little earlier. oops i that's a nice picture it's not bay pointt it's, uh, it's a nice picture. there's highwayc 24 in lafayette thatúlooks very nice. now, at 401. let's go back to the headlines. >> okay, sal. thank you. an east bay man who reported that his wife and mother in law were missing back in september is now being charged with murder. katie icu is. >> amber lee was at the west county detention facility in richmond, where the suspect is being held. policeúsay the single family home in san pablo is a crime scene. >> they suspect that the owner killed his wife and mother in law in the home, and tried to cover it up by reporting them missing. in september, investigators shared with me this video of them searching the home. on thursday, police say they found enough evidence to arrest him for murder. a neighbor tells me she sensed something was wrong because she hadn't seen the woman in months. >> the last time we ever saw

them was back in september 2023, which is really weird, weird, says jasmine. >> rocio because tollet and her 74 year old mother, tran, would often be seen gardening in the yard. neighbors say police dug up the yard in their search for clues to the women's whereabouts . so far, they haven't been found, the husband allegedly told police the women drove off in this family vehicle and may have headed to southern california, but police say leads helped them locate the car in oakland at park and that they caught the suspect in a lie after they put the car under surveillance. >> this clip shows the suspect on december fifth entering the parked vehicle. >> peggy chow san pablo police spokesperson, tells vo moving the vehicle just hours after telling police during an interview he didn't know where the car was. >> so from when the last time you saw her, you have you seen that car at all? >> no. police say manager and he works at a nail salon. and that

an argument over money may have led to the women's disappearance. extent of grief or shock that, you know, a family might be exp. >> the couple has a young disappeared after an argumentt- with dad, says that his mom had been missing for a while and that they had fought or something, and he hadn't seen her and he missed her. >> the suspect's bail is set at $2 million. >> his first court appearance is scheduled for tuesday afternoon. police say they are still searching for the two women. an amber lee ktvu fox two news. >> thank you. amber san rosa police and the sonoma county district attorney's office are investigatingc the deadly shootout between a suspect and four sheriff's deputies. authorities have not released the name of the suspect, but candles were placed to mark the spot where he died. deputies responded to reports of a man waving a west santa rosa. that's both a

restaurant and a nightclub. he took off when law enforcement arrived. later into his radio that the suspect was shooting at him. more shots were exchanged and the suspect took off again. the chase finally ended when he crashed and died. it's not clear, though , if he died from a gunshot or from the crash. our detectives are currently working diligently to put together the timeline of events to include the reason why the suspect chose to engage in the actions he did for deputies were hurt in the incident. one has a critical head injury, another was shot in the leg and is recovering. the sheriff's office will release the body cam video at a later date. >> our timeúis now 404. a search for three gunmen in monterey county continues this morning after a mass shooting in king city on saturday, outside of a birthday party. king city is southeast of salinas and witnesses say the masked gunman drove up to the home where the

party was being held. they got out of their car and started shooting. 11 people were shot and three men and one woman were killed. two other victims are in critical condition. one mother says and another daughter was wounded. >> i want there to be justice. i want there to be justice for what happened to my daughters. i want justice asúsoon as possible. a. $20,000 reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people involved. sp>> a vote to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price could happen as soon as next month. prices critics have turned in ten boxes of signatures totaling more than 123,p00 names. that's 50,000 more than needed has ten days to validate the signatures and confirm that. 73,000 of them actually live in alameda countyn recall organizers are confident they have enough. >> we shouldn't have to do this.

but for the safety of our community, for the safety of our children, the safety of our businesses, this is something that had to be done. >> price's supporters are questioning how some of the signatures were collected. her supporters first wrote to california attorney general rob bonta, asking him to investigate allegations of deceptive tactics by recall organizers. now, a letter has been sent to california secretary of state shirley weber. >> we've asked her to ensure that she dedicates resource immediately to ensure that each and every signature is both reviewed independently and verified. >> there's some uncertainty about the recall vote due to measure b on today's ballot. now, it would change alamedat-so mirror california's. if b passes, it would raise the threshold of signatures needed for a recall price. opponents say no matter what happens, they are confident there will be a recall vote. >> our time now 407 today is super tuesday, one of the

biggest political days for candidates trying to become the next president of the united states in 15 states and one territory, voters will be casting ballots in primary elections. almost a third of all republican and democratic delegates are for grabs. now here in california, voters have been able to vote by mail for several weeks. >> the economy was great. we didn't go into any wars. we totally defeated isis. >> it is time for a new generational leader. on the republican side, former president trump has been dominating the republican primaries against his rival, nikki haley. >> trump needs to win about a thousand delegates to clinch the nomination. now, he's not expected to be able to get there tonight, but if the results follow the recent polling, he'll win enough support to be the overwhelming republican favorite here in california. trump and recent republican polls gets almost 75% support, but women

put joe biden in the white house and women are going to do it again. in the meantime, democrats are hoping fears about losing access to abortion since roe versus wade was overturned will convince people to vote for president biden. >> this is a busy week for president biden, who is keeping a close eye on today's results. yeah, pam. >> on thursday, the president will have a chanceúto connect with voters when he delivers his state of the union address with an approval rating 42. that address could most important speech of his reelection campaign. millions of people are expected to watch so it will be the biggest tv audience he'll get, at least until the convention in august, according to the white house. the president will highlight his economic agenda, protect for women's reproductive rights and uniting the nation. >> and i can tell you that the president is ready. he's ready to take that moment to talk about the state of the union, to

only in e app. trump can be on the 2024 presidential primary ballotsn the court ruled that states cannot invoke a post-civil war constitutional provision that bans former officeholders who engaged in insurrection holding office again. instead the court ruled that only congress has that power. the donald trump had been removed from the ballots in colorado. in maine and illinois, but all three of those rulings were on hold, awaiting the supreme court decision. >> governor gavin newsom not holding back on a federal court and how it handles the issue of

homelessness. now, the governor released a statementc saying, quote, encampments are dangerous, period. india is investing billions to build housing and provide the services needed to get people out of tents and into safer situations. however, our best efforts are being blocked because of sweeping injunctions that delay progress and fail to provide any consistent guidance for local authorities to abide by. now, united states supreme court hear a case that would determine if a local government can make it a crime to involuntarily live outside and unsheltered. >> our time now for 16. we're now hearing from health officials in marin county five people died in the last two weeks from fentanyl drug overdose, his ktvu zac sos tells us people may be using fentanyl without knowing it. >> we're seeing an unfortunate and dramatic uptick in overdose deaths. in marin county. >> five overdose deaths tied to fentanyl in just the last two

weeks. >> normally andútragically, you know, we have about one overdose death every week. >> but prior to the last two weeks, county public health officer doctor matt willis says only around half of those deaths >> in these last five have all been related to fentanyl, and all have been among people who were using multiple substances spat once. and so one of our primary concerns is that this may be a contaminate issue. >> a number of street drugs now frequently being laced with vul. >> there are substances like methamphetamine and cocaine that help people stay up so they can keep themselves safe. >> rory reger heads up behavioral health services at the ritter center in san rafael. the nonprofit provides a range of free services to theúcounty's homeless population, including substance use treatment. >ñ a newer approach that we have is contingency management, or

what also is referred to as recovery incentives, which is a regular drug screening that builds in incentivizing people to reduce or eliminate amphetame use. >> the center also provides a free vending machine stocked with narcan fentanyl testing strips, and other harm reduction supplies. we can provide more access and more low barrier care to people that that is the solution. the county's message to anyone taking drugs carry narcan, carry testing strips and don't use alone. >> if we do those three things, we think that we can be much safer for that, you know, segment of our population who is using substances. and another tool that the county says it's using right now to monitor drug use in the community is the testing of wastewater for things like cocaine, methamphetamine, and of course, fentanyl. >> they say any spikes in those drugs could lead to another alert, like this one in san rafael, zac sos ktvuúfox two news. thank you zach. >> those san francisco reports

its department of public health's updated guidanceúon sexually transmitted infections has reduced the number of cases. now, the city's health department became the first in the country more to recommend the antibiotic doxycycline as a prevention method for stds in gay and bisexual men. a health department analysis found doxycycline has reduced cases of chlamydia and syphilis by 50% in that population. but researchers found the treatment did not drive down cases of gonorrhea for all right. let's check in with steve paulson still keeping an eye on some lingering showers . it's a little bit. >> they're out there. most of it's so far to the north here. it's not a big system. will be with us today and tomorrow. so more show than go. but it does look warmer, especially if you head towards san jose south. maybe get some mid 60s there, but there's still some light rain to the north. san jose, sot rain south breeze in advance of it. not strong, but it's a south wind for most. it will turn southerly and you can see

according to adams fact, which tracks political spending more than $65 million has been spent on ads so far. the most expensive senate campaign in california history. ñ> governor newsom made a stop at a san francisco union hall to gather support for the yes on proposition one campaign. the governor was joined by mayor london breed, sacramento mayor darrell steinberg, and a coalition of mental health workers, doctors and firefighters. if approved, prop one would allow the state to borrow $6.4 billion. the money would be used to build mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities, and supportive housing for people who are unhoused. governor newsom says it has bipartisan support in the state legislature . >> we are in a position we haven't been in 50 years to address this crisis. that's why it's so important in this momeno not just assert ourselves, but to advance a paradigm which i think meets this moment in a

almost over the clear front runners, donald trump and president biden. so people might feel like their vote really doesn't count in that aspect. but there are still a lot of other races also, historically t of older voters that show up for days like today, but there are a splot of important local issuesn the ballot that could get people to turn out as well. we've been taking a look at voter turnout all over the bay area yesterday. there was a line of cars in alameda with people dropping off their ballots, and voters in san francisco. preferred going to drop their ballots at city hall. so they could ask questions if needed. but a large percentage of voters choose to vote before today, i went around our building a few weeks ago to make and i had registration cards in case they weren't. >> i knocked on doors today to

the sonoma county da's office investigating yesterday's deadly shoot out between a suspect and four sheriff's deputies. now authorities have not released the name of the suspect, but candles were placed to mark the spot where he died. deputies rushed to reports of a man waving a rifle at a business in west santa rosa. that's a combined restaurant and a nightclub. the man took off when law enforcement arrived, and later a deputy yelled into his radio that the suspect was shooting at him. more shots were exchanged. the suspect took off again. the chase finally ended when he crashed and he died.
