident. tensions at the encampment were boiling over after a recent visit from city workers. the incident happened near an area that was cleared of homeless encampments back in 2022, after it was declared unsafe. people are

disproportionately people who are brown and black, have been abandoned here, and many people were told during the initial sweep that they were going to have their vehicles repaired and they didn't. >> and so many people have just been marooned here waiting for their vehicles to be repaired. >> authorities have not confirmed the man's identity or released any information about why he was stabbed. >> tonight, police in kansas city are searching for a motive after a mass shooting following the chiefs super bowl parade and rally. one woman was killed. more than 20 others were injured, including several children. ktvu. s joey jordan live tonight in the newsroom and joey. three people detained here by police. >> yeah, mike. and we still have a lot of questions. you know, for one of those. what are these? who are these suspects? they haven't been identified. and here's what we do know. a radio station confirming that one of their djs lost her life in the shooting. a couple of fans could be seen tackling a man who appeared to have a gun, while others ran for their lives . gunshots ring out at the end

of a parade celebrating the kansas city chiefs super bowl victory over the san francisco 49ers. authorities say more than 20 people were shot, including several children, causing a panicked crowd to flee. >> my wife looked at me like there was no words, even spoken like we just tucked and rolled kind of deal, like we just had to get out of there. >> cell phone video capturing two chiefs fans springing into action, running after another man and tackling him to the ground. and among the large crowd, many of the more than 800 law enforcement already on hand before the shooting could be seen running towards danger. >> we saw the police swarm a stairwell and then we heard another pop. from there, and that's when i was like, okay, we're gone. >> tejano dj lisa lopez, a mother of two, was killed in the shooting, according to the radio station where she worked like it is just it's really it's really sad. a man dressed in a red sweat suit could be seen in

handcuffs. one of the three people taken into custody. >> there are a lot more people who are going to be forever impacted by by what happened here today. >> the mayor saying no members of the chiefs were hurt. quarterback patrick mahomes posted on acts praying for kansas city tight end travis kelce, posting, i am heartbroken over the tragedy that took place today. my heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. this shooting, again reigniting the debate on gun control. >> we became part of a statistic of too many americans, those who have experienced or been part of, or connected to a mass shooting. the reality of it is a lot of this can be prevented if members of legislatures, including the united states congress, just have the courage to act. >> members of congress, pausing for a moment of silence on the house floor wednesday night with california governor gavin newsom posting, we need to pass a constitutional amendment to

prevent gun violence nationwide. police are still trying to determine a motive for this shooting. it's still not clear how many of those three suspects opened fire, but police did recover a gun. we still don't know what type of gun it is yet or how many shots were fired. mike joey jordan live tonight in the newsroom. >> joey. thank you. the mass shooting in kansas city falls on the six year anniversary of the school shooting in parkland, florida. 17 students and staff members were killed in the shooting at marjory stoneman douglas high school. on this day in 2018. there is no known link between these incidents. according to the gun violence archive, there have been 49 mass shootings, so far this year. there were 656 mass shootings last year, defined as having a minimum of four victims shot either injured or killed, in southern california, a high school student was arrested after police say he plotted to carry out a school shooting. >> the suspect, 18 year old sebastian villa senior, was a student at ontario christian

high in san bernardino county. police say they were alerted to the plot after a concerned classmate spoke to school officials. police believe he was planning his attack for april around the columbine anniversary , villa senior had five intended victims and contemplated a sixth victim. >> all of the potential victims are students of ontario christian high school. >> police say officers found numerous weapons at the suspect's home. he is facing multiple felony charges, including five counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted criminal threats. >> still to come, several dating apps now being sued. the lawsuit filed today in san francisco, also said a man is accused of sexual assault in the east bay. >> the good samaritans, who helped capture the suspect but first west coast rap right after the break. >> the big airline that could soon see a flight attendant strike

for senate - democrat katie porter. i'm katie porter and i approve this message. aiming at software after two of its cars hit a pickup truck that was being towed in phenix. this was back in december, waymo said . the collisions caused minor vehicle damage and no one was injured. the company says the software has since been updated now to washington, where state lawmakers are considering new legislation to beef up security for cannabis shops to curb break ins.

>> the senate bill has three components intended to crack down on this kind of crime. if you use a vehicle, you face a minimum of 12 months in jail. victims will be required to report break ins to the liquor and cannabis board, which isn't tracking these crimes right now. the board would then share its findings with state patrol. some shop owners are skeptical the proposals wouldn't deter crime. >> i'm this juvenile. all is being tried. however they say they do not focus on punishment, that they focus on rehabilitation. this bill that is passing through right now is an excellent thing. but the most important thing right now that i know we need is to have juveniles being part of that. some shop owners say having items like concrete blocks, metal barricades and heavy duty planters in front of their businesses would be a better deterrent to these burglaries. >> flight attendants for seattle based alaska airlines have voted to strike more than 99% approved this move. the next step is a

cooling off period before the strike can officially happen. the flight attendants last went on strike in 1993. alaska airlines agrees the flight attendants need a new contract, adding that's why they are working to get a deal done. yesterday flight attendants from several airlines walked picket lines across the country, and you can hear about the west coast top stories every weekday right here on ktvu. west coast rap with alex savage airs 7:00 monday through friday, or you can find round the clock coverage at west coast rap .com. >> new at 11 tonight, a lawsuit filed in san francisco today is claiming tinder and other dating apps are purposefully designed to get users addicted to the platform. the class action suit implicates the match group, which owns winter hinge and the league. it claims the business model is predatory for enticing users to pay for expensive subscriptions with elusive rewards ads. there are six plaintiffs in the case, one from california. the suit seeks unclear damages for anyone who paid for these apps in the last four years, coming up after the

december after 13 years on the job. >> fremont police say a man who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked along a busy stretch of road is now in custody. ktvu is an rubin tells us. police credit two good samaritans with holding the suspect until authorities arrived. >> take a good look at marvin velazquez. fremont police say this is the man responsible for a violent sexual assault along a very busy street, but it's horrific on every level. you never want to see this happen. investigators say it happened just after 9 p.m. monday on a stretch of fremont boulevard lined with schools, churches and businesses. the victim was walking alone when she was jumped by a stranger. he dragged her down and then he struck her in the face prior to committing the sexual assault. but before the suspect could get away, he was pinned by two good samaritans. and for that, police say they're grateful. >> it was very heroic of those people. the two people that stopped to help, uh, to hold the suspect down until we got there, velazquez is set to be arraigned

thursday. >> police say this crime was so violent and so public. they fear it wasn't a first offense. >> for the most part, it's a typical safe area. but i mean, things happen. >> authorities say this should serve as a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings and to trust your instincts. residents say it's a wake up call. >> i think more cautious. i had to be like, aware. usually i have pretty good sixth sense. >> i keep an eye on things. i'm always alert. i don't look at my phone too much, but more than afraid, residents say they're sad. >> you know, i want to live here and i want to feel comfortable and safe here, you know? and you almost don't. >> sometimes police say they are looking for other victims. they're also hoping additional witnesses in this case will come forward. anyone with information is asked to contact fremont police in fremont. and ruben ktvu, fox two news. all righty. >> having a nice night, i hope. and getting ready for bed as we go into tomorrow. it's going to be dry for the most part. the showers are ending behind me.

you can see what's left on the radar, which is showing where it's raining now and you can clearly see the back edge, which is right in here, and it's moving off in this direction. the winter storm warning stays in effect through tomorrow afternoon for lake tahoe. they're going to get snow and they're going to get a foot and two feet of snow. and they're going to get more nat as we get into saturday, sunday and monday. so these are some of the accumulate options. just a rough count. the numbers will probably evolve a little bit tomorrow. but basically a half inch on the high end. some areas are three nearly three quarters of an inch in some areas, like san jose, just 2/100 of an inch. so really depended where you were dry from the sky on the golden gate bridge. oh, they're doing that thing on the bridge where they're changing the lanes around. you know, where they stack that barrier and they move it, which is kind of neat, but it's dry on the road. so. or not coming, it's dry from the sky, wet on the road. and that's kind of how tomorrow morning's commute will be. it'll be a little bit wet on the roads, a little bit of valley fog potential as well. the clearing behind this front, as you see there is the high pressure, an

indication of just a quick high. high pressure builds in between storms and that allows the fog to set up. so not everywhere, but it'll be patchy in the usual spots. so san jose has got some scattered showers right now. hayward has got some scattered showers. should be winding down though. oakland's got a couple showers as well. livermore the overnight lows will be on the mild side that is because of the cloud cover and the rain just keeps things a little warmer. temperatures outside in the morning are going to be in the 40s. and then this is the model. so that's what you want to see. so here we go. this is tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon okay. and then here comes friday morning friday afternoon. and then here comes saturday. and you can see it out there. right. so this now you've gone through thursday. friday. pretty nice pretty dry. and then saturday gets going saturday morning and then saturday mid or saturday afternoon into the evening. so saturday is a wet day and it'll be wetter than what we had today by probably double the rainfall accumulation. so instead of an inch, an inch or pardon me, instead of a half of an inch, an inch instead of a 10th of an inch, 2/10 of a inch, that type of a thing. so more rain, a little more wind with the

saturday storm. and then sunday, the sunday, late monday thing looks even a little stronger. julie with some wind and rain and the mountains. by the time it's all done, mountains are going to have maybe 3 to 5ft of snow by mid next week. yeah probably by, yeah, by. and they had the world cup at palisades tahoe the next weekend so that they'll be stoked out of the snow getting a little break. >> and then we're getting a hit again getting the brakes. >> that's the key right. >> yep. the brakes all right. >> thanks bill. >> thank you bill. well the santa clara vta is showing off its new fleet of hybrid busses ready to hit the south bay. the first two of the 92 busses have arrived. each state of the art hybrid bus costs more than $820,000. vta expects the full fleet to be operational in the coming month, with an expected delivery rate of six busses a week. the busses will improve the fuel economy by up to 25% compared to the diesel busses that the vta is putting out of commission. >> the city of hayward wants to help small businesses that are facing a number of challenges. the city launched a new grant program called hashtag hayward to leverage the power of social media to boost brand awareness

and reach a wider audience. now, the city says the program helps businesses with a number of improvements, including the creation of murals and sculptures right outside their stores, which can serve as an ideal backdrop for people taking photos and then sharing them on social media. earlier today, we did speak with paul wynn. he is the chief economic development officer for hayward about this innovative grant program. customers like you and me, heather, are going to places to shop and we are sharing our experiences through social media by taking selfies, pictures of our food, pictures of the interior, of cool shops and what the city of hayward hashtag hayward grant program does is provide small businesses with the funding to make those improvements, to make those eye-catching improvements so customers can post online. businesses can also receive help with window lighting and enhancements to the facades of their buildings. any business in the city of hayward with an active storefront and active business license, is eligible to apply for the grant, which can be as much as $10,000. the city of hayward has already identified bay area influencers

to arrive on monday. >> well, a sweet story of love out of redwood city on this valentine's day. >> yeah. tonight a couple is sharing their story to let others know it is never too late to find love. ktvu amber lee reports. >> 82 year old carolyn downey and 85 year old don levy are celebrating valentine's day with a white wine he gifted her. they first met here eight years ago in the dining room of brookdale redwood city. a retirement home was eating breakfast and he just kept hanging around and i didn't know why. >> something attracted me to her . >> uh, she's a good looking woman, levy tells me he was not looking for love at the time. >> it was two years after losing his wife of 54 years, downey, a retired school teacher, says after two short marriages that failed in her early years, she too, was not interested in a relationship. >> he was persistent and we

wound up then eating together and then going in the in the pool. >> downey says she was impressed by levy's accomplishments. he worked for the city of san francisco for many years before retiring. >> it's still exciting. i always love listening to him and looking at him. >> but three years ago, levy moved away to join his daughter in washington state. >> i was really mad and i wouldn't even go and say goodbye to him and he left and that was that, levy says. >> after 18 months away, he changed his mind. >> i kept calling her every night and flying down here to be with her, and he returned to redwood city and moved in with downey. >> she tells me she never thought at this stage of her life, she would meet the love of her life. levy reads from the valentine's day card she made for him. >> may you continue to thrive for a very long time with love. yours is carolyn. happy
