want movement on gaza aid and reproductive rights, and republicans who want movement on the border issues. >> you can expect biden spstrive for a bipartisan tone n capitol hill. the stakes will be high for president biden's state of the union address this year. the speech coming right after super tuesday, which made clear november will be a rematch of president biden and forme president trump. >> it's an opportunity to get the attention of a big share of the country, which, you know, doesn't happen that often, eric schickler is co-director of the uc berkeley institute of governmental studies. >> he says with a tight reelection race, president biden likely will use the speech to highlight his accomplishments and goals of lowering health care costs, defending reproductive rights, supporting ukraine and getting humanitarian relief in the gaza conflict. he also will likely tout the economy and lower inflation. >> he's certainly going to try to convey the this sense of himself as somebody who is willing to work across the aisle, who's not a sharp

ideologue and is also, you know, committed to norms of democracy. i feel like progressively less engaged, which is probably terrible in berkeley, some young voters said this year's matchup hasn't inspired them so far, and it feels different from 2020n >> i definitely feel like the situation in the middle east is a huge issue for me. in fact, i& think this is probably the first time i feel like i might actually lean towards being a single issue voter. >> some bay area lawmakers say they're hoping the speech emphasizes the bipartisan efforts to get things done in congress. >> we got the first group of appropriations bills passed. i had a short conversation with speaker johnson yesterday. um, so i do i'm cautiously optimistic. >> many lawmakers have invited guests who arrived in d.c. wednesday hoping to highlight issues important to californians. >> it is very important to me because that means that farm workers are the in the minds of our legislators. um, we need to remember, farm workers are the people thatúput food on our table.

republican nomination. >> i am filled with the gratitude for the outpouring of support we've received from all across our great country. but the time has now come to suspend my campaign. >> in her speech today, haley did not specifically endorse donald trump, but said donald trump would have to work hard to win over her supporters. president biden also moving closer to clinching the democratic nomination. so far, he has secured more than 1500 delegates now to the biggest race in california. >> last night, the u.s. senate race, it was called. soon after the polls closed, democrat adam schiff and republican steve garvey will face off in the november general election. the winner will take the open seat, long held by the late senator dianne feinstein. garvey is aware of the challenges ahead. the last u.s. senate in california, pete wilson in 1988. registered democrats outnumber republicans right now 2 to 1, and schiff has a large

war chest, political analysts say. garvey, though the former los angeles dodger, will continue to be asked if he supports donald trump. >> he's going to have to find a place to do more than just slap a couple of singles. he's going to have to bang one off the wall. let's see if he can do that, because now it's a different race. essentially, rue garvey's campaign in the top two primary system. now steve garvey has to find his own voice regardless of who wins in november. >> we now know california will not have a female senator for the first time since 1992. >> okay, now to district 16. an update on that race to take over the seat of congresswoman anna eshoo, who is retiring after serving for 32 years. former san jose mayor sam liccardo is in the lead with santa clara county supervisor joe simitian and evan low. assemblyman evan low coming in behind just a couple thousand votes away from one another. no matter who wins, the district 16 race will result in a democrat

elected to that seat. today. we heard from the top candidates about how it feels to be a candidate running in such a close race. >> it's exciting that we've seen 11 candidates answering the call for service running for congress, especially in a time >> there are many, uh, talented- and experienced candidates in this race, uh, with a lot of resources to deploy. and we got a competitive race not once, not twice, but three times. >> we've got a pretty clear indication. and as i say again this afternoon at 5:00, the margin continues to grow. >> nearly 210,000 people cast yesterday. and the registrar of voters says it will be counting ballots for several more days. and a reminder that you can find real time election results for national and local races on our website. it's all at ktvu .com. >> santa rosa police are investigating the death of the mother and her young son. police received a call about 750 this morning about two people possibly dead inside an

apartment on summerfield road, right near howarth court. authorities say the woman's son is approximately ten years old. the cause of death is now under investigation and the victim's names are not being released at this time. police say there is no known threat to public safety in the area. grief stricken family and friends now revealing the identity of a pinole mother killed in her home last month. the family says she was shot right in front of her little boy, as ktvu is. joey horta reports her ex-boyfriend has now been charged with homicide. a room. >> friends and family are mourning the loss of brittany. >> ligdus life will never be the same. >> pinole police say the 30 year old was shot and killed on the morning of february 16th inside her basement apartment on summit drive. ligdus own ex-boyfriend and the father of her son, 36 year old jeffrey kendall, is identified by pinole according e family, she called police when he broke into her home. she hid

in the laundry room with her four year old son, liam, and was shot in the head right in front of the little boy. according to her aunt, nancy o'neil. >> he keeps saying, mommy's dead, mommy's dead. we replay it in our head over and over and over every day, kendall is seen on a neighbor's doorbell camera running down the street moments after the shooting. >> late that night, chp officers would arrest him in santa cruz. >> i knew something was wrong. >> cassandra santiago quickly became close friends with ligdus. when the two moms went back to school to study nursing at diablo valley college, she had so much going for her. ligdus known for helping other students. she recalls the last text she received from her friend days before the regarding the couple's relationship being on the rocks& she said to me, i'm doing okayc. >> um, but it's really hard. he's very unpredictable right now. >> santiago says her friend was

saw. >> bellevue police say the pilot and passenger were able to safely exit the plane on their own. thec ntsb will now takec or that investigation. >> los angeles police are warning homeowners about a trick used by tech savvy burglars to disable security cameras. police say there's been multiple reports here of burglars using a device to block the wi fi signal emitted by security systems, making them ineffective. this wireless cameras and alarmects systems. lapd recommending people shift from wireless to wired security systems and keep valuables locked away. >> okay, now on to las vegas. the to be shut down today. the culprit, a rare bird, as wildlife officials attempted to rescue a yellow billed loon that landed in the fountain there. officials say the young loon likely flew off of its migration path, and it's just one of the ten rarest birds that regularly breed on the mainland u.s. it's unclear if it's still hiding

returned to the airport after taking off. no one on board was hurt. the airline said. passengers were able to board a new flight later that same evening. >> boeing is under more scrutiny two months after a door plug on one of its jets flew off mid-air during an alaska airlines flight. the chair of the ntsb accused boeing of withholding information from investigators at a senate hearing today. the chair told lawmakersúthe company is refusing to share records indicating who worked on the door plug that flew off the 737 max nine in january. despite repeated requests, she said it's unclear if boeing even kept records of the repair. >> it's absurd that two months later we don't have that. we know for a fact that there is a team that deals with the doors in renton, there's an entire team of 25 people in a manager. >> today's hearing comes after the faa gave boeing 90 days to respond to quality control issues raised by the agency. in

a heck of a nice day. a little cloudy, but boy, you get under those showers in the east bay. out by san ramon and clayton and down by saratoga and parts of san jose. it was just coming down and then other places awaye got up to three quarters of an inch in some places, which is

rainfall rates within those cells, thunder and lightning, as you know, that has died down. we're into a position now where the high pressure is taking charge. this is a sweeping radar. no green basically high pressure is building in. and when that happens this time of year, you get valley fog almost almost every time. and so it doesn't mean it's going to be widespread, but it will be patchy in the morning hours. the system is south now. it's more towards southern california and los angeles. you can see that's where it was today. and now it's kind of going to shift off. it's in southern california, but it boots out and goes out towards the plains. as we get into this friday or thursday, friday and even a little bit into saturday. but it's going to be a good 48 hours of ridgingl and then it starts to break down a little bit on the weekend, which, with a chance of a few sprinkles. but again, the big takeaway here is none of these are direct hits. they're all sort of slide to the south, slide to the north, slide. they're kind of missing us. not like last week or the week before. the week before when they were dead. dead dead on. these are just kind of bits and pieces of weather systems.
