davis, former lubbock, texas police chief floyd mitchell and former san leandro police chief abdul pridgen. pridgen recently left the san leandro police department after allegations he violated department policy. he was also on the commission's last list of finalists. reject voted by oakland mayor shane tao, civil rights attorney jim shannon telling us it's going to be a hard sell unless pridgen chief pridgen has been cleared of his charges. >> in this case, it's going to be very difficult to see why the commission put pridgen up there. when the mayor has already rejected. him. now shannon would not elaborate, but said he's surprised the commission did not select an internal candidate to be on that short list. >> the four candidates will now appear at a police chief candidate community forum thursday night at 630 at city hall, a spokesperson for mayor

>> corsetti serves up coastal italian cuisine at union square. the restaurant opened just six months ago. >> we've done a good job to create a little cozy pocket in downtown san francisco, executive chef holly macerlean is a san francisco native. >> she says she's saddened by news of macy's union square closing, but says corsetti is among the new businesses that represent growth and change in the area. she tells me when she first started working downtown, she had concerns about crime and safety. >> there is a lot of hope and we are on the right track. we're not going backward. i already feel us moving forward. tourism is still very much alive. >> we do events here as well. >> the starlight cocktail lounge reopened at the beginning of the month for the first time since the pandemic. it is on the top floor of beacon grand, formerly known as the sir francis drake hotel, under new ownership, it offers a sweeping views, including of macy's union square. >> there's a lot of history

attractions will continue to attract people here in san francisco. amber lee, ktvu, fox two news and this is n the first time macy's has closed stores in the bay area. >> back in 2017, the macy's at stonestown galleria closed and the richmond hilltop mall location shuttered. in 20. and this year, the bayfair center macy's in san leandro also closed. it is still unclear if any other macy's stores in the bay area will close as a result of today's announcement. >> new at 11 contra costa county prosecutor is charged a man with murder in the shooting death of the mother of his young son. 36 year old jeffrey kendall is accused of murdering 30 year old brittany ligdus. earlier this month. investigators say during the morning of the incident, kendall broke into the woman's home in pinole and fatally shot her. the toddler was home at the time but not injured. kendall was booked into the county jail in martinez. he is charged with murder, having an assault weapon and child endangerment. >> a berkeley resident who was

hit by a car while jogging two weeks ago has died from her injuries. as ktvu joy huerta shows us friends and coworkers are remembering her as a kind and giving spirit. ask anyone who lives here and they'll tell you. >> the intersection of marin avenue and oxford street in the berkeley hills is dangerous. >> it's just a very, very treacherous situation. >> reporter berkeley police say a pedestrian was in the intersection on february 12th, around 1:30 p.m, when she got hit by a car for ends. identify her as 37 year old julia elkin. out for a jog. >> tremendous future ahead of her. >> elkin had just landed her dream job at sonoma land trust, her alma mater. the university of michigan. posting that the accident left her with a traumatic brain injury. police say she died sunday night. >> i've met her on many occasions and she stands out. she's how you'd want your kids

an unspeakable tragedy to her family and to her friends. there's now a makeshift memorial , a bouquet tied to the stop sign where elkin was hit as the woman known for her giving spirit paid it forward one last time. she's so generous. >> she gave all her organs, joey ktvu, fox two news. >> new at 11 san mateo police arrested a man for carrying an unregistered gun. officers made that arrest during a traffic stop late last night at south norfolk street and east hillsdale boulevard. they stopped a black chrysler and found an unregistered loaded pistol and a second loaded magazine in the back seat of a car. police determined that the gun belonged to matthew barnett, an 18 year old antioch resident. police say barnett was booked in the san mateo county jail on multiple firearms related charges. some residents of east oakland say they want the owner of the oakland a's to step up to the plate and help shape the future of the oakland coliseum. >> the oakland united coalition says it's been working for

nearly ten years to ensure that any stadium development happens equitably. the group says it should include affordable housing, living wage jobs and safe and healthy neighborhoods. they're calling on owner john fisher to sell his half share in the coliseum, or negotiate an agreement to allow other interested sports teams to use the facility. >> we demand self-determination, an we demand community benefits. we demand that public land be used for public good. who we implore the oakland athletics ownership to stop blocking east oakland communities from benefiting from the economic resources that a thriving, well used coliseum could provide. >> the a's lease at the coliseum expires at the end of the season, but the team is in talks with the coliseum authority to possibly extend that lease, even as the organization still continues with its plans to move to las vegas. >> well, the san francisco

giants say that former a's broadcaster glen kuiper is not not joining their broadcast team . that's after he was heard on a radio broadcast of today's spring training game. kuiper was fired last may after he used a racial slur during a broadcast he took part in a spring training broadcast on knbr yesterday. glen kuiper is the younger brother of san francisco giants television play by play broadcaster duane kuiper. the giants told us that the kuiper brothers and others will be guests on their audio casts during spring training. >> still to come, san mateo county. demanding answers from at&t. the company's plan that could affect thousands of customers here in the bay area, plus a vigil in the south bay for a u.s. airman who set himself on fire in protest of the war in gaza. but first, west coast wrap up next in 90s, the murder suspect now indicted in arizona following a violent crime spree

khaled al-mansouri faces two counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault and other charges. arizona prosecutors say al-mansouri was in the midst of a violent crime spree when he was arrested in scottsdale on february 18th. authorities say he went to arizona just days after he allegedly beat and strangled a woman to death inside of a new york hotel. he is also accused of stabbing two arizona women earlier this

month, now to the state of nevada, where there is a new twist in the trial of a former elected official charged in the killing of a journalist in las vegas, robert tellis has pleaded not guilty to the deadly stabbing of jeff gehrman in 2022. >> gehrman had written stories about alleged mismanagement by the former clark county public administrator, the defense attorney now says he has received a recording of a threatening voicemail to gehrman that is not from tellis. he's asking for a continuance of the case, set to go to trial next month. prosecutors have said that dna does link tellis to the murder, and in oregon, the state senate there passed a bill today that prohibits book bans at public schools and libraries. >> it includes bans on the basis of race, gender identity, country of origin, sexual orientation, disability, and immigrant status. backers say the legislation protects a parent's right to decide what their children can read. the bill now goes to the oregon

definitely go thursday morning would be the, you know, thursday before lunchtime and then you're pushing it and getting back. it's going to be tough. and blizzard warning is a big deal especially up there. and you're going to see it over a few days. and you could see eight feet nine feet. i've seen models that say ten feet of snow maybe, but you know, let's just say it's going to be six feet of snow in three days, two feet a day. that's going to shut things down. so what does it mean? means don't go. i hate to say that, but don't go unless you got unless you're going to go early and leave late here are the highs today. and by the way, you're thinking, okay, a lot of snow up there. that means a bunch of rain here. and it doesn't. it means kind of light to moderate rain compared to the weather that we've been seeing compared to the, um, the systems that have come through the lower latitude or el nino systems. so here is the live camera. we've got that frosted advisory in effect for the bay area, um, or the north bay. pardon me. these are the forecasts overnight lows not above freezing for the most part. and then there's the jet stream kind of to the north.

that's the next system. this guy up here is going to come down. look how cold that looks. that's the system. it's cold air. not a lot of water but a lot of energy. and with that energy is going to come a lot of wind. here's tomorrow morning right here for here's tomorrow afternoon. that's the model. so it looks good like today a little more clouds in the afternoon. and then on thursday morning starts to get kind of kind of cloudy and a little bit drizzly. and then by thursday afternoon it's wet on the afternoon commute. but this is not a super drenching rain. you can see how sparse it is. but in the mountains it's not sparse. it's piling up on the west slope. it's just perpendicular to the jet stream, to the west slope, and it's just going to pile the clouds up and bring in ridiculous amounts of snow. biggest winter storm of the season for the mountains. not unheard of. we've seen it, but storms like this before. we just haven't had one this year. these are the forecast highs for tomorrow, so it's going to be a nice day tomorrow. there's the five day forecast this weekend will be interesting. it's the headline will be for the bay area. the headline will be whew

told you last week how tesla abruptly canceled an order of 2000 mini pies. the owner of the giving pies on west alma avenue posted about the problem on social media and since then, community members have stepped up to support that business. elon musk posted on x that he would make good and today we learned that actually has happened. the owner tells us tesla has paid the $2,000 invoice and even asked her to cater more company events. the owners also said she's happy and grateful for all the support from the willow glen community. >> as we first showed you last night, surveillance video in livermore captured the moment when a mountain lion was kind of poking around outside of a house, and that prompted some concern from neighbors, as ktvu is, jesse gary tells us, a mountain lion spotted at one house may have gone to visit others as well. >> the dead of night darkness of a suburban east bay street, pierced by the eerie eyes of a mountain lion on the prowl.

sunday, 3:01 a.m. >> um, there was a an image of a of a large cat and she said, it looks like a mountain lion to me . she sent it to me and, um, she sure enough, it it was a juvenile amanda murphy's parents lived near the intersection of sienna road and lexington way in livermore. >> the subdivision sits next to a large wildlife interface. murphy says the juvenile cat walked across her parents front yard and then moved down the block. were you afraid for your parents at all? >> no, not at all. um, just more concerned with, you know, letting people know that, um, uh , this is a normal behavior, but but keep your little kitties and dogs inside. >> the fact that it's near, like a forested area, an open space that makes sense to especially these younger individuals. they are still kind of figuring out how to be a mountain lion. and older ones might be smarter at avoiding, you know, those areas at all. >> alice granados of the bay area puma project, says most

confirmed and suspected big cat sightings in the bay area are not in the east bay. that area has 318 reports dating back to 2004, but the south bay, with over 2200 and the peninsula with 553, dominate the region. >> the reason why that's even happening at all, at all is just because of the loss of their habitat. so that open space is a good place for them, but probably not big enough to, to, um, you know, encompass their whole home range. >> experts say the same mountain lion will likely be sighted near other homes in the coming days. they advise residents to bring in food and pets and be alert when walking at night. in the south bay bureau. i'm jesse gary , ktvu, fox two news. >> bay fc kicked off training on its home turf for the very first time. the women's soccer club began practice today at san jose state university. the campus will be the practice home of bay fc for its inaugural season in the national women's soccer

league, which does kick off, by the way, march 17th. the team had 23 players out there on the practice field and until today they've been practicing on different training fields. >> it's going to be a relief to finally get on the field and show all of our hard work that we've been putting in and grinding through a really hard preseason. the coaches have really pushed us, and i think we're all going to be really excited and relieved to show that to everybody. >> bay fc will have its first match of the season in los angeles against angel city, march 17th. all home games will be played at paypal park well in east bay high school soccer team today. >> they faced off with a team from placer county for a state championship run. orinda's miramonte high school matadors varsity girls soccer team went up against colfax high school's team. they already won the division of norcal soccer championship last week, and this was the road to state. the matadors worked for months to get to this moment. >> the people are what made the great season possible. i think
