your typical lost pet. the search for the owner of this little piggy found wandering in a bay area neighborhood. >> this is ktvu fox two news at 730. >> good evening. i'm crystal bailey. welcome to the 730. this friday leading into memorial day weekend. it's already a big travel weekend. let's get a live look at the traffic now, where the roads were packed earlier today, and even last night as more and more people started their holiday weekends earlier than usual. this is what it looks like now on highway 24. pretty clear in contra costa county. and as you can see, things are moving. here is what it looks like on i-80 in the emeryville berkeley area. left side of the screen. that's people heading into oakland and san francisco on the right side that's heading towards richmond and berkeley. it also seems like everyone may have already left as roads are already starting to clear, and two morning accidents caused traffic for hours this morning. after the last half hour, things have just calmed down a bit. first, the bay bridge toll plaza where traffic was rough all day after a big

rig caught fire on the bridge. things were slow getting into the city pretty much all of the day. and it's because of this, this big rig fire. just before 10:00 this morning, the truck's trailer was engulfed in flames when the san francisco fire department caught on. got on scene just east of the yerba buena island tunnel. the trailer was filled with produce. thankfully, no one was hurt. the exact cause of the fire is unknown, but the fire department says the trailer's rear brakes may have overheated and in the south bay, two southbound lanes of 101 were blocked and will stay that way into the night. after a deadly crash. it happened just before noon north of blossom hill road. chp says a wrong-way driver collided with a big rig. the driver of the wrong-way car died at the scene. the big rig driver was not hurt. the crash caused about 100 gallons of fuel to spill into the road. and just about an hour and a half ago, chp began its maximum enforcement period for the holiday weekend. it will last through late monday night.

you can expect more officers to be out on patrol. they'll be looking for drunk or distracted drivers, speeding and any other reckless behaviors and for those not hitting the roads, many will be flying this holiday weekend. this is what it looked like at san francisco bay oakland international airport. as you can see, travelers waiting in long lines to get through security. most travel experts say this could be the busiest memorial weekend in 20 years. 3 million people are expected to fly this weekend. there are more than 50,000 flights scheduled for today alone in the u.s, and that's about 60,000 more flights than usual. but the bulk of travelers will drive. 38 million are expected to take to the roads. that's up 4% from last year. the bottlerock music festival, now underway at napa valley expo center. for. it's the hottest ticket in the bay area right now. the event is filled with music, food, and of

with a list of things to do around the bay area. just go to ktvu.com or our app to plan out your holiday weekend and new. at 730, a san jose man is under arrest accused of killing his own mother. he's identified as roger lee. police responded yesterday to a home on shadow dance drive in san jose. they found a woman unconscious and not breathing. she was pronounced dead at the scene. the cause of her death has not been released. the motive and circumstances are under investigation. now it's supposed to be one of the best days of a young person's life. graduation day. but for students at one oakland school, they're celebrating ended in gunfire as the graduation ceremony wrapping up at skyline high school in oakland last night, gunshots rang out ktvu joey jorda has new information on the arrest of a suspect. >> a rite of passage for teens turns violent. oakland police are investigating a shooting that happened shortly after the skyline high school graduation.

police say shots were fired on campus around 745 thursday night as people were leaving the ceremony. police say two groups got into a fight in the school parking lot, resulting in multiple people being shot. >> we heard the gunshots. >> zaidi yucel has lived right across the street from the school for close to 30 years and ran outside. >> it reminded me as soon as i heard the shots. this recent shooting in uvalde, texas, oakland unified school district tells ktvu many families and students had already left the campus, but others, including staff members, were still on hand cleaning up. >> i was there because my brother was graduating and he's okay, but it's kind of crazy because skyline alum josh manly works at the church down the street, where a sign salutes the graduates. >> he left campus before the shooting, but his 16 year old brother was still there. >> they heard the shots, but they thought it was just more confetti cannons. but then

people started screaming and they got out of there pretty quick. >> oakland unified superintendent doctor kyla johnson-trammell calls the shooting heartbreaking and absolutely unacceptable, adding as a community, we must not tolerate violence and instead work together to eliminate it. >> in oakland, having a gunshots and guns bringing into school, it is difficult to digest. it is concerning assembly member mia bonta tweeting my heart is with the students, families and skyline high school staff and educators. >> all three of the victims are expected to survive in oakland. police say they'll be on hand at future graduations in the newsroom. joey hornet, ktvu, fox two news a high school student in santa rosa has been arrested for allegedly pulling out a knife during a fight on campus. >> it happened on montgomery high school on wednesday, police say a video appears to show a 15 year old boy holding an folding knife during a fight with

congressman woman, nancy pelosi's husband, the san francisco district attorney, has filed several charges against david depape for the attack on paul pelosi. but on tuesday, there will be a hearing to determine whether the state trial can be considered double jeopardy because depape has already been convicted in federal court for the same crime. if the state trial is allowed to move forward, opening statements will likely begin on wednesday and today, ten congressional leaders called for a hearing and an investigation into the recent closure and transfer of 605 women from the federal correctional institute at dublin, citing information from ktvu, the leaders said they heard about shocking abuses that took place when the prison closed on april 15th and the women were bused and flown to other facilities around the united states. in the letter to the congressional leaders, the members, many from the bay area, said this level of disregard from for human dignity cannot be tolerated. the frantic nature of

the closure of fci dublin reflects a lack of adequate planning and proper safeguards to protect the rights of inmates, and an oakland high school celebrating today. as more than 75 of its seniors announced where they will be attending college this fall. for many of these students, a four year college could seem out of reach. but as ktvu tori gaines shows us, these kids are proof that a strong support system can make all the difference in the world. >> confetti and cheers filled oakland unity high's auditorium on friday in honor of more than 75 seniors heading to college this fall. many are proud to be heading to colleges right here in california and some are ready for the adventure that awaits at colleges out of state. 97% of oakland unity's college bound students are the first in their family to go to college. >> i'm actually first generation myself, so i think just like kind of being an example for like younger family members is really empowering and motivating. and on my journey of

higher education challenges that first generation students face can sometimes stop the college application process altogether. >> from financial aid forms to college interviews, the process can be overwhelming, but the results can be life changing. students at oakland unity tell us their support system made all the difference. >> the process was a little long and tedious. i had like it was multiple steps on top of another and some information that i just couldn't get that i just didn't know. and it was hard for me to get it. and i had to talk to my counselor and make meetings to get it done across oakland, only 50% of black and brown seniors who graduate are considered college ready. >> oakland unity touts a unique success in the city. 94% of the school's graduates seniors are considered college ready by academic standards. families in action for quality education, a nonprofit that serves students in oakland, tell us they want to see that expectation change. the organization started to raise the bar initiative while partnering with 15 schools to

of 60s out there and still some 70s. but remember it's just on tuesday. we had temperatures in the 80s close to 90 degrees. tomorrow will be the coolest day of the stretch here for your saturday. lots of cloud cover tomorrow morning and then on sunday a little bit of a warm up with partly sunny skies and that warming will continue as we head toward memorial day. and that means the warmest locations could be approaching the 80 degree mark. bottlerock a forecast in napa valley and the napa valley. we are expecting clearing skies tomorrow. a bit of a breeze out there. winds could be around 15 to 25 miles an hour. and then on sunday, partly sunny and a little bit warmer. those readings back up into the mid 70s. here's a satellite once again, lots of low clouds, as you can see near the coast already pushing back into the bay. so we will have overcast first thing tomorrow morning. current numbers out there livermore 57, san francisco 53, san jose 61 and half moon bay. in the 50s. you probably notice the winds picking up throughout the day and some neighborhoods you could see winds going up above 30, even 35 miles an hour in parts of the east bay. sfo right now winds out of the west at about

23 miles an hour. here is our live camera looking out toward. well, there we go back the golden gate bridge, solid overcast, already drifting into the bay for tonight. and tomorrow morning we are going to wake up to mostly cloudy skies. temperatures in the upper 40s and the 50s, and maybe some drizzle out there. so here's what the forecast model thinks. it's showing you the cloud cover tomorrow morning and then partly sunny skies into the afternoon hours. but the winds do pick up. could be around 20 to 25 miles an hour. here's a system moving in from the north. it cools us off for today. it will continue to cool us off into your saturday with those breezy conditions. this will move on out by sunday and monday. that allows temperatures to recover somewhat for the remainder of the weekend. highs for tomorrow. san francisco 60, concord 68. warmest locations close to the 70 degree mark and the. look ahead. your five day forecast. as you can see, temperatures warm up a little bit as we head toward monday for memorial day, and then looks like a quiet weather pattern into next week. so starting off on a cool note but recovering over the next several days. >> thank you. mark. coming up, this is not your typical

all discriminatory closures at regional medical center, they say the privately owned hospital in east san jose plans to shut down the trauma center and the heart clinic heart attack clinic. it's also looking to downgrade its stroke center. trauma center serves more than 2400 patients a year, and the stroke center serves 65% of patients in the country without insurance.

>> and if you take this lifeline of where would these people go? i mean, we just calculated the impact. every day there will be at least 5 to 7 patients who will either have increased mortality or morbidity. >> the trauma center is set to close in august. the hospital says it's because not enough people are using it. in a statement, a spokesperson said the hospital is focusing on emergency services with a $10 million investment to increase capacity from 43 to 63 beds. he added, quote, patient demand for our emergency department services continues to grow as we average nearly 225 patients daily. it is critical we invest in our emergency department to meet today's high demand and prepare for anticipated increases. santa clara county vector control staff are checking mosquito traps in san jose to monitor an aggressive mosquito species that poses a public health risk. the dozens of traps are set in a quiet

neighborhood in the east san jose foothills to keep track of aedes aegypti mosquitoes. no one knows how they got here, as they're not native to the state. officials say their presence in a residential neighborhood is concerning. >> if the mosquito were to become established, this would pose a risk to everyone in our community, but would be particularly concerning for our pregnant people, elderly family members, and those with compromised immune systems. >> vector control says neighbors are cooperating with their inspections, and locals say they're glad the county is taking action. and new at 730, berkeley police have made an unusual discovery. officers on patrol yesterday found this little guy wandering around in the area of mcgee avenue and bancroft way. this little piggy is safe and sound at animal control. but if you know who the pig belongs to, give police or animal control a call. and still to come on ktvu news at 730, a flight from south korea to san francisco had to divert to

supposed to land at sfo back on sunday, but was diverted not for a mechanical issue or an unruly passenger, but because the pilot and other crew members became violently ill. a korean news outlet says it was food poisoning. according to the faa, pilots are rarely incapacitated to the point where they can not fly. but when it does happen, stomach issues are the most common cause. a trash filled, putrid smelling urban lake in san francisco is getting the attention of people living in the south of market neighborhood in san francisco. the lot is at fifth and shipley streets, according to the san francisco business times, the city approved plans for a 127 unit residential building, but the construction stalled after the site's developer failed to make monthly loan payments. people living nearby are worried once it starts warming up. >> it's a big, big, big mosquito

mess. >> and you know, god knows what other airborne diseases they can carry. >> hopefully the city or somebody will come in and put something in there. >> right now, the san francisco public utilities commission says it believes the flooding is likely from groundwater. the site's future remains unclear. the utilities commission says it sent a crew out to collect samples at the site, but it couldn't get access because of the fence. now, a video game giant is opening a new store in san francisco's union square. nintendo announced plans today to open a store next year. it will be the company's second store in the united states. the other is in new york city. in a statement to ktvu, nintendo says the store will provide a way for visitors to experience the world of nintendo, its products and characters. now, this is in contrast to a range of companies leaving union square, including macy's, which announced its departure from the shopping district back in february. a new mural is on display in east san jose. it's sponsored by the san jose sharks, but it has nothing
