there winding it up. when we checked in with sal and steve in our last half hour of news. so we're getting closer to that game kicking off in just a few hours from now. and while many people go to oracle park for giants games, others might go just for the food alone. and there are quite a few new options at oracle park this season. sal castaneda will give us a closer look in our next half hour, but some of the new ones include fuku chicken sandwich, which is a spicy fried chicken on a brioche bun. then we also have the waffle mint sundae that includes vanilla ice cream, oreo toppings with a fresh waffle cone shaped as a glove, and some returning favorites as well are the dungeness crab sandwich and plant based sausage. among many others. man, all that sounds really, really, really. >> i'm hungry. stomachs growling, looking at all that yummy food. >> all right. but first we want some viewer reaction. now what food items are you most excited

9:04 am
very soon here, we're going to ask him the pertinent questions, one of which being why do they always have new food? are they trying to add to my waistline? steve. my goodness. well, slim, you come on now. come on now, but, you know, it is, opening day. it's a tradition like no other in san francisco. the bunting is up, people are already outside. believe it or not, some of the hardier outsidt now. a lot of clouds around us. but 56 for a high today, 56 for a high. >> all right. and one last thing. do you remember the very first baseball game you ever went to? maybe with your dad? i do. >> it was, crosley field in cincinnati, and my dad leaned over and said, i want you to pay attention to this man. i said, okay, that man was stan musial, and he hit a single. >> there you go. how about you? my first one was, candlestick park, the very first player i loved was willie mccovey. of course, i was obsessed with that guy, and my first jersey that my dad got me, willie mccovey in the giants. so when i was in little league, i was a pitcher. >> who did i emulate? juan marichal. there you go. i did the high kick one. i did that.
9:05 am
now you'd have to take me to john muir. >> oh, coming up a little later on the show, ali, and andre, we're going to have more on the food. they have a new sound system. we're going to ask larry, just what the methodology is about getting all these new things. that's coming up soon. >> it's a fantastic. i got a chance to go there a couple of weeks ago and see everything being set up ahead of this big opening day. it's a beautiful day and the sun is starting to come out. you guys are lucky. lucky steve, you chose the right day for this steve paulson. thank you. all right. the countdown is on to the first pitch at the giants home opener today. >> ktvu bailey o'carroll is at our oracle park this morning. you've been there since the early morning hours. kind of saw this slow rollout process of getting everything ready. what are you going to show us now? right, right right. good morning guys. >> yeah, we've been out here. i arrived here just about 4:00 this morning, so we've been able to watch them prep this field in real time, and we are also just up the way from sal and steve. so we've gave them a little wave earlier today, but i'll move out of the way. so you can see the
9:06 am
field behind me. it has changed dramatically since we last showed you of course, the tarp. you can tell it is gone, removed. they got all that rainwater off of it and now they are raking the mound and kind of putting the final touches on it. you can see they're getting ready for batting practice here. setting up behind home plate. and i can tell you probably just about an hour ago we did see a young hu lee make his way into the stadium. so we know he is here. he's the first player that we've seen arrive here this morning ahead of the home opener for the giants. and speaking of the giants, i caught up with two pretty big giants fans, they would tell you themselves that as well. none other than ace pitcher logan webb's grandmother's jan and patty. they are quite a hoot. also, big , big baseball fans. of course, logan is their favorite baseball player, but they love all the guys on this team. there are plenty of new faces on this roster this year. they are very
9:07 am
excited to see what those new players are able to bring to this squad. now, logan calls his grandma's the team grandmas. they are at every game that he pitches at and as i mentioned, they're very excited for this new season and all the new faces . >> when the new players arrive, he wants them to shake hands and say good morning to everybody. it's sort of an icebreaker and i know that you know what it's like going into a group of people that are already established. and so it's kind of nice. it's a nice icebreaker and you're not walking on eggshells. >> yeah. so that's the new what logan kind of established in this clubhouse to help everybody kind of get adjusted to each other and make sure that all the players feel welcome. the grandmas tell me that they are most excited to watch all the new pitchers and of course, logan this season. but they say they're excited to watch all the hitting this year. they say
9:08 am
logan told them that this new coaching staff for the giants makes each player take batting practice each day. of course, if they are healthy and able to do so, they say they are looking forward to some possible high powered offense for this giants team this year, and they're excited to see that. now, one other thing that they're excited for, patty says that her favorite player other than logan, of course, is wilmer flores. she says every season, logan promises her that he will introduce the two of them. she says it hasn't happened yet, but she's hoping this year will finally be the year. and she did tell me we would be the first to know if that meeting happened, and that she would be sure to send pictures. you can hear again, the sights and sounds of this field getting set ahead of first pitch. it is expected scheduled to be thrown out just about 1:00 or 130 rather, and this afternoon reporting live from oracle park. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news

welcome back to mornings on two. the nine. i am with the president and ceo of the giants, larry baer. this has become a tradition. we talk on opening day. welcome to the nine, larry. thanks, sal. >> it's great being here. as i recall, you might have been here year one, which was 25 years ago in this new ballpark. >> i know, and i was already a grown man. i wasn't a kid. we're not going to try and sell that. so i've been coming for a long time. and, you know, we're talking off the air about how the giants want to refresh the experience because a lot of people come a lot of season ticket holders or people who come every year, they want to see something new. how do you go about that? >> so you know, so we invite people to the park each year knowing that they expect something a little different.
9:13 am
and not everybody, some are huge baseball fans walking down, coming in, memorizing, batting averages and numbers and all that. and then others are coming for the experience and then they become big baseball fans. so we look really carefully and work hard on guest services and being very customer service friendly food, music, lighting, accommodations, easy in and out and all of that. we've actually looked in our 25th year. we've rebooted in all those areas and put, you know, quite a bit of energy and effort into making this a great experience. whether you're a huge baseball fan or you're the casual fan, you know, a little later on we're going to talk specifics with rachel hite, who is a marketing director. >> but i know that you've added something close to my heart is a good sound system. you know, i'm a dj, right? >> yeah, i know, i've heard you. yes, yes, yes, yes. >> so the new sound system with subwoofers. larry unce unce unce unce love that. >> you know, and there's an audience out there. it's
9:14 am
interesting because, you know, when you're going to a baseball game, you have choices. you could go to a movie, you can go to a concert, you go to a show, go for a picnic. and we want to make this experience work in, in all ways and, you know, so we want engagement with the game, but we also want engagement with the experience. and that's for us. we're really proud of the fact this is our 25th year, 16 of the 24 years have been sold out and people come with their families. they come on date night, they come in groups, you know, kind of it all kind of a wide swath here. >> so let's talk about the team on the field, they just came back the giants from a tough road trip against the dodgers. the dodgers are always going to be the dodgers. it doesn't mean they're stacked team doesn't mean they're going to win. we already know that. but the giants themselves have also gotten better blake snell comes to mind. you got a legit in my opinion tyrell estrada at second base. you have the new center fielder. you have all these things. you have a power hitter. talk more about the team.
9:15 am
>> yeah. so what we did in this off season i mean i think you have as you go through the rhythms, you know sometimes you you make tweaks like when we won championships the year to year, there were some tweaks this year we say, look we had last year last year. so is there a reboot? you know, a i wouldn't say a rebuild. it was a reload. so, we think about now we've got players that are going to be everyday players. jungwoo lee and center field is going to start every day. i mean, he'll may get a day off once in a while, but he's the center fielder. matt chapman is at third base. jorge soler is our designated hitter. i mean these guys are going to be in the lineup every day, right? and so we're really excited about it. we have seven new free agents. we. blake snell makes his debut monday night. so we're really excited about the fact that we've got guys that people can connect with, some of them are on long terme contracts. right. so, jungwoo lee, six year deal. you know, so we're excited about the fact that we've got guys that, you know, fans are going to connect in with for over the

. we've been watching this field crew prep this field for since 4:00 this morning. we got here. it was covered in a white tarp that had tons of rainwater on it. of course that tarp has been removed. lines painted on. they've put up the little barrier to keep us from walking on the grass. they've got the home plates up and they are working on the mound as we speak right now, working to get this field ready for that first pitch, which is set to be thrown out just after 130 this afternoon. a couple of players arriving as well. we watched jung-woo lee and get get to the stadium this morning. he got here just about an hour ago. he was the first player that we saw walk into the stadium this morning, and other than that, it's really just excitement building. you saw some of the giants employees come out here to take a picture in front of home plate to celebrate opening day. now, i did ask representative with the giants if they could tell us who, what

would be throwing out the first pitch today. they say that's top secret. they would not share that information with me. but i did try to get it out of them, which is, hey, all you can do at this point. but they are. they did tell me they are expecting a sold out crowd. they say that people should get here early. they have a number of ceremonial things happening ahead of that first pitch too, that they want to make sure fans are in their seats for and don't get caught up in traffic either. trying to get to the stadium or just trying to make their way inside side with security and all of those things. but again, first pitch set to be thrown out just after 130 this afternoon here at oracle park reporting live. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. all right. >> thank you bailey. we have more fun from oracle park ahead of the giants home opener this afternoon. coming up on mornings on two. the nine. we're going to be talking live with the organization's chief marketing officer to see what fans can expect. here's a live picture of the field. stay with us fine lines? make an appointment with this.

we're laughing because they are testing the sound system here. >> rachel yeah, we'll see how high they have to count to test the new speakers. >> right. so the new speakers are something that really, interest me because i thought the sound system was good last year. how have you improved it? >> well, so what we did was we actually replaced the speaker and speakers that were here since the ballpark opened. so 25 years ago. and as you can imagine, a lot has improved since then. so we replaced all the speakers, added amplifiers and subwoofers. so we'll really improving the fidelity and the sound quality throughout the ballpark. >> and larry told me earlier that the giants and you as marketing director are always looking to improve things every single year to keep people coming back and maybe to give them a surprise or two. what are some of the things that people coming back this year, will have that they didn't have next, last year? >> last year? yeah. in addition to the sound system, we've also upgraded the entire lighting

system. the sports lights will now be able to portray full color spectrum across the ballpark, as well as motion sensors. and then we also have a number of new food offerings here in the ballpark. >> we just went through those. do you have a favorite because we're running a little bit of a poll okay. you want me to tell you that it was down to the fuku chicken for me or the crab sandwich? >> so i traditionally have been a crab sandwich girl, but i have to say, i'm so excited about the new cove crab noodles. >> oh, that. yeah. >> green tea, soba noodles with dungeness crab, shiitake mushrooms, edamame. it's delicious. >> wow. okay. is that what you would choose today? on this very day? >> on this. >> on this very day, this day, we wanted to remind people again that you can still get a hot dog and a beer. steve mentioned earlier about the giants and their new campaign, the slogan is nothing like it, nothing like it. and that's what you want to do, not only for the team, but for the experience here. >> absolutely. i mean, we are
9:44 am
committed to delivering an amazing fan experience both on and off the field, and we feel that our nothing like it campaign really captures the moment. >> how do you come up with those, a lot of hard work, a lot of brainstorming and a lot of caffeine. >> right, there was once a year they had giant attitude back, going way back. every year. they have, like, i have all kinds of, memorabilia with different slogans. this is slogan stick every. they change it every year. >> actually, this is our second year of continuing. nothing like it. we felt it. you know, was a great match for what we were trying to accomplish last year. and so we're continuing it into 2024. >> okay. so here's some of the tougher questions when it comes to the giants. and trying to get people to come back. you know sometimes the team takes dips. it goes up and down. what kind of experiences are you looking to draw people back? maybe people who are the casual fan. >> sure. i mean, we think a day at oracle park is an amazing experience. whether you're a fanatic baseball fan or even a

9:46 am
here, so yeah, i'm really excited to be here. it's been an amazing experience so far. >> is there something about baseball that you didn't expect you came from tech. so it's something about baseball that is like, wow, i didn't realize that, i don't think i realized how, you know, the endurance level required to last a baseball season, so we've been working really hard in the off season, and i'm just very excited for this year. >> rachel height, the marketing director for the san francisco giants and unnamed announcer guy, who is counting over the microphone right now, thank you, andre and ali. ali, right here we are, right in the middle of everyone getting ready. so the announcer is just part of it. there's a bunch of people around here running around getting ready for opening day. >> yeah, and some of those people are preparing the food. and with that, we're going to go back to our poll and give you another update. this is the poll we asked fans at the beginning of the show. what food item are you most excited to try at
