police now say a third person has died after being hit by a car early saturday morning while sitting at a bus stop. it happened near muni's west portal station. investigators say a speeding suv slammed into four people who were waiting at the bus stop. one child and one adult died at the scene. a third person, a woman, died yesterday from her injuries, and police say a fourth victim, a baby, is still in the hospital being treated for life threatening injuries. >> it's such a loss. it's our community here in west portall and we know everyone, without knowing their names right now, i'm sure we know them because we sphave just suchúa beautiful grp of people. >> the driver was also injured. we have police have not said why the driver of the car lost control, but witnesses say the suv was clearly going very fast. >> when i got here, the vehicle itself, the fire hydrant, was basically in where the motor would be, and there was an infant that was laying right here. i think the deceased adult

was knocked clean across the intersection was in the street at the crosswalk over here. >> this evening at is planned af the crash to honor the victims. supervisor myrna melgar represents san francisco's west portal neighborhood, and she released a statement, my heart y shattered by the loss of life in our community. my office, along& with sfmta public works and neighbors, have already been in discussions to improve safety conditions for pedestrians and riders around the west portal station in our time is to resums morning at amador valley high school in pleasanton. >> despite a fire that damaged that school's gym. it happened last night in that 100 year old gym and the school district told the pleasantonúweekly. the fire damage is beingúexamined and investigated, but it's not expected to affect the school day. today. a new alarm system is being praised by the school

district for alerting first responders before the flames could spread. fire is still under investigation, and in berkeley, one person has been arrested, accused of a deadly stabbing. it happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue. the stabbing victim died at the scene. one suspect was detained. this was berkeley's first homicide of the year. the investigation continues into what led up to that attack. >> san francisco police have reversed course and will now release video showing what led up to the death of a woman who was pushed to the ground last year. 63 year old yanfeng wu died from her injuries last the time and investigators said it was an accident. but just last week, the person accused of pushing her, 43 year old thea hopkins, was arrested for violently assaulting a 71 year old chinese woman. that led to demands from the asian community and the city to reopen the case

from last summer. now, san francisco's chief of police in reaction to the mayor's request, released his own statement saying, quote, our investigators are working diligently on the case, which is an open and active investigation. in all cases, we look for evidence of motivation, including possible hate crimes. the sfpd, the sfpd will release the video in this case. >> all right, pam, time is 404. new numbers are out on declining population showingújust how much spthe bay area's population was affected by the number of people leaving the area during the pandemic. san francisco, oakland and san jose were all among the top six cities nationwide for declining population. between 2020 and 2023, the bay area's population dropped by about 250,000 during that time period. >> marriage numbers have returned to pre-pandemic levels here in the us, the cdc says. about 2.1 million couples were

the end of the week before we start to see some significant changes. but subtle changes today, that's the upper low that we still had last week, still churning in arizona. it's a slow mover, that's for sure, butúit's lost a lot of its oomph. 40s 50s on the temps here, but really the fog is the main story. some low 40s for some. i mean fairfax down to 42, windsor's 42, even sonoma's 4340s and 50s on the coast, 20s up in the mountains 51 crescent city to 53 in los angeles and san diego. you can see the low circulation right in arizona still triggering some activity in the higher elevations. for us, though, change is on the way, but probably not until around thursday or friday. but it does look like rain returns for the upcoming into middle of next wes the way it looks with more mountain snow. so we had our nice break. it'll still be nice inland today, so the return of the fog clear inland. sunny, a little cooler though. i mean, it'll still be nice, but coming down 60s. they're mainly low 70s inland. >> all right. thank you steve. dozens of cars were broken into in one north bay city in just 24

after one of its planes was missing. an external panel when it landed. now, on friday morning, the united flight out of sfo arrived in medford, oregon, with a missing panel beneath the plane. we don't know when that panel broke off, and it's just the latest incident involved boeing planes, the white jean-pierre, said the

administration has faith in both the faa and the ntsb in making sure planes are safe in the skies. >> what our commitment is, is to the safety of americans first. and that's what faa is doing. and so they are taking actions. we stand by those actions to increase safety. obviously, an oversight of boeing now, united airlines says the crew of flight 433 did not declare an emergency, and there was no indication of damage during that flight. >> researchers have confirmed the presence of a flatworm in southern california that can kill a dog. now, scientists at uc riverside say they found a parasite commonly referred to as liver fluke, in the colorado river. the parasite has never been reported this far. now the liver, which in the mosts of

>> thank you. zach. two vallejo men are now accused of attempted murder after exchanging gunfire with benicia officers. police say they tried to pull over the two men friday night after a license plate reader tagged it as part of a suspected armed robbery. now, the suspects refused to stop. that led to a chase on to interstate 780. the vehicle crashed. one suspect was immediately taken into custody. police say the second suspect ran as he fired shots at officers who returned fire. that suspect was eventually found and taken into custody. the incident for hours, but noc one was hurt. police in brentwood say they arrested a suspect in a shooting. it happened at 8:00 saturday night at on orchard drive near mclaren road. the victim was takenúto the hospital and is expected to survive. police still have not said what do sayc incident.oting, but they >> our time now. 433 a california lawmaker in his final

francisco intersection where a crash killed a mother, father and their young child. it happened when an suv drove plows stop where the family was waiting. ktvuúallie rasmus joins us now about how the tragedy has prompted a fierce debate about public safety. allie >> well, it happened in the middle of the afternoon, 1230 on a saturday. and this is right spnext to the west portal muni station. and behind us you can see there's crime scene tape still here. this is part of an investigation. it's also a memorial. as you can see, some people have come and left behind flowers stuffed animals. and you'll notec the three pairs of shoes representing the three people who died here when an suv jumped this curb and crashed into the family waiting at the bus stop, a father, todd and toddler died at the scene. the mother and infant baby rushed to the hospital with some life threatening injuries. we learned that the mother died at the hospital over the weekend. the baby is still in critical condition now. the driver of the

suv was hospitalized as well. what caused this suv to hop the curb and crash not just into the bus stop, but continue on to crash into a pole fire hydrant and into the side of the west portal library. police say speed was a factor, but investigators don't know if the driver was under the influence or may have had a medicalúemergency. >> i was walking my dog and i, heard a horn, and then this all mighty loud boom. i mean, it was, how would you put it? you know, people say like a bomb going off. well, this one was spsort of like that. >> i just feel for the been des. and, i just saw this sleeping stuffed animal, and i just thought of the baby. >> safety advocates like the group walk sf. and now city leaders are talking about ways to make this area safer for. ins weekend, supervisor myrna melgar said, quote, my office, along with sfmta public improve safety

stems from phoenix, a three month old who the medical examiner ruled died from fentanyl overdose. her father is now facing charges. social workers say the attorney& are being made a scapegoat and that his instructions well, in , one person has been arrested, accused of a deadly stabbing. it happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue. the stabbing victim. one suspect was detained. this was berkeley's first homicide of the year, and the investigation continues into what led up to that attack. san francisco police will now release video showing what led up to the death of a woman last year. >> now, wu died from her injuries last june . no arrests were made at the time. investigators say it was an accident. however, just last week, the person accused year-oa hopkins was arrested for

violently assaulting a 71 year old china woman. that led to demands from the asian community in the city to reopen the case. from last summer. san francisco's chief of police, in reaction to the mayor's request, released his own statement saying, quote, our investigators are working diligently in the case,c which is an open and active investigation. in all cases. we look for evidence of motivation, including possible hate crimes. the sfpd will release the video in thisc case, our time is 604. >> the city of san rafael just released the results of a new study looking at the obstacles faced by the homeless. now, the research found most people are who are experiencing homelessness in san rafael desperately want to stop living on the street. but they say a lack of affordable housing, also a shortage of city services, ar& standing in their way now. the city teamed up with the marin county health department andc several nonprofit groups to conduct that study.

crash killed a mother, a father and their young child. what a story. >> curb, smashed right into the bus stop where the family was waiting. ktvu. allie rasmus is with us now with the debate about public safety. that's become really fierce right now. good morning allie. >> yes, good morning dave and pam. a tragedy all around that a lot of neighbors in the west portal neighborhood have been talking about and reaching out to city leaders, calling for changes to the speed and to the layout of the intersection here. this is the bus stop behind me where this all happened. you can see it is now a crime scene investigation. also a memorial. take note of the stroller in which people have placed flowers, candles, stuffed animals and at the foot of that stroller are three pairs of shoes, including the shoes of a young child. they're meant to represent the three people who died, according to the safety advocacy group walk sf. it was a father and toddler who were

killed instantly when the suv struck themn a mother and baby the weekend, we learned that the mother died from her injuries at the hospital. the baby is still inc critical condition. the driver of the suv was hospitalized as well, and investigators aren'túsure yet what caused this vehicle to hop the stop. police say speed was definitely a factor, but investigators don't know if the driver was under the influence or if that driver may have had a medical >> i was just right around the corner when it happened. i a horn go and then, you know, almighty crash, i mean, everybody in the neighborhood was out because it was so loud. i think it's brutal, just brutal . very unusual for this area. >> safety advocates like the group walk sf, and now city leaders are talking about ways to make this area safer. in a statement this weekend, supervisor myrna melgar, which represents this district, said, quote, my office, along with
