whole families, not just the workers, whole families. many ehs employees will lose their jobs when the team leaves. oakland will hear from workers on what this departure will likely mean for them and their families. >> this is ktvu fox two news at 730. >> good evening. welcome to ktvu fox two news at 730. i'm crystal bailey, and we'll get to those stories in just a minute. but first, we're following a developing story of a reported freeway shooting in berkeley. it happened just before five at the ashby avenue on ramp on ramp to eastbound interstate 80. chp says one person inside a car was shot by a suspect in another vehicle. the victim's car then crashed shortly after the shooting. the victim has been taken to the hospital. their condition has not been announced . no arrests have been reported, but in san francisco, police are now investigating a deadly shooting inission distripoce officers say they were called to mission near

20th street just after30 ts afternoon, where they found the victim. despite efforts from first responders. that man died at the scene. this is video of the scene from the citizen app. san francisco homicide detectives are still in the area collecting evidence. we're told no arrests have been made. and in vallejo, a woman was attacked while waiting at a stoplight in her car. we know no, it happened at the intersection of tennessee and sonoma. the thief broke through one of the victim's car windows and tried to steal items inside. the victim tells ktvu she held on to several of her belongings and ran the light to escape. she says, quote, it was such a moment of panic, but i'm so grateful that my fight or flight mode took over and led me to safety. no arrests have been made, and a survivor of the half moon bay mass shooting is suing the farm where it happened for failure to protect its workers. ktvu alice wertz explains the intention of the suit.

>> just over a year ago, this tiny coastal town in san mateo county experienced a shocking case of workplace violence. seven people lost their lives in a mass shooting that took place at two farms. five men, two women. the shooter parked outside the sheriff's office before being arrested. today's event packed with media pedro felix romero perez, was shot five times and survived. >> i had two bullets in my stomach, his brother, jose romero perez, killed with six other farm workers, is that i have suffered a lot. >> lawyers filed suit, claiming the employer, california terror gardens, failed to safeguard their farm workers from numerous dangers. >> everybody has a right to feel safe in their home in the state of california. not only did california terra gardens violate those rights by providing

squalid living conditions for the farm workers, but they violated those rights by not providing a place where their tenants felt safe. >> attorney joe cotchett pointed out this was a traumatic event at the workplace that should never have happened, and that's the tragedy. >> but we were shocked when our investigators came back with photographs, the likes of which you can't imagine. >> pedro perez was in the container he lived in when he was shot five times. containers are typical housing for many farm workers, with no running water or electricity. >> one would think after 40 years of cesar chavez, we would be able to put people in something better than a container, a container. >> belinda arriaga is with alice, a community nonprofit that works with farm workers, immediately providing housing support and of course, alice has been doing a lot of mental health work to all would like to

see more state and federal support for farm workers everywhere who endure the same conditions. it's the landlords and the farms that fell short, and it's the landlords and the farms that are going to be held accountable for the harm that pedro and his brother's family are suffering. >> and that was ktvu. alice was one of california's most notorious convicted killers, is seeking to have his death sentence overturned. richard allen davis was convicted and sentenced to be executed in 1996 for the kidnaping and murder of 12 year old polly klaas in petaluma today. his lawyers appeared in san jose courtroom. they say a recent criminal justice reform law that invalidated certain sentencing enhancements entitles davis to have his sentence reconsidered. polly klaas father, marc klaas, disagrees. >> it's horrible. this should have ended 30 years ago. i had every expectation that once he went on death row, it was done. whether he was executed or not, it was finished. but here we are

, and the judge is expected to release a decision next month. >> on whether davis qualifies for resentencing. and the financial repercussions of the a's departure is top of mind for many vas already notifying some office staff workers that they will be laid off as soon as the off season, since sacramento operations will require less staff, ktvu tom vacar spoke to a bartender from the a's who will lose his job come september the 7th. position centerfielder though a's players and senior management will move off to sacramento, ultimately las vegas, the rest of the game day employees have just 74 pay days left. >> bartender tony evans, a ten year veteran, is one of them. this is the time of the year where a lot of us workers, we pay our bills from working for the a's. food services alone has a pool of 800 workers, not to mention ushers, security janitors and facilities personnel. >> all you got so many people

that will be out of health care from may all the way to october, which is really bad. moms, dads, grandparent, everything. seniors. you have a lot of younger people with families with small children. vanessa riles is a campaign coordinator for ebay's the east bay alliance for a sustainable economy. >> mr. isles says many of the jobs are union jobs that pay well over minimum wage. >> and just another job that they may find may not have that same level of support at oakland will be hard hit once again. a lot of them are from the area in east oakland where the coliseum is located, which we know is already a disadvantage. area where people don't have enough economic security, don't have enough housing security, and don't have enough job security. >> many workers say they've gone from this insult. >> all us employees. we stayed loyal to him even though they say wasn't putting a decent product on the field. when they have a winning product on the

field, we all do good. >> to this insult. >> we haven't heard them say anything about a severance pay for us workers. >> the last home game is scheduled for september 26th. tom baker ktvu, fox two news and the a's have filed trademark applications for sacramento a's and sacramento athletics. >> the paperwork was filed yesterday, the same day the team announced it would be temporarily locating two sutter health park in west sacramento. team officials previously said the a's would play without a city designation, but plan to honor sacramento in other ways, including team uniforms. the trademark applications list requests for clothing and entertainment services like media production and plans are moving forward for the oakland roots to play at the coliseum in 2025. team officials say the joint power authority, which oversees the coliseum, has approved plans to negotiate and execute an agreement with the oakland roots and soul soccer clubs, the roots say, with renovations occurring at cal

state east bay next year, the coliseum is the best home venue option for 2025. the team is also hoping to acquire the training facility on harbor bay park parkway and new. at 730. there'a new way to skip the lines at oracle park, the mlb ballpark app where people can access their tickets is now using facial authentication software for its new go ahead entry program. in the app, fans can now take a selfie, upload the picture, and have it confirmed by cameras as they walk through the gates. this means fans who use the go ahead entry program will no longer have to get their tickets scanned to get into the park, go ahead. entry is available at two gates. the lefty o'doul gate on the first base side and the second and king streets gate on the third base side, and fans who were able to make it to oracle park for the giants home opener this afternoon witnessed an instant classic tied at the bottom of the ninth inning. matt chapman scored from first on a hit by thairo estrada for a home

a plane. a spokesperson says united airlines flight 2181 was parking at an unspecified gate when its winglet made contact with the wing of another united aircraft that was already parked. it happened last night around 1030. no one was hurt, but passengers deplaned as normal and convoys are expected to resume this weekend in monterey county to help stranded people by last weekend's slip

out along highway one. last saturday, part of the highway crumbled near big sur. caltrans closed around 40 miles of the road, stranding over 1000 people. earlier this week, convoys helped some people leave the area. and of course, that wet weather forced caltrans to stop this operation. now, caltrans says the convoys are expected to resume tomorrow as its engineers continue to assess the damage to the road. and taking a look at our weather, we've got roberta gonzalez. yes. >> hi, crystal, and good evening, everybody. the heaviest precipitation that we've been experiencing for the past four hours. it's now digging to the south and pushing out, but leaving a little bit of lingering showers in and around the bay area. this is live data. this is our storm tracker picking up the precipitation that has been just training across the east bay right now. right there. we do have a cluster of light to moderate rain showers from fairfield. all the way into benicia. the thunderstorm activity has pushed

well into the central valley now, but we're still picking up some light snow around the eastern foothills of the tri-valley, backing all the way into mount hamilton and a light hit and miss scattered shower notable around the peninsula. temperatures are in the 40s from fairfield into the tri-valley. walnut creek, now checking in at 49 through alamo into diablo and also backing through danville. but this is very interesting with those chilly temperatures take a look at those. wind gusts 22mph at half moon bay, 41 at sfo, 22 in mountain view, 23 in hayward. and it is gusty around mineta international airport. also a wind up to 29 in novato. so when the wind does die down overnight, the temperatures will be dipping into the 30s. and this is why we have a frost advisory in effect for the east bay, the north bay, and also to the north for our friends and mendocino county. a freeze warning in effect tomorrow we

will rebound to sunny skies once the clouds part. temperatures in the 50s and in the 60s. so just a tad warmer, but still below average overnight saturday night to your sunday morning, we will pick up some light rain showers. no accumulation anticipated, just enough to wet the soil from all your gardening plans on saturday. and then for the eclipse on monday. crystal. we've got crystal clear skies. >> love to hear it. i love around that 75 and sunny that's perfect and new at 730, california has unveiled a new plan to counter anti-semitism. >> in this plan, governor gavin newsom says california will use four new strategies to combat hatred towards the state's jewish population. these include supporting and protecting jewish communities, addressing and preventing anti-semitism, and all hate and violence, uplifting jewish heritage and building mutual understanding and advancing equity and countering discrimination. governor newsom says he will continue to engage the legislature in discussing about shared priorities to

annual 420 event on hippie hill would be canceled this year due to budget cuts. but as ktvu tori gaines shows us, the cannabis community has another idea in mind. san francisco weed week kicks off on april 13th. it's meant to be a celebration of cannabis culture and the incredibly rich history that cannabis has here in san francisco. >> i love the fact that cannabis

is so unifying. it traverses all demographics, all races, ages, creeds, so we're going to keep centering the unity, and we're going to build together the event highlights seven dispensaries and seven strains throughout the week. >> a gallery was also built to display the history of flower power. mayor london breed says cannabis is expected to bring $789 million into our economy. between 2024 and 2025. that boost is thanks in part to the 52 business licenses and $11 million provided to new owners as part of the city's equity programs. ali jamalyan was arrested for distributing cannabis when he was in college. he dropped out to handle the case. today, he is a recipient of an equity grant from the city . >> i was actually the one that benefited from the grants, was able to build a business, and today we have 15 employees and we're one of the best selling joints in the state. >> last month, the city announced that budget cuts and a lack of sponsors meant that sf's biggest cannabis event for 20 at hippie hill wouldn't happen this

year. the cannabis community jumped into action. >> let's be clear i love 420. the event is canceled. 420 is an organic event that has come together not because the city says it's so, but because of the community makes it happen. and so we can make it happen no matter what. in any shape or form, anywhere in san francisco. as long as we do so safely. >> many growers have been in the cannabis industry for decades. >> cannabis was always this tenor of like quelling anxiety and making me feel more adapt in my day. >> but cannabis still has a stigma to overcome. cannabis experts struggle when working with traditional doctors. >> we are classifying the flowers by chemical type rather than the ways they've been doing it traditionally, which is smoking in the back room and raising their hands, these experts say cannabis can be a godsend for the right patients. >> it is sometimes the only
