reflecting on those memories and remembering what he meant to them and this giants family as a whole. now i want to talk about his career a little bit. on the field, he slugged a 379 home runs. he batted 297 throughout his 17 seasons. now, most of those were spent at first base, but he was a utility guy. he could do almost anything. they asked him to do. take a look at what's up on your screen. now it's really to say the word impressive might just be an understatement when it comes to his career, right? an 11 time all star, he was inducted to the hall of fame in 1999. national league mvp, a world series champion and a rookie of the year. he will certainly be missed. among the giants and among these giants fans, right? we heard them and saw them really paying their respects outside of this statue tonight. you're. and there was even a small bouquet of flowers left at the foot of this statue tonight, guys. and the giants getting an

1940, when he enrolled as a student, and in 1964 he coached the u.s. judo team at the tokyo olympics. yosh remained the coach of san jose state's judo program for the rest of his life, and last year he was honored for 75 years of service to the university. >> the number one thing i'll remember, you know, from him is just his fight for life. you know, he fought, you know, the internment camps. you know, he fought to get judo in the olympics. you know, he he fought to have the first ever, you know, national championships, right here at san jose state. you know, he always fought for his what he thought was right. >> during his career, yosh coached the spartans to more than 40 collegiate titles and trained nearly two dozen olympians. >> a man who is suffering from serious injuries after being shot at the juneteenth celebration near lake merritt in oakland, is speaking publicly for the first time about his ordeal. he tells ktvu amber lee

that he is frustrated with what he says is a lack of action by city leaders. new tonight amber joining us live here in studio with his story. amber >> christina, the man tells me he's in oakland a few times a week and always regarded the lake merritt area as being safe. until now. he questions why police have not spoken with him about the incident. mason mar is struggling to recover from serious injuries he suffered last week, when he happened upon the juneteenth celebration near lake merritt in oakland that turned violent. he is still shaken up from being shot three times. i heard the first pop sound and at first i thought it was fireworks because, or illegal fireworks or something. >> but then i felt pain in my, right hand. >> the pain is from a bullet hitting his finger, which has now been amputated. that night he had been walking to a restaurant to have dinner with a friend when a sideshow got his attention. ma tells me while he was distracted, a young male

deliberately shot at him. he says he tried to get away by crawling underneath a car, then someone he didn't see who it was fired. two more shots hitting him in both thighs. >> i don't know if he's the one that shot two of my legs. >> 35 year old says there appeared to be a gun battle between two groups. he doesn't know if it was the same person who fired all three shots at him or if he was caught in the crossfire when he was shot in his legs. >> it wasn't just like one person shooting into a crowd. it sounded like they are going against each other because it's sometimes some shot was fired at the same time. >> when he arrived at the hospital, ma learned that the medical staff wanted to amputate his right leg because he was bleeding profusely and the staff was tending to numerous critical patients. >> i grabbed the trauma doctor and didn't let her go. and you know, try to and she really helped me and advocated for me, ma says. >> he is on medication for pain.

his trauma compounded by the lack of answers and action. he says he had previously felt safe in the lake merritt area. it's very disheartening and disappointed with, with with both the oakland pd and the city to not keep it safe. >> it's been a week and it's kind of like been forgotten until now. there's no police. come ask me anything. i don't even know if i'm considered a victim on their list. >> ma says the bullets are still lodged in his legs. he will need more surgeries, but he is determined to walk again. ma tells me he doesn't have medical insurance, and his family has started a fundraiser for him. >> christina, we wish him a speedy recovery. amberleigh live in studio tonight. amber. thank you. an incarcerated man has died after being found unresponsive in his cell on wednesday. the santa clara county sheriff's office says the 49 year old was at the elmwood correctional facility in

milpitas. he was taken to the hospital on wednesday and was declared dead this morning. investigators say there are no signs of foul play and had only been in the facility for three days. the county medical examiner's office is working to determine the official cause of death. >> a former music director at a bay area church has been arrested accused of sexually abusing a member. richmond police arrested 37 year old miguel angel villalobos. he was a volunteer staff member at saint cornelius catholic church. police say a woman contacted the department, saying villalobos abused her when she was a minor and that the abuse continued for several years. investigators say villalobos worked at several churches in the bay area, including saint clement catholic church in hayward and queen of all saints in concord. >> the u.s. navy is in a legal fight with an environmental group involving the cleanup of radioactive material at the hunters point naval shipyard in san francisco. the group green action for health and environmental justice sued the navy in preparation for its planned redevelopment at the

shipyard. right now, the navy is responsible for cleaning up the site. today's lawsuit also names the epa, which oversees that effort. green action claims the navy has missed key deadlines for reviewing its work plans. the same lawsuit says the epa has also failed to enforce its cleanup agreement with the state. >> we had a bunch of horses evacuated here last night. we also have four pigs, a 16 chickens and a variety of other animals. >> fires breaking out across the western u.s. coming up, the scramble to save as much life as possible from a growing wildfire in arizona and a sheriff's deputy expected to tow a man's rv from a road in the north bay. >> the last minute legal protection the rv owner received that is allowing him to keep the vehicle in place. >> plus, last night's debate left a lot to be desired for many democratic voters. the proposal one outside candidate is now proposing for president biden

evacuation site at cactus shadows high school, a place for them to come cool off, hang out, get information. >> as we get it, we pass it on. they've served about 20 to 30 people so far. >> we've got a lot, including people who are dropping off their pets in a partnership with the arizona humane society, we. as for sunny, she's prepared for another sleepless night. >> i would like to ask people that have horses to please be responsible, proactive, be ready, before any disaster hits. >> the red cross is also encouraging anyone if they need a place to stay, to come over here to cactus shadows high school where they can get air conditioning, water and food to eat. reporting here at cactus shadows. lauren clark, fox ten news. >> in southern california, a major development for la street vendors, they will no longer have to pay hundreds of dollars to obtain a permit. today, the city council passed an ordinance that significantly reduces the cost. the measure drops the cost of a permit from $541 to $27.51.

>> police in prescott, arizona, say they caught a pint sized driver on the road driving recklessly without a license. here's a photo of what an officer pulled the toddler over. police say there was an open container of juice in her cup holder, and that she was subject to a nap time violation. she was escorted home, where parents say she is now serving hard time in the time out corner. her parents also say she immediately requested to call grandma. no word on when that tiny driver will be released from time out, and you can hear about the west coast top stories every weekday right here on ktvu. west coast wrap with alex savage airs at 7:00 monday through friday, or find around the clock coverage at west coast rap.com. >> well, new at 11 today, marin county court granted a temporary restraining order against a sheriff's deputy. the order was filed by a man living in an rv, and it was obtained just hours before the man's rv was set to be towed. >> the man, whose identity will not be released, lives in his rv on binford road in novato, according to court documents. the rv resident claimed a deputy

wrongfully issued a parking violation and tow order on june 22nd. this was despite county programs that allow rv residents to live on this particular road, even with expired plates. today's restraining order prevented the planned rv tow and lets the residents stay in the rv until a scheduled hearing on july 18th. the first presidential debate last night, raising a lot of questions about both candidates for democrats. >> if president biden could have exhibited the exuberance he showed today at a rally in north carolina, their political landscape might look much different. some democrats and most republicans are also criticizing the president for his shaky, rambling and sometimes confused answers. >> he was able to answer the questions. he does stumble a little bit. he does have that seven mile where's my puppy dog look? but he answered the questions, would i vote for him? no. >> there's so many moving factors that i, as a frickin plebian can't make those decisions. i would love somebody else. but also, i'm not in

charge enough. stupid people. >> there is plenty of criticism about donald trump's performance as well. he made several false statements and avoided answering some questions. the two candidates are scheduled to meet again for a second debate on september 10th. independent candidate robert f kennedy jr is responding to the debate by offering to withdraw from the race if a new democrat takes biden's place. >> rfk jr proposed the same deal to president biden, who never responded in the deal. rfk jr says he will drop out if an independent poll in the fall shows a new candidate has a better chance of beating trump. this nomination could be snagged by governor gavin newsom, senator raphael warnock, governor gretchen whitmer or governor wes moore, an executive producer at tmz who spoke with rfk junior today, explained what appears to be his motive. >> the mission one for him is that donald trump does not return to the white house, and he's willing to do whatever is necessary to do that now. >> despite the offer, rfk jr

state's most popular parks. in recent years, crowds have increasingly grown in size at big sur. the forest service says the influx of tourists has resulted in traffic jams and camping in areas that were previously undisturbed. the service says it has spent three years coming up with a visitor use management strategy that could help alleviate overcrowding. some of the solutions include a reservation system for cars, camping, a parking permit for certain areas and a shuttle system. >> all right, turning now to our weather. let's go back to meteorologist roberta gonzalez for a final look at our forecast. i want to go ahead and focus in on how the forecast will be in many areas for the 4th of july, because you were just talking about the big sur area, it's going to be rather cool there. >> so that's a good getaway because we're going to be talking about temperatures in the triple digits beginning on monday all the way through friday away from the bay. but the entire bay area will be under that excessive heat watch.

it will be 109 degrees in fresno, 82 in santa barbara. how about mid 80s in los angeles? 117 in palm springs. and you say, hey, it's always hot in the desert. no, their average high is right around 106 degrees and gorgeous in san diego we have a layer of low clouds, patchy fog. now beginning to roll in to the bay. in fact, the cloud deck is roughly between 800 and about 1200 feet. still seeing the tip top of the salesforce tower, though that stands just slightly over 1000ft now. tonight, with the layer of low clouds along the coast, the temperatures dip into the 50s 62. however, in antioch, tomorrow's daytime high temperatures with the abundance of sunshine going up a degree or two. mid 60s with the sunshine in pacifica gorgeous in the city 73 degrees. and how about 90s away from the bay into our inland area? so the trough to the north of us is going to move out of here as it does so high pressure is going to build in

old bastian bazzi. michele and his family. the family says bazzi was hit walking home from a tutoring session on monday. the driver remained at the scene. the family tells me, and they say they are waiting for law enforcement to investigate before they form their final opinions. when barzee's grandmother learned he was heading to a tier one trauma center in san jose after the crash, she panicked, got hysterical, and i was like, hurry up and get there. >> hurry up and get there. it's bad, it's ashley, it's bad. it has to be bad. >> bazzi suffered several life threatening injuries, collapsed lungs, a fractured skull and several broken bones and severe internal injuries. doctors weren't sure he would make it through the first night, and at one point, his recovery seemed all but impossible. >> just like, really sad seeing this, like, just this little, like, lifeless body on this big hospital bed and you had so many two it just it it was haunting. i had to leave the room very immediately crying because it

just, it i just didn't expect to see him to look like that. >> the family tells me barzee's indomitable spirit has been leading them all through this time, but it's his love of soccer, sports and video games that's pushing him forward. that and the scores of visitors stopping by. >> just looking forward to him playing again like, you know, playing with his cousins the weekend before, he had a cousin's weekend at my dad. so it has his grandfather's house. so you know i just kind of holding like okay, we'll have many more of those weekends with his little cousins. >> one thing is for certain, barzee's community will be with him every step of the way. >> what a way to be journeying with that child and the family than being here in prayer. >> the family tells me they still have lingering questions about how bazzi ended up walking outside, alone in the first place, but they say that they're waiting for that police investigation to finish up before they form their final opinions. now, we did reach out to the san jose police department today. they did not have anyone available to give us a statement. so we'll bring you updates on that in the coming
