learning? >> mike i don't have a lot of new information, but what i do know is that police officers are still here on the scene investigating the case. now, we did try and speak with some of the neighbors that are here at this intersection, but none of them wanted to speak with us on camera. i'm going to step back so you can see what's happening right now, just beyond where the officers are standing. that is the house that is involved in this case. now, as you mentioned, police say a woman's body has been found inside of that home here at 20th and east washington street. san jose high school is just down the street from here. and police say it all started around 6:00 tonight when police responded to a report of a possible shooting. now, this is the same home where a suspect was barricaded inside for more than two hours and after hours of negotiating with the suspect, he, he or she did surrender and was taken into custody shortly after 830. now, once the officers got inside of the home,

they found the one woman's body and it's not clear how long her body had been there. now, police say this scene will continue to be active for quite some time. they will be here investigating. so they're asking people to avoid coming down this street. this is 20th and washington between washington and julian street. so again they're urging people to remain inside of their homes. you can't drive through this intersection because it's blocked off. and it looks like they'll be here probably until early tomorrow morning. mike >> all right. la monica peters live tonight in san jose lamonica. thank you for that. we're also monitoring breaking news out of south sacramento, where police say five people have been shot. this happened around 8:00 tonight near coral gables court and meadowview road, just about two miles east of interstate five. police say four of the victims are adults. one a teenager. the conditions of the victims have not been released tonight and so far no

arrests have been made. investigators are searching for at least one shooter. police say they will be on scene for several more hours, gathering evidence. >> there's a lot of people that were involved in the shooting and we're not sure of all the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident and what led up to the shooting. but there are a lot of people that were injured in this, and we need to make sure that they received justice tonight. >> and police say at this time it does appear that the victims knew each other, but their relationship to the suspect is still unclear. >> new tonight, a community is rallying behind a group of low income seniors after they were forced to evacuate their home. it happened yesterday when a backed up sewage line caused authorities to red tag their building. ktvu zac sos spoke with some of the impacted residents who say this is not the first problem they have had with the building. i'm just tired because i'm not used to not being at home. >> this is very upsetting for everyone. jackie ryder and around 50 other seniors temporarily being housed at the hampton inn after firefighters discovered this at their apartment complex in oakley. i

wanted to throw up. >> i saw the pictures and thought i was going to pass out. it was so awful, gloria taylor says. >> crews were first called to oak grove senior terrace on sunday morning, and they opened the electrical room and that's where they found it was it was dripping with water, a clogged wastewater line causing sewage to back up into a vacant apartment and overflow, forcing power to the building to be shut down. >> i mean, and the smell was horrible, the situation prompting an immediate evacuation of the building housing low income seniors. >> i got to go in ten minutes today to pick up stuff. initially since it was red tagged, we could not go back in. they've been very, very helpful letting us in this. >> according to residents, not the first time the building has faced maintenance issues. >> they've had mold. real bad mold in an apartment in our building. >> they're slow on repairs, roaches in another building. >> we were in the newspaper for that one.

>> for now, the building says it's housing residents at three area hotels, free of charge and providing partial credit towards their june rent, a $300 cash card and free meals round the clock security services also monitoring their apartments while they're away. in the meantime, volunteers from the community have staged a donation drive. >> everything started pouring in. i mean, even more than what we can use food, pet supplies, waters, clothes, the residents all too grateful but still worried about the state of their building. these seniors deserve better just because they're low income doesn't mean they need to live in squalor. >> we may be older, but we're not stupid and that's how we're treated. lots of times. >> and one resident telling me they plan to voice their concerns about the state of their building at a city council meeting on tuesday. as for when they could be moved back in, building management says that could happen late tuesday or wednesday morning in oakley, zac sos, ktvu fox two news. >> new at 11 a gif shop in

fairfield is being targeted for closure after police sait was a front for criminal activity. police say m were arrested after investigators servedsech . police say they foundwo illegal guns, marijuana for sale, cocaine and a stolen dirt bike. code enforcement officiald coending the shop's business license be revoked. that business was given 15 days to appeal the decision. >> new at 11 a san francisco business owner says thieves took off with more than $300,000 worth of equipment and merchandise. the owner of apparel maker dare fashion posted about the burglary on the company's website. he says the company's printer street office in bernal heights was targeted back on may 1st. he's now looking to rebuild with the help of donations on gofundme. dare fashions remaining merchandise has also been moved to a more secure office location and another part of the city, the beacon on top of mount diablo, is shining once again in honor of memorial day. >> it was lit at 8:00 tonight on our u.s. military service

members who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. the tradition started in 1964 by a group called pearl harbor survivors. tonight's ceremony was held at the veterans memorial building in danville. a group of bay area veterans was invited to attend. >> these people that come to our ceremony today came from all the wars. you can name from world war two korea, bosnia, afghanistan, even the global war on terror and many others. >> the beacon will shine until shortly after sunrise tomorrow. that beacon is also lit in honor of pearl harbor day and veterans day, and hundreds of people gathered for a ceremony at san francisco national cemetery in the presidio this morning. >> those taking part included congresswoman nancy pelosi, she said, we all owe a debt of

gratitude for the sacrifices of u.s. service members who lost their lives in service. one of the attendees who serves in the u.s. army told us he lost friends in afghanistan and iraq. he said for him, memorial day has a very deep meaning. >> right now, i'm an assignment where i work at the defense pow mia accounting agency, where we search for missing. and conduct. conduct investigations and recover their remains to bring back to the us because the united states has made a promise to never leave anyone behind. >> and before the ceremony, scouts from all across the bay area placed an estimated 30,000 flags there. on the graves at the presidio. >> memorial day also marks the unofficial start of summer for many families. people are still heading home from their weekend getaways. triple a estimates nearly 40 million people used a vehicle to travel on this holiday. the california highway patrol began increasing patrols friday night and will continue their maximum enforcement period until midnight every time during

board. >> i feel like that's about as lucky as you possibly can be, you know, as a as someone who surfs a lot and spends a lot of time in the water, you always know that's a possibility. but there's people out there who have been seriously injured by sharks, and i'm so lucky that it only got my board. >> the surfer says he believes it was a 4 to 6 foot juvenile shark in the state of utah. >> one person was seriously hurt in a head on collision on interstate 80 this afternoon. highway patrol officers say a vehicle was heading west on the interstate when it went off the right side of the roadway and then crashed into a fence. witnesses went to help the driver, but highway patrol officials say the driver backed up, made a u-turn and then started going the wrong way. that's when the car collided right into a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer. the driver of the car was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition. officials say there were four animals in the trailer. none were injured in arizona. >> a man was arrested after investigators say he intentionally started a wildfire. that fire started on

saturday along the arizona side of the colorado river, burning more than 1200 acres. yuma county sheriff's office officials say 47 year old jason bradley martin was arrested yesterday in connection with that wildfire. he is accused now of arson. the fire is burning in the imperial national wildlife refuge and at last check it was 20% contained. >> and you can hear about the west coast top stories every weekday right here on ktvu. west coast rap with alex savage airs at 7:00 monday through friday, or you can find around the clock coverage at west coast rap.com. the city of half moon bay is mourning the loss of a beloved community member. the mayor's son, who was killed this past weekend in a motorcycle crash. >> a memorial now growing along highway one at the scene where 28 year old joaquin dominic jimenez alvarado died on saturday. today, the san mateo county sheriff's investigator surveyed the crash scene. joaquin's father says his son had been in san francisco with his girlfriend and was returning

last resort to close in the tahoe region. the mountain closed this afternoon and according to its website, summer operations scheduled to begin june 7th. >> all right, here we go. let's go to our chief meteorologist, bill martin. now for another look at the forecast moving in. can you believe it's already almost june? >> it's almost june saturday. >> it's almost june. you're not far from the summer solstice, which and then the days. as mike pointed out earlier, days start getting shorter. >> let's slow down for a second. >> we want that to happen yet. >> that's not good. okay, so we got fog outside right now. i just checked on the depth of the marine layer. it is deep. it's up around 2200ft. i mean, that's deep. so it's getting up over the coastal hills. it's getting right. it's everywhere. so tomorrow morning, especially in the areas along the peninsula and out towards livermore valley, there'll be a bunch of fog. so what's going to happen is the see this guy here, there's a tweak there, there's another tweak behind it. and they're going to just all through the course of this week, we're going to see these systems kind of pulse by. and when they do they have an impact on us.

they're further north. they're not going to rain, but they're going to bring cooler weather and then warmer weather, cooler weather and then warmer weather by subtle degrees, like a couple of degrees here, a couple of degrees here. so i just i would say this whole week, most folks around the bay and say redwood city, san jose and that climate zone, you're going to be in the upper 60s to mid 70s all week. and then in the inland valleys all week. you're going to be in the low 80s to mid 80s, maybe on thursday the upper 80s. so we'll see. this is the forecast out for tomorrow morning. and you can see the fog and low clouds pushed well inland. and it burns back and then we go into wednesday morning right. fog and low clouds. and then it goes away. and that's when it starts to warm wednesday a little bit especially inland wednesday and then thursday and then the fog stays away and then the fog should come back on friday. but again subtle changes. these are the forecast highs for tomorrow. 78 in antioch, 79 in fairfield a couple degrees cooler than it was today. and then on tuesday it'll be a couple of degrees. or

designer colleen quinn 400 hours over two and a half months to create this special gown, inspired by the official flower of san francisco, the dahlia. it debuted for the first time this month as part of this year's union square in bloom festivities. >> all my pieces are inspired by san francisco, and i wanted to really plant myself here because there's really not much fashion. so if i can be one that actually represents san francisco, i would be so honored. >> colleen also presented iconic gowns she made over the last 25 years. she still uses her mom's sewing machine. she taught colleen how to sew when she was five years old. >> my roots come from here, too. from chinatown. my father, my grandparents were chinese medicine doctors. >> the third generation bay area native studied computer science before she attended fisherm in san francisco and worked for brands like gap. she later studied french couture in the city, and she ran an atelier

business in san francisco for 15 years before she took time off to battle breast cancer. >> there's paris hilton in my bird of paradise. >> her gowns have also been worn by celebrities including tyra banks. today she takes on special commissions or projects that also benefit the community. >> i want to give that blessing or just i can be a part of this community to help the businesses . and let's bring this, you know, the city into life and spirit again. >> the union square alliance hosted the designer for the second annual bloom event, a really special component of our collaboration with colleen was that the fabric was donated by britax, which is a legacy business in our district. >> her mom would make her dresses out of fabric from britax. >> born in oakland, colleen actively finds ways to learn about her chinese culture. she studied daoism, which emphasizes living in harmony and extends her artistry into painting. >> and even though i wasn't born in china, i still feel my roots are with me in my dna in san

powerhouse in her sport with demonstrated passion and strength as a wrestler. >> in the past two years, i have won three world championship. in 2022, i qualified for my first senior world championship, which is the official wrestling world championship. no age restrictions and for me, that was kind of like jumping into unknown territory since eller was four years old, she's wrestled the youngest of six. >> her father was an athlete as some of her siblings. >> growing up. i also played a lot of other sports. my siblings played a bunch of sports. we are a family of sports and of trying a whole bunch of different things and pursuing our goals. >> wrestling is historically a male sport and allure has endured the knocks. >> i've heard all sorts of things for a while. i was embarrassed of it. i would tell my friends that i wrestle and they would think that it's wwe. they would ask, what's your costume? or your what's your stage name? and i was like, no, it's an actual sport. >> none of it has deterred her or diminished her dream. >> a lot of times i would tell friends about it and they would

schools. >> five major college conferences and the ncaa have agreed to settle three federal antitrust lawsuits under the deal, the ncaa would pay nearly $3 billion over ten years to current and past athletes dating back to 2016. it was also a revenue sharing plan allowing schools to pay up to $20 million a year directly to athletes. >> within this, anyone who agrees to sign on to it has to waive their right for further litigation against the ncaa and no further antitrust lawsuits. >> san jose state university sean fletcher, they're telling us earlier today on the four, it's not clear how that money will be paid out when it comes to individual sports. the settlement terms must still be approved by a judge. >> an iconic san francisco landmark turned 87 years old today. it was may 27th, 1937, when the golden gate bridge opened to pedestrian traffic to celebrate its completion, tens
