ron hassner started a lock in inside of his office here at cal berkeley last week. he says it's his way of persuading the university to do more to protect jewish students and peopleúon campus lock in at 6 p.m. on thursday, and he says he will stay here until the campus takes the necessary steps to prevent violence against students. >> my office has been like a train station with students in and out by the many dozens all day long. they all come with tremendous amounts of food because they want to support me in the only way they can. >> normal day of the jewish student hassner says jewish students have been targeted on campus since the start of the israel-hamas war. >> hausner hopes his lock in will let jewish students know they are not alone. >> the other reason was to signal to jewish students on the berkeley campus that there is a faculty member who thinks about

them, who cares about them greatly, and who's losing sleep over them. >> professor hassner isn't the only one protesting treatment of the jewish community on campus at cal. this week, a group of jewish students, alumni and faculty planned to rally at cal on monday over what they say is a quote, an increasingly hostile, unquote, place for university is selective when applying its policies to groups of protesters. gate has been bld by pro-palestine protesters for weeks without repercussions from the university. now that march is set to begin tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. outside zellerbach playhouse, we have reached out to cal berkeley for comment on this situation. we have not yet heard back. live in berkeley. tori tori, thank you for that. organizers of the effort to recall oakland mayor shang tao sayútheir effort to remove her from office is rapidly picking up steaml and supporters of than

downtown oakland that housed a once popular vietnamese restaurant. that restaurant is now closed due in part to street crime. the retired alameda county judge leading the recall effort blames mayor tao for the rising crime in the city. >> it didn't inherit all of these problems. she caused a number of problems. people who say, give her more time, more time to do what she has ruined our city organizers must get at least 10% of oakland's registered voters to sign a petition by july. >> they are now confident they will get those required signatures several months ahead of that deadline to qualify for that upcoming november ballot, mayor tao has sent ktvu news this statement in response to the recall effort. it reads, my focus is fighting for a safer, more affordable and more prosperous oakland. i ask all oaklanders to help me achieve that vision with hope and collaboration, and push aside the fear and division and let's

bring our community together to fight for the city we'd love. >> now to an update on a story we brought you here on mornings on two. the bay point neighborhood that was on lockdown 24 hours ago is all cleared out. the contra costa county sheriff's office says one victim was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. the standoff lasted for about nine hours before the armed suspect, who barricaded himself, was taken into custody. dublin police, meanwhile, said 37 year-old man considered armed and dangerous, is now in custody on suspicion of domestic violence among other charges. the man tracy and was later seen driving in livermore inúdublin. police say he pulled over but refused to cooperate and rammed the patrol cars to get away, eventually barricaded himself inside his car in a parking lot near dublin boulevard and tassajara road. he was arrested after a two hour standoff. police say at one point, the man

the hospital for treatment. >> the owner of a gift shop is upset after on camera stealing from her store in the middle of the day. the owner of postscript in san francisco is lower peck heights neighborhood says her store andl items. owner telling ktvu that this theft is very disheartening and that they have had to channel all their attention to theft prevention, brainstorming rather than serving their customers. two women are in custody for stealing almost $3,000 of luxury accessories from the vacaville premium outlets. police confirm they arrested 36 year old margarita bravo, 18 year old allison rodriguez, on friday for felony grand theft. they allegedly stole these eight wallets andúa bag from the coach store. police believe they were also boosting at a second store. a fairfield school resource officer is in jail this morning after investigators say he exchanged inappropriate text messages with

two underage students. >> officer james lewis was booked into solano county jail yesterday morning. the 33 year old is now on paidúleave from his job as a resource officer at rodriguez high school. he was booked on suspicion of obscene sending, rather obscene material to a minor, contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime and possession of child. san francisco congresswoman nancy pelosi says that the city will receive more than $12 million in federal funding for community projects. some oft& those projects include the homeless prenatal program. it will receive more than $1.4 million for affordable housing for families. the department of homelessness and supportive housing is getting more than $1 million. the glide foundation, zuckerberg general hospital and ucsf are also expected to receive funding. congresswoman pelosi saying in part thanks to the leadership of house democrats, this year's government funding package puts people over politics by

across america and rejectingst- extreme republican cuts and policies. >> scientists are one step closer to launching hypersonic speed travel. us aerospace company stratolaunch conducted its first powered test flight of an unmanned vehicle for hypersonic research companies. talon a one vehicle, reached speeds of mach five, which is five times the speed of sound that puts it at the range of 3800mph. the talon descended into the ocean as planned. future aircraft missions will be able to land on runways. us justice department has reportedly launched a criminal investigation into the door panel that blew out of that alaska airlines jetliner. the wall street journal reports. federal investigators have interviewed crew members and passengers who were on board that flight back in january, the paper says they have been told they are potential victims of alleged criminal negligence. the

boeing 737 was on a flight at a portland to southern california when that door panel blew off in spmid-air. there were no, thankfully,c any injuries. plans to build a 65 story skyscraper featuring what looks like a floating cube in san the plan was to construct the building at sixth and folsom streets. it would have replaced an aging three story office building. their new building, designed to hold more than 700 rental apartments, said he's planning department has been reviewing plans for more than two years. it says the developer has requested to retract its building permit. so far, no reason has been given for that retraction. >> just ahead this morning, president biden drops a new campaign million ad is targeting voters in major battleground states and surprising discoveries inside san francisco's castro theater during renovation work. >> we're going to take you on a tour of that historic theater to show you what's been done so far

look inside the theater and has details on this ongoing project. >> it's science and it's art. >> san francisco's historic castro theater is undergoing the first phase of restoration. the frame of the movie screen now exposed. there is scaffolding from floor to ceiling, blending the old with the new andt& revealing the stories that are trying to get out. stories that jeff green, a restoration expert, will help reveal during the work to preserve the art in the original architecture by timothy pflueger, who designed the theater, green brought us 35ft up a scaffolding to get a close up look at the condition of the ceiling and walls. we cleaned this fellow today. the first phase involves assessing and peeling back the layers of dirt and nicotine from years of people smoking. to show the original artwork. there are some surprises. >> there's two huge dragons here. there's a circular dragons in every single one of these panels. >> an asian motif blended with

securities and exchange commission. microsoftt& acknowledges that in recent weeks, the hackers use stolen information to access the company's source code and internal systems. once a hacker has access to the source code, they can attack other systems. microsoft first discovered the breach in january. the full extent of this breach is not known, but it's believed to be from russian hackers. each year, millions of people fall prey to cyber stalking. they get harassed, threatened or tracked down through online accounts. is a nightmare, and it happenst- 7.5 million people fall victim to cyber stalking. stalkers use online sites and apps to track, harass, or threaten someone with physical harm. they may even

reveal their personal information. >> we'll figure out where they're spending time media sites, what email applications they use, and they'll either create new online accounts, write to target them, or they'll gain access to the existing accounts, and reports show 61% of cyber stalkers use tools, including smartphones, phones, text messages, and email. sp>> 10% use malware or phishing to hack into those victims accounts, and 67% of victims actually know their stalker. well, here are some steps to protectúyourself from cyber stalking. first, use strong passwords or use a password manager, which constantly changes them. use multifactor authentication on all of your accounts. don't post personal information. turn over or turn off location tracking on your phone and social media accounts, and regularly scan your device for spyware or malware.

says the university isn't doing enough to fight anti semitism and keep jewish people safe on campus. ktvu tori gaines live from berkeley now with those details. tori. good morning. >> good morning joey. professor ron julie haener started a lock in last week here at cal berkeley and he says it's his way of persuading the university to do more to keep the jewish community here on campus safe. julie haener started his lock in at 6 p.m. on thursday, and he says he will stay there until the campus takes the necessary steps to prevent violence against students. >> jewish students on the berkeley campus have had to suffer a good deal of harassment , there's been a blockade in the middle of campus, and, the, the students who are sort of guarding that blockade, are targeting jewish students specifically, sort of threatening them, intimidating them.

some of the major battleground states. >> seniors now to the middle east. hope fading that a cease fire agreement will be reached between israel and hamas before the start of the islamic holy month of ramadan. meantime palestinians in gaza city rushed to collect food shipments in an airdrop. these deliveries here are from a coalition of nations, including the u.s, but it's nowhere near what they need to prevent widespread starvation and some are complaining that some of these packages ended up falling into the ocean. the airdrops are one of the few ways to get aid to those in need. israel is not allowing deliveriesúof food, water, medicine or other supplies from all of its borders except from the south of egypt. also in israel, clashes broke out between security forces and demonstrators in tel aviv yesterday. hundreds took to the streets to protest the way israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is handling the war against hamas. demonstrators are demanding a cease fire and the release of hostages being held

by hamas in gaza and now to los angeles, where police are beefing up security for the academy awards. today, authorities are bracing for potential protests over the violence in gaza. the new times reports. lapd is preparing , rather, for at least one group that wants to interfere with the ceremony. police say if those groups do show up, they'll coordinate with them to make sure they can express their first amendment rights while keeping the public safe. >> a number of female veteran suicides is staggering, especially when compared to their male and civilian counterparts. fox news correspondent alexandria hoff has details of a new report on how women, veterans are in dire need of mental health and suicide prevention support they have earned after putting their lives on the line to protect our country. >> women are the fastest growing demographic of veterans, but sadly, female veterans are dying by suicide at an alarming rate,

skewed by the chp friday. the california highway patrol was called to a man suffering from a medical emergency near fort ross along the sonoma county coastline. chp flew its helicopter to the scene where it found the man at the bottom of a 1000 foot ravine. officers loweredúa crew member down to the man, where they placed him in a harness before bringing him back up to that aircraft. chp says they then flew that man to another awaiting helicopter before he finally got to a hospital. right now, the man's condition is unknown. chp is adding some new officers to its ranks. 100 new cadets graduating from that patrol's academy. friday's graduation ceremony marking over six months of

risks and benefits. but in general, we think a modest amount of caffeine intake is safe for the vast majority of people. >> what are the downsides to drinking too much caffeine? >> well, some people are just a little bit sensitive to caffeine, so it's not that it's causing harm to their health, but they might feel a little jittery or nervous or have, you know, some challenges with, you know, stomach upset. but, you know, the, the vast majority of people, the biggest downside is sleep disruption. so keeping them up at night, disrupting their sleep cycles. >> so when you get up but we get up early obviously,úand the first thing you want to do is grab that cup of coffee. should you wait a little bit, maybe, maybe a bowl of cereal, a little something and enjoy your coffee a little bit later? because if it's the very first thing that goes in, is that a bad thing? >> not necessarily. it's probably more important to avoid it later in the day, because that's really when it's going to have the biggest impact on your sleep. >> how about the benefits? what do we benefit from, consuming caffeine. >> so it's interesting. there are some benefits. you know, the everybody knows about the kind

ofústimulant effects of caffeine. so people can be more alert and more able to concentrate more productive at work. which is great. and there's also some potential health benefits related to it. we know that there are potentially reduced risks of long terme health complications like diabetes, parkinson's disease and certain cancers with people who drink caffeine, particularly if they're taking it in as coffee and tea, because those have some additional health benefits. >> it's one cup a day, okay, pretty much one cup a day is okay for the vast majority of people. >> yeah, even a little bit more is probably okay. >> how much is too much? >>úso most of our guidelines will say that for adults, up to 400mg per day is probably safe. so that's for normal brewed cups of coffee on average. >> i got some work to do. yeah. >> you know, some of the, you but that's generally theced bit- threshold that we think of as safe for adults. >> and it comes from other way, i mean tea obviously and coffee. but energy drinks, it's probably in our food too. right. it can be.

>> yeah. so it's there's a lot of hidden sources of, of caffeine. so of course tea and coffee, energy drinks, soft drinks, chocolate contains caffeine. the darker the more the more caffeine it will have lots of supplements and even some medications. even lip balm can have caffeine now. >> really? right? okay that i did not know. >> can you build immunity if you're a big coffee achiever and you know, never miss a starbucks and know where every coffee shop in the world is, can you build immunity to it where two is not enough and, well, people do build a tolerance to it. >> so once you've been consuming spit on a daily basis for some period of time, then oftentimes you need a little bit just to kind of get back to your normal state. so it isúit is possible to build that sort of tolerance. >> what if you want to kick the habit? maybe you drink it a little too shaky in the morning. drink a little water with it as well. but what if you want to just get it out of your diet? how do you do it? >> it's probably best to taper down slowlyn most people are
