the bases are shallow, summer breeze is beginning to kick in here. it will show itself more later today. cooler for many, unless you just don't get the breeze of the fog. but temperatures coming down 60, 70, 80 still some 90s all right, so we may never pass this way again, but i still need to know what the traffic is. now, hold on a minute. eastbound 24 has an issue. >> that's right. steve get closer. i got something for you. i'm waiting. eastbound 24, we did have a crash approaching the lafayette area. and hold on for a second, because sometimes when steve's makes a request, i have to. i'm going to go to that first because steve's the man. you know that eastbound 24, steve mentioned. i have it up on the maps now. getting up to the walnut creek area, there was a crash at pleasant hill road. the good news about that, steve and everyone else, is that the jam up has cleared up because they moved it to the shoulder. it's still a little bit slow on westbound 24 in the area, though, and we're going to check that out in a matter of fact,

westbound 24 is just a little slow. i wouldn't say it's terrible, but if you want to give yourself an extra 5 to 10 minutes, i think that would be, probably a good move. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza that is backed up for about a 10 to 15 minute delay. no major issues. once you make it onto the bridge at 701. let's get right back to the headlines, sal. >> thank you. on the heels of a visit from vice president kamala harris, former president donald trump is attending a fundraising event in san francisco today, hosted by billionaire venture capitalists ktvu. james torres is live in the city with all the activity ahead of the event. hi, james. >> hi, garcia. well, the former president will spend the rest of the week here in california. his first stop here in this neighborhood in the pacific heights district of san francisco. that's before he heads down to southern california. this is donald trump's first visit to california. and one of his first fundraisers since a jury convicted him of more than 30 felony fraud charges. today's event, hosted by billionaire venture capitalist david sax and

chamath palihapitiya that could rack up around $250 million for trump's presidential campaign. the two investors have held similar events and fundraisers for other candidates before. that includes former republican candidate vivek vivek ramaswamy and even independent candidate robert f kennedy. together, the two host a podcast called all in, which is posted on youtube. there, they talked about trump's fundraisers, saying they've sent an invitation to host and fundraise for president biden as well. david sax says he thinks today's event will reveal just how much support trump has in the bay area. >> frankly, there's a lot of preference falsification going on in silicon valley. i know there's a lot of people in silicon valley who we know because we know who's coming. >> yeah, you have the list of people who don't. i mean, look, nobody is excited about biden, okay? >> nobody is excited about biden right now. so the only question is, do they hold their nose and vote for him, or do they vote

for trump? or do they vote for bobby kennedy? but but there's a lot of people who i do think support trump. >> it was a rigged trial. we wanted a venue change, a small group of those pro-trump californians are planning a caravan from oakland to san francisco, showing their support for the republican presumptive nominee. >> at the same time, there was an anti-trump demonstration happening later this morning near the marina. that's where organizers say they are planning to launch a float mocking the former president and his recent convictions. reporting live this morning in san francisco, i'm james torres, ktvu, fox two news. >> james. thank you. pro-palestinian protesters gathered in san francisco and oakland, where vice president kamala harris attended fundraisers. i'm afraid on baby killer, more than 100 demonstrators opposing the biden administration's support for israel gathered in front of the venue in san francisco, chanting they took over valencia street about an hour before the vice president arrived. police issued

orders to clear the area at least one woman was detained for not moving out quickly enough. protesters say they were there to make sure their voices were heard by the vice president. >> at every point in the last eight months, the biden administration knows, and the people of the world know, that he had the power to stop this war. he had the power to stop this genocide. if only he would have stopped arming israel. >> vice president harris addressed the protesters at one of the events, saying the administration hears them and that they're listening and working toward a resolution in the middle east. >> president joe biden speaking in france this morning honoring world war two veterans on the 80th anniversary of d-day on behalf of the american people. >> and as commander in chief, it's the highest honor to be able to salute you here in normandy. once more. >> during his speech, the president denounced authoritarian ism and isolationism, linking the lessons learned during world war two to today. >> we know the dark forces that

these heroes fought against 80 years ago. they never fade. aggression and greed, the desire to dominate and control, to change borders by force. these are perennial. the struggle between a dictatorship and freedom is unending. >> later today, the president and first lady, jill biden, will attend a wreath laying at the normandy american cemetery. well, at 705, now an israeli airstrike hitting a school that had been turned into a shelter in central gaza. the israeli military says its fighter jets hit that school, which is run by the united nations agency for palestinian refugees. now, the israeli military says hamas uses the school as a cover for its operations. local officials in gaza say at least 33 people were killed, including 23 women and children. three free palestine. this is an update to a story we told you about yesterday morning . 13 protesters were arrested on

the stanford campus after occupying a building that houses the office of the president and provost. the stanford daily says one of its reporters was among those arrested. the group, liberate stanford, is calling on the university to divest in companies doing business with israel. the university says there was extensive damage to the building, adding, quote, actions such as what occurred this morning have no place at stanford. the demonstrators were taken to santa clara county jail . >> they are very disappointed with the administration that they do not think the administration is answering student calls. >> the students involved face suspension, the university also says any seniors arrested will not be able to graduate. yesterday morning, stanford also removed a pro gaza encampment that was set up back in april. >> happening today final public comments expected on a funding plan to bring two giant pandas from china to the san francisco zoo. the board of supervisors voted last month to postpone the mayor's request to raise $25 million to host the pandas once they're brought in from china.

critics say the timing and nature of the proposal is distracting from some of the city's more important priorities. animal rights activists also say they've sent letters urging officials to cancel plans to house pandas at the zoo over what they call sub-par conditions to the south bay. now, as people in san jose are being told to keep their pets inside because of a mountain lion, san jose police say the big cat was spotted just after 930 last night in the area of l.a. drive and war admiral avenue, not far from great oaks park, police say if you see a mountain lion, call 911. officers are working with animal control to locate the big cat and move it to a less populated area. >> 708 is your time right now. firefighters in napa responded to a fire that came close to a home. the crystal fire started northeast of saint helena on wednesday and burned about 60 acres, cal fire says. crews responded quickly with three air tankers and two helicopters and at the fire, 50% contained. within a few hours, cal fire says the fire should remind everyone to have an evacuation plan in place. >> a good take home right now is

to start with your evacuation plan. so am i signed up for the local emergency alerts through my county? do i have a go bag ready for my family? do we have our plan? what we're going to do? should we have to evacuate? >> two firefighters affected by the heat were taken to the hospital. three others were treated at the scene. there are no reports of any structural damage. >> amtrak says it has made some accessibility improvements at its bay area stations. the transit agency says it spent nearly $21 million in upgrades at the martinez, fremont, hayward and oakland coliseum stations. improvements include resurfaced platforms with warning surfaces along the platform edge so passengers will have trouble seeing can more safely navigate the stations. they're also renovated restrooms, a new pedestrian walkway, and some new signage. the city of pittsburgh is allocating nearly $2 million to fix city roads, with a focus on the california seasons. neighborhood crews will be paving and resurfacing along with other repairs. the project is set to start in spring of

next year. >> time 709 and we've been following the east bay commute, where clearly most of the slow traffic is. we've had a couple of things going on, but i'm going to start with the bay bridge just because people always want to know what that's looking like. actually, it doesn't look all that slow. and, you know, sometime in june we're going to start seeing some drop off during this commute. it happens every year as people start taking road trips. they start going on vacation. we hope it happens. maybe next week. it's already looking a little bit lighter on a thursday here. heading over to san francisco. this is a look at interstate 880, and you can see that traffic looks good. highway four is pretty slow all the way out to concord from pittsburg, and highway 37 is slow. heading out of vallejo until you get about halfway on the causeway on 37. it just it gets better by the time you reach sears point for sure. and there's also some slow traffic approaching the richmond bridge. it's 710. let's go back to the desk. >> the community of half moon

policies on its website. sf pride said there is no israeli float in the sf pride parade. sf pride values the contributions of jewish queer individuals in advocating for peace and acknowledge their enduring efforts. the group also says it's welcoming pro-palestinian groups to the sf pride parade. the san francisco jewish community relations council posted on social media we are disheartened by this poorly worded statement from san francisco pride. we call on sf pride to clarify that everyone, including lgbtq plus israelis, are welcome at pride. we spoke with state senator scott wiener, who represents san francisco and participates in pride. he says there will be a large jewish contingent at this year's parade, and that everyone is welcome. >> the pride statement was, not phrased, ideally. and i think that it sent an in an inaccurate

message, about israelis and, and i know that pride completely and utterly welcomes israelis in the parade. we have a large lgbtq israeli population in san francisco who are absolutely woven into the fabric of our community. >> we did reach out to organizers of sf pride. we have yet to hear back. san francisco's pride parade is on june 30th. >> small businesses were on display at a pride event highlighting lgbtq owned shops in sunnyvale. more than 20 vendors showed up for the oasis makers fair at the tetra hotel. these vendors sold items such as handmade candles, clothing, baked goods and more. the rice rockets drag troupe provided entertainment as people shopped, celebrating pride month while putting money into the community. >> happy pride month to everybody and also just to support the community and show support to small business owners . is very important to me. >> so hopefully by coming

together as a community, it will empower other people to feel more comfortable about who they are. >> the hotel hosts events like this every quarter trying to showcase members of the community. it is coming up now on 716. us regulators are set to move forward with antitrust investigations into companies that are dominating the ai industry. the justice department and federal trade commission reached a deal to split responsibility for investigating nvidia, microsoft and openai. now the justice department will investigate if the behavior of nvidia violated antitrust laws and the ftc will examine the conduct of openai and microsoft. >> nvidia is now the biggest company in silicon valley, and the second largest in the world. the artificial intelligence chip maker in santa clara is now worth $3 billion in. nvidia has surpassed apple just checked here. found that one share of nvidia is trading at more than $1,200. nvidia is moving closer to microsoft, which is currently the most valuable company in the

world at 3.1 trillion. >> all right, 716 now let's get back to sal, who's tracking the roads. we are theorizing today might be the day that people go to work because they don't have to go tomorrow. >> yeah. you know, we've certainly andre and gasia have noticed trends and tuesday, wednesday, thursday are the office days. mondays and fridays are the days where people work from home or perhaps say they're working from home. you know how that goes. all right. i won't get into that. let's go to highway four, as you come over to the willow pass, grade. it's all right. it's a little slow. southbound 680. right near pleasant hill road. there was a crash, a little slowing there from pleasant hill to walnut creek and 80 from el sobrante into the berkeley area is slow. this is all very typical. we don't see anything unusual about that. a quick look at the richmond san rafael bridge. it's a little slower than i'd like to see it, but it should get better in the next hour or so. this is the peak of the commute. highway 24 is also slow. this morning we had a couple of earlier

incidents that are gone. bay bridge is backed up to the maze, so definitely a crowded thursday out on the road, so if you are, you know, it is getting closer to the commute where it's going to get a little bit better. that's the 8:00 hour. right now. we're in the thick of it. 717 steve, back in with today's forecast. >> yeah, i'm working from home today. wink, wink. right. so thank you, sir, we do have our high moving off a little bit slowly. now, if you're well inland, it'll still be hot. but the trend is to start to cool it down. that system to the left will start to pump it out of the way. and that's going to open the door to a much stronger sea breeze. all right. some fog for muir beach. marin headlands looks like on the golden gate bridge. trying to get its act together in the city as well, at least out towards, you know, the western edge of the city, no doubt about it. down towards santa cruz and moving up the san mateo coast. that's called a southerly surge right there. so it's on its way. not only that, but 50s on the temps. now, if you're out towards vacaville and brentwood, it's going to take another day, before the cooling

makes it. but we are on except for livermore. everyone is running cooler by 1 to 8 degrees. concord minus eight, hayward minus seven, napa minus seven, santa rosa minus six. and a lot of minus four is minus five here. so it's going to be a cooler day today as that system swings. that's a pretty deep system this time of year. but it'll always say wash out as it moves towards us. but that'll bump the high out of here. and all signs point towards cooling beginning today and then really ramping. i think the sea breeze kicks up its heels pretty well this afternoon. and then for sure tonight into tomorrow a little cooler thursday. westerly breeze trying to work its way in. and it will eventually. but still if you're you know, if you don't get the fog of the sea breeze, you'll still be hot. but most locations, at least locally, will start to drop here today. cooler for all friday into saturday levels off sunday a little warmer monday. >> steve thank you. time is 719. one woman from pinole is at d-day. observances in normandy, you'll meet 98 year old jean gibson. one of the last surviving rosie the riveters. >> the state said a bear wandered into a south lake tahoe home, and the residents had no choice but to defend themselves. but investigators are now taking

used to be just kind of like, oh, you buy your house and, you know, you certainly have to budget for that. >> but it wasn't like, you know, this is going to be a significant additional cost. i want to go back to having one insurer for a fair price, you know, that provides the coverage. i need. >> state farm is the first major insurance company to walk back. a decision to drop coverage. for some californians, the policy changes go into effect july 3rd or when renewals come up. >> the city of pittsburgh says water will be shut off for homes and buildings in the area of valenzuela court and madonna. madonna place today. the service interruptions will take effect between 9 and 1 p.m. it's all part of a system repair project. water shutoffs are also scheduled for friday. california is moving forward with a plan to build the state's largest new reservoir in 50 years. this comes after a judge dismissed a lawsuit from an environmental group that was aiming to block the project. the $4.5 billion project, known as sites reservoir, would be located about 70 miles northwest of

sacramento and provide water to millions between the bay area and los angeles. the project is on track to break ground in 2026 and finish by 2032. >> the el dorado county da's office says it's looking into the deadly shooting of a 16 month old bear that created backlash on social media, the california fish and wildlife department says on memorial day, the bear was shot by a homeowner after it wandered into a south lake tahoe home. state investigators closed the case the next day, but witnesses have since come forward disputing the accounts of the shooter, saying it wasn't in self-defense. 724 here, the city of san jose's animal shelter is reminding pet owners to keep their animals out of the heat during these hot days, and the agency has some tips for us to get your pet up to date with their latest heartworm preventatives. >> and if you leave your pet at home, be sure it has access to a cool, shaded room, threw ice cubes in its water, and move your walks to the early morning or late evening hours. favorite

thing to remember is if it's too hot for you, it's likely too hot for your animals. >> i think it's important that people remember that, cats and dogs, they don't shed their heat the way that people do. >> pets do not sweat like humans do. instead, they regulate their body temperature through panting and through their paw pads. the city's animal shelter also urges people to never leave their animal alone in a parked car. on hot days. and if you see someone else doing this to their pet, the best thing to do is call animal services. >> usually, if the temperature outside is 90 degrees, it's going to be well over 100 and can get up to 140 degrees inside a car very quickly. >> leaving your pet in a parked car on a hot day is against the law. in our state. it could result in fines and jail time. >> well, the oakland ballers are just two weeks into their debut season, but tonight they will make some history on the mound. >> and at the same time, former

yesterday and the day before like c paulson and i did, you probably won't have to turn it on again today right? i hope well it depends on where you live if you're far enough inland. >> yes. but for a majority probably not. there's a pretty good breeze and fog is forming. there's some air in marin county, southwestern marin coast. it looks like it's pulling away from the golden gate bridge, but there's plenty coming up the coast here. look at that. well, there's some south san francisco as well, but right there down towards monterey moss landing, santa cruz, and then working its way up the coast, san mateo coast. so it's a sign of things to come here, summer breeze is kicking in, not roaring yet, but i expect it to pick up later today . fog moving up the coast. breeze has turned a little more westerly. we are running about 1 to 8 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time, so 60, 70, 80 inland. still some 90s, but not those one hundreds. unless you're outside my forecast zone. all right. sal is here. where are we beginning? a bridge of freeway. what? >> yeah, let's start on the bridge here. steve, i want to show everyone the bay bridge, because that's the really the king of the commute. so to speak. and that is backed up all

the way out to the maze. metering lights are on. and, you know, some of these other commutes are still pretty good. taking it easy here on 880, north and south, right near the coliseum, you can see that traffic is moving well. and if you're looking at the south bay commute, we're getting now a little bit of a backup heading into the west valley. so when we come back we'll take a look at that. and some of the peninsula commutes that are getting more crowded. it's 730. let's get right back to the headlines. >> so thank you for that ceremony in france to honor dozens of american world war two veterans continues this morning. >> it was 80 years ago today. allied troops stormed the beaches of normandy, a turning point in the war now remembered as d-day. katie's allie rasmus is live in studio to share how world leaders, including the president, are sharing their gratitude for those who gave their lives. >> it was a day long series of events, speeches, ceremonies to honor the bravery and sacrifice of american world war two veterans. >> chevalier de la légion d'honneur.

>> emmanuel macron pinned the legion of honor medal, france's highest honor, on the veterans who survived d-day. president biden then shook hands and thanked each of them personally, members of the british royal family and even actor tom hanks attended the ceremony, happening this morning at the normandy american cemetery in france. to show their gratitude, many of the veterans who survived the d-day allied invasion of occupied france are now around 100 years old. dozens of them returned to the site where, 80 years ago today, they took part in the largest air, sea and land invasion in us history. it was june six, 1944, when more than 150,000 allied troops from the u.s, the uk, france, australia and canada landed on the occupied french coastline of normandy during world war two and is what is now referred to as d-day, and historians say it laid the groundwork for allied forces to eventually defeat germany. the war ended 11 months afterwards. >> here we proved that the ideals of our democracy are

stronger than any army or combination of armies in the entire world. we prove something else there as well the unbreakable unity of the allies. >> as president biden used his address to touch on current international politics, speaking about the defense of democracy in the context of current conflicts in europe between nato and russia and the ongoing war in ukraine, ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky also attended the ceremony in france this morning. towards the end of the event, there was a 21 gun salute and a flyover, and later veterans received a standing ovation from dignitaries and world leaders as they glided past world leaders in their wheelchairs about 150 americans who took part in the normandy landings were expected to attend today's ceremonies. gasia and andre, back to you. >> all right, ellie, thank you. millions of trailblazing women answered the call during world war two to help build up america's defenses. and that includes jean gibson, who lives in pinole. the 98 year old is one of the last surviving rosie

the riveters, and today she is in france to be honored alongside 70 other d-day veterans. after two weeks of welding school, gibson went to work building ships. >> it changed my life and i'm sure that my life has changed some others because i've had young women talk to me about their lives and how you know, they they think about the roses and they think about women doing things that were never permitted before. >> gibson was also a licensed pilot and became part of the ninety-nines that was a group started by amelia earhart when only 99 women were licensed to be pilots. now, gibson also went on to earn a phd and teach education psychology at uc berkeley. >> former president trump is here in the bay area raising money for his presidential campaign. in the event is co-hosted by venture capitalist david sachs. sachs posted on x last week that the former

president has a lot of supporters in silicon valley. many are just afraid to admit it. take us to the event. start at $300,000. sachs is hosting the event at his home in pacific heights. he has supported a wide range of presidential hopefuls over the years. bloomberg news reports. he donated $50,000 to the mitt romney campaign in 2012. 33,000 hillary clinton in 2016. most of his support has gone to republicans. he helped launch the ron desantis campaign announcement last year. he also co-hosted fundraisers for vivek ramaswamy and independent candidate robert f kennedy jr. meanwhile, former president trump is narrowing his list of potential running mates those on a reported short list include north dakota governor doug burgum and senators marco rubio, jd vance and tim scott. the trump campaign is reportedly requesting paperwork from contenders to begin a vetting process. so far, the candidates are keeping quiet about quiet about any possible role in the election. >> the only thing i'm talking to the president, president trump, about is how to make sure he

gets four more years. >> i have not we've never discussed it. and but, you know, the donald trump's going to make a good choice. he has time to make that choice. and he has a lot of good people to pick from. and i just think we need to win. >> political watchers say the choice of a vice presidential running mate will be one of the most critical pieces of news to come in the presidential race before the republican convention. now, just five weeks away, it's coming up on 736. >> now in half moon bay, the mayor and his family gathering with the community to mourn the loss of his son, 28 year old joaquin jimenez. alvarado was killed in a motorcycle crash less than two weeks ago. at his funeral, loved ones shared words about the young man who was well loved in the small community. >> our cherished son and beloved brother, grandson, nephew and friend. his spirit was so vibrant and his passing leaves a void that cannot be felt all the amount of people that have shown up to support the family and friends and everything, speaks about his personality and the legacy that he's leaving behind. >> and half moon bay.

>> after the funeral, a line of more than 60 motorcycles led a procession through downtown the san mateo county sheriff's office says it's still investigating the cause of this crash. those working to recall oakland mayor xiang tao say they've already turned in more than enough signatures to qualify the measure for the november ballot. yeah, the group oakland united to recall. shengtao says they've collected more than 40,000 signatures, which surpasses the required 25,000. the group says they turned in the signatures at city hall seven weeks before the deadline. critics say the mayor has failed to crack down on crime, lost out on millions of dollars by missing a deadline to apply for an organized retail theft grant, and is losing beloved sports teams lost the a's, she is selling off now our assets. >> she's selling off our interest in the oakland coliseum . that is an act of desperation. >> new oakland police statistics show nearly all types of reported crime, though, are down in oakland for the first five
