darrow. she is one of the last surviving u.s. navy nurses who took care of american service members, wounded in the attack on pearl harbor. one of her patients was almost killed in the water after being blown off his boat during that bombing in pick him up and he was pulling himself up like this into the boat when they shot him, and he got shot in the back. and he is he still looks and sounds good. miss darrow was working at peralta hospital in oakland at the time of the attack. >> well, it is back to school this morning at a pleasanton high school. despite a fire that broke out this weekend. more on the investigation into the fire, into that school's gym. >> plus this neighborhood in particular is very nice, so i just can't even imagine why they would pick this area at all. warning car owners to be on

had been such a nice commute. but that earlier crash near gregory 242 very okay to the tunnel and on the- richmond bridge we have a little bit of a backup now you can see. and here at the bay bridge it's& backed up toúthe maze. 702 let's get back to theúheadlines. >> all right. thank is expectede in session today at amador valley high school in pleasanton. the school's gymnasium caught fire over the weekend. ktvu james torres live for us at that school with details this morning on what we know. good morning, james told us. >> yeah, we are just acrossúthe street for amador valley high school here. this first bell is expected ring in just about 15 minutes. the school's gym is what caught fire late into the see the gym from where? but we t the gym looked like when firefighters first got here. the gym is further into campus.

those firefighters rushed to thc scene and reported no the fire e district, though, is now adjusting to that 15 unit response to what they deemed a second alarm fire. the district sending a message to students, parents and teachers letting them know to stand by for any school updates. but we did just speak to a principal of the school a few minutes ago who said classes today will act as sppleasanton unified school district came out to the scene last night, letting the authorities do their do what they do best, and thenúwe're obviously going to be collaborating with them as long as it takes to make sure that we do what we need to do to be safe . district spokesperson says the gym building is about 100 years old, and they use it to facilitate sports practices and games. the fire department is still working to learn how exactly this fire started.úbut again, from what we understand, the school day shouldn't be

affected. classes are still in session. students are still asked to report to class today, and that first bell is expected to ring at about 715 this morning. we're live this morning in pleasanton. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> well, new information about a 13 year old arrested in connection with the killing oft& an oakland store clerk. major al-hasani was shot and killed in early january while working at orlando's market. one juvenile was arrested last month in connection with that case, and the bay area news group is now reporting that that same teen wd armed robbery at a convenience store about 40 minutes later. and in berkeley, one person has been arrested, accused of a deadly stabbing that happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue. the stabbing victim died at the scene and one suspect was detained. this was berkeley's first homicide of the year, and the investigation continues into what led up to that attack. >> our time now, 704, there's a new warning from petaluma police after thieves broke into more

than 30 cars across the city. here's some of the photos of the damage released by the police. shattered glass stretching across the not used >> i mean it just moving further and further out from san francisco. it's really where i feel like it might have started. >> the police want anyone who may have surveillance video of these car break ins to contact them. meantime, san francisco police have reversed course, and now they will release video showing what led to the death of a woman who was pushed to the ground last year, 63 year old yanfang wu died from her injuries in june and no arrests were made. at the time, investigators said it was an accident. but just last week, the person accused of pushing her, 43 year old thea hopkins, was arrested for violently assaultingúa 71 year old chinese woman that led to demands from the asian community to reopen

the case from last summer. well, san francisco police chief the d said this our investigators are working diligently on the case, which is an open and active investigation. in all cases, we look for evidencec of motivatio, including possible hate crimes. the sfpd will release the video in this case, more criticism for boeing after one of its planes was missing an external panel when it landed. >> now, on friday morning, that united flight out of sfoúarrived in medford, oregon, with a missing panel beneath the plane. we don't know when that panel broke off, and it's just the latest incident involving boeing planes, white house press secretary karine jean-pierre says the administrationúhas faith in both the faa and the ntsb. in ensuring safety in the skies. >> what our commitment is, is to make sure that we want to put the safety of americans first. and that's what faa they are ta.

we stand by those actions to increase safety, obviously, and oversight of boeing. >> united says the crew of flight 433 did not declare an emergency, and there was no indication of damage during the flight. a battle is brewing over plans to build a new water pump station in novato. the north marin water district is considering building the facility on city owned land near ignacio boulevard and palmer drive. the agency says it's needed to replace the current pump station, which is nearly 60 years old, but opponents say it would be an eyesore to people who live and work in that area. and they are calling for the pump station to be built at a more remote location in novato. >> our time now. 707 the city of san rafael releases results of a new study about the hurdles faced by the homeless. the researchers found most people who are dealing with homelessness in san rafael desperately want to stop living on the street, but they sayúa lack of affordable housing and a shortage of city services are

standing in their way. the city teamed up with the marin county health department and several nonprofit groups to conduct that study in the city of pittsburgh. plans to spend millions of dollars in grants to improve the city'sc waterfront. the city plans to improve access to the water and the delta to encourage recreational activities. the plan is to improve central harbor park by late 2026, and the upgrades will includeúnew features in the park, a fish cleaning station, improved paths , and also signs targeting the works being paid for by $3.7 million in grant money. >> a nonprofitúgroupc in marin county wants to return part of point reyesc to indigenous stewardship. the group, alliance for felix cove, is trying to get approval from the point reyes spnational seashore to build an historical center and indigenous garden at the 12 acre site. now,

morning. ali >> good morning dave. well, we can get a better sense of the gravity and the seriousness of this tragedy now that the sun is up and you can see the extent of the damage behind us, all this metal, you see here in the gras& behind this bench, that was part ofúa bus shelter that was here at west portal. you see all these folks right now, the busses are still coming, but all these for the bus kind of beyond this area andúa lot of people walking by have been sort of solemnly looking at this crash site that is now a crime scene. this happened saturday afternoon, june 1230, and you can see that people have also left memorialie people who the three people who were killed here. there's also a pair of three pairs of shoes representing the three people who died, according to the safety advocacy group walk sf, the father, toddler, a father and toddler were killed when an suv jumped the curb and struck them at the bus stop. a mother

and baby were seriously injured, and over the weekend, we learned that the mother died from her injuries at the hospital. the baby is still in critical condition. the driver of the suv was hospitalized as well, and investigators aren't sure yet what caused this crash. high rate of speed was certainly a factor, according to police, but this hitting the west portal library and a pole along the way. it's unclear whether alcohol or drugs may have been a factor, or if the driver may have had a medical emergency. >> we i was just right around the corner when it happened, heard a horn go and then an almighty crash. i mean, everybody out because it was so. i think it's brutal, just brutal. very unusualc for this area. >> in a statement this weekend, supervisor myrna melgar said my office, along with sfmta public

5:00 this evening, live in san francisco. ali rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. >> okay. ali thank you. time now. 735. two men from now accused of attempted murder after a shootout with police in benicia. police say they tried to pull over the two men friday night after a license plate reader said the car was part of a suspected armed robbery. the suspects refused to stop. that led to a chase on the interstate 780.úthat car crashed arrested immediately. police say the second suspect ran as he fired shots at police officers who fired back. that suspect was eventually found and was arrested. the incident closed down interstate 780 in both directions for hours. no one was hurt, and police in brentwood arrested a suspect in a saturday night on orchard drive near mclaren road. the victim was taken to the hospital and is

expected to survive. the police still haven't said what led up to that shooting, but they do say it appears to have been an isolated incident. well researchers have confirmed the presence of a flatworm in southern california that can kill a dog. >> scientists at uc riverside say they found a parasite, in humans. but researchers say,- and researchers say there's no danger to drinking california water because any parasites are filtered out. but scientists say dogs should avoid swimming in the colorado river. that river goes through several states and runs along the arizona california border. if dogs are infected, it can be several months before the worst of the symptoms appear. new funding for a project that would create the largest reservoir anywhere in california. president biden signed a package of bills that includes $205 million in construction funding for sites, reservoir near sacramento. with the funding approved by congress.úthat project now has more than 90% of the financing

though fire ravaged the school's james torres is at the schooltv- with details this morning. james we are just across the street from amador valley high school here. we're right at the front of campus. you can see a group of what looks like some school leaders and some contractors potentially talking about what they need to do next to solve the problem of thisúbuilding their small gym, catching fire late last night. now, firefighters and representatives at the pleasanton unified school district spent the night looking atúhow much this fire would affect today's school day. and while not be safe to enter, the school's principal not affect the school day. last night, the school's small gym to the scene to put it out. they did not report any injuries. of course, it is a sunday night, so they didn't expect many people to be in the building. representatives from the district visited the scene last night, letting the authorities do their do what they do best,

well safety advocates are calling for changes to a san francisco intersection where a crash killed three people. >> itúhappened while they were waiting at a bus stop. ktvu allie rasmus is live at that scene to explain more about how this tragedy isústirring up debate about public safety. and allie, just a tragic story out there, a terrible scene, and you can see the remnants of it here behind us. >> you see these chunks of metal behindúthis police tape here. that is what is left of the bus shelter that was on lennox street near the west portal. muni station. that's where this tragedy happened saturday afternoon. a man, woman, toddler and infant were all waiting here at the bus stop when an suv driving eastbound hit the westport library, which is the building right behind this scene here, plowed into the curb, went up on the curb, and then struck the family that was waiting here. now in the 48 hours since this happened, peopleúhave come to lay flowers, stuffed animals and candles to honor the people

killed. you'll also note that there are three pairs of shoes and a stroller at this site, behind the crime scene tape. according to the safety advocacy group walk sf, it was a family of four that was waiting here. the father and toddler were killed when the suv struck them. a mother and baby were seriously injured, and over the weekend we learned that the mother died hospital. the baby is still in driver of the suv wasw. the hospitalized as well, and investigators aren't sure yet what caused this crash. they say speed was a factor, but it's not the influence or had a medical emergency that caused the driver to lose control of the suv. >> i was just right around the corner when it happened. i heard a horn go. and then, you know, almightyúcrash. i mean, everybody in the neighborhood was out brutal.
