now at ten, a normally quiet neighborhood rattled after a man is shot dead overnight. neighbors on edge as belmont police search for the shooter. >> it's kind of scary. there's somebody just got murdered outside. >> this is the city of belmont's first homicide of the year. good evening, i'm amber lee. the shooting happened friday night on ralston avenue near o'donnell park. police say at this time, there does not appear to be any threat to public safety, but that's doing little to ease the concerns of people who live nearby. ktvu zac sos joins us in the studio after speaking with neighbors. zach, what are they telling you? >> well, they certainly have lots of questions as as you mentioned, they're feeling quite uneasy. crimes like this. they say, just are unusual for the area. no one i spoke to appeared to know the victim. who they say was found in his car. according to police, shot several times. >> it was like boom, boom, boom.

three muffled, shots. but i thought maybe it was fireworks. >> sirens soon following thomas martin stepping outside his home in belmont friday night to see police and paramedics crowded around a car, it looked like the windshield had gunshots through it. it was just after 8:00. inside, he says he saw a man sitting lifeless. >> they pulled him out of the car. he was in the car when he was shot and police pulled him out and started cpr on the ground right outside of his car with the door open. >> police say the 27 year old victim was shot multiple times and didn't survive. >> it's very shocking. it's very shocking because i've never heard anything like this. >> manuj agarwal out walking his dog as police flooded the area on ralston avenue near irwin street. >> everything was blocked. >> there was like a task force here mapping out the area. you know, they were here in force. >> investigators spending hours collecting evidence and going house to house. >> detectives came and knocked on my door and talked to me last

night and asked me questions about what i heard and about the surveillance, if there is any. >> in the wake of the shooting, neighbors left feeling uneasy. >> normally we just, you know, the latest we come out is around nine. but yeah, we'll have to be careful now. >> meantime, martin, just hoping police are able to make an arrest quickly and hopefully they can catch him pretty soon with surveillance or something. >> because i know a bunch of people around here have ring doorbells, so i'm sure something got caught. >> and right now, unclear whether investigators have any suspects. they are describing this, though, as a isolated incident. anyone with information or perhaps surveillance video of this crime, you're being asked to call belmont police. >> amber. thank you. zach. new at ten. some tense moments on 680 in san ramon when a driver involved in a car crash claimed to be armed with a gun. it happened around 6 p.m. in the southbound lanes in the area of

san ramon valley boulevard and bollinger canyon road. this image from caltrans camera captured the backup. the chp says when firefighters responding to the crash went to help one of the drivers, he barricaded himself in the car and said he had a gun. the lanes were shut down and about 30 minutes later, the man finally surrendered. authorities say he was not armed and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. police in oakland say a san francisco man is hospitalized after he was shot while driving his car overnight. the victim was found just before 230 this morning on foothill boulevard near 106th avenue, a block away from the 580 freeway, the east bay times reports. he was found in his car that had crashed into a fence in . investigators believe he was shot a few blocks away near frazier avenue and foothill boulevard. there is no word on being offered to anyone withd information, leading to an arrest happening now. san

leandro police are asking for help in finding this man, 71 year old louis miles. he was last seen on friday near his care facility in the area of juana avenue and 14th street. police say he was wearing a blue jacket and dark pants. he suffers from both physical and mental health ailments. if you see this man, you are urged to call 911. people all over the country are spending this memorial day weekend paying tribute to those who died serving in the military. folks here in the bay area took time today to lay flowers and place flags in cemeteries as a way to honor fallen heroes and lost loved ones. ktvu bailey o'carroll has more from san bruno. >> golden gate national cemetery in san bruno is home to thousands and thousands of headstones. they stretch as far as the eye can see, each one in honor of a fallen service woman or man. >> i lost family and you know we don't have the chance to get them back and the rights that we

have today are strictly because of, unfortunately, most of the men that gave their men and women that gave their lives in this cemetery. and i just think that people should be more respectful of that and try to come out here and support our government. and, you know, get this place running again. and in good shape all across the country and here in the bay area, people like melanie arnerich are taking time this holiday weekend to honor loved ones who paid the ultimate price for american freedom. >> arnerich has been coming to this cemetery since she was five years old, honoring all the family members who were buried here. >> my dad's parents are here. my dad's brother is here. my dad's great. two of his great uncles are here. my grandmother's aunt and uncle are here, our neighbor that we lost in vietnam is here with his mom and dad. and then my aunts and my aunts husbands uncle who was in the chinese section of the us military most decorated section. he's here too. >> most recently, arnerich

brought her 92 year old uncle here, a veteran himself, so that he could honor fellow servicemen and women. he passed away last year, but she told us he feared younger generations are forgetting the true meaning of this holiday. >> he said it many times to me. he said it only takes two generations to lose what we had growing up. and he said, i already see it right before he passed a year ago. he said, i'm seeing that already, that decline. i wish that more kids would go talk to their veterans and go support them and see what they have to live through every day so that they could understand the rights that they have in this country and the freedoms that they get every day here. >> so two days before the actual holiday, arnerich did as she does on the first of every month, plant flags and flowers at almost ten headstones. it's her way of saying thank you in san bruno. i'm bailey o'carroll, ktvu fox two news. >> in honor of memorial day, scouts from around the bay area came to the san francisco national cemetery in the presidio this morning to place

american flags at each grave site. families taking part say it was important for the kids to pay tribute to service members who lost their lives in service to the country. >> this is my first time is actually quite moving, especially. i've lived here a really long time, over 20 years and passed the cemetery forever. so it's really it's very i it's an iconic place in san francisco. so it's amazing to be in here and honoring everyone. >> the scouts were busy today, placing an estimated 30,000 flags near each headstone in washington, d.c, the national park service and the friends of the national world war ii memorial held a remembrance ceremony. today. the event also commemorates 20 years since the dedication of the memorial. >> they have given us a place to not only remember the fallen, but to reaffirm our commitment to preserving the memory of those who fought and fell during world war two. >> each star speaks for 100 of

road and roblar road when he veered off the roadway and crashed into a eeauthorities the crash. paramedics confirmed the man had a fatal medical emergency before the crash happened. the county coroner will determine the exact cause of death. new at ten the pro golf community is mourning the death of one of its young stars. two time pga tour winner grayson murray died this morning at the age of 30, one day after withdrawing from a tournament. the pga commissioner released a statement confirming his death but offering no details on the circumstances, saying, quote, the pga tour is a family and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. we mourn grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. the tournament did go on as planned, with grief counselors on site. coming up, the bottle rock music festival takes over the napa valley. how local businesses have been preparing for their biggest weekend of the year. but

after authorities allegedly found marijuana in her bags at the airport as she was preparing to leave the country. authorities saying in a statement that minaj was, quote, illegally exporting soft drugs from the netherlands to another country. she was also fined. minaj, who filmed part of her encounter with police on instagram live, was scheduled to perform in manchester sunday night. that has been postponed to a later date. an american man is reunited with his family this weekend after being detained for three months in the caribbean island of turks and caicos. finally, after a u.s. congressional delegation helped

secure his release. fox's christina coleman reports that four other americans are still in custody. >> pennsylvania dad and former pro baseball player brian hager spent more than 100 days in turks and caicos as he waited to learn if he'll have to spend years in jail. there. he was arrested after security discovered he had loose ammunition in his luggage. hager says it was from a hunting trip and that he forgot it was there. well, yesterday a judge noted this and sentenced him to one year suspended and a $6,700 fine, allowing him to return home. he reunited with his children in pittsburgh friday night. >> every emotion you can imagine , you know, as a father, as a husband to be reunited finally, after 101 days, it is. i feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. >> henrich is one of the five americans who were arrested and detained in turks were having stray ammunition in their luggage since february, a crime with a mandatory minimum 12 year prison sentence on the islands. all the tourists say they didn't intend to have stray bullets in their luggage, noting it was a

mistake again, some saying they were left from previous hunting trips. a us bipartisan congressional delegation traveled to turks last monday asking for the release of the americans. hager says he's grateful for their work. >> never in a thousand years did i expect that type of support, and they've played such a huge part in bringing me home, and hopefully the others are soon to follow. >> pennsylvania senator john fetterman was part of the congressional delegation that visited turks after his sentence was suspended. fetterman released a statement saying turks officials made the right move. he wrote they recognized that brian and the other detained americans are not gun runners. they are just people who made a mistake. i'm grateful that the judge recognized the right thing to do was to send brian home, fetterman also said he's hopeful the other cases will be expedited and that the other detained americans will be released and reunited with their families soon. reporting in los angeles, christina coleman, fox news. >> almost a month after a swarm of counter-protesters attacked a pro-palestinian encampment on the ucla campus, a high schooler

has been arrested in the case. 18 year old eden on was identified as the suspect in this video, wearing a white mask using a pole to beat a pro-palestinian protester. the beverly hills high school student was booked thursday into the l.a. county jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon. his bail is set at $30,000. today marks four years since the murder of george floyd. his death sparked a global movement demanding more police accountability. today, many americans say racism in this country is still a public health crisis. they say centuries of racist policies and practices have created barriers in housing, education, wealth and employment. federal data shows that minority groups have significantly lower life expectancies and experience higher rates of illnesses and death from conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. the american public health association says progress is slow but steady, and calling it out as a critical first step in addressing the disparities. one

person was briefly detained today after allegedly starting a fire in san francisco. fire crews responded this morning to the eureka valley recreation center on collingwood street. officials on scene say crews put out a small fire that was started inside a bathroom. nobody was hurt and there was no property damage. san francisco fire says the person detained was having a behavioral crisis and was released. san francisco fire crews also responded to a one alarm fire in the coal valley neighborhood. investigators say the fire broke out in an in-law unit behind the rear of the main house. two tourists were displaced. nobody was hurt, and investigators believe the fire was accidental. >> well, it's cooler weather pattern really starting off at least dominating the forecast so far this weekend. lots of clouds this morning and as a result, temperatures not warming up too much. just temperatures in the upper 50s and the 60s. a few 70s report up in the north bay for santa rosa, also out toward

fairfield and concord, san francisco only 59 degrees and we had some pretty good drizzle even. basically rainfall. as you can see that that mountain, san francisco .09 inches terms of measurable rainfall. pacifica .04, danville .03 and castro valley .02. so there's the chance we could have some more patchy drizzle first thing tomorrow morning with some patchy fog out there, but we will have more sunshine increasing into the afternoon hours. and then on monday for memorial day clearing skies. it will be mild to warm the key headline over the next couple of days. temperatures actually a little bit warmer than today. here's the satellite where we have a pretty quiet weather pattern over northern california. some patchy low cloud cover is already trying to regroup and push back into the bay for tonight, and the wind speeds will check out the current wind reports out there. you can see oakland airport westerly breeze at about 14 miles an hour. sfo westerly wind at about ten so it was breezy to windy. these values have backed off a bit over the past few hours. here's our live camera looking out toward sfo, reporting partly cloudy skies

and celebrity chef jose andres. about 40,000 people are expected to hit the three day festival each day, and that means many of the local businesses in the area will benefit. ktvu betty, you checked in with businesses in downtown napa. >> the patio at the napa general store is nearly full saturday morning thanks to walk ins. many are in town for bottle rock, manager luis basteri says the restaurant tries to take advantage of the early crowds before the festival gets underway in the afternoon. a lot of people from the outside is nice for us because it's an atypical weekend. >> we can make more money. luis estimates the napa general store will see double the amount of customers it gets on a normal weekend. >> we ordered these clear, clear plastic bags because you have to have clear to bring in to the festival in all different sizes. >> amelia's gift shop stocked up on popular items including a variety of hats it anticipates will sell out this weekend. >> i get them in about two weeks

variety of latin food and drink. one local vendor says the festival is a time of unity. it's just a beautiful collection of cultures and it's just so nice to see all these people come out and be excited to share the music, share in the food so it really means togetherness to me. >> and just keeping the culture, all these cultures alive. >> this is the largest and longest running multicultural celebration in california, drawing about 400,000 people each year, generating $10 million for local businesses. tomorrow morning, a massive carnival parade will take over the mission district. hundreds of people came out to treasure island today for the first day of the monthly treasure fest street fair. attendees got to smile for photos in front of a themed chalkboard where they could write down what makes them happy. guests could also browse a variety of vendors, from colorful mugs and home decor to unique jackets and textiles. there was also a live music

stage which hosts bands. the may edition of the fair is extra special as the organization will mark its 30th anniversary this month and heir to the levi-strauss fortune, who is also a candidate in the race for san francisco mayor, says he will fund his own campaign. daniel lurie says his decision to use his own money and decline public financing will save san francisco taxpayers $1.2 million. that's the money he would have received from the city's public financing program for political campaign. lowry's announcement comes amid what is expected to be the most expensive race for mayor in san francisco history. president biden today delivered the commencement address at west point military academy. the president praised the students for their courage and discipline, and said they are about to become full time members of, quote, the most honorable and the most consequential fighting force in the history of the world. >> there's never been a time in history when we've asked our

giant launched its ai overview program earlier this month. so now when you search something, you may see a summary of a search result generated by ai. many users have noted these descriptions can be inaccurate, such as claiming cats have been to the moon, or that glue can be a topping for pizza. google says it will fix errors that violate its content policies, but also claims that the system is working as intended. next month, the giants will do something no major league baseball team has done before, and the countdown has already begun. a giant

baseball card of pitcher satchel paige overlooks buck o'neil tribute park in kansas city. both paige and o'neil played for the kansas city monarchs of the leagues. paige went on to play in the majors, and both he and o'neil are in the baseball hall of fame. the giant card is one of several cards of league legends being displayed on select cities ahead of next month's matchup between the giants and the cardinals. it will be the first mlb game to ever be played at rickwood field in birmingham, alabama, the oldest professional ballpark in the u.s. it's where giants legend willie mays played when he was on the birmingham black barons of the leagues. he began his professional career with the team in 1948, when he was just 17 years old. the giants say next month's game, set for june 20th, will honor willie and the leagues in a way which will be appreciated by all generations. and you'll be able to watch it all right here on ktvu you

they're proving you're never too old to celebrate the magic of music. >> well, the weekend starting off lease this morning with lots of cloud cover out there and some pretty good drizzle. basically some rainfall across portions of the region. a lot of moisture and enough dynamics to produce that drizzle temperatures. today, the coolest of the weekend. we begin to rebound tomorrow. no, no, it's not a major heat wave, but temperatures the warmest locations close to the 80 degree mark. so it's just a warm forecast for your sunday in the last day of bottlerock for tomorrow is looking pretty good. probably some cloud cover first thing, and the napa valley, at least some patchy clouds and then increasing sunshine into the afternoon hours. temperatures on track to reach at least the low to mid 70s. here's the satellite where you can pick out. we have some system way up to our north up in the pacific northwest. some patchy low cloud cover is offshore here. we've already seen a few patches push into the bay for tonight. current numbers out there for the 10:00 hour. right now it is 51 degrees in santa rosa. oakland is 53, san

jose 56 and livermore, right now 50 degrees. here's our live camera looking out toward sfo. of course, the airport's very busy this weekend for the three day weekend and we have partly cloudy skies, some patchy cloud cover, trying to reform for tonight and overnight temperatures. pretty chilly. so we're going to have lots of 40s to attract. morrow morning 40s to right around 50 degrees. partly cloudy skies and still some patchy fog near the coast and right around portions of the bay. in fact, here's the forecast model. this is tomorrow morning, 7:00. there's a chance we could have some drizzle out there once again. probably not as much as this morning, but still the possibility of some drizzle. and then into the afternoon hours we will scale back on the cloud cover. partly sunny for the coast and then more sunshine for the rest of the bay area. upper 50s to the 60s. the warmest locations could be flirting with 80 degrees. so this is the system that has cooled us off over the past 2 to 3 days. this will be on the move for tomorrow as it moves out to the east. we will see this area of high pressure try to rebuild

and as a result, we just have a warming trend for sunday and into monday. the real warming though, that will move into the period next into the area next week and that means the warmest locations, say by thursday, could be in the upper 80s getting close to 90 degrees. so a bit of a bump in the numbers for sunday and into monday. as far as the forecast for monday, for memorial day, we are expecting some patchy fog, 7:00 in the morning hours and then becoming partly to mostly sunny temperatures inland will be in the upper 70s to right around 80 degrees by monday afternoon. take a look at the numbers for tomorrow. that's what we kind of have in the forecast for tomorrow as well. so once again, patchy morning fog, temperatures in the 60s, 70s and maybe a few spots getting close to 80 degrees. and the winds do pick up probably on the order of around 15 to around 25 miles an hour, increasing into the afternoon hours. here's a look ahead. your five day forecast and no major changes headed our way in the short term. as you can see, temperatures inland close to 80 degrees. tuesday. a little bit of a dip in the numbers with partly sunny skies and amber. if you like the
