so far, three people have died. ktvu sally rasmus joins us from the scene to explain how this incident is prompting debate about public safety. ali got throughout theúmorning. >> andre, we've seen people coming to what's left of this bus stop and coming by and sort of stopping and memorial that'st up. this is where this tragic and severe incident happened on saturday afternoon. you can see people have left behind flowers, stuffed animals just a tangle o. this is all what bus shelter here, where this crash happened. and here on the ground, you. you can't help but notice the three pairs and the stroller that have been leftúbehind. those three pairs spof shoes meant to represent te three people who to the safety y group walk sf. it was a father and toddler who were killed at first when the suv struck them. learned that the mother diedd w- from her injuries at the hospital. the baby is still in

critical condition now. the driver of the suv was hospitalized as well. investigators aren'túsure yet speed was a factor, but they doy not know why that suv drove up onto the curb after hitting the west portal library. and then this bus stop right next to itn >> i was just right around the corner when it happened. i heard a horn go and then an almighty crash. i mean, everybody in the neighborhood was out because it was so loud. i think it's brutal . just brutal. very unusual for this area. >> in a statement this weekend, supervisor myrna melgar said my office, along with sfmta public works and neighbors, have already been in discussions to improve safety conditions for pedestriansúand riders around the west. the trauma and impact of this incident are immeasurable, end quote. now the group walk sf says they want sfmta to step up its plans to add speed cameras

throughout the city to make the roads safer. we spoke with some residents here this morning who say they like that idea. >> i do like that idea, actually. and i think it's proven that lowering speed does save lives. >> now, san francisco police say traffic engineering or the way the streets and the bus stop laid out was not a factor in this crash. but some neighbors, as well as those safety groups, really disagree with that assessment. if you take a look at the intersection around, thea muni lines, there's bus stops and there's a lot of pedestrians, especially when those muni lines empty out and stop here you see just a flood of pedestrians coming in all directions across thist& intersection. and but there's no crossing lights specifically for pedestrians. and then on the road leading up to this point, there'sústop signs. but again, no traffic lights or crossing lights for pedestrians either.

so that is what's prompting some of the debate about what maybe needsúarea to make it safer in general for pedestrians. but first, tonight at 5:00, there will be a vigil here at the site of this terrible crash walk. sf is sponsoring that, and they're inviting people to come and pay tribute to the three people who lost their lives here, live in san francisco allie rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. >> new information about a 13 year old arrested in connection with the killing of an oakland store clerk. majed al-hasani was shot and killed in early january while working at orlando's market. one juvenile was arrested last month in connection with the case. the bay area news group now reports that teen is suspected of committing a second armed robbery at a convenience store about 40 minutes later. well san francisco police have now reversed course and will release video showing what led to the death of a woman who was pushed to the ground last year. >> 63 year old yen fang wu died

from her injuries last june. ma, and investigators at the calledúit an accident. but then just last week, the person accused of pushing her. 43 year-old tia hopkins, was arrested for violently assaulting a 71 year old woman of chinese descent. and that led to demands from the asian community in the city to reopen the case from last summer. san francisco's chief of police released a statement saying, quote, our investigators are working diligently on the case, which is an open and active investigation. in all cases, we look for evidence of motivation, including possible hate crimes. sfpd will release the video in this case.t& >> well, there's a police after thieves broke into more than 30 cars across the city. here's some of the photos of the damage released by police. shattered glass stretching across the city . people who live in petaluma say they are not used to this. >> i mean, it is moving further and further out from san francisco is really where i feel like it might have surveillancef these car break ins to contact

them. >> more criticism for boeing after one of its planes was missing an external panel when it landed on friday morning, the united flight out of sfo arrived in medford, oregon, with a missing panel beneath that plane , and we do not know when that panel broke off. but this is just the latest incident involving boeing planes. white house press secretary karine jean-pierre said the administration has faith in both the faa and the ntsb in ensuring safety in our skies. >> what our commitment is, is to make sure that we want to put the safety of americans first, and that's what faa is doing. and so they are taking actions. we stand by those actions to increase safety. obviously and oversight of boeing 433 did notn emergency, and there the flight. >> the southbound lanes of interstate 680 are back open this morning, caltrans posted video of the work that took place over the weekend. a

he's on to the nine. you're taking a live look over highway four into the delta as we seet& pittsburgh in those blue skies, kind of, pulling out from the weekend of what it's been really a spectacular weekend across the bay area, as steve has been telling us all morning long, changes are coming, but we're enjoying that sunshine on this monday morning as we welcome back the workweek. let's talk about the giants. the giants are mutually parting ways with their longtime announcer. you have likely heard the voice of renel brooks-moon. if you've been to a

giants game, or if you've listened to radio over the years in the bay area. now, she's been the public address announcer inside oracle park since 2000. she was the first black woman to sphave that job in baseball. the were negotiations, but apparently the two sides just couldn't reach a new contract agreement. so the team says the announcer booth at oracle park will be named after brooks-moon. but renel, as she's mostly known by people, they just call her renel, is leaving, which, you know, i think is kind of an emotional departure. those of us who have, you know, kind of grown up listening to her, she's been part of the radio worldúand broadcast not just for the giants, but kind of just across the board with radio. you know, it's sad. it is. it's significant as asl as, you know, as the first black woman to hold that job and, and just really kind of as an icon. >> have you guys ever met her? because i've known her for such a long time. she's just walk upd give you a hug, right? >> she's definitely a fan favorite at those games. you talk about that and she she was in radios.c >> i met her when i was in radio

today at amador valley high school in pleasanton. even though a fire ravaged the school's gymnasium are one of them. over the weekend, as ktvu james torres reports, school district officials say it's not going to affect classes today. >> we are across the street from amador valley high school, where just after the first bell this morningl you see a group of representatives from the school and to do next after their school's small gym caught fire late last night. and while the building may not be safe to enter, the school's principal says it will not affect the school day today. last night, the small gym caught fire. firefighters rushed to the spscene to put it out. they did not report any injuries, but representatives from the district visited the scene last night. we're letting the authority do their do what they do best and then, we're obviously going to be collaborating with them as long as it takes to make sure that we do what we need to do to be safe. a district spokesperson says the gym building is about 100 years old. it's used to

facilitate sports practices and games. no word, just yet on what started that fire. the fire is underway. reporting in pleasanton. i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> well, two men from vallejot& are now accused of attempted murder after a shootout with police in benicia. police say they tried to pull over the two men on friday night after a license plate reader said it was part of a to stop and then that led to a to interstate 780. that is where the car crashed and where one suspect was immediately arrested. police say the second suspect ran and fired shots at police officers who fired back. the suspect was eventually found and taken into custody, but that incident closed 780 in both open up until early sundayidn't morning. fortunately or early saturday morning, i should say. and fortunately, no one was hurt. police in brentwood arrested a suspect in a

the shelter. with us to talk more about the program is joseph romero from the east bay spca, and ali such, who is a volunteer. foster and first ali. and who are you with here today? >> this is sharpy.úhe's a mixed. his face? >> yes. all right. he's so cute. so let's getúthe lay of the land here. joseph, talk a little bit& about this program that you all >> so our foster program hasúa few different facets depending on on how much time a volunteer wants to commit. we have a field trip program where they would hours, go out on a hike. we also have they'll take another dog out for, you know, maybe 2 or 3 to the house, and then we have long time foster care asúwell. all of these program help with the animal stress levels. so even a short two hour outing, you know, whether it be taking the animal on a hike or going to starbucks or for a puppuccino, they, they de-stress and they are better

because of it. >> so you have all these varying programs of a way you can you can contribute. how long have you had these different? and you've had foster for a while, but taking them out for or taking them home for three days, how long have those been around, so we're really ramping up our field trips now, we had been doing it on and off for the last couple of years, but since we've got out of like it's some, like i said, is beneficial to both the public as well as our spanimals. >> so you're here today toc get the word out about this. and ali, volunteers that take part takes part in this program. tell us ad is this the pup that you are taking on a field trip? >> yeah, we went on ac field trp this morning before coming here, i yeah, like joseph said, i kind of just do what fits my schedule, which is oneúof the reasons i have been able to volunteer pretty consistently, i usually do one field trip a week. i've done a couple overnights, which is actually how i adopted one of weeks at a time.

you also, still go on the field trips with the dogs at the east bay spca. so do you do you bring and how does that go? yeah,n&- >> i have two dogs now and back when just had one, i would bring her with me on the field trips and she fell in love with one of our fosters, so he stayed with us. >> all right, joseph, tell us why. why is this program so wrag it up now, like i said, it essentially it just helps with the animalgs overall stress. it helps us, get a better feel of how the animal may be in a home, which also helps get the animal adopted in the long run, a lot of the animals, i mean, as nice as the shelter is, it can be a stressful environment. so just reaching out to people to, to, to help us is there any shortage take take from this program? ort cats for the sleepovers and for the field trips? >> it's just dogs for cats. it's more foster program. all right. and for all of the programs we supply, everything from food supplies,

any type of medical care that the animal may need. >> so essentially, the person that's volunteering just provides the dog with company. exactly and something to do. what are the requirements that you have for those who come in toúvolunteer to be part of this program, essentially you just need to be 18 and over. >> we'll a quick little application and then do an online orientation, which only takes about maybe 50 minutes or son gotcha. cleared . >> and foster ali, you sound like you're a pretty big fan of this, but but what would you say to right now to encourage them to take part in this program, whether they have a dog or not? way take like a couple wonderful hours out of whatever day you have time and get to know a dog really low commitment, spca sets you up with everything and you get to have a nice little outing and you get to learn a lot aboue you're helping them out. yeah. >> and joseph, what's the name of the program? so folks, when they do go look about it, they can ask for it specifically. >> it's just part of the foster program. so it's either
