a marathon going on in oakland this morning. it is a good morning for a run. take a look at theúcamera here, the live shot there showing you we have low clouds and fog. joining us this morning. i will have a look at the current conditions and what you can expect for the afternoon as well the week >> thank you. san francisco's west portal community mourning the loss of an adult and child hit by a car while sitting at a bus stop yesterday. ktvu samantha quintana live at the know so far about that tragedy.- amanda, good morning. >> good morning. yes the west portal neighborhood, they're still caution tape here. and you can see just pieces of this bus stop broken into many, many pieces here. the cones. clearly hit stop here. and there were four.

>> all right, clearly, hearing amanda, but we will make sure we get that audio fixed and check back in with her san francisco. this morning, where an adult and child were hit and spkilled at a bus stop. >ñ for now, 680 remains closed this morning, but crews expect to have it reopened by tomorrow morning. new pictures from caltrans posted on x show. crews hard at work. caltrans saying it's a four step process. workers are first demolishingt& the deterior pavement, then laying down asphalt, putting down what they call a reinforcement material, and then finally laying down concrete. it's all happening southbound 680 between the 580 and road. te freeway shut friday night. there are several detours you can take, but most will use highway 84 or 5 8p to 880 surrounding surface streets will also be busier were out watchine impact and found slow and steady to avoid the work site, caltrans says. the closure this weekend

is inconvenient, but says it'súa lot more effective and efficient. the alternative option would have been three months of night closures. at last check that road work is on schedule and these newly paved roads are set to reopen at 4 a.m. tomorrow. >> we've learnedúmore about the two men involved in a shootout with police late friday night in benicia. investigators say police tried to pull over two men from vallejo after a license plate reader tagged it as part of a suspected armed robbery. police say the suspects inside the car refused to stop, and that led to a chase that went on to interstate 780, in benicia. the vehicle eventually crashed and one suspect was immediately taken into custody. however, a second suspect ran and police say he shot at officers. those officers returned fire. no one was hit by the gunfire and that second suspect was taken into expected to face attempted murder charges. an investigation this morning is underway into a deadly crash in the south bay. the chp says a male pedestrian was struck and killed by a car late friday night on the bird

avenue off ramp of interstate 280. the driver, only identified as a 27 year old man from san jose, stayed at the scene. he was charges. >> 70 for your time this morning. police in oakland are investigating an attempted bank robbery downtown. a car smashed into a window at the city national bank at 12th and broadway around 6:00 yesterday morning. oakland police say the glass shattered, though nobody was able to get inside. officers say they believe 4 or 5 people all of those got there one time. in coma. police released this photo of a woman who they say stole more than $3,600 worth of merchandise. the alleged burglary happened on the morning of march 4th at a store on coloma boulevard. police say the car the suspect fled in is not known at this time. but if you recognize the woman, you're asked to give the police department a call. >> another oakland business is closing after owners say it was burglarized multiple times. oakland's roasted and raw, a black owned vegan on its

stop yesterday. >> we'll head back out with amaa quintana, who has more details about the crash andúwhat we know so far about that tragedy. amanda >> yeah, well, james, there is still a lot of debris here from that bus stop here. still caution tape, a lot of pieces of the bus stop. clearly, the car was coming in fast because it is just a lot a lot of damage here. we knowúthat there were four people on the bus stop when the car crashed into it. an adult and a child here at the scenen three others were sent to the hospitall including the driver. we're working to get an update on their conditions. this happened on yolo street and lenox way just after noon yesterday. >> okay, again, our technical spproblems continue, but we will continue to try to fix those and we'll goúback to amanda as soon as we can. well, the city of san jose has lost a critical court battle in its efforts to revamp the historic saint james park. the city wants to turn that park into a major event venue and has spent millions on plans. but the

will be banned at a beach along the central coast because people aren't cleaning up after themselves, the california coastal commission announced last week. the ban applied to the san carpoforo beach in san luis obispo county. officials say more trash, more debris and even human waste at the site, likely because the beach doesn't have restrooms. day allowed as the u.s. forest service tries to reset conditions along the shore. theúforest serviceúis constructing a massive new multi-purpose trail in the sierra near lake tahoe. the service is calling it the pines to mines trail, and says the 72. pines to mines will include around 50 miles of existing trail, with 22 miles of new trail planned to begin construction later will boast miles of stunning views sppast remote lakes and canyons, as well as meadows. and if you have a perfect day like today, that would be a nice thing to

many spots it did begin to cool down. we're going to see the tht again, the onshore winds. we haa little bit of fog out there. visibility down to a quarter mile over santa rosa, the central and south bay, not too bad, but just a little bit of patchy fog to go along with the low clouds. this morning.úand our temperatures are up in some areas and down in others. sfo is cooler by five degrees in the north bay, petaluma up by fivec degrees and likely to do with some of that cloud cover out there. that helps to insulate us a little bit during the overnight hours and help with that cooling. still a chilly 43. in livermore, we have lowst- 50s in along the east bay shore, oakland and hayward for the afternoon above average, 65 for san francisco. yesterday it was 6972. in napa for the inner eastúbay will go 73. in concord. a better look at what we can expect for the week ahead, including the first day of spring coming up in the extended forecast. >> looking forward to it, rosemary. thank you. csu receives millions of dollars in

since resumed. mayor london breed visited the scene shortly after the crash, and in a statement called it heartbreaking, saying the focus is now on the victims for those, i have children myself and our first responders do, you know, it hits everybody at home. >> san francisco fire department responding to the scene. this area usually does have a lot of pedestrians, and it's been especially busy with the saint celebrations. people around the world, ofúcourse, celebrating saint day on this march 17th and new figures from the u.s. census bureau indicate you will be seeing plenty ofc people wearing green today in california. it found this state is home to more than 2.2 million people who have direct tiesúto ireland. that's more than any other state in the country. california narrowly edged out new york, and the number of people who say they have some irish roots. >> all right. and saint patrick's day celebrations are in full swing once again this year. and what a better place to

celebrate than in ireland itself . let's take you there to the heart of it all, because travelzoo's senior editor gabe sadlier always very lucky. always. in dublin, ireland, it seems during saint patrick's day he is along the route of one of the largestc saint patrick's day spparades in the world. gabe its a busy time out there.úyou are people wanting to celebrate this day. no doubt about that. >> claudine. i think that the official tally has yet to come, but there are forecasting about 650,000 people that who lined the streets here of dublin to check out what is the national saint patrick's day parade here case, if we hit 650,000, that will set a record that will be the biggest at dublin saint patrick's day parade ever. this is only the second largest, second only to the one they throw out there in new york city. but what's great about this one, claudine, is that it is a global phenomenon. i've met people from all over the usa and

of course great britain, italy, spain, india. i mean the number of people who come here from outside is quite phenomenal. a lot of first timers, and these to are going to make this aoing thing, you knowl their be on their to do list here for years to come. >> yeah, it sounds awesome. can you talk about because i know you've been there before, the energy and what you know when you're talking come from the usy all over the world, why they come here? i mean, certainly it looks like a good time. 650,000. those are your, i'm sure, closest friends. gabe >> they've become my closest friends, for sure. it's just after 2 p.m. out here in dublin. so the parade just now wrapping up, it started at high noon and yeah, like you guys mentioned it, i mean, this the emotional connection between the us and ireland is almost palpable. about 40 million americans in heritage, 70 million around the- world. so yeah, the idea that saint patrick's day now becomes a great excuse to come out out here, celebrate the national

holiday, celebrate ireland's patron saint. but for a lot of folks i've met here, they will stick around. they'll spend thec rest of the week now traveling across to northern ireland, west to the wild, atlantic way, going south, it becomes sort of an excuse to sort of be hereúfor a couple of days, tap into the energy, and rest of the country as you know, if you're there in the bay area, air lingus has that nonstop flight out of sfo to dublin, met in the thick of the action. a lot of fun. i want to show you our crane shot because we've had a beautiful camera up above showcasing downtown dublin. this been here. o'connell street, spwhich slices, just down, beautiful downtown dublin, and starting to disperse 4000 plus participants in the parade. and as street. >> that's a lot of people. you know, gabe, when you're talking

about. yes ofúcourse, if you're going to cross the pond, you really should, you know, make a week of it at least. and certainly that's a good economic boom for ireland. you talked about how some of these festivities are actually kind of new in ireland, different ways to celebrate. can you talk about what you would see don't see he? certainly we have a lot of parades here and a lot of, as you mentioned, irish heritage. what are you seeing specifically in dublin and these festivities that are unique? >> well, i think what i because this marks my 12th year. claudine actually out here for the saint patty's day parade in dublin and i've seen it certainly grow now 2020, exactly four years cancel with days to goc are coming out here. and since then, now every year since 202q, the crowds have grown. it was about 500,000 last year, 650,000 now. so partc of this is really this notion that this is now wide open to international travelers. and a great way to heritage. you know what's very popular here are some of these, genealogical opportunities here.

there's the epic museum. there's a couple of these places where you can go in search for your family crest, your roots, your, you, your heritage out here, i just found out last year that my mom is 2% irish, which makes me a little irish, too. so at thec ed of the day, it's. yeah, it's a chance to sort of, you know, prove to yourself that you felt like hey, maybe you are, in fact, and at the end rolled out. there's that pervasive hospitality, which is& always very part of. >> well, gabe, it looks like always appreciate when you check in from across the pond. and certainly on saint patrick's day. enjoy your 12th year out there. we appreciate it. you got it, claudine. when you get back, look at that. >> you see a suit? >> it's a green suit.ct& >> that green. but with the four leaf doesngtt& mess around. >> well done. does not mess around. he is a veteran of the celebration years. >> so my question for both you, claudine, and for you, rosemary,

when you're thinking about 650,000úpeopleúthat are going to be there, would youc do it? yes >> but isn't that too many at some point, you know, isn't that just kind ofl well, i think uncomfortable. >> so here's what i think. i wouldn't do it if it was here. right. because it feels like a really, you know, big event to like cover. we would probably cover it as we think about work. of work. it's a lot.hat's a lot >> but i think when you make a trip like your mindset is, all right, i'm going to dive in deep there. i'm going to stay close to wherever. and you plan it, you invest in it, and then you just reallyúsink into it. you're orl you know, anything else.c yu are like, i'm going to fly across the pond. going to sit in. >> i guess it's different if your house is crowded versus if someone else. yeah, sure. yeah. don't have to stay tooúlong. you just go, you experience it and get a guinness, call it a day. kind of like going jazz fest. le locals there will say come a week ahead of the main event or

>> amanda thank you. we know a man is in custody accused of shooting and killing another man in east oakland. police say they were called to the scene friday night at 102nd avenue and gaffigan. gaffigan street, that's just one block off international boulevard. there they found a man who had been shot. they say he died arrest te suspect. they haven'tútold us who that suspect is, only that he is an oakland resident. police another shooting, this one at international boulevard andt& eighth avenue, a few blocks south of lake merritt. they say they were called to a possible shooting there just before 1:00 yesterday morning. video shows officers inspecting a black suv parked in the middle of the street with its doors open. they say they didn't find any victims at the scene, but someone with a gunshot wound did show up to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. police ask anyone with information to give them a call. >> the people living in their rvs on the top of the hill in san francisco are being told tos parked in the city's bernal

heights neighborhood a safety concern and a public health hazard. san francisco's parking rules ban any vehicle from remaining on a city street for more than 72 hours. howeverf one man who is being told to move says hisúrv is his home and he has nowhere else to go. >> i didn't plan on living here. i just, lost my job a half ago,i couldn't find ac place that i could afford. >> san francisco's coalition on homelessness as the rvs are keeping people from living on the streets, however, the city is sticking with its deadline for all rvs to leave bernal heights by march 28th, and business owners in oakland are ready to take drastic action in response to the criminals who continue to target their shops and restaurants. the manor manager of sybil's pizza in the diamond district says business isúdown 20. he and others like him want to consider withholding taxesúunless the city bolsters its efforts to crack down on crime that has been plaguing the

town. >> we're scared of our lives now. diamondc district is not te same as back in the years that i have been working. >> the owner of diamond cafe shared this surveillance video one of four times. he says his restaurant has been burglarized. he's on board with the idea as crime. he says, is costing him. >> i feel like we need to start somewherec it seem like it's getting worse in oakland are looking to join the effort. one woman we spoke to shared thatúshe is a small business owner and a resident, and she's frustrated. she says she can understand why diamond businesses are proposing this. >> 737 your time this morning, san francisco supervisor connie chan kickingc off her reelection campaign in the richmond district. around 200 people came out to support the launch at argonne playground. chan will be running as a progressive candidate against moderate marjan philhower, who she defeated back in 2020. it's expected to be a close election with the recent primary suggesting moderates are gaining popularity among san francisco voters.

ktvu, fox two news and a four-year time now. >> 680, of course, remains closed this morning, but crews expect to have it reopened by tomorrow morning. new pictures from caltrans posted on x show. crews hard at work. caltrans saying it's a four step process, starting with workers first demolishing the deteriorated pavementn they then laid down the asphalt and putting down what they call a reinforcement spmaterial, and then finally the concrete. it's all happening on southbound 680, between the 580 and 680 connector and koopman road. the freeway shut down friday night. there are several detours you can take, but most will probably rely on highway 84 or 5 80 to 880. surrounding surface streets will also be busier than usual. our cameras were out watching the impact and work site. caltrans says thee i- closure this weekend is inconvenient, but it says it is the most efficient. the alternative option would have been three months of nighttime closures. at last check, the road work is on schedule, and

these newly paved roads are set to open at 4 a.m. tomorrow. >> well, we have learned more about the two men involved in a shootout with police late friday night in benicia. investigators say police tried to pull over two men from vallejo after a license plateúreader tagged it as part of a suspected the susps inside of the car refused to stop and that led to aúchase that went on to interstate 780, in benicia. the vehicle eventually crashed and one suspect was immediately taken into custody. however, a second suspect ran and police say he shot at officers. those officers spreturned fire. noc one was hiy the gunfire in the taken into custody. both suspects are expected to face attempted murder charges. an investigation this morning is underway into male pedestrian was struck and- killed by a car late friday night on the bird avenue off ramp of interstate 28p. the driver only identified as a 27 year old man from san jose state at the scene and he was later arrested on dui charges. >> time now 806 police in

the loss of an adult and child hit by a car while sitting at a bus stop yesterday, ktvu is amanda quintana live at the scene of the crash this morning? with what we know about the tragedy. >> yeah, well, james still police tape here and just a lot of damage that we can car came s street, hit a pole, and you could see the signúin debris. ht pole, took that over here, and then also hit the library. that this bus stop isúin front of. and then hit the bus stop. so we know that there were four people at the bus stop here whenúthe car crashed into it. an adult and a child died here at the scene. three others were sent to the hospital, including the driver.úwe're working to get an update on their conditions. nown this happened. this is uloa street happened just after noon yesterday because of this crash, muni temporarily suspended service to the west portal

>> an investigation is underway this morning deadly crash in the south bay. the chp was sd killed by a car late friday night on the bird avenue off ramp of interstate 280. the driver only identified as a 27 year old man from san jose state at the scene, and he was later attempted bank robbery downtown. >> they say a car smashed into a window at the city national bank at 1rth andúbroadway around 6:00 yesterday. oakland police say the glass shattered, though nobody was actually able to get inside the building. officers say they believe 4 or 5 people were in the car at one time. all of those people left the scene before officers got there. down the peninsula in colma, police released this photo of a woman who they say spstole more than $3,600 worth f merchandise. the burglary happened on the morning of march 4th at a store on coloma boulevard us the car the suspect fled in is still unknown. they say if you recognize this woman, you're asked to callúthe police.

>> southbound 680 remainst& closed. this morning, but crews are expecting to have it reopened by tomorrow morning. new pictures from caltrans posted on x show. crews hard at work. caltrans says this is all a four step process. workers have to demolish the deteriorated pavement. then they have to lay down the asphalt and then put down what they call a reinforcement material. and finally, then the concrete. this is all happening on southbound 680 between the 580 and 680 connector, and koopman road. as you can see there on your screen, there's the map of the affected area. this freeway shut down friday night. there are several detours you can take, but most will use highway 84 or 5 80 to 880. surroundingúsurfacc streets, as you might imagine, will also be busier than usual. and our camera was out watching the impact found slow and steady traffic in that area as cars avoided that work site. caltrans says the closure this weekend iy more efficient. the alternative option would have been three
