shows us the response to today's attacks in what the u.s. is promising israel going forward. today, israel putting its forces on high alert saturday night, shutting down its airspace as iran launched dozens of drones and missiles toward the country. >> the attack, retaliation for a strike on iran's consulate earlier this month that killed two top iranian generals. iran blames israel for that strike, though the israelis have not taken responsibility. rumors of war have been swirling in the intelligence community ever since israel, readying its defenses in response, trying to shoot down the drones before they reach israeli airspace. israel also directing residents in several areas to stay near bomb shelters. >> this is a severe and dangerous escalation. our defensive and offensive capabilities are at the highest level of readiness. >> a post on x by the iranian government, through their permanent mission to the un,

said the attack can be, quote, deemed concluded and warned the u.s. against getting involved, though u.s. military officials tell fox they have already shot down at least one iranian drone. president biden, returning to washington saturday night convening a meeting of the national security council, the white house maintaining its commitment to israel, is ironclad, saying in a statement. the united states will stand with the people of israel and support their defense against these threats from iran before this. iran had only targeted israel through proxy forces and avoided direct attacks. tonight's event, fueling fears about the possibility of a broader regional war. in tel aviv, yingst fox news. >> many of the drones and missiles launched by iran have been intercepted by israeli and u.s. forces. this means there has been little damage to israel . san jose state professor says that although today's strikes and tension in the region, she is hopeful that the u.s. will be able to keep them from fighting or for from from excuse me, from this escalation happening even

more, i think that, the us has been very, very, has been struggling and has been very, prompt in trying to cool things down in the area and urge caution, both in, israel as well as its other allies in the middle east. so i'm hopeful that after this barrage, we're going to see things calm down. >> so far, several people have been reportedly hurt by the strikes. no deaths have been reported today. in tel aviv, thousands of protesters gathered for another weekend of demonstrations against the israeli government. protesters are calling for prime minister benjamin netanyahu to resign. they are also demanding the government do more to bring back hostages taken in the october 7th attack. one protester says he believes netanyahu's military decisions are not prioritizing the hostages.

stay on top of the latest developments in these conflicts, you can go to our website ktvu.com. new at ten alleged victims of former windsor mayor dominic foppoli are speaking out. it comes weeks after attorney general rob bonta announced the state was suspending its investigation against foppoli, citing a lack of evidence to move forward with charges. ktvu is. bailey o'carroll was in santa rosa today hearing from victims as they share their emotional responses to the ag's decision. >> more than 1111 women, some involved in lawsuits, some not, have come forward against dominic foppoli. >> three years ago, then windsor mayor dominic foppoli became embroiled in multiple allegations of sexual assault and multiple civil lawsuits. foppoli was not prosecuted despite investigations by the sonoma county sheriff's office and state attorney general. >> when the state of california is telling all of its victims if someone has enough money and power to buy themselves out of

trouble and even if you reach out on a rape victim hotline and 14 other women say the same thing, you may walk free. >> farrah abraham and three other accusers, their attorneys, in a large crowd of community members, gathered outside of the sonoma civil and family court saturday to stand in solidarity and reiterate that they will not stop fighting for justice for the alleged victims. in a statement released at the end of march, the attorney general's office explained their decision, writing quote, at this time, we don't have enough evidence to warrant filing charges on the cases not barred by the statute of limitations. however, our investigation remains open and we urge anyone who believes they may be a victim or who has evidence to come forward. >> we will show why the ag just lacked the courage, if you will, to move forward in the criminal justice system, because again, we're going to forge forward and be undaunted by any decision that has been made. the attorney general's decision absolutely does not dictate our action. in fact, it kind of lights a little

fire under our rear. >> in an interview from his home in italy last month, foppoli said he believed the litigation didn't have much to stand on. >> i've been very, very clear since the beginning that there was no truth to any of this, and i'm just, i think glad that we're finally able to move on and hopefully start to heal. i was young, and through reflection and prayer, i realized, yeah, i wasn't a perfect partner. did i ever do anything criminally wrong or anything? inappro no. >> but alleged victims say healing for them will take years. in a written statement read aloud by attorney tracy carrillo, jane doe number six, who lives out of the country, said the following. it's sad to see that justice really is corrupt here too. i was expecting this response from the attorney general to be a release from pain. it doesn't make me optimistic about my healing. according to the attorneys, each of the victims, jane doe or those who are public, have civil

litigation pending. some of those already have court dates set not until 2025. others are still awaiting that in santa rosa. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu, fox two news. >> two san francisco county jails are on lockdown this weekend due to escalating attacks on deputies. a spokesperson for the sheriff's office says physical assaults on deputies and jail staff by incarcerated people have forced them to lock down county jail number two on seventh street and jail number three in san bruno. the sheriff's office says that since march 29th, seven workers at the jails have been attacked, resulting some of them in serious injuries. this lockdown means all visits, programs and services are canceled. the sheriff's office says it is now investigating what is contributing to the attacks, and normal operations are expected to resume next week. tonight, though, the san francisco deputy sheriffs association said it sent a letter to city and county officials asking them to request help from the california national guard to supplement staffing levels at the jails in contra costa county. five people, including four

firefighters, were injured when a fire engine truck was struck by a vehicle. it happened at about ten this morning in walnut creek on southbound interstate 680, just south of olympic boulevard. the fire truck was parked, blocking a freeway lane while firefighters tended to a previous traffic accident. a white prius struck the fire truck, injuring four firefighters. the driver of the prius was seriously hurt. all of the injured were taken to the hospital. a similar incident in fremont, where one person was injured when a fremont fire engine was hit not once, but twice, while it was parked at a traffic accident. the fire department posted this photo of the truck being towed. they responded to a crash at around seven this morning on northbound interstate 680, just south of the andrade exit. the fire truck was parked to protect the location of the crash, but ended up being struck by o cars at two different times. one of the drivers who hit the fire engine was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. nobody else was hurt and the highway patrol is investigating those two collisions. a hazmat crew responded to a hazardous

materials incident today in mountain view. the incident started just before 1 a.m. at a multi-family residence near the intersection of west el camino and del medio avenue. a 911 call reported a white residue inside of an envelope, with one scrabble letter inside del medio and west el camino's number three lane were closed off for almost two hours for the investigation. authorities later confirmed the substance was not a hazardous material, but over the counter hypertension drug ephedrine. one person received medical treatment at the scene, but no one was taken to the hospital. >> well, in weather did not feel like a springlike day out there. remember, just a couple of days ago we had 70s and 80s today we are looking for the coats and the sweaters with temperatures only in the 50s this afternoon. so take a look at the chilly highs for today. lots of 50s out towards san francisco and oakland and san jose a 59 degrees. we have the cool temperatures for today and of course the rain showers making a big comeback as well. take a

look at some of the rainfall totals. boulder creek over an inch of rain. santa rosa and oakland close to a half an inch. san jose 0.41 and redwood city 0.18. and cold enough that we could be talking about some snow. maybe tomorrow morning when the clouds clear out a little bit, might see a dusting of snow on some of the bay area hilltops, especially in the santa cruz mountains. i was seeing some snow flurries earlier today. this is our live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge with still mostly cloudy skies. the main rain band, though, has shifted to the south right around monterey bay, also impacting the santa cruz mountains. so this is the radar loop over the past four hours. and here's some of the coverage right now. the greens and the yellows indicating some heavier rainfall amounts closer to santa cruz, out toward boulder creek, right around scotts valley. it looks like we're still tracking some rain right around the palo alto area as well. and then the shower activity kind of diminishes as you do work your way to the south. this is all linked up with this very cold system. you can see that circulation moving over the central coast of california. there's still a chance of a shower near sunday forecast, but

appointed cherry blossom festival, now in its 57th year. ktvu zac sos was there earlier. he joins us live in studio now. and zach, from the looks of it, today's rainy weather really not completely hampering today's turnout. yeah perhaps a little bit, but still a pretty healthy crowd. >> given that chill in the air. the rain coming down. many i spoke to telling me this festival, it's one that they go to every year. an annual

tradition. so rain or shine, they were going to come out and well, some of those folks i spoke to ended up leaving perhaps a little damp. they did so with no regrets. >> the rhythmic beats of taiko drums once again echoing through the streets of san francisco's japantown. ushering in the return of the northern california cherry blossom festival, regarded as the second largest of its kind in the country. i think it's a really fun time, like spending it with a group of friends among those hoping to snap a photo of the famous flowering trees celebrated by the event, only to discover the blossoms a bit shy this year in peace plaza. >> i hope they come out soon. >> still plenty else to do. nearby vendors offering a wide variety of japanese delicacies and other asian inspired cuisine. >> we came for like from about an hour away, but it was totally worth it. like this mochi. this mochi was really, really good and i also got some of the matcha ice cream. >> if you dance down a vendor

with the perfect sales pitch. as the rain once again began to come down fresh and good for a cloudy day like today, stu instead opting for a bowl of the skinnier noodles. japan has become known the world over for the ramen. >> yeah, we went and had some ramen leaving us with this review. >> the food's good, the weather's not bad. all right, a few steps away, chris drawn here by chance from the aromas wafting through the streets. >> we stopped and thought, well, what the heck, let's get something to eat. and now we have a beyonce part of the fun of this festival with so much unique and unexpected at every corner. >> i really love all the foods, all the different vendors coming out. it's really fun to see all the all the really cool stuff that we could purchase in support items like these origami inspired crafts from judy moo. >> i designed them based on the actual origami folds. yeah, like the cats and the butterflies. >> grateful to be given the opportunity to showcase her works. a lot of people want to be here. >> unfortunately, they're only

into the southern half of the bay area. you can see that circulation, that area of low pressure just off our coastline. here's a closer look at the radar imagery. you can see all the rainfall here. and then also out toward the sierra, picking up some snowfall in the mountains. in fact, you know, the snowfall. no winter storm warnings or anything like that. but still, we're still adding to the snowpack as we do approach mid-april here is the radar coverage over the past few hours. you can see clearly the band right now is focused in the santa cruz mountains, approaching the peninsula. so there's some of the coverage right now closer to the santa cruz mountains and then also up in portions of the peninsula. and we'll also check out some of the current wind reports. it has been windy throughout the day, napa gusting to 30 miles an hour. oakland winds at about 12 miles an hour. you can see san jose winds at about 12 miles an hour and half moon bay. we have winds gusting at 24 miles an hour. so here is our camera. once again. we'll show you some of the current numbers. we have cooled off into the 40s for santa rosa, concord 46 and san jose right now checking in 50 degrees. overnight temperatures will be on the cool side

sports in oakland permanently closed its doors today. shoppers came in to shop those closing sales on the final day. the store says it's always been independent, locally owned and owner operated. since 2018, it is also been a 100% woman owned business. when father tells us transports had a significant impact on the community. >> it's an institution that's always supported, local runners and local running teams. they've employed, you know, high school kids, you know, it's going to be a loss for the community. >> and shoppers tell us they will miss this store as a

gathering spot. it was known for hosting regular weekly events such as yoga and pub and trail runs. habitat for humanity hosted a celebration at walnut creek today, marking the completion of 23 new affordable housing units. here's a look at some of those new townhomes at esperanza place. on this way, they're constructed under a zero net energy model, so they produce more energy than they consume. habitat for humanity says the units are all going to low and moderate income people, who are often priced out of the bay area housing market. one family tells us. esperanza place will be a life changer. >> i constantly live in fear of displacement, and what that would mean to cesar and the disruption of his routine, so being a homeowner gives me peace of mind, that will be able to take care of cesar. in the long run. in the future, the esperanza place project was funded through government partners grants and community donations. >> a bart station in the east

bay is closed this weekend. bart has closed richmond station today and tomorrow as it works to replace track that allows trains to move safely from line to line. the agency says crews are also addressing vegetation that could impact service free. busses are replacing trains this weekend between richmond and el cerrito del norte stations. the station is still open for the bus bridge, and amtrak passengers, and bart is planning a special sendoff for the last of its legacy trains next saturday, april 20th, bart is hosting a retirement ceremony for the very last run of its legacy trains. they're made up of rail cars that serve the bay area for more than 50 years. that ceremony will be held at the macarthur bart station. most of the old bart cars are being recycled for metal scraps. >> random guy just stabbing people. yeah, just a mad guy i was stabbing. >> rampage injures several people at a shopping center on australia. coming up, how one person was able to stop the suspect and police in the east

attack today at a sydney shopping center. the assailant confronted and shot by a heroic police officer who ran in on her own. fox's stephanie bennett shows us reactions to this incident from around the world. >> multiple people are dead and several others are injured after a stabbing attack at a shopping center. just a couple miles away from the popular tourist destination of bondi beach. the australian prime minister calling the police officer a hero today after she ran towards

the attacker, challenged him before firing the fatal shot. the prime minister says the devastating scenes are beyond words or understanding. >> it would appear that this person has a lacked acted alone. the motives are not known yet and speculation on that would not be helpful at this time. >> king charles the third, issuing a statement as well, saying he and the queen were utterly shocked and horrified by the senseless attack and that their hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed. australia has some of the world's toughest gun and knife laws, and attacks such as this one are rare. crowds could be seen fleeing the westfield complex at bondi junction, and witnesses say people hid inside stores until the police could evacuate them. >> random guy just stabbing people? yeah, just a mad guy. >> super unusual, especially to happen out in public and something seemingly random like that as well. yeah. just shocking.

>> police at this stage do not believe this was terrorism related in london. stephanie bennett, fox news. police are searching for a shooter that injured a person in san francisco's tenderloin district. >> the shooting happened at sixth and jesse streets around 445 this morning. police say officers found a victim who had been shot at the scene. paramedics transported that person to a local hospital for life threatening injuries. no details were given about a potential suspect and no arrests have been made. in oakland, a neighborhood saw a large police response to reports of a suspicious person parked inside of a car, or rather, inside a parked car. police say they received a call at about 1045 this morning from the area of brookdale and courtland avenues. when officers arrived, the suspect inside the car was unresponsive. they say he was eventually awakened and tried to run off, but officers managed to catch up with him and take him into custody. officers say the suspect was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants on monday. a historic moment as former president donald trump will be

the first former president to ever sit in a trial as a criminal defendant. the criminal case surrounds hush money payments to his alleged mistresses before the 2016 election. stormy daniels and karen mcdougal, a judge in new york, denied mr. trump's request to delay proceedings friday. the former president had said pretrial publicity would deny him a fair trial. he's accused of using his business to cover up reimbursements to his former lawyer and fixer, michael cohen. it's the first of four indictments to go to trial. >> i think if you look at all the cases pending against the president, this quite naturally doesn't feel like the most serious one. but there are some big charges here. this is a felony case. i don't expect that even if he's convicted, he would serve any jail time. >> trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records, jury selection begins monday, and the trial is expected to last six weeks. this week, oj simpson died at the age

of 76 due to cancer. the bay area native was known as a hall of fame football player and actor who was tried and acquitted of double murder. attorney gloria allred represented the family of nicole brown simpson during the trial of the century. she joined our show. the issue is with her reaction to simpson's passing. >> i don't mourn his loss. i do mourn the loss of nicole brown simpson and the impact it's had had on her three sisters and nicole and tanya and dominique, and i feel sad for his children, sydney and justin, who are now adults and who now have neither a father nor a mother alive, and i feel really sad for, you know, the loss of ron goldman, but that's pretty much it, i think, you know, mr. simpson just decided he was above the law and could get away with anything. he became increasingly emboldened. and he's paid the consequences,

maybe not as much paying of the consequences as many people think he should pay. but he did. >> we'll have more with attorney gloria allred this week on our political show. the issue is it airs tomorrow morning from 630 to 7 right here on ktvu. a bill aimed at changing how california students are taught to read has died without a hearing. this week, assembly bill 2222 died without a hearing and the proposal would have required instruction in what's often referred to as the science of reading. this is a teaching method focusing on phonics instruction and showing kids how to sound out words. instead of teaching kids to learn words through the pictures and context of a story, california's largest teachers union opposed this bill. april 15th. the tax deadline is just around the corner. returns are due at 11:59 p.m. on monday night, unless you file for an extension. as fox's christina coleman reports, a brand new program allows some california taxpayers and easy

and free way to file if you put off filing your taxes. >> until now, the clock is ticking. for most of us, the deadline is monday. the irs says it's received over 100 million returns so far, but if you're one of the roughly 1 in 4 americans who've waited until the last minute, it could be a source of stress and anxiety. >> we have the pressure of doing it right and getting the deadline in on time, and feeling worried about what might happen if i make a mistake, what might happen if i owe more on taxes than i'm expecting? >> but it doesn't have to be that way. experts say. just take it one step at a time. ask for help from family and friends or a tax professional if you need it, and focus on self care if you're feeling stressed, if you're in one of these 12 states in may, $79,000 or less last year, you can file for free on the irs website thanks to the new direct file pilot program just rolled out this year. if you file electronically, you should expect any refund you're owed within three weeks. and if you opt for direct deposit,

are moving forward. this month, the oakland planning commission will consider allowing bay area real estate company prognosis to build a new industrial complex along the waterfront right now, the site, at 3600 alameda avenue is home to old owens brockway glass manufacturing plant. prognosis says it wants to demolish the plant and build a 430,000 square foot complex that could be used for research, development and industrial operations. a staff report from the oakland planning commission says this redevelopment would create jobs in the city. salt lake city, expected to be announced as the host city for the 2034 winter olympic games, and local officials say they are ready and eager to claim their hosting bid. fox thirteen's ben winslow ben winslow has more on the effort to bring the games back to utah. >> are you going to members of the international olympic committee's future host commission toured the utah

news. >> today, caltrain tested out its new electric trains in san francisco. here's a video now of one of those trains gliding along the trails. today's tests are part of caltrans goal to begin electric passenger service this coming fall. morning and late night service between san francisco and mountain view is also adjusted this weekend. and next to accommodate this train testing. higher elevations of the bay area saw a dusting of snow today. cal fire shared this video of some snowfall at its training center in ben lomond. wasn't much, and it didn't stick to the ground, but still an unusual sight here. in mid-april . joining us now is meteorologist mark tamayo, who is tracking our current conditions. hi, mark. >> hi there. christina. yeah, great to see that snow video. in fact, it's cold enough you might have imagined. it's cold enough to have some snowfall. and yeah, the higher peaks of the bay area. temperatures pretty steady all day long, mainly in the lower 30s, out toward mount diablo, mount hamilton, as you

saw the santa cruz mountains picking up some snowfall. take a look, though, in the liquid form. some rainfall to report over the past 24 hours. boulder creek over an inch of rain. santa rosa 0.52, san jose 0.41 and redwood city, 0.18. now in terms of the warming trend, it's not going to warm up much tomorrow. but we will definitely warm things up into next week. you will notice that change by tuesday and wednesday 70s and some lower 80s. for right now though, we still have this cool unsettled pattern over the bay area. you can see that's a circulation. this area of low pressure, this produce of course, the front of this morning that had the rainfall, then off and on showers into the afternoon hours and out in the sierra picking up some snow showers as well. here's a closer look at our radar imagery. right now. we're not completely dry. we're still tracking some rain. as you can see, this is the radar loop just over the past three hours or so. you can see some more coverage in portions of the santa cruz mountains and up in portions of the peninsula. so the rainfall definitely picking up right now, as you can see, closer to a santa cruz, boulder creek and scotts valley, also right around felton and

then moving the maps up to the north here we still have some coverage closer to south san francisco, redwood city, and palo alto. so we're still we still dealing with some of the rain showers out there and some cool winds. right now you can see winds at least on these panels. some areas not so bad, but napa right now is a wind gust of up to 30 miles an hour. san jose winds at about 12 miles an hour, and half moon bay winds gusting to 16 miles an hour. here's our live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge. still solid cloud cover in place and for tonight and into tomorrow, we could still be tracking some scattered showers. but overall, in general, an improvement at least compared to today. current numbers right now mainly in the 40s out there. and we'll start things off tomorrow morning. on the cool side. definitely want to bundle up with temperatures in the 40s. so mostly cloudy skies. this is the area of low pressure. it was up here a couple days ago but it's moving down the coastline. it will eventually move on out to the east, but just close enough that we're going to hold on to the clouds and maybe that shower chance in your sunday forecast.

here's the big change though setting up by monday, tuesday and wednesday. this area of high pressure wants to resurface. this will push the storm track to the north and that's this will also warm up the bay area. we showed you that warming trend and eventually the warmest locations back up close to 80 degrees. here's the forecast model. here we are tomorrow morning, 8:00. mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. the chance of a few scattered showers or a few sprinkles. this particular update wants to bring in another band at 5:00, up in portions of the north bay, and the kind of falling apart as it moves to the south. and then on monday, we will completely clear out those rain chances and our warming trend will begin. highs for tomorrow. actually a little bit warmer than today. upper 50s and some lower 60s out there. so lots of cloud cover and the chance of a shower. and here is a look ahead. your five day forecast. it is a quiet one with partly sunny skies into monday. christina, look what happens. we're going to go back on the roller coaster back up into the 80s for wednesday into thursday. so this time of year is always
