soaring temperatures. >> this is ktvu fox two news at 730. >> and this is the first day of our dramatic june warm up. thanks so much for joining me on this toasty tuesday night. i'm heather holmes temperatures have eased just a bit this evening, but that heat advisory, it remains in effect. so we want to get an update on the system and bring in our meteorologist, mark tamayo. i know you've been tracking today's hot weather. any records set just yet? >> juan? record to report up in the north bay, 100 degrees in santa rosa. so, yeah, temperatures are so hot up there. always so hot. and it was about 20 degrees warmer compared to yesterday. yeah, it's not just the gradual warm up but a big shift. yeah a bit of a jolt. so yeah take a look. 100 degrees breaking the old record of 98 degrees set back in 1949. take a look at some more very toasty temperatures above 100 degrees out toward napa and fairfield. close to 100 out toward concord and livermore. it was still warm to hot around the bay, just not in triple digit territory. mid

to upper 80s in san francisco. that looks like a pleasant 74 degrees. now the heat advisory continues for all these areas in yellow through thursday night, and the excessive heat warning for the for the for solano county out toward the sacramento valley. so as you can see, the heat advisories does include the santa clara valley and then that heat warning to reflect even hotter temperatures in the forecast. and it's in place tomorrow and into thursday. but i will say thursday will we'll begin to bring in some cooling. here's a satellite picking up mostly clear skies. most of the fog is down to our south down in southern california, and we'll check out some of the current numbers. right now it is still 7:00, and we still have some 90s for fairfield and concord. right now. san jose 82, san francisco 69, and santa rosa. that's a warm 90 degrees. here's our live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge and the marin headlands. remember all those cold, foggy, windy evenings would be freezing to be outside. not the case this evening with mostly clear skies and still some warm conditions tomorrow morning. stepping outside the door, it will be mild temperatures in the 50s and the

60s. to start off your wednesday morning and then here's the forecast model. those brighter colors do represent some warm to hot temperatures once again, and the hottest locations will be right around 100 degrees by about 3 or 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. all because this guy, this area of high pressure has been building in it sticks around for your wednesday. so just take it easy for your wednesday. it's still going to be we have the heat advisory, the excessive heat warnings. just take it easy and then the cooling begins on thursday. although thursday still a fairly hot day inland, but we begin to trim back on the heat by thursday. take a look at the numbers for tomorrow. san francisco 7499, in concord, san jose, 93. and up in the north bay. another round of 90s for santa rosa and in napa. we will cool things off on thursday that will be the transition day and it's still warm later in the week. we're on a major cool down, but still we will have some relief by friday and into the weekend. 60s, 70s and 80s. so another hot day in the forecast? take it easy for wednesday and had some cooling changes headed our way. >> all right. appreciate you tracking it all mark. thank you.

governor newsom. encouraging everyone to take the heat seriously, reminding people about the signs of heat illness and to go to ready dot k.gov. it was launched just last month and provides a one stop shop for californians to get updates on emergencies such as wildfires and extreme weather. the governor tweeting out that information there on x earlier today. the governor says the state is prepared to respond during the hot weather. the soaring temperatures come about two weeks before the official start of summer and we talked with some families in the east bay where the temperatures as mark was saying, really climbed today. they made sure the kids had on sunscreen and were drinking plenty of water. we also caught up with some people splashing around at the dublin wave. well despite the fun there at the water park, this heat can put people at risk. >> that can include sunburns and heat exhaustion, which can even lead to hypertherm mia. and that's when our body just stops sweating completely. most of us are dehydrated most of the time

and don't realize it. >> oh, it's extremely important. and in fact, i think that we're all following our kids around to make sure that they have water and things like that because they don't think about that. >> experts say the elderly, infants and toddlers are more at risk of heat related illness, and they add, it's best to avoid being outside during the peak hours of the day between around 10 a.m. to around 5 p.m, san jose has opened three cooling centers that will have extended hours through thursday. residents can find relief from the heat at the camden community center emma prusch farm park as well as roosevelt community center. residents can get bottled water, have access to free wi fi, as well as outlets to charge your devices. well, amid the heat, crews continue to work to contain the corral fire just west of tracy. and tonight's update from cal fire shows this grass fire is now 92% contained. great news. more than 14,000 acres, though, have already burned. that's an area about the size of walnut creek. a new at 730 tonight. another

fire had crews in san mateo busy today. we want you to take a look now at some video of cal fire ccu. that unit responded to the call of a 2000 square foot workshop that was engulfed in flames. as crews say, rural water supply operations had to be called in since this particular area does not have access to fire hydrants. it's right off of highway one south of a bean hollow road. crews were able to get to the flames rather quickly before the home. there on the property was damaged, but that small shed and a trailer were destroyed. in the east bay. a car burst into flames inside the caldecott tunnel. as you see here, causing major delays for drivers on highway 24. earlier today. sky fox up above that backup. it happened about ten this morning in the left of the two eastbound bow'rs connecting oakland and orinda, all lanes reopened about 2.5 hours later. no one was hurt in the fire and the cause remains under investigation. new. at 730 tonight, the sonoma county board of supervisors

today voting to end an emergency proclamation that it declared last year in response to an outbreak of avian flu. the proclamation was approved back in december of 2023 and had provided additional public safety and emergency services to mitigate the effects of the outbreak. almost a dozen farms were affected and 1.2 million birds were euthanized. the county says, though since february of this year, avian flu has not been detected in commercial flocks within sonoma county. but it adds any unusual or suspicious dead wild birds should be reported to the department of fish and wildlife. now, the city of san leandro has now selected a new police chief. current interim chief angela everett has been appointed by the city manager as the department's permanent chief. everett brings almost three decades of law enforcement experience to the job, most recently in the city of los altos. everett takes over following the departure of abdul

ogden, who left amid allegations of privacy violations. in a statement, chief everett said the profession faces many challenges, but that we have a tremendous opportunity to set an example for progressive, transparent, accountable and community focused policing. she went on to say she looks forward to working closely with all internal and external stakeholders to make the san leandro police department a pioneering model of contemporary policing for others to emulate. oakland ballers fans have shown up tonight in droves as the inaugural home opener began just about an hour ago. it marks an exciting day for sports fans here in the east bay. the oakland ballers are establishing new styles and traditions for their games, such as having mistah fab be the one to do a first hit instead of a traditional first pitch. oakland leaders helped kick start the celebrations earlier this afternoon. >> this is proof that when you

the city is rolling out its downtown concord welcome program . it includes pressure washing and painting of the downtown garages, a new garbage and recycling program, as well as new security cameras and lighting. a security ambassador is also patrolling the parking garages. todos santos plaza and the downtown business district. this comes as the city is launching its downtown music and market concert series, set to begin thursday night. another program meant to bring business back to san francisco is seeing some success. eight businesses just announced their pop up shops. initially part of the city's vacant vibrant program will now be permanent storefronts. they include devil's teeth baking company, rosalind bakery, planted african restaurant turanga thai restaurant. basil the bold vegan donut shop black donuts and embark wines. congratulations to them! meantime, san francisco mayor london breed unveiled a new plan today to try to boost

five noise complaints during that daytime rave at civic center over the weekend. on saturday. i mean, people came from all over to see skrillex and fred again perform really popular djs. the commission said it worked with organizers to try to mitigate the impact and set up a dedicated hotline for complaints. they also monitored sound levels during the show. the commission said in a statement that it considered this event to be a quote, shining example of how music and culture can drive the city's economic recovery. well something new is on the menu at club fugazi in san francisco. >> i got a neighbor from the east, a neighbor from the west, a neighbor who's the worst and a neighbor who's the best, a neighbor who's now through november, the show is teaming up with local restaurants and chefs to offer a taste of san francisco as part of the theatrical experience at the renowned dear san francisco show earlier today at four, i spoke

rebuild its agriculture. we get the story tonight from ktvu crystal bailey. >> six winemakers from the southern region of ukraine are spending time in napa valley this week away from their war torn land, to learn how to rebuild. >> my winery is located very close to the front line, and, my colleagues wineries as well. >> among them is svetlana zubac, who says the wine industry in her country is overlooked right now. she says she wants to highlight the diversity of ukrainian wine, specializing in ukrainian varietals. >> we are brave people and we need to survive and we need to save our vineyards. and of course, we continue to work. of course we continue to make wine, not war. >> hosted by the grgich estate, where the croatian winemakers know a bit about what ukraine is going through. having dealt with a civil war with yugoslavia back in the 1990s, we are heartbroken and we know what it means. >> it's similar. i mean, obviously ukraine's and russians are brothers, same like us and serbs. >> the vintners are learning

months at some of its bay area stations. the transit agency says it has spent nearly $21 million in upgrades at the martinez, fremont, hayward and oakland coliseum stations. the improvements include resurfaced platforms with tactical warnings, tactile, tactile scuse me warning surfaces along the platform edge so that passengers with vision disabilities can safely navigate the station. there are also renovated restrooms, as well as a new pedestrian walkway and new signage. the city of pittsburgh
