fremont police are telling people to stay away from an area due to an shootout between two vehicles. we sent skyfox over the intersection of stevenson boulevard and alba street. this is very close to interstate 880. at this not anyone was injured. reports say at least one person was shot after people in these two vehicles exchanged gunfire. for now, there is one of the cars still left at the scene here. that vehicle has a number of bullet holes in it. police there as well will bring you more information on this breaking news as soon as we get it in fremont. meanwhile, today is election day campaign workers in san francisco are out urging people to vote in favor of severalúlocal measures on that ballot. ktvu allie rasmus explains someúof the issues at stake here and what some voters are struggling with. continue to do everything you can to get out there to talk to voters in the west portal neighborhood of san francisco, campaign workers set up outside a corner coffee shop encouraging san francisco voters to support three measures, in

particular measures c, e and f. because i put them on theer ballot, and i also put proposition a on the ballot, which is for affordable housing measure c would eliminate the real estate transfer tax for developers who convert commercial buildings into housing, measure e would authorize the city to install public surveillance cameras and give more flexibility to use drones, facial recognition technology and chase people suspected of committing violent crimes. >> measure f requires people on publicúassistance in san francisco to go through regular drug screening tests and get substance abuse treatment. >ñ we have done polling on both the e and f, the public safety measure, um, are both polling te measures represent a change in how san francisco approaches the issues of crime and drug use. >> we've done a lot ofúgreat work around criminal justice reforms, but we also want accountability. >> not everyone agrees there are groups actively campaigning

against those three measures. >> there have been no evidence to any component of proposition e that would actually improve the safety of our communities. it won't prevent violence or solve homicides. >> some voters were conflicted to the one about surveillance. >> i had a lot of challenge with, um, i want to say publicly what i did, but i thought that was a really difficult issue for me. i think there's a sea change in how the administration is handling it. >> um, i think this is a swing towards the center, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. >> san francisco's elections director said as of yesterday, voter turnout in san francisco was around 70. but he expects that number to go up above 40% in line with what it was during the last presidential primary election says. what most people end up doing is filling out their mail in ballots and then dropping them off at a designated drop box the day of the election. you could do that. you could also vote in person before 8:00 this evening, or you can mail your mail in ballot still today, it

>> counties have 28 days to complete the official tabulation process. mail-in ballots will still be counted if they're postmarked by tonight, and they've arrived no later than one week from today. signatures on the ballots also have to be verified. officials must make sure the number of votes aligns with the number of ballots from each voting location. counties will also randomly ballots to c. >> on this election day. there are new concerns about and the role it could play in the process, and possibly even disrupting it back in january, a faked version of president biden's voice was used in a january robocall to deter voting in new hampshire's primary. after that, the us federal communications commission made it illegal to use ai generated voices for unsolicited robocalls , with the agency saying the tech could be used to misinform voters. now, early on mornings on two, we spoke with an internet security expert about the risk of artificial intelligence in elections. >> we do anticipate that generative ai certainly has the potential to increase misinformation, campaign gains.

crimes during the october 7th attacks. >> there are also reports that it could be continuing with some alleging widespread mistreatment of captives still being held by the militants, inhuman and degrading treatment has been committed against captives and we also have reasonable grounds to believe that such violence may still be ongoing. the un is stressing that this report is preliminary and the true extent of the sexual violence perpetrated by hamas will take years to investigate. still, israeli officials are hoping this goes a long way toward disproving skeptics who see israel as an aggressor. there's a big denial in the world that sexual violence was used as a weapon of war, and this is the first time the big wide world is seeing that this is a fact, a horrific, horrible fact. meanwhile, the situation in gaza continues to deteriorate. on tuesday, the us conducted its second airdrop over the territory, delivering 36,000 meal equivalents. but it's not enough, and diplomats say only a new ceasefire deal can guarantee enough aid gets in to avoid mass

consumer financial protection bureau says right now, a credit card late fees averaged $32. the bureau says more than 45 million people are charged late fees on credit cards every year. the banking industry slammed the new regulations, saying it will hurt consumers ultimately by leading more people to pay their bills late, damaging their credit scores. us chamber of commerce says it will file a lawsuit to prevent the regulation from taking effect. bitcoin briefly hit an all time high this morning, according to coin market cap, the cryptocurrency surpassed $68,800, just above bitcoin's previous record set in november of 2021. this price is now up almost 200% from one year ago. it's been increasing over recent months following regulatory approval of spot bitcoin exchange traded funds, or efts, earlier this year. >> many women are praising the news that the country's first ever over-the-counter birth control pill is now shipping to retailers. oh pill will be sold online and at drugstores, convenience stores, supermarkets as well. ktvu south bay reporter lamonica peters reports.

ferries today,úor if you took one of their ferries, you've received one of these i voted stickers. officials say they handed them out at the downtown san franciscoúand south san franciscoúterminals until 930 this morning. >> santa rosa police and the investigating a deadly shootout between a man and four sheriff's deputies. candles marked the spot where the man died. authorities have yet to release when deputies responded to at a restaurant and nightclub in west santa rosa. he took off when law enforcement arrived. later, a deputy yelled into his radio that a man was shooting at him. two sides exchanged gunfire, then the man took off again. the chase when he crashed and died. it's not clear, the man died. >> our put together the timeline of events, to include the reason engage ine actions he did for deputies were hurt in this incident. >> one has a critical head injury, another was shot in the leg and is recovering. the sheriff's department says it will release the body camera video at a later date. police in

east palo alto are looking for help from the community to try to identify the person behind a stabbing last month. now what 8e weekend, police department says because it doesn't have a suspect identified, they need more information released. the surveillance video showing a whitec suv that stopped and the person inside likely saw the attack. police want whoever was in the suv to contact them because they're likely a witness. >> a proposed law would continue to fund california's missing persons dna program. state attorney general rob bonta said the program is set to lose its funding this year due to a sunset clause, but a new bill introduced by assemblyc member stephanie nguyen of elk grove would ensure that funding ist& permanent. bonta says the program 2000 missing people since it was established back in 2001. >> certainly, there's nothing celebratory about this work, but the fact that we've identified over 2000úmissing persons is meaningful. it's a reminder of what we can accomplish for the people of california when we have the appropriate resources.
