as the country's president, the foreign minister and other officials died in a helicopter crash. the new details we're finding out this morning about that crash and what will happen next with iran's leadership. plus when officers arrived on scene, the suspect was still actively discharging a firearm, prompting an officer involved shooting. the lates from s jose, where a man is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after he was shot by san jose police officers. what we now know as investigators continue to collect evidence at the scene from ktvu.

>> fox two news. this is mornings on two. >> well, good morning to you and thank you for joining us. welcome to mornings on two i'm dave clark. good morning i'm pam cook. >> it's monday may 20th. nice weekend weather. yeah it was a little breezy. let's check in with steve paulson for our forecast. >> a little warmer next couple of days here but nothing dramatic or anything but 40s 50s on the temps. some fog out there, most of it favors areas south of san francisco. 40s 50s on the temps here. if you want a little more sunshine, today's to your liking. i think that fog will burn off much sooner today and temperatures about where they should be this time of year. 60s, 70s to near 80. all right, 4:00 in the morning. sal is here. i did not see any cones . >> yeah, there are some cones on 37. you didn't come that way. 37 has cones until 5:00 in the morning for that repaving. they're doing. also, we have some police activity. i put the arrow right there. just off the freeway on 92 at 880. a bunch of police activity off the freeway doesn't seem to be affecting

traffic. however, i haven't seen any cars on this ramp in the last few minutes. maybe just because it's early, but we're going to keep an eye on it for you and let you know there goes a car. okay, so it doesn't seem to be affecting the freeway, but definitely off the off the freeway on off ramp there. 401. let's get back to the headlines. all right. >> thank you. sal. we are learning this morning that the president of iran has been killed in the weekend helicopter crash. iran state run tv network reported early today that ibrahim raisi died when his helicopter crashed into a mountain in dense fog yesterday in a remote part of northwestern iran. iran's foreign minister was also killed in the crash, along with several other government leaders. iran's president was known as a hard line ruler who showed no mercy in his response to protests in tehran and other iranian cities. >> spent most of his life in the judiciary. in the 1980s, which was the bloodiest decade of the islamic republic, where

thousands of dissidents were executed. >> raisi was widely expected to become the next supreme leader of iran. his death comes just one month after iran launched an unprecedented missile and drone attack on israel. it will likely add to the turmoil in the middle east. stay with us here on mornings on two for complete coverage of this developing story. >> our time is now 402 later. later today, michael cohen, donald trump's former lawyer, is expected to be back on the witness stand in the new york criminal trial of the former president, testifying about campaign finances. now, cohen is one of the final witnesses the prosecution will be calling. cohen previously said he made hush money payments on behalf of trump to adult movie star stormy daniels. trump insists he did nothing wrong, and that this trial is an attempt to keep him off the campaign trail. with less than six months left until election day. >> prosecution's case is so weak that it's very hard to imagine

that anyone can look at this and think that president trump is truly guilty of a crime because he is not. >> now, this trial may possibly end this week. and the judge told the lawyers, be ready to make closing arguments as soon as tomorrow. >> california republicans have wrapped up their state convention in burlingame, south dakota governor kristi noem was among the out of state speakers who addressed the convention over the weekend. she has been criticized recently for her new book that includes her bizarre story about shooting and killing her dog. however the vice presidential contender largely laughed off the controversy and urged california republicans to support donald trump. >> i don't think it's about republicans and democrats anymore. i don't think it's about political parties. i think it is about people who love america and people who are trying to destroy america. >> registered democrats still outnumber republicans in california 2 to 1, but republican leaders say their party slowly but surely attracting more voters in this

longtime blue state. >> when we run smart races, when we recruit great candidates like we're doing, we can win these seats. and that's what's going to help make the difference. >> in a statement, the chairman of the california democratic party said in part, while this weekend's gathering of california republicans is just another stop on trump's vice president audition tour, california democrats are convening to lead the resistance against trump and the republican party's extremist agenda. >> tom is now 400 for the federal judge who sentenced david to pap, the man convicted of attacking the husband of congresswoman nancy pelosi, says she will reopen the sentencing portion of the case. the judge said she made an error by not giving the pap a chance to speak in court. on friday, the pap was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the break in and attack. two years ago at the pelosi's home in san francisco. now, the new sentencing date is may 28th. well, some new details from san jose about a shooting by san

jose police. >> s it happened yesterday afternoon and ended with a suspect with life threatening injuries. ktvu lamonica peters was at the scene of the shooting and tells us what she is hearing from police. >> san jose police say around 4:11 p.m. sunday afternoon, they responded to a call of someone shooting a gun on comer drive. >> i probably counted about like maybe 15 cop cars got off on capitol. was waiting on delay on story and just cop after cop after cop. >> police say they don't know what prompted the shooting. >> when officers arrived on scene, the suspect was still actively discharging a firearm, prompting an officer involved shooting. >> witnesses say a silver van may have been involved in the shooting incident. sergeant garibay says after officers shot the suspect, the person was given medical aid at the scene by emergency responders. >> anders, we can't tell you that no officers were struck by gunfire at this time. the suspect was hit by officer gunfire and was transported to a local hospital with life

threatening injuries. >> police didn't provide any other information about the suspect and say they'll need time to process any witness or video information. >> we are constantly taking walks and, it's a little alarming to know that that happened here. >> so lamonica peters ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you. lamonica two women have been arrested in san pablo accused of leading police on a chase while driving drunk. police say they saw the woman's car run a stop sign friday night and almost crashed into another car. they also say the women kept switching seats during the pursuit and were swerving all over the road. police ended up using a spike strip to stop the car. they say both women were heavily intoxicated. >> it is now 406. there's a new location in benicia for a monument honoring a world war two hero. a ceremony was held over the weekend in downtown benicia, celebrating the new home for the statue honoring 97 year-old harold bray, the last survivor of the attack on the uss indianapolis in july of

1945. the monument built in his honor is now at eunice jensen park after it was moved from near the city's clock tower. harold bray served the city of benicia for years after his service during world war two. >> he's a citizen of benicia. he raised his family in benicia. he was a benicia police officer for 19 years. a special kind of police officer because he was an advocate for children into town. >> now, harold bray was awarded the purple heart for his bravery after the attack on his battleship near the end of world war two. hundreds of americans were killed when two torpedoes fired from a japanese marine hit their ship for five days. the survivors fought off sharks, starvation, and the cold water in the pacific ocean. >> 2000 graduate student workers at uc santa cruz say they will go on strike this morning. the walkout involves teaching assistants, researchers and other academic workers. their union leaders say the strike is to protest the uc system's

recent crackdown on pro-palestinian demonstrations on college campuses across the state. it's still not clear how long the strike will last. uc administrators say the walkout violates the no strike clause in the student workers contract. >> well, there's still no electricity for many people in houston, texas, after thunderstorms and hurricane force winds swept through that city, the crews have been working around the clock to restore power for more than 240,000 homes and businesses. full service is expected to be back by wednesday. at least seven people were killed in those very destructive storms. >> less fog today, you know, less fog, less fog is in town and it'll clear. and then after that, temperatures will bump up. today so we'll actually go 80 in santa rosa, even though the forecast highs have been way too bullish today. we'll go with that for santa rosa the city bumping up a little bit, livermore to 79 and redwood city from 73 to 76. that's the spirit. redwood city a little

bit of fog out there, mainly about the city south along san mateo coast down to santa cruz. water temps are darn cold. point arena 49 point ray's 50. the city 52. our city. excuse me, san francisco boy, that's cold, cold water here as we head towards the end of may, almost a little bit of a low setting up shop here you can see the circulation around it. right there. right there. that's a little low, but so for some it's a south wind, for others it's a little northerly breeze. the key though is out towards travis and it's not that strong. concord south oakland west. so and it's calm to the north 40s on the temps are low 50s mainly 40s on the temps here. 46 occidental 46, ukiah 49. napa and sonoma is down to 45. san anselmo in there. ross, fairfax and novato all at 4630s up in the mountains, 38 arcata. how about that to 57 los angeles 61 san diego a couple of lows, just kind of hanging around. but for the next couple of days, we'll get a little bit of a bump up on those temps. then i think they come back down towards the end

stecker and his dog never came back from what was supposed to be a one day hike. the two left on friday. they were believed to be hiking the ohlone wilderness trail between sunol park and del valle regional park. we're told mr. stecker is in his mid-fifties. he was wearing the same clothing you see in this photo, a long sleeved green shirt, black pants and a khaki hat and the man is expected to survive after driving off a cliff along highway one and was ejected almost 350ft from his car. this happened sunday, about 8:00 in the morning, the sonoma county sheriff's office says the car's automatic crash notification system alerted 911, and that provided dispatchers with the location of the crash. helicopter crews then found a man about 300ft beneath the car. officials say he was critically injured. he was flown to a hospital to get treatment.

>> just in the last few minutes. the container ship that caused the partial collapse of the francis scott key bridge in baltimore has been refloated. it is being moved from the crash site. the ship has not moved since it hit the bridge back in march, killing six construction workers. the crash has impacted the port of baltimore, which is one of the busiest in the country. congress is still debating how much money to put towards rebuilding the bridge. >> your time now 414. investigators are searching for the cause of a weekend fire on yerba buena island. it caused major traffic jams on the bay bridge. it was a brush fire. it broke out saturday afternoon, causing a huge plume of smoke, and also shut down the eastbound lanes of the bay bridge. dozens of firefighters battled the flames for more than two hours before those lanes could reopen. investigators say the fire did not damage any buildings. >> the state department sent out a rare warning, telling members of the lgbtq community to exercise caution while traveling overseas. now, the agency warned

about what it described as the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrate or other violent actions against u.s. citizens and tourist locations, and pride celebrations. the warning comes just two weeks before the start of pride month, which is observed in june. the travel warning from the state department also comes at the same time san francisco is getting ready to celebrate harvey milk day. the celebration is wednesday, may 22nd, which is which was harvey milk's birthday this weekend. the community came together to kick off the celebration early and say it's a reminder that more work needs to be done. >> a lot of heat right now. queer, trans and drag queens actually are under attack. the legislation that they're trying to pass in this country, of all places in america in 2024 is mind boggling. >> san francisco city leaders say they are increasing efforts to support and celebrate the community. right now, they are working on building the country's first lgbtq museum and

research center. >> our time now for 16 frontier airlines says it will no longer charge fees for flight changes or flight cancellations. it's part of an overhaul of the airline's longtime pricing model aimed at being transparent. frontier says it will now present its ford travel class options up front. the airline has been criticized for attracting customers with low base fares, then adding fees for things like seat assignments and carry on baggage. >> blue origin has launched its latest mission to space with six tourists on board 210 ignition. the company, which is owned by amazon founder jeff bezos, sent the rocket into space from a launch pad in the texas desert. one person on board retired air force captain ed dwight, who played a historic role in america's space program. he was chosen to be the first black astronaut candidate in the early 1960s, but he never got to go to

space until now. >> is absolutely terrific. and the views i mean, just even i couldn't see it. i could see. absolutely fantastic. absolutely this is changing experience are wouldn't experience. >> nice to hear from him. the flight into space lasted about ten minutes. the 90 year old dwight is now the oldest person to travel into space, surpassing william shatner by two months. >> our time now for 17 road crews expected to complete two major bay area highway resurfacing projects during the night in the north bay, eastbound lanes of highway 37 between sonoma and solano counties are still closed during the resurfacing. that road reopened before the morning commute today, and a little less traffic jams for drivers commuting through the east bay. caltrans shared this video of the work crews finishing the work on part of southbound

interstate 680 between san ramon and pleasanton. the partial closures continued until 4:00 this morning. more work is scheduled in that area for the first weekend of june. >> all right. back over to steve paulson to check in on our monday morning forecast. >> looks good and a lot more sunshine today and we'll warm it up here a couple of lows. one to the north, one to the southwest. but the fog bank has been chewed up for the most part. there's a little bit out there, but we'll bump temps up here. they've been well below average. it's been a cool spring, no doubt about it. so you expect some kind of warm up and we'll get it for today and tomorrow. 80 santa rosa 66 in the city, 80 livermore and 76 in redwood city. a little bit of fog, but you can see how everything is starting to move offshore as we get more of a little bit of an offshore breeze. but boy, those water temps really cold though. 49 5052 so again, it won't take long to get that fog back, but probably won't be for a couple of days. there is a little bit of a northerly breeze for some southerly for others there's a

low hanging out right right about on the bay bridge. you see the circulation around that. so that's giving a west southwest southerly breeze in the oakland berkeley hills. but pittsburgh, atlas peak, mount veeder, all north, mount diablo north, big rock north. so a little bit of a dichotomy there, a little, you know, trying to work its way into more of an offshore breeze. but at the surface it's west, south or southwest, but not that strong 40s on the temps for most low 50s, upper 40s, low 50s. clayton's at 46 degrees, 49 for pinole, 49 kensington. orinda 48 lafayette at one castro valley and air north dublin. but mid 50s brentwood and also pittsburgh 3234 truckee south lake tahoe 74. down in las vegas 5060s in the valley. but look at arcata-eureka 38. man that's cold. that might have to see if that's a record low. i have to check that. otherwise we are looking for a couple of days of sunshine, maybe a little activity popping up in the mountains, but for us it looks quiet. it does look like it will be cooler towards the end of the week, but the next couple of

multi-purpose sports courts and play structures. >> the raider nation is mourning the death of hall of famer center jim otto. otto was the first draft pick ever for the oakland raiders back in 1960, spent his entire 15 year career with the silver and black, the legendary center played in the super bowl. super bowl number two. the raiders first appearance in the super bowl. in january 1968, he was inducted into the pro football hall of fame 12 years later. the raiders announced his death yesterday. jim otto was 86 years old. >> he was a legend. our time for 23. one of the bay area's top high school athletes, held a free football camp for kids this weekend in danville. dozens of children showed up for the first annual marco jones football skills camp at san ramon valley high school. it was a completely free event. it also raised money for the bay area based charity helmets for helmets. it provides protective gear to young athletes who have epilepsy, a condition the san ramon valley

linebacker had when he was just a kid. some local pop warner players say they learned a lot at the camp. >> yeah, i wrote a lot of agility and getting me ready for the season this fall. work hard. yeah work hard and you get things done. uh.huh there was also a raffle too, and some of the lucky children won new sunglasses. >> the giants hope to extend their longest winning streak of the season when they take on the pittsburgh pirates tomorrow. on the road, the giants won their fourth straight game, beating the colorado rockies 4 to 1 and sweeping the weekend series. elliott ramos hit a 400 foot home run over the center field wall with. that's his first homer of the season. and there's more good news as big money free agent pitcher blake snell will come off the injured list and start the game on wednesday, the a's will try to break an eight game losing streak when they're back at the coliseum tomorrow to face the rockies. the a's were swept by the kansas city royals, losing yesterday's game 8 to 4.

the a's actually outhit the royals but could not take advantage of their scoring chances. it was one of the worst road trips in team history. the a's lost nine of ten games. >> our time now for 25. a graffiti artist in los angeles, took his artwork to some daring new heights. 40 stories about downtown l.a. benjamin schneider balanced along a one inch wide slack line between two skyscrapers. there he is. schneider says. he snuck into the empty buildings and used a drone to string a line between the buildings. 500ft up. he called the stunt a symbolic meaning. >> the idea is the line represents like the line of life. so on one side you have like birth, the other side you have death, and there's a line that connects it through, kind of like your timeline and i had to walk from one side to the other, balancing on life now for months, the police have patrolled these buildings, trying to stop trespassers and taggers.

turned out to be not a big delay for traffic 92 at 880 in hayward. so things are doing okay. we do have a nice light drive at the bay bridge toll plaza. it looks very nice. highway 37 roadwork is still closed. 37 between 29 and vallejo. all the way out to sears point 121. it should open at five. and boy, they're there. coming right up to the line here. but the authorities say it should be open on five at 5:00 for the morning commute. 430 let's go back to the headlines, okay. >> thank you. sal we're following some breaking news out of oakland this morning. police have several blocks of downtown oakland shut down for an investigation. we're still working to confirm with police what happened. but video from the scene shows a car crashed into a construction site at the corner of 14th and jefferson. and that car has what appears to be bullet holes in the front windshield. this is right outside the oakland federal building. stay with us here. on

mornings on two, we're going to stay on top of this breaking news story. there in downtown oakland. >> time now for 31. we also have developing news coming in from the middle east. iranian president ibrahim raisi died in a helicopter crash. it crashed in the mountainous northwestern part of iran while flying through very dense fog yesterday . nine people in that helicopter were killed, including iran's foreign minister, iran's supreme leader named an acting president and foreign minister, saying there will be no disruption to the iranian government's work. >> family and friends are mourning the death of a homeless man who was well known and beloved in the community. police are now searching for his killer. >> ktvu is joey horton sat down with the people who knew him. >> there's now a growing memorial outside the antioch gas station, where 48 year-old raheem coe, who was homeless, would often hang out. >> he was around here. he was up here every day and he had a good

spirit on us. and he always good, good advice to everybody. >> police say a report of a man down on the sidewalk led first responders to the antioch health center along country hills drive just after 7 a.m. on wednesday, where rahim was found to be lifeless. >> it appears to be blunt force trauma at this point. >> crime scene investigators could be seen collecting a stone about the size of a grapefruit as evidence he didn't deserve to die like that. >> although he was homeless, he was like he was like family, you know? >> he's a good dude, close friend harold moore, who at one point experienced homelessness himself, was shocked by the loss. i couldn't believe it. >> i never cried so much in my life, moore says. >> rahim struggled with mental illness, but the two of them had many heart to heart conversations to help rahim get his life back together. >> this is what it is, man. some people have compassion, some don't. >> the organization facing homelessness does street outreach in antioch. connecting the unhoused with shelter, rehabilitation and counseling. but director nicole gardner says

antioch doesn't have the resources to meet the need. >> we don't have enough in the city, and we are definitely lacking it in the county as well. these are real people. they have families that love them and care about them. they're good people. >> a mural on the nonprofit's bus lists the names of dozens of homeless people who have died in just the last year and a half. >> we just need to stop the violence now. >> this marks antioch's fifth homicide of the year. police do not have a suspect in this case. they are asking anyone who may have dash cam video from country hills drive from midnight to 7 a.m. on may 15th to give them a call in antioch. joey hornick ktvu, fox two news. >> all right, joey, thank you. the mayor of antioch is traveling to china to promote the city's deep water ports and industrial region. mayor lamar hernandez thorpe will be meeting with government and business leaders in hong kong and chongqing. the trip will focus on green developments and expanding international relationships.

>> we're going to be promoting our opportunities for sister city relationship. that's, that's something that i learned was critically important when we spoke to secretary blinken when i was at the us conference of mayors. he said, we need to keep promoting these opportunities so that overall relations with china, continue to get better as opposed to going sour. >> now, the mayor's trip is organized by china silicon valley. it's a nonprofit group founded in 2012 to help with business and cultural exchange between china and silicon valley . mayor will the mayor will be there until sunday. it is now 430 for the united states is renewing its efforts to reach a cease fire deal in gaza. over the weekend, the white house national security adviser jake sullivan met with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu in jerusalem. they talked about israel's postwar plan. now the united states is pushing for an agreement that would see saudi arabia and israel work together

to reach a two state solution. president biden says he's working to end the fighting all together, as the war between israel and hamas is almost in its eighth month. >> what's happening in gaza in israel is heartbreaking. it's a humanitarian crisis in gaza. that's why i've called for an immediate cease fire. >> now, israel may be headed towards a political crisis. a member of israel's war cabinet and a key rival of israeli prime minister netanyahu threatened to quit if israel doesn't come up with a better plan for gaza in the nation's capital, former white house press secretary jen psaki delivered a keynote address at george washington university's graduation. >> outside the ceremony, hundreds of protesters made their voices heard every step. demonstrators held signs and chanted support for palestine. the protests are just some of dozens that have erupted on college campuses across the us,

resulting in thousands of arrests. >> time now for 36. while president biden's appearance at morehouse college in atlanta at a commencement speech was peaceful, some of the students held a silent protest over the biden administration's stance on the israel-hamas war. some of the graduates at the all male, historically black college turned their seats and their backs as president biden was speaking, faculty members stood with her back facing the stage and her fist was raised. the president, biden told the crowd he was committed to helping bring about a peaceful solution in the middle east. >> i support peaceful, nonviolent protest. your voices should be heard and i promise you, i hear them. i'm working to make sure we finally get a two state solution. the only solution for two people to live in peace, security and dignity. >> now, the speech yesterday comes as president biden is trying to win the votes of young

park this week, as it continues to recover from a devastating wildfire. the 2020 ccu fire burned 97% of big basin redwoods state park in santa cruz county. the free shuttle marks the biggest increase in service since the park reopened in july of 2022. the shuttles will run from 9:00 in the morning until 6 p.m, beginning memorial day weekend through labor day. it's a chance for visitors to see all of the regrowth and signs of wildlife coming back to the forest. >> well, some volunteers spent their sunday cleaning a popular road in the oakland hills. the east bay trash pandas have been meeting twice a month since last year, removing litter and trash from illegal dumping on grizzly peak boulevard. so far, the group has removed more than 17 tons of waste. they've also been pushing for basic services along that stretch of road. >> this is really the best view in the bay area, and it's a real

mourning the death of a legend. hall of fame center jim otto. otto was the very first draft pick ever for the oakland raiders back in 1960. he spent his entire 15 year career with the raiders. the legendary center played in super bowl 2 in 1968. the raiders first appearance in the super bowl. he was inducted into pro football's hall of fame 12 years later.

the headlines. all right. >> thank you. sal, we are waiting for an update from san jose police this morning after officers shot a man who was firing a gun in a residential neighborhood. ktvu is ali rasmus joins us now to talk about the man's condition and details on the investigation. ali >> well, pam, we are at homer and story roads and you can see behind us police still have the area closed off more than 13 hours after this initially happened. we see this road behind us closed and then part of a shopping center. around the corner is closed off as well. and there's a police command unit that's parked there, this all started around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. people called 911 to report a man firing a gun in their neighborhood. police came to the scene here at colmar and story roads. they said the man continued to fire his weapon, so police shot at him, striking and seriously injuring him for several hours. the neighborhood was closed off for the investigation, and part of it remains closed. this morning. >> i probably counted about like

in their half moon bay, burned through a storage facility. now. it started early saturday morning on airport street in the princeton by the sea community. cal fire says the flames spread from a trailer to the storage business. eight storage units were damaged, but the owner of the business says only one of those units was badly damaged.

all right. there they went. the runners and walkers left that starting line on howard street yesterday morning for the seven and a half mile race across san francisco. they passed through nine san francisco neighborhoods before hitting that finish line along the great highway and ocean beach. this is the 113th year of the race known as one of the world's biggest street parties. >> it's like there's nothing else like this in the city. or like the country kind of or not kind of. yeah. so just because there's nothing else like it, like naked people costumes, running all the great things. >> now, the first group of serious runners reached that finish line in less than 40 minutes. thousands more or less competitive runners took their time to finish that race. so they could enjoy the party all along that route. the annual oakland greek festival wrapped up over the weekend, and up on a frosty bottle. >> visitors enjoyed a variety of greek food, including grilled meat skewers and pastries. musicians used traditional greek

there soon at 601. let's get back to the headlines. >> okay, sal. thank you. well, this morning we're learning that the president of iran was killed over the weekend in a helicopter crash. yeah. >> now, there are questions about what that could mean for the balance of power in iran and tensions in the middle east. ktvu is andre senior joining us now with maybe what happens next. yep >> all right. let's get an update on the story. what happened over the weekend here. this crash happened yesterday in low visibility. but overnight the iranian government confirmed president ebrahim raisi and the country's foreign minister were both killed in this crash. now we're getting new video from turkish media and iranian state tv of the site where the crash happened. you see it here near the border of iran and azerbaijan, and you can see the foggy conditions when that helicopter crashed into the mountains. now, raisi was widely expected to be the next supreme leader of iran, since the current leader of the country is 85 years old. and while the supreme leader has appointed an interim president, there are questions about the future of the country's government.

>> i think people are going to see this as as potentially an opportunity, for protests or instability in iran, obviously the loss of the head of state and the foreign minister is a very big deal, what the islamic republic is, is going to do instead is to show, that its processes and its institutions will continue to function, and people must be assured that there will be no disturbed voices in the country's affairs. >> now, raisi was known as a hard line leader who oversaw the execution of thousands in the 1980s and came down hard on those protests. we told you about back in 2022 on the streets of tehran. some people mourned raisi, but others were less sure of his legacy. >> he tried to carry out his duties well, but i don't think he was as successful as he should have been. he did carry out his duties. i'm not saying that he didn't, but he was a bit

home, oakland police are investigating what appears to be a shooting just outside of the oakland federal building. now we're trying to confirm specific details of this incident, but video from the scene shows a car crashed into a construction site at the corner of 14th and jefferson. the front windshield of this car seems to have bullet holes in it. there's no word about any injuries at this point. the police closed off several blocks of downtown oakland to conduct the investigation. now, make sure you stay right here with mornings on two. we'll bring you more on this breaking story from downtown oakland. >> an armed suspect remains in the hospital this morning after being shot and wounded by san jose police. it happened shortly after 4:00 yesterday afternoon on kolmar drive near the east capitol expressway. police say they were called to the scene after receiving reports of a man firing a gun in the neighborhood. >> when officers arrived on scene, the suspect was still actively discharging a firearm, prompting an officer involved

shooting. we can tell you that no officers were struck by gunfire at this time. the suspect was hit by officer gunfire and was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. >> san jose police are expected to update the suspect's condition later today. so far, investigators have not revealed what led up to the shooting. >> our time now 605 new this morning. the investigation underway in san jose into an overnight fire. it started just after midnight at a vacant building near fifth and jackson in the japantown neighborhood. fire fighters say the flames caused major damage, but no one was hurt. investigators are trying to figure out if this fire could be connected to people who were living in that vacant building. >> i'm getting reports from communicating with some of the people who are the property owners of the building, that they've had some issues with homeless people staying in the building or in camping in the area of the building. >> firefighters say the building went up in flames previously was the home of a japanese restaurant called kubota. it

appears, though it's been closed for several years. >> the state department sent out a rare warning, telling members of the lgbtq community to exercise caution while traveling overseas. the agency warned about what it described as the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or other violent actions against u.s. citizens in tourist locations and pride celebrations. the warning comes just two weeks before the start of pride month, which is observed in june. the travel warning also comes at the same time san francisco is getting ready to celebrate harvey milk day. that celebration is wednesday, may 22nd, which was harvey milk's birthday. but this weekend the community came together to kick off the celebrations early, and they say it's a reminder that more work needs to be done. >> a lot of heat right now. queer trans and drag queens actually are under attack. the legislation that they're trying to pass in this country, of all places in america in 2024 is mind boggling.

>> san francisco city leaders say they're increasing efforts to support and celebrate the community. right now, they're working on building the country's first lgbtq museum and research center. >> our time is 607. police in fremont investigating a serious overnight motorcycle crash. let's show you video of the police response to it. the calls came in about 9:00 last night about that crash along niles canyon road near palomares road. the police stayed out there for hours trying to figure out what caused the crash. we are trying to get more details from the fremont police department, and we'll bring it to you as we get it in. and happening today, the fairfield police department is launching its annual highway safety campaign before the very busy memorial day weekend. it's called click it or ticket. police in fairfield will be out there in force looking for drivers who are not wearing seat

hiker and his dog. east bay regional park police say alex stetcher and his dog never came back from what was supposed to be a one day hike. the two of them left friday. they were believed to be hiking the ohlone wilderness trail between sunol park and del valle regional park. we're told mr. statures is in his mid 50s. he was wearing the same clothing you see in this photo, a long sleeved green shirt, black pants and a khaki hat. meantime, a man is expected to survive after driving off a cliff along highway one and was ejected. almost 350ft from his car. this happened early sunday

morning. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the car's automatic crash notification system alerted 911 and gave dispatchers the location of the crash. helicopter crews found that injured man about 300ft beneath the car. the helicopter flew that critically injured victim to a trauma hospital to be treated well this morning. >> the ship that crashed into a bridge in baltimore is being moved away from that crash scene. the container ship crashed into the francis scott key bridge back in march. it has not moved since this morning. tugboats are pushing it back to a dock that process is expected to take 21 hours. the crash killed six construction workers and had a significant impact on the port of baltimore, which is one of the busiest in the country. congress is still debating how much money to put towards rebuilding that bridge. blue origin has launched its latest mission into space with six tourists, one very notable

lot and then some streets leading up to this apartment complex are closed off to the public because of the police investigation here. this started yesterday around 4:00. this afternoon. people called 911 to report a man in this area firing a gun in their neighborhood. police came to the scene. they said the man continued to fire his gun. so police shot at him, striking and seriously injuring him for several hours. the neighborhood was closed off for the investigation. it remains closed still this morning, more than 14 hours after this police shooting happened. we're constantly taking walks and, it's a little alarming to know that that happened here. >> we still have video evidence. we have to review body worn camera video that we have to look at witnesses we have to interview as well as the officers have yet to be interviewed. so there's still a lot of information. we don't know. we're learning things as they're developing. >> police say no officers were hurt. what we don't know yet, though, is the condition of the man who was shot by police as of

last night, san jose police said he was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. police also couldn't say how many of their officers who responded fired their weapons. but we know at least one police officer did and so that's prompted an internal affairs investigation. also an investigation by the district attorney and the city attorney's and back out here at colmar and story roads, you can see that it is closed. these streets leading to this apartment complex in this shopping center are closed to drivers. but some of the people who live and work here are being able to go to their cars and go to their homes, but we are waiting from san jose police to hear from them later. this morning. yesterday, a spokesperson at the scene said that they planned on having a news conference this morning to update us on more details about exactly what happened here. live in san jose, allie rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you ali, police are also searching for the person who killed a well-known, well-liked homeless man in antioch wednesday morning. officers found 48 year old raheem co dead on the sidewalk near the antioch health center

lawyer, is expected to be back on the witness stand in the new york criminal trial of the former president testifying about campaign finances. cohen is one of the final witnesses that the prosecution will be calling. cohen previously said he made hush money payments on behalf of donald trump to adult movie star stormy daniels. trump insists he did nothing wrong and that his this trial is an attempt to keep him off the campaign trail. with less than six months left until election day, the prosecution's case is so weak that it's very hard to imagine that anyone can look at this and think that president trump is truly guilty of a crime because he is not. now, this trial may possibly end next week, and the judge told the lawyers, be ready to make closing arguments. >> we're learning this morning that the president of iran has been killed in this weekend's helicopter crash. iran's state run tv network reported early today that president ebrahim

an upcoming pay raise for california health care workers. that raise would phase in a $25 minimum wage for the state's lowest paid health care workers, beginning june 1st. newsom however, says the pay raise

lsu beginning friday in the best of a three game series, and a new shuttle service is starting at california's oldest state park this week as it continues to recover from a devastating wildfire. the 2020 csu csu fire burned 97% of big basin redwoods state park in santa cruz county. this free shuttle marks the biggest increase in service since the parks reopened in july of 2022. the shuttles will run from 9:00 in the morning until six in the evening, beginning memorial day weekend through labor day, and it's a chance for visitors to see all the regrowth and the signs of the wildlife coming back to the forest. well i see sal castaneda coming back to tell us what's happening on the roads. what's happening now? >> well, dave, it looks pretty good for monday morning commute. i do see some slowing on the
