nice to open up the windows yesterday i agree. >> and it looks nice today. there's very little fog though. only a few patches of it. so we're clear. ready to go. santa rosa airport. but i don't think downtown does. has a slight northerly breeze, which is why there are 55 but upper 40s low 50s. and we're all set for what looks to be a sunny day, but cool and cooler, i should say. and breezy with temperatures 60, 70, 80. have that north wind holds in santa rosa. will get to 80s of a dozen and turns southerly. they'll probably be about 77. all right. sal's here. anything are quiet? >> it's mostly quiet. however for steve, we have a yeah. however, we have a pretty serious crash out there right now on 580, heading over to harbor way, we do have a fatal accident involving a pedestrian, and we do have some video taken a little earlier of the scene. this happened at about 130 in the morning, and at one point they did block all the lanes. but then a little bit later,

they did open some lanes. now this happened just as i said, just after or just before 130 in the morning. the vehicle associated did stop and is cooperating with investigators. right now. we have one lane open. it is pretty early in this investigation. however, one lane is getting by and the traffic is not backed up yet. we'll see. we'll keep an eye on it for you at 401. let's get back to the headlines. >> okay, sal. thank you. will no doubt you have seen all the videos that have gone viral, smash and grab robberies here in the bay area the past few years. but now california lawmakers approved a bipartisan proposal to combat retail crime. >> ktvu is betty yu has more on what it could mean for suspects and the reaction of business owners. california lawmakers want to put an end to repeated snatch and grab robberies like these. >> the state senate and assembly passed separate packages of bills that would increase penalties for organized crime. rings allow thefts to be combined so they can be

prosecuted as grand theft, and allow retailers to get restraining orders against convicted shoplifters. das would also be allowed to pool resources across jurisdictions to result in stiffer penalties. >> today is a good day for retailers. we think these will provide a number of tools for law enforcement, for retailers and for district attorneys that we think will change the narrative on how california will address retail thefts throughout the state. >> republican assembly leader james gallagher. >> it's a good start, but it does not solve the problem by any means. we need to reform proposition 47. >> there is a separate effort underway to repeal parts of prop 47, which in 2014 reclassified felony thefts under $950 as misdemeanors. >> not to say everything about 47 is hunky dory and perfect. and we want to help fix some of the ambiguities there, but we can do it without reforming or going back to the voters. 47 itself. >> the governor is living in a

fantasy land, and he continues to say he's doing all these things. meanwhile, rampant theft continues in every major city in california. >> postscript gift shop near fillmore street in san francisco shared these two viral videos of shoplifters casually stuffing items in their jackets and pockets before walking out earlier this year. >> it's really stressful. we're trying to, like, serve our customer, but we have to kind of look at other elements in running the business to protect our business. kitchen timer that was stolen. >> owner chandler tang says the store's been hit dozens of times since it opened in late 2019. it's installed several security cameras, changed the layout of the store and installed a gate after two burglary attempts. reacting to the advancement of bills at the state capitol. >> i feel encouraged a bit, but you know, we're a small business. our items aren't that expensive. they're kind of lower price points. so i'm hoping that changes will be made. >> betty yu, ktvu, fox two news

thank you betty. >> a plan to require campaign advertisers to disclose ai content goes before the fcc today. the chair of the federal communications commission says consumers have a right to know when ai tools are being used. if approved, the rules would apply to broadcast television and radio ads, but not digital or streaming platforms. officials hope to have the requirements in place before the election. earlier this year, the fcc said ai voice cloning tools in robo calls like duplicating the voice of president biden, are banned under existing law. mastercard planning to use artificial intelligence to stop cyber criminals from accessing your credit and debit cards. the company says it is launching a new update to its cards, which will help find when cards are compromised. the new technology is expected to predict patterns in stolen cards, and will allow banks to replace the cards before information is in jeopardy. the company also says

ai will help find where the card may have been compromised, as well as how it happened. >> our time is 405 open. i just signed a deal giving the company access to content from some of the biggest news publications and companies owned by the media company, news corp, now the maker of chatgpt, didn't give the financial details of this landmark partnership. however, the wall street journal, which is owned by news corp, reports the agreement could be worth more than $250 million over five years. industry experts say having this access to journalistic content could help improve chatgpt or to train its models for artificial intelligence. news corp is the sister company of fox corporation, which owns ktv icu, an international coalition of investigative journalists, is tracking the actions of an online predator group that is targeting children. >> the group goes by the name 764, which is believed to be part of the zip code of the

founder. the fbi says these predators operate online on online platforms that are popular with young people, including discord, instagram and minecraft. the group encourages victims to live, stream or upload images of self-mutilation, self-mutilation, sex abuse, harming animals or other acts of violence. >> the stories that we heard from the victims, a number of whom we interviewed for this collaborative, was really they were heart rending. >> the dark web is a part of this, but these predators are identifying their victims in very public facing social media platforms. that's where they find these people. >> now, fbi agents say the main motive of this group is convincing people to harm themselves, especially those who are young and struggling with mental health issues. while many social media websites have been working to ban abusive content, researchers found it still continues to evade bans and grow

despite those efforts. now, if you know someone you believe is being targeted, here are some resources that can help. you can call 911 to report immediate danger. the fbi contact number is one 800. call fbi. the national center for missing and exploited children has a cyber tip line. that network received more than 1 million reports last year, and that number is one 800. the lost our time is 407, as much as $100,000 was stolen from the contra costa county fair, while workers were on their way to deposit that cash at the bank. >> authorities say the theft occurred sunday morning in antioch in the parking lot of the bmo bank branch on summersville road. employees with the county fair were going to the bank's night deposit to deposit that cash when someone held them up at gunpoint and stole the money, the president of the county fairs board of directors tells us. the cash came from fees for entrance to the fair and for parking.

>> i don't know what the exact circumstances where they had a car or not, but apparently from what i saw in an email from the fair itself, was somebody walked up to the person or persons that were putting the money in the bank and put a gun up to their head. basically and then the rest is history. now organizers of the county fair say they may have to cut back on next year's plans for free, fair activities to help make up for the loss. >> there's no word yet from police on descriptions of whoever stole the money. it's 408. a top attraction at pier 39 in san francisco. facing allegations of lavish spending causing a shake up at that attraction. the chronicle reports. george jacob, the ceo of the aquarium of the bay, was pressured to resign, but jack jacob claims he left the aquarium to pursue a new project. the chronicle says the aquarium attraction faced serious financial problems and that jacob had hundreds of thousands of dollars in

entertainment and travel expenses, including almost a half million dollars for a trip to dubai about climate change. the aquarium's new chairman says he hopes a successful summer tourism season will improve the financial future of the aquarium. >> after a five hour long public hearing, the walnut creek city council has signed off on a plan to move forward with a new chick fil a location. now, the council denied a residents appeal of the project, who cited traffic concerns, but there was a compromise. the new location at the citrus marketplace shopping center will only have dine in and takeout. no drive thru. the council also adopted requirements to monitor traffic conditions and make improvements. if there are problems. >> i'll take it from here. okay. yeah, that was smooth though. that was smooth. all right. santa rosa, livermore, redwood city and san jose. all arrows pointing down. but it won't be bad today. santa rosa, i go

downtown. i don't use the airport. 84 yesterday. they get that north breeze and they're warmer than anybody else. livermore was 80. redwood city 7578. today we're going 80, 78, 74 and 76 on the forecast highs. everything looks good. there's a weak little cold front up here. let's see if i can. right there. right there. so we'll see the breeze pick up i mean it's what we call a dry cold front but 40s 50s on the temps. although brentwood says 63. but most locations 40s and 50s a little cooler to the north, you might imagine, but it's mainly upper 40s 50s. bodega bay is 48 sonoma's 47. upper lake 47. ukiah 4630s in the mountains arcadia. cool 42. upper 50s to near 60. down in southern california. you see the low there and what we're seeing is just what we call lower heights. a little area of low pressure will kind of settle in mountains, maybe some activity popping up over the mountains. that's just something keep an eye on this time of year into into may, june. something sometimes that can develop. and for us, if anything, i mean, it's clear. so sunday, if we're all breezy, 60s, 70s, low 80s.

republican presidential candidate nikki haley says she'll vote for donald trump in november. >> i will be voting for trump. having said that, i stand by what i said in my suspension speech. trump would be smart to reach out to the millions of people who voted for me and continued to support me and not assume that they're just going to be with him now. >> this is the first time haley has publicly backed trump since she suspended her campaign back in march. she says she encourages trump to work hard to get those who supported her during the primary. the state senate has approved a bill that would require third party security companies like clear to set up their own lanes at the airport. the bill would prevent clear from using existing security checkpoints. instead, the company would have to make their own security lines and checkpoints at california airports. backers of the measure say it's not equitable to allow

some people to pay to skip ahead of the tsa line. the measure now goes to the state assembly. >> our time is now. 416 nvidia, based in santa clara, seeing record earnings. its stock has climbed more than 200% in the last year, and it's now the third highest valued company in the world. ktvu. lamonica peters talked to a tech expert about the company's historic rise. >> nvidia is the one who control the market. about 90% of the market of those chips used to process chatgpt, you know, gemini is actually belongs to, nvidia specialized in making graphical processing units or chips for artificial intelligence. >> nvidia's products are in high demand. thousands of companies, including amazon, google, meta and microsoft are signaling they plan to incorporate ai systems into their operations. >> there are about 20,000 20,000 ai startups that lining up for

any available, chips that for that coming from nvidia. they they ask all the big names. we would like to use them because we have our own program, we have our own ai. we would like to train it. we would like to test it. and nvidia chips are the best one is available in the market. >> now nvidia's net income has jumped from $2.4 billion to $14.88 billion over the last year, analyst say the gains are fueled by the demand for ai systems that can compose documents, make images and serve as personal assistants. >> today, the announced split ten for every one of the shares. that's going to make it more available for people to buy it, which means that a lot of people are going to invest their. >> founded in 1993 by jensen huang bonhofer says nvidia will continue to expand and people should expect that a.i. will be a part of their daily lives as we learn how to use it in your own work.

>> because sooner or later, you're going to find people say that i'm an ai marketing person. i'm an ai advertising person, meaning i use the ai skills and tools so i can make my job better. >> nvidia's chips are also used in the gaming and automobile industries. the company says that it's got much faster at training ai models to understand speech, to learn to reason, and to plan. lamonica peters, ktvu, fox two news. >> thank you. lamonica. all right. let's check in with sal for a look at traffic. >> good morning, right now i'm looking at a commute here that is mostly good, except for one thing. and that would be westbound 580 at harbor. now, just, after we went on the air at the top of the show, they ended up opening up all the lanes and so now we're looking at some of the backup that was there has dissipated. and so we got somewhat fortunate in the

fact that this did not occur during most of the commute time. in case you're just joining us, it was a deadly crash involving a pedestrian on westbound 580 at harbor. underneath the overpass. there on the way to the richmond bridge, heading over to marin. that commute shouldn't be affected too much. we've been looking at some of the other commutes. now while i have you, i do let you know that the traffic on 80 eastbound has recovered. after they cleared the construction zone between hercules and the carquinez bridge eastbound, there was a little bit of a backup there this morning that's been cleared. so they kind of did get that out of the way soon. highway 37 now also open for a while. we had some closures there. so we're getting kind of lucky when it comes to some of these closures. they kind of did go away before the main part of the commute. what i consider the main part of the commute is between, let's say, five and nine. so taking care of business here a little bit before that

starts at 420. let's bring steve back in with today's weather. >> all right sal thank you sir. well under clear skies, temperatures 40s and 50s front is coming by. that will help stir up the breeze later on 40s 50s on the temps. maybe a couple of 60s hanging on but mainly 40s and 50s. castro valley is 48. north dublin's 48. lafayette, orinda, kensington. in there, there's enough of a little breeze maybe to hold up some of these locations in the 50s, 74 down in los vegas, 58, 59, 60 santa barbara, los angeles, san diego and 42 arcadia. this system will mainly stay to the north, but we will get the breeze to pick up. sunny but breezy today as that low digs in to actually the intermountain region. it's not digging into the north of us, but we'll see a cooler, breezy, windy pattern taking us friday into saturday. if you're heading to the mountains. could be some isolated shower thunder shower activity for us. best opportunity would be drizzle, although again with the temps cooling, the support for fog is kind of dissipating a little

some of the fallen officers were there at the event. it included reading aloud the name and ringing a bell for each officer. >> officer michael j. catherman badge number 3900, killed june 14th, 2016. >> their bravery and dedication have been the cornerstone of san jose's enduring strength and security. >> now, the active police officers there at the ceremony were asked to carry on the legacies of each of the fallen officers. >> family and friends gathered in oakland to say a final goodbye to an alameda county sheriff's dispatcher killed earlier this month. a 37 year old antoinette finau was killed by a suspected drunk driver. friends remember her for her passion for helping others and her positivity. despite the rigors and stresses of her job. >> always came in with such a light, a beautiful smile, a great spirit. we laughed a lot

with her and she always just brought a lightness to the room. >> her job was the perfect part for her. she was there to bring people together, whether it was for help or just to be there for them. she was that part. >> be now died may 5th. she was hit while driving to work. at this point, the woman who hit her has not been charged with any crime. >> our time now for 25, almost two years after the uvalde, texas school shooting, the families of the victims announced a $2 million settlement with the city. they are also filing another lawsuit against law enforcement. the families cap that deal at $2 million, saying they didn't want to bankrupt their own city. the deal comes with a promise for better police training, community mental health services and a permanent memorial for the 21 lives that were lost. yesterday's new lawsuit is against the texas department of public safety and the federal government, claiming authorities botched their response as the police waited outside the school

after a long firefight came to an end this morning, the investigation into how a fire started inside a metal scrap yard that prompted air quality concerns and disciplinary action taken against protesters at one bay area university. why the students say they're being punished for speaking out. >> from ktvu, fox two news this is mornings on two. >> good morning. thank you for joining us here on morning sun two i'm pam cook and good morning i'm dave clark. >> it's thursday it's may 23rd pam it is friday eve friday eve right over to steve paulson right here. hey steve, did you get a chance to look at the moon as you came? i did indeed, mr. clark. spectacular >> yes, sir. the flower moon, i do believe, is what it's called. yes, 40s. 50s on the temps. that's clear out there. no fog, very little fog, i should say. weak system is dropping down and

that's going to pick up the breeze. so temps continue to kind of ratchet down a little bit 60s, 70s and 80s. all right. sal shear i think he's busy already. and we're going where? richmond. >> yeah we are going to richmond . i just want to let you know that this morning at about 130, we had a deadly crash on 580 coming out toward the richmond area. and it was right at harbor way. now, one of the things that we've learned is they just opened up the lanes here. but this was a complete freeway closure at one point. then about an hour after the crash, they opened up the lanes. this was a person who was somehow walking on the freeway. the person who hit that person did. the driver who hit that person did stay and cooperate with investigators and just at about 4:00 right there, they opened the lanes and the lanes are now moving along very well. or the traffic is moving along very well as you drive through richmond, heading over to marin, i do want to mention that we do have some other things to talk about. the bay bridge toll plaza does look okay

coming into san francisco with no major problems on any of the bridges actually crossing the bay. 431 let's get back to the headlines. all right. >> thank you. well, new this morning, an investigation continues in pleasanton after a fire broke out at a mobile home park. firefighters spent most of the night battling the flames. there and putting out hot spots. it was contained to one unit at this 55 and older facility. the ktvu allie rasmus will be here in our next hour. she'll bring us more details about what happened out there. >> there was a huge fire at a metal recycling facility in redwood city. it sent black smoke billowing into the air, and that created concerns about air quality for several nearby cities. ktvu is joey horta has the investigation into the fire at sims metal facility. >> thick black plumes of smoke billowing over the horizon. skyfox shows the view from above . sims metal, a scrap yard near the port of redwood city on

wednesday afternoon. firefighters shooting water from ladder trucks to attack the flames. >> i kind of just smelled, maybe like burning burning metal oil and burning, just burning metal and burning maybe rubber. >> manuel mitchell works next door and this is not the first time he's seen a fire in the scrap yard. >> you hear booms once in a while. yeah >> the battalion chief overseeing the fire telling ktvu off camera a pile of cars taken to the scrap yard on wednesday for recycling went up in flames. >> cars get left with gas, gasoline in them when they get crushed. >> the battalion chief agrees that cars often go up in flames here and at other scrap yards because of fuel being left in the tank, or even propane tanks being left in the truck during recycling, leading to an explosion, but nothing like like this. >> yeah, it's pretty. it's pretty big. >> the bay area air quality management district tells ktvu. there is potential for smoke impacts in the immediate area

and downwind neighborhoods, and recommends people who are sensitive to smoke stay indoors. workers next door stop for an hour until the fire could be contained. >> we have a respirators that we put on, so we had them on. >> it would take firefighters 2.5 hours to extinguish the blaze. sunnyvale department of public safety confirming smoke made it that far south, which is 14 miles away from here in redwood city. joey jordan ktvu, fox two news okay, joey, thank you times for 33. >> happening today. congress will hold a hearing on the pro-palestinian protests on college campuses around the country, college presidents and chancellors from ucla, northwestern and rutgers university in new jersey are due to testify before the house. education committee. the hearing is entitled calling for accountability stopping the anti-semitic college chaos now. yesterday, ucla announced that the campus police chief has been reassigned. now after he was

criticized for the way he handled demonstrations as well. usf says about 25 students are on interim suspension for taking part in a pro-palestinian encampment. they received conduct notices on tuesday. the students say the notices were indiscriminate and included both people who left the camp before the deadline and those who had been promised amnesty. they're accusing the university of not negotiating in good faith. the ucsf says the people involved will be given the opportunity to respond to the alleged conduct code violations. >> protesters have cleared out their encampment at san jose state university just in time for the start of commencement ceremonies. organizers cleared the area near the well-known statues on campus. after ten days at the site, they say even though the encampment is coming down, their message remains the same. >> we are not only here. for palestinians, that is the primary reason, but there is an underlying reason why we're here

and that is to fight racism in all forms. >> the university says the protest has been an important opportunity to have a deeper understanding about the war in gaza. commencement ceremonies continue on campus today and tomorrow. >> our time now. 435. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu facing growing pressure after prosecutors said the international criminal court asked for arrest warrants for him and for the leaders of hamas because of alleged war crimes in gaza. now the move was strongly denounced by president biden, and now some congressional republicans want to show their support by inviting minister mr. netanyahu to capitol hill. the prime minister hasn't told us leaders if he would accept an invitation to address congress. but last night on fox news, he did talk about the arrest warrants from the icc. >> it's despicable symmetry. and of course, this prosecutor never goes after the tyrants of tehran or the butchers of syria, or

overdose deaths in san francisco, it seems to be trending downward now. new information from the office of the medical examiner shows 56 people died from drug overdoses last month in san francisco. that's down from 71 in january, 63 in february and 68 in the month of march. now, the department of public health says the april numbers are a 21% drop compared to april of last year. more than 250 people have died from drug overdoses in san francisco since the beginning of the year, compared that to the city reported 275 drug overdoses in the same period last year. >> the important thing to know is that there is an answer to fentanyl dependance, and that is treatment and recovery. we have life saving medications available, highly effective medications, specifically buprenorphine and methadone, that reduce the overdose risk of

along the california coast, and that's raising concerns for boaters. harbor patrol officials in santa barbara say the weight is damaging the docks and could sink boats. patrol boats have been cruising by and clearing out the decks for the large number of sea lions are gathering. the big surge in sea lion population has happened in the bay area as well, with areas seeing about 1000 in 1 location the last several weeks in particular has seen a pretty big uptake in california. >> sea lions here, it's something that we're experiencing up and down the coast, especially in northern california. you know, 1 or 2 every once in a while isn't an issue. but what we're seeing is some congregations of upwards of 10 to 15 of these animals in one particular area. >> officials say the sea lions are feeding on the anchovies along the coast before going to the channel island for mating season. a dog training facility

much as $100,000 was stolen from the contra costa county fair, while workers were on their way to deposit that cash at the bank. authorities say the theft occurred sunday morning in antioch, in the parking lot of the bmo bank branch on summersville road. employees with the county fair were going to the banks night deposit to deposit that cash. when someone held them up at gunpoint and stole the money, the president of the county fairs board of directors tells us. the cash came from fees for entrance to the fair and for parking. >> i don't know what the exact circumstances or they had a car or not, but apparently from what i saw in an email from the fair itself, was somebody walked up to the person or persons that were putting the money in the bank and put a gun up to their head. basically and then the rest is history. >> now, organizers of the county fair say they may have to cut

back on next year's plans for free fair activities just to help make up for the loss. there's no word yet from police on descriptions of whoever stole the money. >> emeryville police are investigating a stabbing that happened at a chick fil a restaurant. it happened about 230 monday afternoon at the location on 40th street. now, this is a photo of the suspect police say walked by the victim and cut their neck with an unknown object. police say they believe the attack was unprovoked. the victim only suffered minor injuries. officers say the suspect is a woman who was wearing a gray hoodie and sweats. anyone who knows anything about the case is being asked to call police. >> tom is now 508, a top attraction at pier 39 in san francisco. facing allegations of lavish spending causing a shake up at that attraction. the chronicle reports. george jacob, the ceo of the aquarium of the bay, was pressured to resign, but jacob claims he left the aquarium to pursue a new

tells us one person has been injured. a second person did not make it out of the home in time. allie, tell us more about what happened. >> well, we're at the pleasanton hacienda. mobile home park. this is off vineyard avenue in pleasanton and behind us you can see what is left of this house where this fire broke out just before midnight last night. you can see that the fire is completely out, but sadly, as we just mentioned, one person died in this fire. a second person who lived here was able to escape and went to the hospital as a precaution. firefighters have been here since midnight, first putting out the fire and then putting out any hot spots and now keeping an eye on it before fire. investigators can get here later this morning. we don't have any information on the identity of the people who lived here, but a sign in the front of this park says this is a community for people 55 years old and up. how this fire started is something fire investigators will have to determine. they're expected to be here later this morning to start that work. but in the

year, this travel season is proving just how much people are comfortable traveling again after the covid 19 pandemic. of course, we're years removed from that now, but in general, it predicts this memorial day weekend to be the second busiest, second busiest on record since 2000. on the roads, however, people traveling by car are likely to set a new record with more than 38 million people planning a road trip. spokesperson says memorial day weekend will set the tone for travel the rest of the year, and that could be promising. >> we haven't seen numbers like this from memorial day in nearly 20 years, not since 2005 that we've seen numbers this big, when we talk about the pandemic again, we're not just talking about pre-pandemic numbers. we are surpassing pre-pandemic numbers. so that tells you a lot about how people are viewing travel these days. >> and in california, that number is about 4.5 million people traveling for the weekend by car for airlines, tsa is expecting as many as 3 million people in a single day. that's

>> our time now. 603 new this morning, ktvu has now confirmed a body was found inside a fire scene in pleasanton at a mobile home park on vineyard avenue. firefighters spent most of the night battling the flames there and putting out hot spots. it was contained to just one unit at this 55 and older facility. the ktvu is ali rasmus is on this story. she'll be here in the next hour talking to a fire battalion chief about what happened. and investigators are still looking for the cause of a fire at this metal recycling yard in redwood city. it caused a lot of air quality concerns. the fire started about 3:00 in the afternoon near a pile of cars. that smoke drifted far into parts of santa clara county. no injuries have been reported, but health officials urge people who were sensitive to smoke stay indoors. however, air quality should get back to normal this morning, $100,000 was stolen from contra costa

county, the fair, while workers were on their way to deposit the cash at the bank. and authorities are saying it happened sunday in antioch in the parking lot of the bmo bank branch on summer's fair. were going to the bank's night deposit to deposit that cash when someone held them up at gunpoint and stole the money. the president of the county fair's board of directors tells us the cash came from fees for entrance to the fair and for parking. >> i don't know what the exact circumstances where they had a car or not, but apparently from what i saw in an email from the fair itself, was somebody walked up to the person that or persons that were putting the money in the bank and put a gun up to their head, basically, and then the rest is history. >> now organizers of the county fair say they may have to cut back on next year's plans for free fair activities. just to help make up for the loss. there's no word yet from police

on description of whoever stole that money. >> well, the owner of two fisherman's wharf restaurants that closed is now suing the city of san francisco for millions of dollars, the chronicle reports. the owner of the now closed fisherman's grotto and tarantino's alleges the city owes maintenance costs and blames the city for the neighborhood's deteriorating conditions. the owner says the issues contributed to both closures. both restaurants stopped operating in 2020. the city attorney's office argues that this owner's attempt to get out of paying close to $2 million they owe in back rent to the city. allegations of lavish spending are forcing a shakeup at a major attraction at san francisco's pier 39. the chronicle reports that george jacob was pressured to resign as ceo of aquarium of the bay, the paper says as the attraction faced money problems, jacob racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in entertainment and travel expenses, including nearly half $1 million for a trip to dubai about climate

year old sergeant gordon joinville was a 12 year police veteran. he was shot and killed while investigating the location of a drug lab. joinville has been memorialized at the san mateo county hall of justice. the peace officers memorial in sacramento, and the national peace officers memorial in washington, dc. san jose, also honoring fallen police officers killed in the line of duty. a police department ceremony was held at its monument for fallen officers. 13 san jose police officers have been killed on duty since 1849. officer michael catherman was the last killed in 2016, when a van crashed into his police motorcycle. the families of some of the fallen officers attended the event. that included reading out the name and ringing a bell for each officer. >> officer michael j. catherman badge number 3900 killed june 14th, 2016. >> their bravery and dedication have been the cornerstone of san jose's enduring strength and

know that one person has died and you have all the latest information. good morning. ali >> good morning dave. yeah, this happened at the pleasanton hacienda mobile home park, which is where we are. you can see the home that caught fire behind us. the fire, as you can see, is now out. but sadly, one of the people who lived here died in the fire and was not able to escape it. it started just before midnight this morning, and when firefighters arrived, they saw a woman who lives here outside the home, distraught, telling them that another person in the home was trapped. a team of five firefighters started to go inside the house to rescue that person when they experienced something, firefighters called a flashover. the battalion chief explained what that is and what happened. >> when the fire is contained into a house like this, the contents heat up, especially when the fire gases and the heat have nowhere to go, so what happens is, once it gets enough oxygen and it's hot enough, all of that smoke and, flammable contents, kind of bursts into

flames at the same time. >> he says from the time firefighters entered the home to when that flashover occurred, it was just three minutes. luckily, no firefighters were hurt. we don't have any information on the identity of the people who lived in this home. the sign in front of the park says that this is a community for people ages 55 years old and up. how this fire started is something fire investigators will have to determine. they're expected to be here later this morning to start that work, but in the meantime, we can confirm one person died in this fire at this pleasanton hacienda mobile home community. the woman who lived here escaped and went to the hospital. we don't have any details on the extent of her injuries, but fire investigators should be out here later this morning. live in pleasanton. ali rasmus, ktvu, fox two news. >> all right. thank you ali. crews have finally put out a huge fire at a scrapyard in redwood city. the fire and smoke created air quality concerns for several nearby cities. thick black clouds rose above the scrapyard near the port of

redwood city yesterday afternoon. the battalion chief tells us the fire started at about 3:00 after a pile of cars and scrap metal went up in flames. the smoke drifted into parts of santa clara county. no injuries are reported, but local health officials urged people to stay indoors. >> i kind of just smelled, maybe like burning burning metal and burning, just burning metal and burning maybe rubber. we have a respirators that we put on. so we had them on. >> crews had the fire under control by about 5 p.m. the air quality in the area is expected to be back to normal this morning. investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. a historic ship is now leaking diesel fuel and oil into the delta. the aurora dates back to 1955, but it started sinking in near stockton and spilling gallons of fuel into the delta, which prompted a quick response from several agencies. >> the biggest priority is containing that leak. we want to

after a stage collapsed at a campaign rally. a strong gust of wind damaged the stage during an event with a presidential candidate. the video you're looking at shows people running for cover, climbing under metal poles as the structure falls down onto the stage and part of the audience area. the governor of that region in mexico says eight adults and one child were killed. at least 50 other people were hurt and they were taken to hospitals. well, voters in the uk will go to the polls on america's independence day, the british prime minister announced. a vote will be held july fourth to pick a new governor. now is the moment for britain to choose its future to decide whether we want to build on the progress we have made or risk going back to square one with no plan and no certainty. and now 650 seats will be up for grabs in the uk parliament. whichever party wins most of the
